We thought we liked this dress when we could only see the top half of it. Once she started posing for pictures and we got the full effect, our opinion did a 180. But perhaps we’re looking at this the wrong way. After all, our initial impression was that she was serving up some sort of warrior chic thing, which is why we were inclined to love it. But once we got the panties and the really awkward-looking skirt, we had a hard time holding onto the “warrior” thing. But hey, who’s to say warriors don’t need to air their panties out now and then? Maybe we shouldn’t be so limiting. This is why we’re leaving the final call up to you. Sometimes we can’t trust ourselves when we’ve looked at so many gowns our eyes start crossing. Maybe this is fierce and we just don’t see it.

Kerry Washington’s Panty Knight Dress:

IN or OUT?

We can all agree that the matchy silver shoes are bad, right?

    Out. it’s unbalanced

  • picturo

She’s in armor and she’s rocking it. IN!

  • KA Popovic

Oh, it hurts so much to say this but I’m gonna go with out; it’s a prairie dress in chain mail.

    • LiliLynch

LOL when I saw the back I had a flashback to the prairie dresses I had as a teenager, but the ruffles were on the front! Which would make this a see-through, backwards prairie dress in chain mail – oh my!

    • Cynica

A prairie dress swimsuit cover-up in chain mail. Oy.

    • fierce gone dowdy

  • Coleen

Out. Needed to be either floor length or a mini. That length is awk.

  • All I could think of watching her on the red carpet was that it was 4000 degrees in LA and she must have been dying. And one should never sacrifice one’s life for a dress so unattractive. OUT

    • Enid O’Reilly

She actually talked about how cool it was on the red carpet because it’s completely mesh.

      • KLeigh

I was originally on side OUT for it being a fancy swimsuit cover but I applaud the strategy with it being one million billion degrees.

  • Shoelover1512

So out. I was on board until the waist.

  • Mercy

The length is wrong and it is transparent! When will this stop.

  • Aleks

Out. I agree with you – I loves it when I saw only the top half also. It looks like a dress from the Project Runway Christmas decoration unconventional challenge. The back appliques look silly and the bottom looks heavy and it’s unnecessarily sheer and oh dear it’s bad.

  • Genevievia

I say IN. She looks radiant and though the dress is slightly awkward, she’s working it. Really wish the undies weren’t showing though.

  • The Versatile Chef

Out. Looks like it’s made of soda can pop-top tabs.

    • judybrowni

Ah, I remember that hideous fashion from the 70s!

  • Karen B

I thought she looked great *on camera*, but here, in stills… she’s wearing She-Ra’s bathing suit cover-up.

  • Gatita

That ass apron is an abomination. OUT.

  • Nancer

So… anyone remember Tina Turner’s outfit in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome? Because that is the first thing I thought of when I saw this. So, yes, it reads female warrior, but not in a good way.

    • Aunty Entity chic!

    • random_poster

Yes, and on Tina in costume it’s an in. Kerry is just not fierce enough to pull it off.

  • CozyCat

Out. This is a middle ranked entry in the Tin Foil Unconventional Materials Challenge on project runway.

  • Peri7473

out for me. But what color shoes would be better?

    • makeityourself

My solution is to keep the shoes and ditch the dress. Much easier.

  • Bethany Mavronicles

OUT. Could have been supa fierce but it is too fussy/saggy and her hair makes zero sense.

  • Qitkat

Initially I liked this when seen from the waist up, but I’m of the same mind as you, it becomes the most fanciful Christmas tree skirt ever, complete with the slit. It looks even worse walking. Have to say Neigh.

  • Grumpy Girl

OUT. The dress is innately bad, and the styling makes it worse. She can look so glamorous, but this is more metal working project gone awry.

The hair looks droopy, she needs a more defined lip, the silver is not the best color for her skin tone, her manicure is too neutral, sheer is evil, and the shoes are bad.

    • Sophie

I like the hair, but I agree on all the rest. Out.

  • Out. The bottom thingies ruin the flow of the dress. I would love it as warrior chic, panties and all, if it weren’t for that part of the dress.

    • Rhonda Shore

That’s the problem, also the material used on the bottom and shoulder epaulets has a cheap quality to it. OUT, even with Kerry being as fierce as she is.

  • disqus_IUmRAIX6g7

She’s fierce. The dress is not. It looks too heavy which is kind of impressive given that it’s also see through. The V-shape on the back feels awkward to me. It seems like everything inside it should just be skin. It’s like that V and the bottom of the skirt are trying to relate to each other so they don’t seem random, which I appreciate, but I’d prefer neither of them be there at all except that doesn’t leave much of a dress either.

    • formerlyAnon

“It looks too heavy which is kind of impressive given that it’s also see through”

      Excellent summing up.

