Mother and child and mother and child reunion:
This film has been in limbo for what seems like ages, but now that the MPAA bumped its R rating down to PG13, it’s finally seeing the light of day. Anyway, we’re glad to see the ladies grinning and having fun on the red carpet for this one, because it’s been a bit of a road getting here.
Y’know, it’s easy to buy Elle and Naomi as daughter and mother, but neither of them look like they could’ve sprung from Sarandon’s tree.
Anyway, let’s assess:
Love the idea of her in a ’30s-style dress like this. Not feeling the big red buttons at all, which look more and more dumb the longer we stare. Granted, if you took them off, this dress would feel literal to the point of costumey, but we can’t say that keeping them represents much of an improvement. Go for the literal look, we say. Rip off those buttons and get yourself in some dark green ankle straps with a rounded toe. Those shoes she’s wearing are cute, but they’re wrong for the look.
This all appears to be in very Sarandon order. We got her to stop wearing clown shoes, so everything after that is a win, as far as we’re concerned.
Sweetie, no. You are not the gal to be modeling Miuccia Prada’s particular brand of awkwardness. We might’ve accepted the dress, but those shoes just killed the look.
