This has something her previous premiere red carpetry lacked: a wow factor. It’s one hell of an attention-seeking look, which is exactly what she should be going for. This isn’t your Oscar bait movie. It’s your big, loud, cartoony movie, so your dress should be too.  Unfortunately, it’s still got hints of the ticky-tacky she seems to like.

First, the color is spectacular – and highly appropriate for a superhero movie opening.  It fits her well and the broad neckline really works for her. This concludes the complimentary portion of our program.

Once again, she’s sporting these really questionable embellished straps. Sure, this dress needs something to jazz it up, but that’s way too craft store for our tastes. Second, the finishing looks pretty rough, especially at the back and around the bust. And finally, while we’re all for up ‘dos with dramatic gowns, we think this one called for a blowout.

Still, we did say “Wow” when we first saw the shots. That’s half the battle won.

What is that material? Is it (red) velvet??

    • Kim Elmore

I LOVE the color but that fabric has me confused and sad.

      • merciblahblah

I totally agree. I don’t like the dress AT ALL, but the color looks so fantastic on her it becomes a wowsa look.

    • Catherine

It looks like panne velvet, which I love when well done. Unfortunately, the back of this looks like I sewed it.

      • littlemac8

Isn’t panne velvet a winter material?

      • librarygrrl64

It looks really cheap and I’m sure it wasn’t.

  • Karen B

    I’m getting a Midsummer’s Night(gown) Dream

    • Nancy Arseneault-Heald

      I’m getting Christmas.

  • 42Sh

    FIERCE!

    • gotgreyhound

Yes, I love her and I love the gown, but she’s doing that “leaning way back” pose in every shot! It’s a little too much.

      • 42Sh

I don’t know, I see what you mean but I am all for SEXY AND I KNOW IT ladies!
        PS Nice username!

  • SewingSiren

Not enough skilled hands in Milan these days I guess.

    • Really. It looks like silk panne velvet which is a bitch to cut & sew on the bias in the first place. Should not have attempted that zipper in the back. The construction is tragic, and I bet they didn’t even attempt to press the zipper area. From the front, it looks passable; turn around and it’s all ‘Oh, honey, no.’

  • Anna

The look is striking and so is she, but I like it less and less the more I look at it. It’s like Wonder Woman goes to the prom in mall prom clothes (and I just noticed the matching shoes).

And is that velvet or satin?

    • LostInThrace

It looks like bias cut satin. Or some kind of mutant velveteen.

      • Karen B

The Velveteen Rabbit died for this?

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Now that possibility might send me into therapy.

    • Monabel

The close up of the bodice in the fifth photo convinces me it is velveteen. Alas.

      • LostInThrace

Possibly brushed silk, though? I want to give Prada the benefit of the doubt.

    • Eva_baby

Yeah, that was my reaction too. At first I was like “Oooh!” an then the more I looked i was like “Oh.”

I thought it was velveteen too but on second thought I am going with satin because of the wrinkling in the back. Maybe some weird finish on the satin?

    • Sam Smith

The head shot is really striking, the straps make the look in my opinion. I wish the fabric wasn’t so wrinkly/puckery.

      • Amber J

Yeah. The view from the back is just bad. The fabric around the zipper is particularly puckery.

    • Cara

DEFINITELY looks like a nightie from Vickie Secrets.

    • tereliz

      Brushed satin?

    • ADR82

Ding ding ding! and yes, the satin-dye-to-match-payless-specials are killlllling me!

  • your face

She looks great, but the neckline is too wide open. She’s about a half inch of fabric wider than most Adult Video Awards dresses, and that’s not a margin you want to be in.

  • boingboing

Against my better judgement, I think I love this (although I’m side-eyeing what looks like a weird pucker along the back). Love her makeup, too.

  • MannahattaMamma

She looks happy, which is what I always like, as if she likes the way she looks, so that’s nice (even it’s a bit…er…shiny and Seriously Red)…

  • Tarquin

It looks as though her breasts are trying to escape from one another…

    • Wink

Another reason to hate ‘sternum’ necklines.

  • Love it from the front. Crumpled nightgown from the back.

  • JerFeist

STUNNING, and she’s working the hell out of it. The colour’s great, and I actually really like the straps. There’s a weird bit of tugging around the zipper, and it veers a little “A Wonderful Wonder Woman Christmas”, but it’s still a showstopper of a look.

  • laura

BAM. Yeah, the stitching at the back bugs me, and velvet was a bold choice, but it’s striking.

She needs to incorporate more red or red elements into this poledance. Cliche maybe, but the boys are working in subtle character color references into their wardrobes, so it would make sense. Plus, she looks good in red.

  • Jangle57

Maybe she skipped the blowout hair to avoid comparison with Lynda Carter’s WW? Otherwise, the more I look at the dress, the less I like it…

    • (((Sunny Day☼)))

Agreed. I think an updo would be fine if it was less severe. Something softly pinned up would look gorge.

  • fromanotherplanet

The fabric looks wrinkled and cheap. Basically a red prom dress with bejeweled sleeves. No, gracias.