  • mjude

  • poggi

I don’t love the length or the swing of teh skirt. I wish it cut off as a mini. But still, I will in, but more because Kerry is pulling it off. I am not sure it would be an in on anyone else.

  • luludexter

out – the back is ridiculous, the skirt is awkward, and the panties are a deal breaker.

  • Gatto Nero

    Way, way out.

  • minnye

Aside from the silhouette and the metallic, which she is totally rocking, the dress has no redeeming features for me… sorry Kerry, your hair & MU are perfect but this look is OUT.

  • Lorelei_D

OUT! But I love her hair.

  • OUT – without the epaulets, wing/hood bits, too-high split and visible undies it might be a 30s-ish win.

    • GillianHolroyd

Yes, I am getting an updated 1930s silhouette feel here with shoulder detail from the 40s and pinned up hair from the 20s so it’s a bit of a mix. I don’t hate it.

  • In_Stitches

My knee jerk reaction was ‘what the hell are you thinking? It’s fabulous, how dare you question it’, but the more I look at it, the more problematic it becomes. That fabric actually looks fairly cheap and costume-y up close and the see-through skirt just doesn’t make sense for the look. …OUT.

  • empath

Out. I’m having a contact dermatitis flare just looking at it. She needs a better fit in the waist and torso and a lining. Also, her gorgeous face looks washed out, and her hair belongs to the warrior queen who lost the battle.

  • Lindsey Romain

    In. I love this.

  • Sage Andersen

In–She looks gorgeous, and it looked great on TV. I loved the color on her! I will say, though, that seeing the transparency in these photos makes me like it a little less.

  • Wink

OUT. Too many design elements competing for attention.

  • redhead with tattoos

I thought she looked FABULOUS and I love the length. Also, I did not notice the panties/lining/etc at all on screen; it didn’t show for me until photos.

Don’t care. Too fab. I vote IN!

  • Tracy_Flick

Leaving aside the success/failure of the sheerness and warrior aspects, the neckline is too broad and deep, and the waistline is all weirdly puckered. In other words, OUT just because it doesn’t fit.

  • Truthiness2U

OUT! I had the exact same reaction. Loved the top half, was rolling my eyes by the sheer/black granny panties, and wanting to burn it by that gold, eyelet lace bottom, crap.

  • Janet B

    Sheer? OUT!

  • GemFemme

In, despite the sheer. It’s an interesting and unique look.

  • Tlazolteotl

I like it from bust to hip. The schmatta everywhere else ruins it. OUT

  • Gail

The “dress” looks like a bad idea from the 80’s … Out.

  • KendraMR

OUT, but her hair and makeup look good.

  • Claudia Fernandes

i would like to like this, but is an out

  • paginatrix

    Kerry = fierce
    Dress = not fierce

  • DeniseSchipani

Oh, no no no. Out. Heavy AND sheer is too much. Pretty face though.

  • Tinsel. Out.

  • Lisa Roberts

OUT – Too busy – and the back looks much worse than the front with that stupid ruffle thing on it.

  • Jessica Freeman

OUT because the see-through underwear situation was the most unnecessary part of this overwrought design.

  • Eva_baby

IN. I love this look on her.

  • Quin

IN> Its in totally. Its so mixed – its takes you over the edge to doubt but let it walk you back over to in. Where it deserves to be.

  • Scot Meacham Wood

sadly – I’m getting a strong 1970’s ‘pop-top’ crafting project vibe . . . and it’s clearly bumming my high on this dress.

  • KittieLynnNYC

Agree with you 100%, TLo. Underpants-exposing chain mail dresses are definitely OUT.

  • Oh Goody Goody

I liked “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” – this is an Auntie Entity rules Bartertown IN.

  • The Typing Dead

I really wish this wasn’t “sheer.” If it wasn’t I’d say IN. As is, I’d say OUT.

  • Gerry Coleman

    So OUT. Ye gods!

  • megohd

In. I thought she looked great in the moment and (IMO) that’s what it’s about. I also just love that it’s a little something different.

  • susan6

Out. It’s too fussy. I mean, the shoulder things, and the swag of lace in the back (huh…they’re actually part of one feature which should be taken off) and the lacey skirt part and the gold lace at the end and the unflattering slit and the fact that it’s see through. And the length is awkward.
I’m a sucker for metallics and chain mail-looking things, but this is chain mail that mated with a bunch of ugly doilies. Not good.

  • Leah

you guys! what if this wasn’t slightly sheer!?!? WHAT IF?!?

    • semigeekgirl

Still awful. Check out that back view again.

  • JP

I was fine until I got to the visible underpants. Out, out, out!

  • Capt. Renault

Out. No-one should have disco ball lighting on their face outdoors.

  • NBG

Out. Project Runway Supermarket Challenge, sponsored by Reynolds Wrap.

