It’s like a little fireworks display in dress form. Yes, it looks stiff and yes, maybe the hem is too long and yes, it seems a little odd for such a heavy-looking dress to not have sleeves, but for us, this is all about our favorite maxim about good style: the right dress on the right lady at the right time.

We know good and well that there will be disagreement with us on this one, so let’s all vote it out, shall we?

  • love it.

    • gotgreyhound

If only the hem were 6 inches shorter!! But I love the pattern and shape.

  • Sarah Walsh

Mmfff…it’s out for me. Not a resounding OUT, just an out. It’s so stiff and heavy and fussy and I don’t love the giant grommets.

    • BayTampaBay

I agree OUT! I have never “got” Marc Jacobs or Prada…never understood the love.

    • Sam Smith

I thought it was constructed from coins, which I thought might be cool, but way too heavy and stiff.

  • luludexter

In. I can’t say I love it, because it’s not a good dress, but she looks fine and for the most part is pulling it off. It helps that it was styled right, which is to say minimally.

    • I have to say that I love your “Marxism” avatar. I also have to say that I too vote IN, and for the exact reasons you cite.

  • Poeta Paz

Is she pregnant? It can of looks like she has a bump.
    Maybe I need more coffee

    • ChiKat67

I thought the exact same thing!

    • rubyclaire

I think you need more coffee.

    • livesarah

I thought so too, but from examining the other photos, I’m pretty sure it’s just an unfortunate position where the light is hitting that unflattering dress.

  • Sarah

Weird but in a good way. IN.

  • Nancer

    In. It’s fun!

  • Anna

Minor in, disappointed in the hair and the shoes. That hem length calls for better hair to offset it.

Blow the hair out and swap the Jennifer Aniston shoes for those dark burgundy Louboutins and it would really be an IN for me.

    • aelizabethpm

      Agree 100%

    • Imasewsure

Seriously these shoes ONLY work with a sparkly towel dress…. why why why Em? Why?

    • Coleen

OR if you must do naked sandals, you needed a stronger toenail color. Really.

  • In_Stitches

Too stiff and shapeless for the length, plus the lining underneath the cutouts is the dingy color of old, milky coffee. OUT.

    • Nancy Arseneault-Heald

The model had actual holes in her dress. I get the desire to line those holes, but I wish they had picked a better color. Would a brighter color have been too much?

      • In_Stitches

I don’t think so. If there’s an interesting detail in a dress like that, take advantage of it. A pale blue would be nice and seasonal, but a bright neon yellow would take it somewhere as well.

    • Badriya Al-Badi’a

The lining under the cutouts also ruined it for me. Also don’t like the lipstick color. Out.

  • Out. Hate the brown underneath. Hate the makeup.

    • Jamie

Don’t like the makeup at all. The copper eyes clash horribly with the lipstick.

    • Charm City

Yes! It looks like several of the embellishments fell off.

  • renad

    Stumpifying and weird. Out.

  • weetiger3

In. Blunt definitely carries it off.

  • Gatto Nero

In. Except for the naked shoe, this is a great look for her.

  • DuBey2

  • Janet B

Cut outs lined with brown? Vinyl collar? Hahaha

    • kimmeister

Exactly. Not to mention the awkward length + ankle strap shoes. OUT.

  • BendinIntheWind

    LOVE IT. IN.

  • Friedl Vanluchene

OUT. Kindergarten project with crown corks.

  • Pamdela

In. Even if it’s a skosh too long.

  • Buellie413

Love it. It’s eye catching and she looks gorgeous.

  • Karen B

The lined cut outs remind me of trying on the wrong shade of foundation at the make-up counter.

  • Lilah

  • ireneY

Nope. Encrusting a long sleeveless polo with craters does not elevate this dowdy silhouette.

  • Erica

IN. Very unusual in the best way.

  • EarlyXer

Interesting for sure, but length, color and bad shoes put it in the small out category for me.

  • MK03

    IN. She looks fab.

  • She’s wearing a vase. OUT.

  • In for the dress. Out for the head.

  • GemFemme

IN! Those embellishments look like little gears, which reminds me of steampunk, which I freaking love!

  • Belle239

IN, but mostly because she is Emily Blunt.

  • Liz-motherfcking-Taylor

  • IN. Love it, too.

  • clatie

I would like it more if the brown dots or cut-outs or whatever they are weren’t the color of L’Eggs pantyhose.