Also, I am sick of these superhero movies. I hope they phase out, like soon.

    • MilaXX

Not a chance. Off the top of my head I can think of at least 4 movies and probably 3 tv/Netflix shows coming out. We’re gonna ride the superhero train for at least another 5 years

      • Wink

It’s ‘re-boot’ madness. “Hey, I have a brilliant idea. Let’s make the same movie again – but with different actors!” Ugh.

      • cowper

You know we’re getting to the dregs when there is an “Aquaman” movie.

        • MilaXX

I’m actually more interested in some of the lessor know superheroes as opposed to the 457032 Batman incarnation or the 958464 Spiderman.

          • cowper

Sure, I just remember Aquaman as one of the least exciting cartoons from my childhood. All I remember him doing was commanding dolphins with very visible sonar waves.

  • sgac37

Oh, now that’s more like it.

  • In_Stitches

I was ready to fight any criticism lobbed at this, but T and Lo are totally right; the finishing is lacking and a blow out would have really taken this somewhere. I do ,however, love the bedazzled straps. It’s a beautiful nod to armor and it mitigates any negligee comparisons.

  • MilaXX

Love the color and I don’t mind the straps. The fabric is a little nightgown-y but the overall look is working like gangbusters.

  • Belle239

A Prada gown that costs a fortune and the seams are all wonky. Good grief. That would not have been acceptable for me as a seamstress, why should it be for Prada? That being said, red is a dynamite color for her.

  • Tiff79

I was semi-okay with it until I got to the matching bridesmaid shoes.

  • GillianHolroyd

Her head looks great. Normally her hair is a bit flat so I think she looks more polished here. I like the embellished straps more than the too-skimpy bodice and the ill-fitting back. The color is fantastic on her (and I usually think red is too cliched).

  • It’s about time. I love this. It’s pretty damn tacky, but I love it anyway.

  • (((Sunny Day☼)))

I liked the idea of the straps, but the result is SO heavy here in comparison to the fabric. It makes it look as if the dress is struggling to hold her boobs up. Couple that with that wide neckline and gurl….. Not a good look.

That color is devine on her though.

  • SugarSnap108

I can’t tell what the material is, but it reads cheap — which is never good.

  • marlie

I really like this. Or rather, I really like the idea of this. The bodice looks really good on her, and I don’t even mind the embellished straps. Where she loses me is with the too-shiny, cheap-looking fabric. If the fabric were of a nicer quality, I’d 100% be on board.

  • Much more Amazonian, I agree.

This dress is the story of most of the DC comics movies; they lose it in the details.

  • B_C_J

The construction is a bit subpar but the dress does the job very effectively. She looks like a movie star.

  • Martha Anderson

great color and design but questionable fabric.
I like the updo and the straps. You cannot wear hair down with those straps. I think any hate one might have for the straps would possibly change with a different fabric.

Hate the puckered finish in the zip and bust

  • ashtangajunkie

She looks fantastic in red, but I quite hate this dress. The straps and fabric make it look kind of cheap and tacky.

  • Nicole

    Finally! Wonder Woman showed up.

  • Sagecreek

When she’s 80, she’ll pull out these photos and think, “Damn, I was FINE.” And she’ll be right.

  • GemFemme

Finally this girl looks like a movie star.

  • DrMomLovesLife

I don’t mind the straps, the hair is great, and the dress color is divine on her. That said, I agree with the whole “fabric looks cheap/wonky seams/bridesmaid shoes” thing. For me, though, it’s the posing that’s the most annoying. The leaning backwards/head tilted downwards looks like she has scoliosis.

  • steph

    Is that panne velvet?
Would explain the shine factor and the wonky seams.
The bust is fitting not great, and the DTM shoes are hiddy.

But, despite all this, she does look fabu.

  • evave2

The color overwhelms any issue with the dress for me. She looks great.

  • Wink

“This concludes the complimentary portion of our program.” I just love you guys!

  • tryinnottobetoojudgy

I just don’t understand how a couture dress that probably costs more than all the clothes I have ever bought and will ever buy in my entire life can look so cheap and poorly constructed. Is it that it just doesn’t photograph well, but in person is heavenly? I agree that the color and basic silhouette are very nice for Gal (though that is a lot of chestal nudity), but I am just dumbfounded by how expensive it doesn’t look. The way this season is going, though, I guess I should just be grateful that it isn’t embellished with 42 appliques of flowers, butterfiles, dragonflies, and ladybugs.

  • Lilithcat

The color is marvelous, but unfortunately there is something about that shade of red that makes a dress look cheap and tacky when there’s so much of it.

The straps are actually the best thing about that dress.

    • Shawn EH

They certainly do some amazing things for her figure, if you look at her more casual look from the 2014 Comic-Con appearance with Benry.

  • Tee

It looks better on Instagram where I’m scrolling at 90 miles an hour. I get the initial “WOW” factor without time to pick the look apart.

  • What Wonder Woman wears to bed.

  • cocohall

Given what her co-stars have been trotting out (The Dullsville Twins) this is fantastic. Color, drama, and a stunning face. Sure it looks a little ticky tacky on close inspection, but you have to give it to her for the Head Swivel Factor. Girl came to play!

