Yes, this makes perfect sense. The moment someone figured out how to make an edgy-twee warrior-princess dress, who else but Michelle Williams would be first in line to wear it? We actually kind of like it, even if we think she looks a bit like a giant purse.

It’s a shame about the booties. They are FABULOUS but we think the dress would’ve worked better with a more conventional shoe. It’s such a stiff and heavy-looking garment that it makes us think a lighter, smaller shoe might have helped elevate it a little. As it is, she wouldn’t look out of place with a sword and spear.

Hair and Makeup straight out of the Klute look book.

    • Imasewsure

Oh my gawd… you are so right!! Straight up Fonda and your astute analysis has made me look at it with a more forgiving eye 🙂
Can’t forgive the dress though… just not working for me at all

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I wonder if she has grown her hair for a role, as the short pixie style usually works so well for her.

  • KendraMR

    I so covet those booties!

    • KiP07

Yes! For me they are the only good part of this look. She should have styled around them!

      • BerriG

I like them, too, but am not sure what one would wear with them. Any suggestions?

        • Carly Clement

A cute denim skirt with a white tank top and leather jacket. Or some form or purple circle skirt dress.

        • fursa_saida

Tights/leggings and a tunic or non-leather minidress. I suppose if one could pull off jeans so skinny they could be tucked in, one could do that and a kickass blazer.

  • MilaXX

I think the hair is too twee for this look and really can’t get past leather dresses and bare legs. Most times it feel like the look needs tights or at least pantyhose.

    • Sophie

Or shin guards! I can’t take this look very seriously. She makes me think of a tiny valkyrie.

      • in a pickle

It’s very Halloween. If she was ten, I’d say adorable and give her candy. It just doesn’t read authentically her at all.

  • Gatita

I hate this dress. Twee studded leather should not be a thing. And her eye makeup is doing her no favors.

    • lastbutnotleast

And the Christmas tinsel! Is no one else offended by zipped, studded leather trimmed in tinsel?

      • Anna

I was trying to figure out what that was! Brillo pads??

    • kimmeister

The eye makeup isn’t so bad close up, but from a distance, it is super harsh.

  • Grumpy Girl

Her hair looks so stiff, and her makeup is harsh–it gives off a pissed-off warrior vibe that I suspect was not exactly what they were going for when attending an awards shindig. Unless they misspelled her name on the invitations and her publicist made her go anyway, so she really is planning to go warrior-vicious after the dessert.

  • Chloe Denmark

Its like light bondage twee with the zippers over the boobs and what not. I feel like this could be more punked out (like old school Courtney Love or something) and she tried to do princess fairy in leather.

  • she looks pissed!

    • Cranky Boo Sez

First thought I had was “who pissed in her cornflakes?” Great minds, and all that.

  • Wink

Swap the booties for gladiator sandals and it becomes a full-on costume. Nah.

  • Pj Bryant

    Her makeup is so heavy

    • 3boysful

I can’t get past it. I’d almost say she got mad at her MUA and DIY’d it.

  • KateShouldBeWorking

    Slay, mama!
    (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)

  • anotherkate

An LV I don’t hate, imagine that!

  • Windswept

Margot Tennenbaum? Is there a reboot happening??

  • Capt. Renault

A major Major Houlihan vibe happening. So sour.

    • HomeOfficeGirl

      I thought the same!!!

  • formerlyAnon

I’m struggling with the hair. I want to like it but . . . maybe I just want something more severe or hard-edged to go with the cosplay? (I am convinced there IS a sword involved. Security just made her leave it in coat check.)

    • BetteDavisFan

She just needs more gel or gloopy gloppy stuff to make it more spiky.

  • spirit52

I hate the dress/skirt…love the boots

  • PeaceBang

She is peeved because her stylist told her she can’t throw a cropped angora cardigan over this.

  • Janet B

What the dress code was for this event? Michelle and Emmy wore short leather dresses, Gwyneth wore a long velvet gown, Judy Greer a summer skirt, and Zoe came in a nightie.

