Someday, we’re going to poll all our fellow red carpet commenters and ask them which of the annual repeating red carpets (i.e., awards shows and the Met Gala, mostly) is the most difficult to cover. We suspect the Kid’s Choice Awards would rank pretty high. Here’s Heidi, providing a visual aid for our point:
Skipping past the relative merits (few) and drawbacks (numerous) of the design, doesn’t this seem like … a bit much for the KCAs? The VMAs or the Grammys, sure. Those are the times to bust out (pun intended) your sexy S&M robot Versace gown on the world.
On the other hand, it’s difficult to really stick to a strictly defined dress code for this event because the attendees are all the hell over the map. Sometimes we think the overdressed are simply novice attendees but we know Miss Heidi’s been here at least a half-dozen times before; sometimes with her own kids in tow. We suppose she just felt like dressing the hell up for the night. Maybe she had an awards season contractual obligation of handshake-promise to fulfill. There’s some Versace rep who thought she was going to wear this to the Vanity Fair Oscar party who’s pissed right now, we bet.
All that aside, it’s a perfectly Heidi dress, even if it does look a bit like some sort of post-surgical device.
