There’s an awful lot going on on the dress for it to be so boring.

    • catlover2x

      Masterful shade.

    • evave2

I don’t like the way it hangs on the bottom. Just off in some fashion (which explains why I am here commenting on a blog and not writing a blog).

I do like the bejewelry though.

  • HomeOfficeGirl

Hmm… pretty. But is that a ruffle along the back seam?? Why??

  • ms_kat

The seam down the back is disturbing. Like a vestigial tail?

    • PNW Jenn

      Vestigial train

    • Kimberlini

I wonder if the bodice is separate from the skirt.

    • JLou

It looks like the backside of a mannequin in a store window, with the clothespins tightening the fit just so.

  • The line between elegant and Bedazzled is a thin one.

  • In_Stitches

When your dress looks like cotton candy, a necklace that looks like rock candy might be a bit much unless you’re a pixar character.

    • Wink

Ditch the necklace and add a sleek silver bangle (or two).

      • In_Stitches

        My thoughts to a T.

      • 3boysful

        And less-beachy hair.

  • Lily

FIshing lures seem appropriately thematic for a seaside festival. do they not?

    • Kent Roby

      She does look rather a-lure-ing.

      • littlemac8

        Groan….

      • cowper

        Clearly, fishing for compliments…

  • Sarah

I like the necklace, but the dress is a bit “screen with bugs stuck on it” for my tastes.

  • Karen B

Thats a lot of doodads and whatsits.

    • 3boysful

      She’s got plenty.

      • NBG

        Thingamabobs?

        • Tarquin

          TWENTY!

    • BKagainwiththesweatpants

      GEEGAWS

  • Anna

The necklace is fighting with the dress. Specifically, the necklace is yelling at the dress: “BEGONE FROM ME, you Easter Sunday-themed prom dress and bring another worthy dress that compliments and accentuates me.”

  • TamiSeattle

I hope she’s had her tetanus shots. Who puts fishing lures on Armani Privé?

    • DinaSews

And attaches them by running the fishing line throughout?

    • Nancy Arseneault-Heald

Fishing lures… now I understand why I am seeing fishing wire. Is there a Fishing Theme going on this season?

  • PlethoraofBooks

She is phoning in the pretty.

  • alyce1213

I appreciate the closeups and imagine Italian women madly sewing pailettes and pearls, one by one. I think I may stand alone, but I love this dress, especially the color. You don’t see much lavender, and it’s just right for the South of France. It fits her beautifully, as an Armani should.

    • Sartorial_She

I agree, but wish those Italian ladies had done a better job with the seam running down the back.

      • alyce1213

True, it may have been a hurried tailoring.

    • smayper

I love her face, and appreciate the natural creases in it. And I agree, I love the lavender. Just too much with the necklace.

    • SRQkitten

Alyce, no, you’re not alone, I love the dress color and the necklace. It’s a bit of a Monet, perhaps looking better from a distance.

  • Little_Olive

I don’t know, you guys… too “Elle Woods goes to Cannes” for my taste.

  • her jewelry game has been on point lately.

  • susan6

I love this dress, but I am a sucker for bandage dresses and pailettes. Can’t exactly sit down in this dress without breaking some of those embellishments, though.
Not a fan of the jewelry. It looks kind of fake. The dress has an air of “fun” about it, you don’t need to add jewelry with mixed colors (clutches pearls, waves fan) on top of it.

    • 3boysful

      Agree on the fake look.

      • avoir_du_chien

It reminds me of the multi-coloured rhinestone “princess” necklaces you get in a dress-up kit for your niece.

  • N

Very lovely – the gown shows off her delicate frame, the colorful necklace is a beautiful statement accent. But it feels a bit too safe or not dramatic enough for the Cannes opening ceremony.

  • MarissaLG

No one wants a rash and scrapes along the insides of their arms at the end of the night, no matter how pretty and sparkly the dress is.

  • Michele M.

Naomi Watts’ jewelry is always fantastic.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

    The necklace is gorgeous.

  • Carleenml

would someone please come over to my house and give me eyelashes?

  • MRC210

The fit of the dress is wonky. The bodice is too tight in the back and too big in front. And what is going on in that last shot? It looks like she has a tail made out of bugs.

  • stellavision

I want to marry the necklace.

  • Did she roll around on a Christmas store floor before?

  • mar

As long as the shot is far away enough that the embellishments can’t be made out, the dress looks fine, but up close, those bugs are awful.

  • oh vienna

A thousand sparkly moths to a lilac flame.

  • Jackie4g

SO GLAD to see beautiful necklaces back on the red carpet. I like the dress, but I love the necklace!