    I like her boots.

  • smayper

Her expression does the exact opposite of selling the look. What is the opposite of selling? And it’s not buying.

    • kimmeister

  • Shannyn Marie

    Games of Thrones Realness

  • Stuart Miller

    It’s a Halloween costume, right?

  • Freynika

A million times Oh Hell No, and the makeup makes her look stale, like a dive bartender one week from retirement who’s spent her life smoking.

  • BetteDavisFan

I really like this look! ). It works for her. Or maybe I just have low standards. The hair is especially good. I like that haircut a lot. My hair kind of has that shape, which is good for petite frames. There’s a Russian figure skater who had a haircut like this.

    • Evgeni Plushenko?

I kid. I am ready for glam Michelle Williams.

      • BetteDavisFan

Haha, no. Not a Russky mullet. The haircut I’m thinking of was on Elena Berezhnaya in the 2002 Olympics. A gorgeous layered bob cut.

She was part of the pairs figure skating team that got screwed over by the media in that “judging” scandal. They won fair and square and the media hyped it into a scandal. Stupid. It ruined the sport b/c it changed the scoring forever. Ugh.

  • I think she looks pretty great right up to those booties, which are pretty fabulous but not with this dress.

  • Lilithcat

I think the dress is fun, but there’s something off about the proportions. The waist seems to sit too high.

  • quiltrx

The dress is a Monet…at first glance I was shocked how much I liked this on her. But the closer we get, it has a lot of weird detailing, doesn’t it?
And I totally agree–the boots are killer (to me if it goes up that high, it’s a boot not a bootie), but too heavy for the dress.

  • FuhUgh

I wonder what Xena, Warrior Princess, is doing today?

  • kimmeister

I’m dismayed by the visible bra. I wonder if it only became visible under the flashbulbs?

  • Truthiness2U

I think you meant to say, she would not look out of place with her spear and magic helmet (spear and magic helmet? SPEAR AND MAGIC HELMET!!) uhem. But yes, like the dress, the make-up hair is meant to be edgy so I get it, but it seems a bit rough. And yes, the booties do not go at all.

  • marlie

LOVE the dress and LOVE the shoes. I’m not 100% sold on them together, but I still really like this. This is definitely her look.

  • mickiemonkey

    Grumpy cat.

  • GemFemme

It’s a multi purpose skirt. After wearing it to an event, you could then go home to scrub your dirty pots and pans with the Brillo pads glued to the skirt.

  • joannanyc

    Post-apocalyptic twee

  • marcia miller

I actually really like the dress. Hate the hair and makeup tho – it ages her immensely.

  • CassandraMortmain

She’s a few days early for Halloween. I’m getting a real Frankenstein vibe from this – all that heavily stitched leather. And I would totally love that, a week before Halloween, if she was selling it, but she’s not. This may be the worst I’ve ever seen her look. Her pissed off expression is bringing the whole look down.

  • revlisacat

    OMG, it’s Ben-hur (or Ben-HER)! Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

  • nannypoo

Hilarious. I hate everything about this.

  • Channeling “Gladiator”, I see.

  • cocohall

She is wearing this too close to Halloween – she looks like she is in costume for Game of Thrones or going to Comic Con.

  • girliecue

Everything from head to toe would look from fine to great on anyone who is not Michelle Williams.

  • NJCathi

    I want those boots.

    • HarleyB Lady of Yorkshire

      Tug of war ensues

  • beckly

Well I’ve learned something. Black ankle boots don’t actually go with everything. Imagine how good it would feel getting out of that heavy sticky dress.

  • LadyVimes

I’m here for all of it. Also LADY DOES NOT AGE. DAMN.

  • KA Popovic

    LOVE this. Just…not on her.

  • Kim Elmore

    what’s with the ‘tude??

  • Sumatra

The tinsel makes it look like a black leather christmas tree.

  • SophieCollier

Does she not look pissed as hell though?

  • Nancy Arseneault-Heald

    Joan of Arc drag.

  • Fuschsiaforever

    Also a shield!
