Well, look at you, Matthew Crawley:

We’ve had a grand old time ripping him a bit when he makes a public appearance, partially because the style wasn’t quite there and partially because he reeked of try-hard, but he shut our whore mouths with this one. He looks great. The full pants are completely wrong with the very fitted jacket, but the styling and the colors look fabulous on him. And we have to admit (a little sheepishly) that we’re looking forward to that live action Beauty and the Beast remake, if for no other reason than the insane cast.

    A little too…Cristofuh from Sopranos

  • Karen B

I can’t see beyond his Blue Steel Smizing. It’s distracting from the neckbeard.

    • gabbi

That third photo is pure wannabe GQ cover.

  • Catherine

Please make neck beards go away. Other than that, he looks great.

Hi Dan! Making the double breasted jacket work, I see. Kudos, dude. But yeah, those pants? Too loose.

If the reviews for the live action Beauty and the Beast are half way decent, I am *dragging* my kids to see it. (Yes, I have to drag my kids to see movies. We’re weird like that.)

    • I’ve never wanted to own a double-breasted jacket, until now. Love how fitted and short it is.

  • Kelly

Dan Stevens! Tbh, I’d forgotten about Dan Stevens. All that brouhaha about his leaving DA for, I don’t know, bigger and better things or something, and then he seemed pretty much to sink without a trace. Of course, that could just be me being oblivious. I’m not a fan of these new multi-button jackets, and you’re totally right about the full pants, TLo, but yeah. . .old Dan is looking good.

    • Agent Sculder

You should check him out in The Guest, which I think is available on Netflix streaming. It’s a really clever horror/thriller movie and he’s excellent in it. He was also good in a supporting role in A Walk Among the Tombstones.

  • VCR1

He looks good, agree about the pants though.
I will definitely see the live action Beauty and the Beast. Looks like it’ll be a musical? It does have an unbelievable cast!

    • AnneElliot

They had me at “Ewan McGregor as Lumiere.” I was really hoping Gugu Mbatha-Raw was Belle, but Emma Watson will do nicely.

      • VCR1

Yes! That was the bit of casting that made me feel like I have to see this movie. That and Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts. Gugu Mubatha-Raw would’ve been an excellent Belle. At least we still get to see her in the movie.

        • AlisonHendryx

I’m very curious how they are going to do the “before” parts in a live action… will it be motion-capture?

(Also, I am sheepishly looking forward to seeing this, maybe on RedBox or something, because, well, Beauty and the Beast is a deeply troubling narrative, and honestly, I’m sad Emma Watson is doing it. I’m sad anyone is doing it. The story needs to be seriously revamped to the point of being nothing like the original before I’m truly ok with it…) (Steps off soap box)

          • VCR1

You make some excellent points. Here’s hoping they’ll revamp the troubling parts of the story and try to correct the problems. I was thinking it would be like the Broadway musical though.
I’m sure motion capture will be done. Hope it doesn’t look too creepy!

  • Anna

A solid pretty good. I wish he’d shaved, though. Because as we saw in that Giorgio Armani Made-to-Measure ad he did with Matt Bomer and Chen Kun, he can look really, REALLY good (hot).

In fact, why DIDN’T he get a made-to-measure Armani since he is one of their models??

    • Jackie4g

The only thing I can figure is, that is the way Armani wants the pants shown. Because otherwise, they’d have fit him properly, right?

  • Stuart Miller

Quite fetching–even with the neck beard and the too-short jacket.

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Diane

    the jacket is gorge..

  • Elentari

we’re looking forward to that live action Beauty and the Beast remake, if for no other reason than the insane cast. <–THIS

    • Gatto Nero

As long as it’s not a frickin’ musical!

      • random_poster

        It is a musical.

        • Shawn EH

That is one insane cast. Shades of Into the Woods?

        • Gatto Nero

          I’m out.

    • littlemac8

I just checked out the cast…I’ll be seeing it! But won’t our friend here have to bulk up to play Beast??

    • MarieLD

But I worry about Emma Watson keeping up with the rest. She’s a darling. I hope she does well.

  • ashtangajunkie

The upper half is looking fantastic and I like shiny shoes, but those pants are not good.

  • MRC210

I am so ready for that movie. Ewan McGregor, Luke Evans, Emma Watson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kevin kline, Stanley Tucci … I’ll just sit here looking at the cast list until it comes out.

    • Warmheartedgirl_Seattle

Swoon worthy cast! This guy is the only one I’m not familiar with, but it looks like he’ll do nicely!

    • 3boysful

      and Audra McDonald!