  • Kate Andrews

Out, out, out! I hate the tacked-on skirt. Looks SO heavy, too.

  • Rachel Goldberg

Someone needs to “handle” her stylist, by which i mean shove stylist in trunk of car and dump her at FIRED.

  • BobStPaul

This was out before I even realized it was semi-transparent.

  • Out. Her hair is a mess and the dress looks way too heavy.

  • DyanSwan

So out it was never in.

  • rumsey

What, really, is the difference between this dress and a really fancy beach coverup? If she were in a bikini and put this on to go get some fried clams, it would be fabulous, if impossible to imagine. Yet the same sheerness and peeking panty verge on vulgar a few hours later.

  • Belle239

Out. She deserves better than this.

  • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

Out and girl fire your hair gay, that look is tragic.

  • SuzyQuzey

OUT WITH THE TRASH. And that includes Klum’s dress, too.

  • Ruby_Red

Out. Don’t need to see the underwear. If it had been lined, awesome.

  • Shannyn Marie

As sheers go the panty show is pretty tame, so that’s not problematic to me, but it looks overstyled and I swear it looks like chain-mail. She looks pretty as usual and is always willing to take a risk. I say in for having the nerve to wear it and trying to work it

  • darnray

She was working it, so I liked it on her in motion. Then I saw the back–no. I am not into the black panty look underneath. Either wear it with nothing, or line the whole thing. This whole trend of wearing panties underneath these sheer dresses is so overdone!

  • itchy pan-scourer with Christmas tinsel…. nope, out!

  • IamstillAnonymous

Here’s my new rule from this day forward: If I can see your underwear–or lack thereof–it’s OUT. It’s past time to take out the trash, Folks.

  • S-k-s

Out. Tired of seeing panties on the red carpet.

  • Trixie A. Cooper

I don’t want to see anyone’s panties. OUT.

  • Ashleigh

Why is “see-thru” the norm now? I don’t want to/need to see that!

  • Steve Ek

The fashion press is falling all over itself praising this one. I think she looks like she took the pole out of an aluminum Christmas tree, and threw it on with some extra tinsel for good measure. OUT.

  • Mary from Boston

Out. And she looks so uncomfortable in it, I think she dislikes it too

  • I can see her underwear through the chain mail.

  • Tanya Wade

    Silver Metal Lover. IN!

  • Diane

I was OUT then I thought maybe IN then i saw the underwear then I went full on OUT

  • teensmom99

IN but in a “Don’t try this at home” and “Kerry and only Kerry” and “it was kind of neat to see her wearing something different but still Gladiator” kind of way.

  • smh4748

Out. As has been said so many times in the past year, this would be improved significantly if it were lined. And, as has also been said many times, this length is no one’s friend. So we have here a concept that could have worked, but it fell victim to the need to incorporate two bad but ubiquitous trends that do not serve it in any way.

  • SewingSiren

I was getting a Sugar Kane vibe, which was cute, until I saw the visible pantie from the back view. Not good.

  • melanie0866

OUT. The back just reminds me way too much of a drill team uniform.

  • ctopine

OUT. She looks like she’s ready to joust.

  • alexa11221

It’s a bit too mumsy to be fierce. Out.

  • rumcg66

Out. I was on the fence even before I saw the visible underwear. Now it’s a definite out.

  • Jen P.

OUT. This is horrible. I hate her hair like that. Also, I am cranky and undercaffeinated.

  • ViralSci

  • Jenn

In. I think she looks fabulous.

  • jonnyf8

Kelly really nailed the unconventional materials challenge didn’t she. What? Marc Jacobs, Emmys? Whoops wrong show.

  • semigeekgirl

Out out out. This is hiddy, especially from the back. And I usually like chainmaille dresses. Also, on top of all the wtf-ery, why that length? Why?

  • somebody blonde

Out. Visible underwear at the Emmy’s? Really?

  • KayEmWhy

  • 3boysful

I liked until I got to the panties. Can’t believe Kerry went for that look. If it had a lining and lost the epaulet-back ruffle, I would be on board.

  • GregoireNYC

So IN for me, especially seeing how it sparkled on stage. Reminded me of something Sophia Loren would have worn in the early 1980s. Not thrilled with all that extra fabric on the back but overall I think she looks stunning.

  • RoxieRider

In. The dress is sort of weird, but she looks interesting, fierce, and beautiful.

  • Out. Give Tina Turner her dress back.

  • roxlet

  • FuhUgh

Out. Chain mail plus Christmas tinsel does not easily add up to an event dress (unless that event is the holiday jousting tournament)

  • marlie

In. The dress itself has a couple elements too many, but I really like the warrior goddess vibe to it. And I like her hair and makeup (thought they’re pretty subdued for her).

  • Daisy Walker

    Jiffy Pop dress. OUT!

