Translating the Trends for Fall 2017: VELVET BAGS

Posted on September 01, 2017

Darlings, there’s a three-day weekend coming up for most of us and we can think of no better way to celebrate America’s labor than by spending a little cash rewarding yourself, America’s laborers. Also, because retail therapy in 2017 has gone from an occasional lift-me-up to a somewhat necessary get-me-out-of-bed. We’re just saying. Self-care’s where it’s at and we can’t think of anything more soft, soothing, and treat-yoself  correct, than indulging in a little bit of velvet in your life. We just had a discussion this week wondering if the upcoming NY fashion week would be chilly enough for us to break out our velvet blazers because we’re feeling the call.

Velvet’s big for this fall, but that’s not particularly surprising. It’s pretty much a fall/winter perennial and in fact, 2017 was the year it broke out as a spring/summer trend as well. As a trend, it has yet to crest, driven by the fashion world’s ongoing love for it. The runways of every season this year have come with heavy velvet touches.

And a bag is a great way to indulge the trend without breaking the bank or forcing yourself into a garment you’re not feeling. As we head into the fall months and the winter holidays loom on the horizon, there will be plenty of opportunities to get use out of a velvet bag, but after Lorenzo went to town once again as your personal shopper on this matter, he found that he was falling a little in love with some of the more casual options, like the backpacks and totes.

Let’s take a look at what he came up with, shall we? We shall.

BAM. There you go, dolls. Enough velvet for you to continue your Prince Rogers Nelson memorial style tribute for the year to come. Before you get to clicking, be advised that we are all over the price point map on this one. There are some absolutely stunning high-end designer bags at aspirational prices, but there are also a TON of affordable options on tap as well. Girl, he even went to JC Penney and TJ Maxx for you.

Lorenzo’s faves? As always, he replies in confusion, “All of them. Why would I pick them?” When pressed, however, he names every Gucci, The Row and DSquared2 option, but don’t worry, stylish gals on a budget, he also loves the TopShop, ASOS and Mossimo options, as well as all the backpacks. There’s a whole range of ways to interpret this textile and Lo thinks he gave you the full velvet gamut to choose from.

So how about it, kittens? What’s good? Feeling the need for that velvet touch in your life?
