Style File: Jessica Chastain Runs the Style Gamut at the Toronto International Film Festival

Posted on September 12, 2017

Miss Jessica opted to spread her style wings a little this week, with some notable and eye-catching looks at TIFF that all manage to be fairly distinct from each other. If nothing else, she gets credit for not half-assing it or falling into a rut. It takes real work to plan out distinct promotional looks that are right for you. It’s why so many stars opt for the same looks over and over again. It’s too hard or scary to be adventurous on the red carpet.

Not that anything here is avant garde. In fact, if anything, they all share the quality of being fairly basic and easy to wear.

A lot of stars and stylists would walk quickly past this option, since there’s a real possibility the pattern will overwhelm any pictures taken of her. And to be honest, it comes pretty close here, although the black backdrop may have much to do with that. We’d like it more without the trim and bow, and with non-sheer sleeves.

Hm.

It’s just standard socialite-wear, which makes it an unusual choice for a film festival. From a strictly style perspective, we don’t love the matching shoes or the tight hair. Plus the dress is kinda giving her uniboob. The dress has some possibilities, but it needs impeccable fit and less cliched styling choices to work.

This is pretty and hot, if a little basic. She can wear reds to beat the band, but we feel like this lipsticky/Valentine’s shade isn’t the best choice for her. And maybe this is narrow thinking, but a dress with that much volume and embellishment looks odd to us hanging off a couple spaghetti straps.
