Viola Davis attends a special screening of “Fences” held at the Rose Theater – Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.
Maybe we’re grading on a curve here – because this isn’t the most chic or stylish design we’ve ever seen – but we’ve been liking Miss Viola’s red carpet choices as of late. They’re not runway or Vogue-cover chic, but they speak of a woman who knows who she is and refuses to fuss with what works. We say that because her early red carpet years were dicey at best, but in the last six months or so, she’s been consistently good in a low-key, gets-the-job-done kind of way. All the sparkle and shimmer she used to default to is stripped away. Do we think this is perfect? Not by a long shot. The jewelry is pretty but it belongs with a different type of look. This needed some subtle diamonds to bump it up. And the wig is … very not great.
But the dress really suits her and clearly allows a level of confidence and comfort she hasn’t always shown when she went for more fussy or high fashion looks. The most important part of good style is knowing yourself. This is by no means perfect, but it’s in the right direction and she responds really well to it. Keep going, Viola.
