Girl, That’s Not Your Dress: Aubrey Plaza at the “Ingrid Goes West” New York Premiere

Posted on August 09, 2017

Hmmm.

Initial assessment: Admirable, if misguided attempt. Requires further study.

It’s a pretty dress. The midnight blue looks great on her. We’re not loving the floral or the patchy blocking, though. Especially the mismatched boobs, which strike us as a fairly efficient way to completely screw up a slip dress. And to probably no one’s surprise at all, except for the vast majority of the world’s population, we don’t like the shoes.

But more importantly, this strikes us as try at movie-star red carpet chic in the Kidman mode. In fact, this dress would look really great on Nicole. But Aubrey does much better in looks with a bit more dazzle and personality to them. That Marc Jacobs number she twinned with Elizabeth Olsen is probably the best red carpet look we’ve ever seen her wear.

A decent try – and we wouldn’t automatically rule out future attempts at sophistication and elegance – but girl, that’s just not your dress. Nicole is waiting patiently by her mailbox in Australia. Ship it to her. Let’s get you in something with a Miu Miu label sewn inside, yes?
