  • Noah

She’s making this work way better than it should.

    • MaggieMae

Emmy is cute as a button even in an ugly dress.

  • numenah

Girl, this is not your color. Send the dress to Kate Mara.

  • bananafish

My instinct is to not like this, but, after a second glance, the only thing not really working for me is the makeup, which somehow makes her look ill. or maybe she just can’t work that color.

    • AlisonHendryx

      It’s the makeup. I think?

    • I think she needs to find a new make-up artist. Because that’s a pretty common problem for her.

    • anonylind

It’s generally not a great color for brunettes, but I think she’s working it. It certainly brings out her lovely brown eyes.

    • Carly Clement

I think it is the blush and eye colour that is the big issue – they are too orangy! But I agree that she is making the brown work better than expected

  • maygoon

    Gingerbread bondage fairy

    • Gatita

      But in a good way!

  • Anna

I think I like it? Maybe if the dress were in a jewel tone, like a teal, I’d like it a lot more.

Bonus points, though, for wearing it in late October instead of the middle of August and no sternum. Love the pumps.

    • I think the shoes and the dress need to switch colors.

    • myandyleigh

That’s a lot of leather, even for October. I’d spontaneously combust and then melt away into an oily stain. I keep thinking about the Friends episode with Ross and the leather pants.

      Ditto on the pumps.

      • Anna

Oh, same here. I think celebrities must either have genetically fewer sweat glands somehow, or they find ways to reduce/eliminate them.

“The lotion and the powder have made a paste!!!”

  • lost in the stars

    Very Westeros.

    • higgledypiggledy

I got GOT, too! Except there should be a boiled wool hooded cape, knee boots, and a fearsome weapon (sword? mace?) to complete the look.

      • lost in the stars

        Yara Greyjoy goes clubbing?

        • smayper

      • livesarah

Yes, there’s no excuse for this dress unless there is sword fighting involved.

    • thecripplecricket

I totally can see this, but my first thought was “omg she needs a little aviator cap done up with some sort of goggles/trinkets and some semi-victorian-type foofoo and she’s basically modern-victorian steampunk on the RC!”

  • semigeekgirl

It would have been a yes from me if not for the awful consumptive eye makeup. When will that trend die already?

  • EZ Pass

I never know what shoes to wear with a leather dress and I’m not sure these work. I wish they were either black or an actual color…

  • Beardslee

Thank goodness for seasonally appropriate clothing! The bare legs don’t go, though – I think tights of some kind would go better with such a heavy dress.

    • DesertDweller79

It isn’t seasonally appropriate for Los Angeles. She must have been boiling hot in it. I am feeling sweaty just looking at her.

  • gotgreyhound

It’s got a Renaissance Faire vibe to it. I wish she had done a little more with her hair.

  • Wink

She doesn’t seem edgy enough for this dress. Send it to Kristen Stewart or Jada Pinkett Smith.

  • It’s a leather dress. A brown leather dress. But I like it? I think her hair is a little weird, the volume at the top makes her head look weirdly shaped. But overall, it’s not horrid?

  • colleenjanel

She’s looking a little like a plastic action figure.

  • Shannyn Marie

I’ve heard she doesn’t use a stylist. Her instincts are good.

    • MilaXX

I call BS on every actress who says that. Who is negotiating with design houses to get these frocks? I think what happens is they exercise more control that the actresses that simply wear whatever the stylist gives them.

      • Shannyn Marie

Call BS is you need to but it’s possible she actually does most of her own styling. I’ve heard that she does from many sources for years. What would be the point in lying when she would eventually get called on it?

        • MilaXX

I’m not saying she doesn’t pick her own outfits, I’m saying she has help. I’d best most of these actresses who say they do their own styling do.

  • MaryMitch

Those shoes make my whole body ache. They look like torture devices from the Inquisition.

    • Sophie

I don’t think my foot can bend the way hers does in the sixth picture. But the shoe colour is very pretty!

      • quiltrx

I was just looking at that myself, and wondering if my foot is missing a joint or something!

    • PeaceBang

Yes, I was feeling sympathetic pain, too.

    • Eliza

How does she keep them on her feet with so much room in the heel?

    • littlemac8

In that close up of her feet her ankle bone looks like it’s in the wrong place! That’s how ridiculous that heel height is!!

    • DesertDweller79

That was the first thing I noticed!! NO! How is she even standing in those? Louboutin, pumps should not put your feet in the position of being en pointe!!

  • Jangle57

I like the dress but hate that color on her – or maybe I just hate the color of the dress period. Her makeup doesn’t help and I just realized she’s giving off a Joan Crawford vibe – no more wooden hangers! or brown leather dresses for that matter.

  • Jacob Daniel

I’m getting aviatrix vibes from the dress (I have no idea why) but I am definitely a fan. I’m not sure if this is the color for her, but I am still totally on board. FREAKING LOVE the shoes!

  • She’s trying very hard. Almost.

I have a dumb question since I never wear heels much higher than 1 1/2″ but do really high heels not allow the back of your heel hit the back of the shoe? It seems like more often than not in photos, shoes either are too big for the person wearing them or high heels make your foot slip down so much you don’t fill out the shoe.

    • Gatita

Really high heels will make your foot slip forward but it’s easily solved with an insole. I’m not sure why ladystars don’t seem to use them.

    • Gatto Nero

If they fit properly, that shouldn’t happen.

  • Gatita

I don’t like the color but the silhouette is working like gangbusters on her.

  • Kimmy

The whole look feels unfinished. Messy hair, under-done makeup etc. It is incredibly unflattering to her chest area.

