Style File: Alia Shawkat, Low-Key or Loud

Posted on May 18, 2017

With a second season of Search Party coming up and the release of a new film (not to mention the news about Arrested Development season 5), Miss Alia’s got every reason to doll herself up a little and get herself in front of some cameras.

Let’s tell her how she did.

Alia Shawkat attends the Turner Upfront 2017 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

This is pretty damn cute. We’re not feeling the footwear (which is something we write about 50 times a week, we admit), but she’s exactly the type of lady who can work a dress like this and have it come off low-key sweet instead of twee AF. The curls and clean face are the perfect counterpoint to it. It’s not our favorite style in the world, but considering how wrong a dress like this can go on a grown woman, the restraint in styling is smart and admirable.

Not that restraint is always on the menu, apparently:

Alrighty then.

Kelly Rowland wore this same suit and we’ll say here what we said there: The jacket’s cute and has a ton of possibilities. The pants are unworkable. The bag and shoes do not go AT ALL. If you’re going to wear such a loud, colorful ensemble, the last thing you need is to introduce new – and bold – colors to it.
