Style File: Issa Rae Steps Into the Spotlight

Posted on September 11, 2017

There are so many reasons to love Miss Issa’s continued success, whether it’s because Insecure is a fantastic show or because she herself is so likeable, it’s fun to watch the rise of stars who clearly deserve their rise. But for us, we’re just happy to see someone new making more and more of a dominance statement on the red carpet. They tell you to dress for the job you want and that has never been any less true for celebrities on the red carpet. Girlfriend’s carving out her spot in the A-listers circle with her style choices of late, which get more and more bold and confident.

Love the hair and hoops. The jumpsuit’s cute, if a little tricky around the midsection. There’s a trend for floaty, dark floral jumpsuits and this one may be one of the more sophisticated we’ve seen. The clutch seems a little off, though.

LOVE. It’s like a Grammys gown from 1978, which is, now that we think of it, something of a perfect style brief for her. Once again, it’s the head-styling that really sells the look.
