Okay, for real, you guys. This is starting to get really concerning. We don’t want to alarm anyone, but after Nicole’s latest red carpetry, and now, with Julianne stepping out in this:
It’s become increasingly clear that Hollywood has turned into a cult AND/OR that our ladystars are being replaced by demure, ridiculously feminine drag-Stepford versions in order to protect the world from seeing any more of their panties.
We’re just saying.
We’re only kind of joking. This one has a tiny bit more of a grownup feel to it compared to Kidman’s party-colored Ingalls drag, but only barely – and probably only because it’s not pink. We had a feeling we were about to head into the era of the New Demure after years of sheer dresses and macrame dresses and lace dresses out the wazoo. At some point, both the designers and the fashionistas and the ladystars would all get on the same page and say “We’re done with the see-through shit.” It was inevitable. And while we tossed the joke off in Nicole’s post, it does perhaps bear some examination as to whether this sudden covering up might not be socially and politically motivated. Depending on your own views, there are two probably equally on-point ways of interpreting this trend. It’s either s a protective cocooning in response to political and social changes or it’s a realignment toward a more conservative aesthetic in response to political and social changes.
Either way? It’s making for some hideousness. Everyone knock it off and put on some sequins pronto.