  • B_C_J

Minor in. The length is really bothering me. I would have loved it if it were to the floor. Then the stiffness would work to the advantage of the gown.

  • Lisa Roberts

I wish is were a little shorter – but IN – she looks fabulous!

  • Claire

    In, but the hem bugs.

  • Cathy S

I love the holes with the sparkly things, but not the holes that are empty, if that makes any sense.

    • DinaSews

I think it might have been better with a blue underlining instead of nude? Not sure but those empty holes are detracting from the overall look.

  • Jessica Freeman

OUT for the shit make up job alone. But the dress is too long and stiff and the shoes aren’t working.

  • Lindsey Romain

In, but I detest that lip color.

  • Nariya

In, but I agree that it’s too long and I want heavier eye makeup with it for some reason.

  • evave2

    IN. “in” IN.

  • Yuck. It’s like a sleeveless rainslicker without the rain. OUT

  • Beto

I don’t know, it reminds me of the bathroom curtain on my gram’s house. From the waist up it works great, the skirt is not.

  • AlisonHendryx

    In! Love it very much.

  • OUT – too stiff and the brown cut outs don’t work

  • greymain

    BIG IN.

  • MilaXX

    IN. I have zero complaints

  • Ivanisevic

    It’s like the burger, IN-N-OUT!

  • Sagecreek

Hate the cutouts. They are cutouts, right, and not just tan dots? The fact that I can’t even really tell is just one more reason that this is an OUT.

  • Leandra

IN. I just really like it on her.

  • Lori

In. It’s a weird dress and I really wish she wasn’t wearing naked shoes, but she’s making it work. On her it seems fun instead of totally cray.

  • RussellH88

    I love it.

  • amanda siegelson

i love it despite the brown cut outs – which are really just disappointing. brown? why?

    • Mefein

I think we’re supposed to believe we’re seeing skin. In fact, it looks like in the original they are actual holes.

      • amanda siegelson

i would certainly support that more than the brown.

  • teensmom99

In with all the caveats TLo stated. When it works it works. That’s style.

  • Tricia Rose

IN- My only quibble is the large button sash down the front. Lose that and it would be perfect to me!

  • I kind of like it, but ultimately out. That lipstick is entirely too wrong for the dress. The dress itself is too long and too stiff. Naked shoes and bland hair. Out.

  • boweryboy

OUT. It looks heavy, the design is too busy, and I dislike the peek-a-boo skin holes.

    • Little_Olive

Those holes are a monstrosity. But if I’m not wrong, some are holes and some are patched somehow? Like with suede? My eyes hurt.I can’t keep trying to figure it out.

  • Sanglots longs

I like the stiffness and sleevelessness. They work here, I think. It’s the iffy tan lining stuff that puzzles me. Still, I’ll give her an IN because she’s making me believe in the look as a whole.

  • rubyclaire

Mild IN. I like it; if it were a little shorter, I’d like it more.

  • BobStPaul

I would expect to hate it but on her it somehow works, so it’s an IN for me.

  • In – I like it, though I don’t know about that length.

  • Gatita

Out. It needed to be either knee length of floor length. As is, it looks dowdy and obliterates her waist.

  • mar

In. I really love the dress.

  • Imasewsure

I can’t imagine voting this one out but then again I hate those little collars and the shoes are dreadfully dull (and wrong). Still big IN…. this is a great dress

  • OUT. It’s stiff and I hate the hem length.

  • Little_Olive

What am I missing here? My gut reaction was “yuck” -and hasn’t improved much. It’s stiff, it’s heavy, the embellishments barely deserve that title, and oh, yes, naked sandals.

Sorry, my lovely Miss E. You are out.

  • tereliz

I want to love it, but I can’t get past how much it’s making her resemble a Christmas tree. Lowercase in.

  • ChelseaNH

I really like the idea of it, but the brown spots are casting a pall on the overall exuberance. I think that tips it over to an out, for me.

  • lunchcoma

In. It’s a weird dress, but it’s enough in her wheelhouse that I don’t mind it.

  • happygolucky7

Eh. Love her. Not the dress.

  • FuhUgh

    IN. Love her unreservedly.

  • Bradio311

No likey. It’s looks like something from a Project Runway “hardware store” challenge.

