Darlings, we have a huge surprise for you this week! Are you ready? Here it is: We rambled all over the place for this one, touching on too many topics to list in one blog post! SHOCKER!
Yes, it’s another pod pourri of topics, first up: The SHOCKING ELIMINATION on this week’s “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” of course.
Visual aids for Lorenzo’s rants:
After, we get all THAT nonsense out of the way, we zero in on the Cannes Film Festival; not just the red carpetry, but a sort of overall explainer about why there are always models there or why we shouldn’t confuse these particular red carpets with, say the Met Gala or the Oscars. Bottom line: they’re a lot crazier on the Riviera. Also, we touch on this year’s Cannes controversy, having to do with the critical snubbing of streaming films. Director Pedro Almodovar made some inflammatory comments regarding Netflix’s entries, which spurred us on to go in all directions. Not only do we point out why Almodovar is wrong, but Lorenzo takes the moment to go off on his decades long love affair with his work. And THEN, for some reason that must have made sense to us at the time, Lorenzo wound up going off on his love for German choreographer Pina Bausch.
THEN, we do some slight diving in on the new Netflix true crime documentary The Keepers:
It’s devastating, of course, but it’s worth watching for reasons that have nothing to do with the crimes at the center of it. It’s a story about the stories of women – how they can sometimes be universal in nature, how the culture works to silence them, and how tenacious women can be when someone attempts to silence them. It’s powerful – but emotionally draining.
Minor check-ins on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Fargo before we FINALLY shut up.
All the laughter, all the tears and all the opinions, kittens.