    • Cannes is usually good for jewels. I remember a bunch of amazing Chopard pieces over the last couple of years.

  • Tee

Did she make the necklace with a bucket of beads from Michael’s?

  • ChiKat67

Hey Naomi! Maybe you can talk to your (former?) bestie about laying off the botox for a while? You look age and you look FANTASTIC!

    • Imasewsure

Yes major props to her for her beautiful face and the lovely laugh lines

  • Gingerblu

yeah it looks like it got caught in a confetti parade was attacked by shiny insects…..not good.

  • Maddie

    STUNNING.

  • Belle239

I adore her but I want to yank the back of her bodice and make it fit properly. It appears half of us love the necklace and half don’t. I love it – just not sure if it goes with the dress.

  • KittieLynnNYC

    Lovely.

  • MilaXX

    Pretty! Gimme that necklace!
Question for the sewers: Is there any other way besides gluing to attach those jeweled bugs to the dress?

    • DyanSwan

Depending on the embellishment, they can be sewn on. The embellishments on this dress, based on the close up look like they were sewn on.

      • MilaXX

I don’t think I was clear. They look sewn on to me as well. I keep seeing post about seeing the way the jewels are attached. My question is could this level of detail be sewn on without being able to see the threads?

        • Byodo-In

I would say yes, especially with the texture of the fabric. Hand stitched, in and out the same hole. Very time consuming.

        • DyanSwan

I did misunderstand, thank you for the clarification. I would think that the embellishments could be sewn on without the thread showing.

  • DyanSwan

    Refined, lady-like and lovely.

    • portlandmermaid

Agree, she looks great and knows it.

  • Freynika

I’m in the camp that believes the best jewelry looks like candy, so I love this necklace, just maybe not with this particular dress.

That is sure not a sittin’ down kind of dress, is it?

  • B_C_J

Would have preferred the necklace to be only diamonds. As it is, it’s a bit matchy.

  • GemFemme

That Bulgari necklace needs to get on my neck this instant.
The color is lovely but the material and all the stuff hanging off of it look like a snagging nightmare.

  • Shyla

I think it’s an ace bandage with a lot of decoration. Pretty purple though.

  • Apocalipstick Now Redux

Necklace reminds me of Saorise Ronan at BAFTA, I think…

  • steph

Amazing. the bodice gaps in the front and gives her back fat from behind. How does one accomplish that?

  • Byodo-In

I love the look, but the fitting and structure of the bodice does her no favors.

  • KT

    Gorgeous!

  • Tracy_Flick

She’s going fishing for lake trout right after this, and wanted to have lures handy.

  • Imasewsure

It looks really pretty in the one shot looking straight on but it looks amateurish in the others…

  • DrMomLovesLife

    I love it.

  • oneWEIRDword

Ooooh! How GORGEOUS! Breathtaking gown. And that NECKLACE! I’m incoherent with admiration!

  • Pollynation

Purty dress (but can she sit down in it?), breathtaking necklace. Too casual hair.

  • Yoshio

Wow to that necklace. What a delightful confection of sparkle and color!

  • Kimmy

I feel like I have seen this type of dress on her a thousand times recently. And this is one of least successful ones.

  • TRSTL

Hmmm…… I guess I’m alone in thinking she looks really beautiful here. The details on the dress don’t overwhelm it to my eyes and she looks lovely.

  • quiltrx

I kind of love it–automatic pro-lavender bias–even though I really don’t understand what the deal is in the back. I like the embellishments…it looks like she was totally in the way during a sparkly gay fly-fishing tournament.

  • I’m willing to be the cheese who stands alone on this one, but I think the whole look is stunning. That necklace is breathtaking, the color is unusual and flattering to her, and while I get it that one would hope the crew at Armani Prive would be giving their “A” game to a gown to be worn in this venue, I don’t think the fact that one can see stitching in extremely close up & magnified photos distracts from the overall beauty of the gown.

  • DesertDweller79

The trend of designers sticking a bunch of shiny goo gaws all over the dresses is kind of ridiculous. But, it is better than sheer (or sheer lace) over granny panties. So, I’ll refrain from complaining for a few more months.

  • cocohall

It looks like she rolled around on the floor of a glitter factory. I feel like she either needs MORE embellishments or a lot less- this just seems indecisive. But you can’t deny the color and the shape on her. Lovely.

  • NG

    Bulgari, damn!

  • VCR1

Why do I like this so much more than I should? I think she looks fabulous and I love the beautiful color of the dress.

  • Catherine

Just hand over the necklace and no one will get hurt.

  • Bowildhaze

    Best in Show! Brava!