  • carolina_dawn

IN! But please don’t ask me to explain why. It was love at first sight.

  • Mathilde

OUT. I feel like it’s covered in eyes, and they are following me around the room.

  • Gail

In. Only because the collar fits her and the dress. This dress on another person, it would be an Out.

  • Lilithcat

I really, really liked this dress until I saw how long it was. This needs to be shorter. Just above the knee, possible even a mini-dress.

    But, on balance, IN.

  • the webmistress

It is sooo out it’s not even in this galaxy. Terrible hair, terrible makeup, disco flesh eating virus dress.

  • In. Love it. Would have loved it even more a little bit shorter.

  • Judy_S

Ugh. Just plain out on that dress, though she herself looks great.

  • Ravel Puzzlewell

I want this entire dress to be made out of eyeballs.

    • Shawn EH

The wacky ones that spin around?

  • LeelaST

Knee-length & I would love it. Not bad though.

  • Kristen

    She looks fabulous!

  • formerlyAnon

In. So in that I was waiting to read you two to figure out what anyone might not like about this one.

  • RedRaven617

  • unbornfawn

Not crazy about that stiff collar thing, and the dress is too long, Don’t think those are the best shoes and I’m not a fan of the lip color. Yet. The dress fits perfectly and it looks wonderful on her. IN.

  • Bowildhaze

In for everything but the shoes are meh.

  • Stuart Miller

Looks like cheap and nasty vinyl with buttons sewn on. OUT!

  • mdcoon127

Dress in, she is in, shoes are out

  • Catherine

In – I wish the hem were shorter but otherwise I LOVE this dress.

  • crash1212

    IN – love it.

  • Sh-Sh-Sugartown

Love La Blunt, but OUT. Just not flattering, hate the brown, dislike the collar and the makeup is not good.

  • chelseaad

I hate that some of the holes are lined and some aren’t. The ones that are, I hate that poopy color. Otherwise in.

  • frosty dufour

Beautifully done, but I can’t with midi dresses.

  • Mona_Visa

When the robot overlords come, they’ll design dresses like this for us. OUT

Did I say overlords? I meant protectors. IN

  • A_guy01

OUT – looks like bottle caps on a plastic table cloth.

  • Kaonashi

    In. She looks great!

  • Shannyn Marie

In, her risk taking skills are on point, even with the dreaded mumzy length

  • Eric Stott

    It needs sleeves

  • Bad Idea Jeans

Me no likey, but SHE is fabulous.

  • PumpkintheCat

It would be such a fab dress without those brown holes. I’m sorry Em, it’s an OUT.

  • Carly Clement

LOVE – i like that the length (which is odd seeing as I dont like tea all that often) I just think it is a great dress for Emily!

  • Pollynation

Hmm… out for me. The dress is weirdly boring considering how busy it is. She, on the other hand, is gorgeous as usual.

  • conniemd

In. I’d prefer a shorter length, but it looks interesting and she looks good in it.

  • marlie

  • GillianHolroyd

ah no. This whole look, the dress on the model is cute enough but here, lined with what looks like support hose, no. Plus, her hair is too severe, her makeup is harsh and the length is too long, esp with those shoes. She has looked a zillion times better before. Send this to Audreybot.

  • Mary from Boston

  • OrangeChia

    Out at this length.

    In at the knee.

  • livesarah

Out. Fireworks are pretty and interesting. This one doesnt have pretty, and whether it’s even interesting is debateable.

  • Liliter

In. I’m confused why this was an ‘in or out’ post because she looks fabulous

  • gefeylich

IN. I just watched Into the Woods again, & she was the best part (well, James Corden too). She is always gorgeous, even in a heavy plasticky fireworks dress.

  • LibKat

Out. The caucasian-flesh colored mesh effect is enough for me to say nope.

  • Jessica O

    IN. Love it!

  • AnniNoone

Can she sit? If she can sit, it’s an IN.

  • Shawn EH

Out. Hate the silhouette, hate the little peepholes, don’t even like her hair. Too fussy by far.

  • DrMomLovesLife

Out. Don’t like the peepholes, collar, ‘fireworks’, cut-outs . . . all of it.

  • EEKstl

Oh, IN! This is working on every level.

  • Tom Markiewicz

    OUT. Too heavy/visually overwhelming

  • Mousentrude

In. Minor flaws (length, heaviness) but she’s still stunning in it.