      J’adore Stanley Tucci.

    • random_poster

I am so ready for this movie.

    • Anna

and Chris Evans as Gaston… perfect

      • Anna

Woops I misread it, it’s Luke Evans actually. Chris Evans would have been so much better?

        • GorgeousThings

But he already played the prince in “Enchanted”, so they probably wanted to get someone new.

          • julnyes

I don’t think Chris Evans was in Enchanted.

          • GorgeousThings

Oh shoot – you’re right. It was James Marsden. I get all those blue-eyed, chiseled-featured Marvel superheroes

          • julnyes

Are you thinking of Chris Pine in Into the Woods?

  • Ashleigh

    you mean, trousers 😉

  • Melani R

HEY BOO. It’s so good to see you looking fine.

  • The hell with the pants. And all the clothes.

  • Gatto Nero

Agree about the trousers. But the fitted jacket is ideal for him (if a little tight in the sleeves). He’s looking goooood.

  • imspinningaround

Respectfully, I disagree. The colors and textures are quite nice, but the fits are all wonky (I can see the outline of his iPhone 6+ inside his jacket!) and the pants look like Dockers. Also, the rusty hair and eyebrow color is not working for him.

  • bessann28

    Oh Matthew. SIIIIIGH.

    • MRC210

What might have been, eh? I’m sighing too.

  • graziella

Oh, Matthew, we miss ye. Couldn’t Dan come back to Downton this season as Matthew’s evil twin brother lost at sea all these years? It works in the daytime soaps!

    • cowper

Or we get some sort of Sherlock-DA mashup where Dan didn’t really die but faked his death because….because he realized that he really just wanted to be under the under butler. And then he comes back and sweeps Thomas off his feet and carries him off to London.

  • Shawn EH

I feel like he’s starved himself, and yet it looks good on him.

  • Nancy Arseneault-Heald

He looks a lot less sleazy here with his original blondish hair. It’s amazing how bad he looked when he dyed the hair and beard darker.

  • OrangeChia

    Well, hey there sailor.

  • anonylind

    So dishy.

  • B_C_J

I’m in the minority but I like the looser fitted trousers. They set off the jacket & give the entire look a vintage feel. He looks splendid.

    • GillianHolroyd

The jacket is amazing, agree about the vintage-look trousers. It’s the dark shirt and tie that bug, I feel like they’re not complementing the rest of the outfit.

  • MilaXX

I wish the pants were better fitted because this is a really nice look. These type of double breast jackets are hard for most men to play off, but it’s working for him.

  • portlandmermaid

I love the Beast before he turns into the pukey little prince. I hope I’m not disappointed.

  • oh vienna

I want to believe, but I just can’t with the jacket.

  • jonnyf8

I still think he’s better with a little more meat on him.

  • kittyvscupcake

    Dapper Dan!

  • frannyprof

    I. Cant. Wait.

  • boweryboy

At first I thought he was a Helmsworth.

  • Belle239

Ah, he’s certainly an eye-pleaser after looking at all that Gucci crap. Well done.

  • Kate Andrews

Ewan can ALWAYS be my guest. Nice jacket, Dan.

  • MissAmynae

Can we get a remake of “The Parent Trap” with him and Chris Hardwick? Because that would be adorable.

  • A_guy01

Well fuck me gently with a chainsaw, Dan Stevens. You look great, aside from the neckbeard (seriously? you don’t have a razor? did a razor kill your family or something)

  • marlie

I like this from the waist up. The cut of those pants is all wrong (pleated? NO.), but the top half looks really good. And I like the shoes, too.

  • thesevenendless

He looks so much better after gaining back some needed weight from that time he was suuuuuuuper skinny for a while.

  • throwslikeagirl

I’ll never forgive him for leaving “Downton Abbey”, but my gawd, he’s one handsome man. He’ll be a sexy beast and wow– what a cast!

  • Cousin Matthew *heart eyes*

  • smayper

He is standing up straight, not making a goofy expression, and not giving the dreaded thumbs-up or finger guns. He is also doing that great trick of looking (and turning his neck) diagonally rather than straight-on, which for some reason women are taught to do, but men almost never. It’s consistent in every photo. Good posing plus great colors plus great eyes and doing a lot of the work here, I think.

  • LibKat

Given how well Cinderella turned out I have some hope for Beauty and the Beast. But it’s my favorite of the animated movies, so there’s a bit of me muttering “They better not screw this up.”

  • Donna Deal

Dan Stevens perfecting the ‘NOT Matthew Crawley’ look. I still like him. He could be doing so much…like American tv.
