I want that suit. God, I hope the pockets are functional.

    • madscntst

I don’t think they (the pockets) are. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be hauling around a bag that could be used to transport a large watermelon.

  • Sarah

She is giving Diane Keaton a run for her money. Love the shoes. Also: She ALREADY my friend, and is on her way to my place for mimosas. Believe that.

    • imspinningaround

It’s so Baby Boom it’s hurting me.

    • Sarah Walsh

That was my first thought as well – Annie Hall drag!

  • E. D.

Eh, not a huge fan of the pants with those shoes, maybe black pants. Looks like an optical illusion. Love everything else though.

  • Audrey Lee

Flawwwwless. And then we get to those shoes which are perfect. Good lord, she’s awesome. She inspires awe.

  • siriuslover

Siriuslover wants to BE Cate today. That sassy do, those intellectual lenses, that cool suit. Yes, I shall BE Cate today.

    • 3boysful

      I’ll be tomorrow.

    • Jo

I’m Cate every Sunday. From around noon till midnight…

  • Little_Olive

There is Pope Tilda, Queen Helen and then Empress Cate. The level of natural-born fabulosity demands a title.
    Love that haircut on her.

(I think she had something done to her lips tho)

    • Megan Kennedy

Why, Cate? Why mess with perfection?

      • Erica

I think they all do, eventually. I can’t blame them, as long as it’s tasteful and well done. After all, their faces are plastered up on huge screens for a living.

        • Megan Kennedy

Oh, totally. I don’t blame them, but I do blame the system that makes them feel like it’s necessary.

    • Loladog10

      You may be right!! Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!

    • VDD

I don`t think so. Look the other pics her lips looks very normal…but you´re right about Empress Cate!

  • Holy crap… how chic is this? (As I sit here in my less-than-chic reality.)

    • Carleenml

I’m putting on some Burt’s Bees lip balm. Cause that’ll help.

      • Tinted Burt’s Bees. 🙂

      • Janet B

        Cherry Chapstick. I’m old school.

  • imspinningaround

Your good friend Cate needs to rethink that lipstick.

  • “Watch me, Tess. Learn from me.”

    • Anna

      BK Mind Meld!

    • Shannyn Marie

Hahahah now please go out of town on your rich lady ski trip so I can takeover your house AND your man with this bod made for sin that I’m rocking.

    • oneWEIRDword

  • Loreto Bazo Márquez

I’m getting serious 90s office outfit vibes! in a good way. Tho, those pants sure look big on her…the glasses finish the look. but dont worry Cate, you always make for great commentary!

    • majorbedhead

      Maybe they’re her eatin’ pants.

  • Anna

Cast her as Katharine Parker in a remake of Working Girl!

    J’ADORE Executive Realness Cate.

    • LazySusanElizabeth

There’s gotta be some casting directors among the BK’s. Come on, people. Cate Blanchett and Dakota Johnson too on the nose?

    • Little_Olive

I bet there’s legal papers in that tote that actually mean stuff.

(Which brought me to a comparison with Beyonce’s trips to the office that we are treated to here sometimes.)

    • Grazi diMenti

I saw Most Seriously Fabulous Senior Partner. Love the glasses and the shoes.

  • Beardslee

    • sgac37

      Yes! And the glasses!

  • rumsey

Blondes look great in grey: e.g. your friend Cate.

  • Karen B

Your good friend Cate looks like Kim Basinger en route to divorce court

    • mhlmh

      in 1989.

      • Eliza Jardine

Yes! The shoes, the drape of the suit, the 20″ rise of the pants. I hate everything about this from the neck down.

  • Meri

Please tell your good friend Cate that I want her shoes. And bag.

  • majorbedhead

Oh, those shoes are awesome. Your friend Cate is indeed effortlessly chic. I would like my own model, pleaseandthankyou.

  • In_Stitches

She always looks stunning in Armani. This number is no exception.

    • Daisy Walker

She and Jodie Foster were born to wear Armani, suits especially. A thousand years ago, I went to an Armani exhibit at the Guggenheim–that’s as close as I’ll ever get to wearing one, but it was enough.

  • NWGarmento

This is gorgeous. But my first thought was if I went “dining in Armani” I would be wearing a giant-a$$ bib. My luck I’d get salad dressing all over it.

What a fabulously chic, comfortable, effortless look! Oh, Cate…… J’adore!

  • NBG

I would rock those shoes so hard.

  • Diane

wish they could bottle that … you spritz yourself and voilà .. you are fabulous.

  • Is she good? Or is she just tall?

  • runjuliet

She’s heading to a staged reading of Working Girl, where she — of course — is playing the Sigourney Weaver character.*

*if only wishing made it so…

    • Snailstsichr

Could be – she does have notes in her bag!

  • Gatto Nero

Reaching for her pepper spray in that last shot.
    Just kidding.
    Your friend is fabulous.

  • EEKstl

LOVE the shoes and of course always luv huh but can’t with the 90’s pants.

    • Sanglots longs

I thought I was the cheese standing alone on that. I don’t like them much either, though I am talking myself into believing this is a vintage Armani, and I’m sure the fabric is like buttah, and you could certainly eat in those pants, so….I will accept. them. But only because it’s Cate.

    • Wink

The whole suit looks 90s to me. Nah. But the shoes, bag and glasses can stay.