  • KTBSN

The styling is very nicely done here.

  • OrangeChia

Great dress, suuuuuuuch a terrible fabric choice.

Amy’s dress fabric with the rest of all of this and it’d be stunning. Perfect accessorizing from the ankle up.

  • I love, love, LOVE it at first look. But the more I scroll back up…the more it falls apart. However – for pure impact, it’s FANTASTIC.

  • quiltrx

The back looks HORRIBLE around the zipper. Like they spent so much time on the front they couldn’t bother making the back properly. Kind of ruins it for me. And I’m not crazy about the too-wide neckline.

    • Gatto Nero

The puckering really detracts, and the stitching around the bust isn’t great either.

  • VCR1

This is a much better dress than the one she wore to the NY premiere. I love the color. The dress looks less great the more you look at it though. It seems to be wrinkly. The back isn’t good either. I can’t tell if it’s just really puckered and wrinkled or if it’s supposed to be ruching at the zipper.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

I agree with TLo that the back has some issues. I wonder if the dress had a simplerstrap and she had worn a really stunning necklace?
That said, the color is wonderful, and this is so much more how I want to see Wonder Woman on the RC

  • Shawn EH

Somebody is very ready for her moment, and she’s going to be at it awhile since her own star vehicle is still to come!

  • ojosazules

I think she is slaying it. Gorgeous. Love the red velvet.

  • Bland Gland

I’m actually really not fond of the make up. It adds extra tacky to the existing tacky of the dress.

  • tereliz

Great for the venue, but the fabric looks cheap. Love the silhouette, though.

  • jilly_d

WHY ARE THE BOOBS SO FAR APART?!?!

    • 1964edithgrove

And flat. Not to mention a bit droopy.

  • HelenofTroy

I actually like the straps and overall the look is definitely a sex bomb wow but that fabric makes me itchy. It photographs so cheap looking and there is no way that dress costs less than my car…

  • Imasewsure

Tacky as hell but she looks fantastic

  • Radish

I just don’t think that wide boob coverage is flattering on anyone.

  • DaringMiss

The dress is very Fredericks of Hollywood, but lord, she is selling it. Her face skills are excellent!

  • Little_Olive

Screw Kate Hudson, here are my #abgoals.

  • boweryboy

All of the dress criticisms is why I’ve disliked Prada lately. Prada used to be my go to for fun and fabulous and funky, now it’s like Prada attended the School of Versace – in other words, tacky.

  • Tatiana Luján

There is something weird going on with the seams and the shoes are tacky, but I love everything else, updo, straps, shape, colour, makeup, everything

  • EEKstl

I love this on her and am even ok with the up do as those straps are the star, but when are ladystars and their gays going to realize that shiny satin is NOT their friend on the RC? It renders a rather nice dress wrinkled and cheap.

  • SneakyKitty

It looks great in the first shot, and then it just gets progressively sadder. I think I’d like it better if it were a different fabric.

  • Mathilde

Seriously, I saw this and just went “YAAAAS!” which means it’s doing exactly what it needs to.

  • Kaonashi

I like everything about this except for the fabric; it’s wrinkly in the back and seams are puckering. Despite all of that, she looks great.

  • Pollynation

Two thirds less “embellishment” and this would have been a winner. She’s pretty darned spectacular, though.

  • lamh

Beautiful girl. Gail looks great here. Saw the movie last night, and all I’ll say is I hope the director of WW does better by her than Zack Synder did.

    Oof.

  • GoddessOfThunder

    That color is everything !

  • largishbearishAtlish

Is she having back spasms? Whats with the weird posing?

So ready for this pole dance to be over.

  • ladybane

    She should always wear red.

  • oneWEIRDword

    BAM!

  • AbbaGurl

Satin sheets circa 1975. Pulling at the zipper as satin is wont to do. But better.

  • N

I actually like the embellished straps, I think they are striking and add a statement focus (hence, pulling the hair up makes sense). The wrinkly fabric and the execution of the design at the bust look a bit cheap, but it is still a knockout look for her despite that, great to see her in bold colour.

  • Bellatrix Lestrange

The back is sad. Good we don’t have many pictures of the back, but overall she’s selling it to me from the front.

  • HeyGirlHey683

Huh. I haven’t really minded most of the deep, broad necklines I’ve seen before now, but I find this one to be horrible. The way the cups are angled outward really makes her whole boob/shoulder area look weird — her boobs look like they’re practically on the side of her torso!

  • jif

The metal embellishments on the straps are my favourite part of this dress, by far.

  • Gingerblu

tacky, that is what that material and gown are, just tacky. And what’s with her head/chin always pointed down?

  • mila_8

    It’s a WERQ for me.

  • Fräulein K.

Love the idea of it, the straps too. Really think skipping the zipper and solving the closure some other way would have been a good idea. It’s silk velvet cut on the bias, which is not cheap, but an incredible PITA to work with.

  • Frank Lithiumz

She looks wonderful, except that the dress under certain angles and lighting look somewhat velvety. *shudders*