  • Gatto Nero

This has more visual interest, with the laser cuts, than most leather dresses — but like all leather dresses, it isn’t kind to the wearer’s breasts.
The color isn’t working for her, and the shoes are too big and don’t go with the overall look.
ETA: The makeup isn’t working either. She needs a do-over.

    • kimmeister

I’m glad the lasered parts on the bodice and skirt appear to be lined.

  • Beto

I don’t know. She’s kinda working it. The pumps are beautiful though I’m pretty sure they’re a torture to wear them. Don’t like her lipstick.

  • graziella

I guess I just don’t like leather dresses -even this one- unless you’re a cow girl. Too stiff, too sweaty, not soft to touch on inside or out. But killer Dorothy colored pumps!

    • halleygee

I was going to say the same thing… I wasn’t sure why but you’re exactly right about the cow girl. Just needs the hat and boots and ready for Halloween.

  • GoAwayKardash

Stunning! Chic and modern. She looks gorgeous and she knows it!

  • I love those shoes. The dress is sort of dieselpunk but I don’t much like it.

  • steph

While the shoes are fabulous, not with this dress.
I see a knee high, almond toe boot, with some tights to make this work.
Not crazy about the hair and lipstick feels too dark to me.

  • MilaXX

I like those shoes but I don’t think they go with the dress. A leather dress like that needs tights. The bare legs look odd here.

    • AnnaFalacksis

  • Imasewsure

I actually love this look on her for this venue (which seems to be ten different venues judging from the huge range of styles showing up at this “Style” event). It’s a weird dress but it’s edgy and different

  • Freynika

I just can’t with leather dresses, especially brown ones. Love the shoes, though.

  • glanor mandy

I don’t think the shoes go with the dress. The color of the dress is not the best.

  • Janet B

This might be one of the least ugly leather dresses I’ve seen here. Are all leather tops and dresses made for (nearly) flat chested women?

  • DeniseSchipani

I can’t with the leather dresses. They all look like someone pulled apart an ottoman and put their craft skills to work.

  • 2ranma75

THE SHOES!!! GORGEOUS. I like the the dress actually. But I feel like the clutch is not right at all. Ok, it has little dots and diamond shape stuff.. but meh… that metal is fugly.

  • Qitkat

I love the idea of this dress more than the execution. Maybe if it was in other than a drab brown, something with color might be more flattering here on Emmy. There’s also something about the neckline that bugs.

  • Diane

Call me cuckoo but I like this.

  • crash1212

Never thought I would say this…but I love, love, love a brown leather dress. Whodathunkit? This fits like a glove and is very flowy as opposed to how stiff some of the leather dresses other are sporting. I love the shoes. LOVE. And that color was inspired for this dress. This is a win for me…and her.

  • What’s going on with the face? Wish the shoes fit. Skipping the whole middle part because…. eep.

  • Emmy Rossum is one of my favorites and she’s so beautiful, but, oooof that dress is horrendous and her makeup looks sickly.

  • marlie

I kind of love this. The dress is interesting, and while I don’t normally like this color, it doesn’t bother me on her. And I LOVE the shoes. Shame they don’t fit better. I also like the color of her lipstick, but there’s something a little wonky with her hair.

  • OrangeChia

I’d much rather see this dress in a gray leather. LOVE the shoes.

  • anotherkate

Oh, no. No thank you, honey.

She can pull off brown, and she can pull off leather, but the two together somehow feel really heavy and off-brand for her. She can handle baby-edge, but overall she’s a cute little thing built for cute little looks. I think I might’ve forgiven it if the sleeves were short, though.

  • Eric Stott

A little too Pocahontas for me

  • BetteDavisFan

How I love her makeup! Beautiful on such a beautiful woman. I want that lip color! And blush. Oh hell, someone give her whole makeup palette so I can imitate it. We have similar coloring, only I have blue eyes.

  • PeaceBang

From far(ther) away, I actually love the color scheme. Up close, though, the make-up becomes sickly. Weird.

  • CatWalk*Queen*

Love the dress, hate the hair & shoes.

  • frosty dufour

That’s a lotta leathuh. Love it and that she put color on her lips. Cute!

  • quiltrx

Go ahead and hand over that clutch!
I just love Emmy, she’s beautiful and has a cool personal style. This is an interesting dress, but it looks cheaper the closer the shots get.
I’m very anti-doo-doo-brown so I’m not sure if I just don’t like the color or I think it’s bad for her personally.
Her MUA makes some odd choices sometimes, particularly in lipstick. This lip is better than usual but something is still off.

  • rkdgal

Right dress, WRONG color. And the lipstick makes that plain as day.

  • Floryan678

I NEED those shoes in my life. I’m still not sure if I like the rest.

  • Kaonashi

Cut outs done right. I like everything about this look.

  • PastryGoddess

She finally gets her lip color right and wears it with the wrong dress. Those shoes are amazing, with another dress.

  • RubenKitT

    mmmmmmm… chocolate

  • marcia miller

Hate the lip color, and the shoe color with this dress. But I do like the “warrior” feel of the dress – looks good on her.

  • Hoffenreffer

    Oh no no no.

  • sk8tfan

I might buy that dress at Goodwill to use it for a beach bonfire. Yet somehow she looks great in it. Must be her hidden superpower.

  • antonialee

No, no, no, she’s not “edgy” enough to pull this off.

  • This is the best leather dress I’ve seen in a long while. I like it.

  • Winterlight

I don’t think I’d like it on most people, but Emmy is rocking it like a rocking chair.