  • julnyes

She is going to be in Thor:Ragnorak? What character .. off to IMDb … SHE IS PLAYING HELA …. AHHHHHH … and Ruffalo will be in it as The Hulk .. AHHH .. Marvel has my soul.

    • kimmeister

I don’t know what Ragnorak means, but man, what an unappealing title!

      • julnyes

It is kinda like the “End of Times” in Norse mythology (except it happens cyclically)

Also — AHHHH Karl Urban is in this movie as well AHHHH

        Happy screams.

  • B_C_J

I do not like the suit at all. It feels very dated to me.

  • Eric Stott

Are the lapels supposed to be like that?

  • Lilah

Not only do I want the suit, but I want the glasses too. Wonder who makes them?

  • Lily

Save for the shoes, I rather think someone’s good friend Cate is bordering on late 80s power suiting, sans shoulder pads, of course. Those pleated/borderingtooclosetoHammer pants are giving me the shivers.

  • BlairBear

The crotch on those pants is insane. But she looks stunning like always.

  • Vanessa Reyes-Weber

So Michelle Pfeiffer in Up Close and Personal…Love it!

  • tryinnottobetoojudgy

I love that chic, effortless, superhuman Cate appears to be pawing through her purse (in that last photo), looking for her keys, or phone, or valet ticket, or whatever, just like I do 20 times a day. The difference, of course, is that Cate’s purse probably cost roughly as much as my car. Still, it makes her seem more like a real human being and a little less like the goddess that she is.

  • Beto

It vaguely reminds me of Diane Keaton in a fantafabulous sense of way. Those frames are to die for and suits her more than well.

  • DyanSwan

She looks as good in her private life as she does in her professional one.

  • ohayayay

    Female Clark Kent!

  • Lilithcat

If you won’t introduce us, will you at least ask her where she got those fabulous shoes, and pass on the information?

  • Our good friend Cate is wearing some kickass shoes. I covet them.

  • Nerka2

    I WANT those shoes…….

  • I didn’t know that I wanted a tapered trouser until now. Witness the power of the Blanchett.

  • Bland Gland

Cate is no one’s friend, but she IS everyone’s elven queen.

  • Kaonashi

this is simply a great look that is pure Cate. And those shoes are wonderful!

  • Tenley

This looks so baggy and really more like she’s making fun of ordinary business wear.

  • jlk1980

It reminds me of Dana Scully in season 1 of the X Files. I would prefer black pants or different shoes.

  • Gatita

80s realness in the best possible way.

    • VCR1

How is she making this look so good? Look at those shoulder pads!!

    • numenah

The shoulders, the wide-legged, slightly tapered pant–exactly. I wonder how long it’s been in her closet. The suit is in great condition, though.

  • RCCA

Great outfit, wrong glasses. Just too large for beautiful Cate. Awkward.

  • steph

I will trade my left kidney for her shoes.

  • MilaXX

Lol, giving Chloe & her alters a run for the money! Love the shoes and the glasses

  • CassandraMortmain

The fit on those pants is awful. The whole look is dated and aging. The shoes are cool but do look like they belong on a much older woman. So, no.

  • Lurker

Serving 21st century Katherine Hepburn realness!

  • oneWEIRDword

Good GRIEF, she is fabulous! Come on!

  • Robert Sanchez

The shoes are boss. The suit, eh.

  • cicada

Looks like she raided Dana Scully’s closet for that suit. Her hair, makeup, and glasses look nice though.

  • Reality Fan

She would still be cool had she never worked with Woody Allen.

I love this look head-to-toe, though.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Those shoes need to be on my feet. And I only wish that I could look that good in a suit

  • Beth Kensinger

I’m feeling some Kate Hepburn vibes with this outfit. Love it.

  • britjams

Those shoes, though! Job well done.

  • boingboing

I’m totally on board with the baggy suits pants trend. But baggy AND tapered? Mmmmm. No.

  • KT

All of this just made me smile. Delightful AF

  • AnneElliot

Those shoes are the Precious, and we wants them!!!

  • onefifteen

Hate the suit & shoes. Keep the glasses & haircut.

  • ladybug

    i want those shoes!

  • OffToSeeHim

Is your good friend Kate a librarian? In 1985? Does she perhaps own a baby food company?

  • Cynica

I want to Be Her so damn hard.

  • fromanotherplanet

Slay a bit Queen. SLAY A BIT.

  • MyFavoriteColorIsGlitter

    Serving Annie Hall realness.

  • Bellatrix Lestrange

I was okay till I saw the footwear and then I went into the gasping territory. Those are some shoes and miss lady is working it. Oh and she’s my friend too…We share the same taste in glasses :p

  • ksb43

I miss the pink hair. Otherwise, she looks fabulous!

  • Nancy Arseneault-Heald

No one has a problem with the cut of those pants? I’ll buy off on the rest, especially those shoes, but I can’t with those pants.

  • NG

Please, designers, no to these tapered leg pants. They work for so few women.

  • ms_kat

Love those shows. Think the pants look weird.

  • PeaceBang

Your good friend Cate has some funky fitting issues in her trousers, but I’d still try not to stare at her all night.

  • love the shoes, pretty but sturdy

  • quiltrx

I love the whole thing, but especially the shoes!

  • Catherine

Those shoes need to be mine.
