Elle Fanning attends the premiere of “The Neon Demon” at Metrograph in New York City.

Even when Miss Elle mostly gets it right (which is something of a rarity), we usually have at least a handful of quibbles.  This time?

NAILED IT.

It still falls within that hyper-romantic, fairy-princess style mode that she works in, but this strikes us as a more sophisticated take than her usual. Maybe because there’s no glitter or sparkle and only a handful of flowers. This is not our favorite color in the world, but it’s certainly the color for her. Put this shade in heavy wardrobe rotation, Miss Elle. You own it. We like the play of the chartreuse sash against it. Provides an unexpected bit of contrast.

Sometimes we rail against too-clean faces with somewhat elaborate gowns, but it works really well this time; partially because she can rock a clean face and partially because the pale floatiness of the dress works well with her natural coloring. Love the hair, but we wish she’d sported some ear jewelry. Even if it’s just a couple diamond studs. It always looks a little odd to us; the combination of elaborate gown and up do with bare ears.
