We noted yesterday that Miss Cate was pushing a look with more edge to it lately, but that the results have been spotty. Self-quoting, the mark of true quality blogging:
“Miss Cate, we want to support your new style direction, but we’re starting to suspect it’s less about evolving and more about not quite knowing what you want to do next. You clearly want some edge and androgyny in your look, but you haven’t quite landed on how to do it without looking goofy.”
Cate in response: “Hold my beer.”
Alright, now. Simmer down, Cate. You’ve had your fun, but as the self-appointed guardians of all things red carpet, we are bound by law to inform you that it’s time to move along and find a new direction for yourself. This one? Not working at all, dear.
We keep trying to convince ourselves that the real problem here is that the bottom half is too generic to be paired with the top half, but that’s just silly. The top half is simply impossible to work. How do we know this? Because one of the few celeb-gals who could make practically anything work is not making this thing work. There’s simply no good way to marry those sleeves to that bodice and those shoulders. The disconnect is so vast that it’s inherently unworkable.
Also, there’s a mullet.