  • fananafanafophalec

Out on fit and length alone. Fix that oddly persistent wrinkle across her crotch and the bizarrely tailored bodice (seriously, it’s like it’s designed to look saggy. why would you make the bust cut downwards so sharply?), make it just floor length, and make it opaque, and MAYBE then we can talk.

  • ewa_pl

OUT. Way too busy. That piece on the back is neither here nor there.

  • Pennymac

If I can look at it from afar, like she was on stage last night, and also be allowed to squint ,obscuring the holy grail panties, this is IN.
If I have to look at the up close pictures with my eyes wide open, this is an out.

  • bayusc

Out. Way too much going on. Start by removing the shoulder embellishments.

  • Out – the skirt, of course. And it looks really heavy and sharp, like the way you can cut yourself on crinkled up aluminum foil.

  • ReallyNow

Out. It’s just bad and the matchy shoes make it that much worse.

  • Shawn EH

Love the shoes! Glad she’s keeping cool on the RC. But, OUT, dress is a mess.

  • belfebe

Out. I don’t like the fit, and it is rather awkward.

  • sugarkane105

Are panties a prerequisite now? I am so tired of the ass cheek.

  • anneshirley

Out. I thought it looked really promising in the thumbnails, I like the color and the shape. But NO to the visible panties and cheap-looking fabric and too much going on in general.

  • Little_Olive

Not warrior enough, not peacock enough.

  • stellamaris73

Out. The bottom half completely overwhelms her small figure, and there are so many design elements that the eye hardly knows where to settle. Unfortunately my eye went to the visible knickers. So unflattering.

  • Chloe Denmark

I believe I wondered why she was wearing a less buxomed Dolly Parton dress from 1986 when I saw this last night.

  • CelandineM

WTF Kerry Washington, why do you make me give you an OUT. Sheer tinfoil mesh dress with Michaels clearance bin Christmas decorations tracked on, I seriously question your taste level.

  • Sumatra

Does nothing for her. The fit is awful, or maybe it is just the material that bags along the sides. Thumbs down.

  • spirit52

it could’ve been IN if it were just a mini dress and that crap at the shoulders and back were eliminated.

  • sas318

Awful, awful, awful. Shoulder pads, bottom half of dress a different shimmer than the rest of it, odd back fluttery fabric.

  • Denise Rambo

SO far out it can’t even SEE the entrance!

  • StrandedFashionista

I’m sadly going to say OUT, especially since there were many other gowns that Kerry would have looked beautiful in from the Spring 2016 collection.

  • TheDivineMissAnn

Out. No self respecting warrior “chic” would let the granny panties show.

  • Jangle57

I was ok with it except for the length but now that I’m seeing the back of it and realizing that slit is there, I find myself shuddering in a bad way OUT

  • KT

Out. I’m in the same boat as you – loved it initially, but it’s a total scrolldown fug. This would have looked so much better if it were a long, slinky gown comprised of the chain mail material, instead of this unresolved, cheap-looking, unconventional materials-esque skirt.

  • ejsesqueer

As we’ve discussed, lady stars sometimes come dressed as the prize (gold foil) or in something that is evocative of their role. She’s serving up pure gladiator, and it’s definitely an IN for me.

  • boweryboy

Her face is an IN as always, but this is an OUT. An O to the U to the T out. She would’ve been better served if she had worn a black leotard and called it a day.

  • *TeaCup*

Out, maybe if it was floor-length i would like it, i never have cared for any of MJ’s work, he’s so over-rated IMHO. . .

  • stagmania

    Out. The skirt ruins it.

  • ScarlettHarlot

    Out out out.

  • BayTampaBay

Out!!! The dress is over-designed panties showing awful and the shoes are two sizes too big!

  • Bozhi

Out. It’s ugly and, even worse, it’s not flattering.

  • numenah

  • ThaliaMenninger

Out. Chain mail flamenco dancer should never be a thing.

    • DyanSwan

  • kelskh

The heavy bottom is not flattering to her bottom at all.

I’m starting to think this whole sheer trend is just designers being lazy. No need to do the extra work of adding a lining when you can convince everything to just have their underwear on display at all times.

  • Imasewsure

It’s in as long as she agrees to walk backwards only… the front is HIDEOUS and the shoes are too much

  • Wendi126

Out on her. Out on anyone

  • DesertDweller79

Out. The dress is trying to be fierce enough, but it is failing. It ends up being ugly. The skirt is ugly and the back of the dress is ugly.

And when will this sheer insanity end! Please Fashion industry, stop the madness!

  • Sara Morton

I loved this…it doesn’t look as good in pictures but when she was on the carpet being interviewed by E the way the bottom of the skirt moved was really pretty and different. If I had just seen the still I would be out. I like the shoes too.

  • poorellensmith

A very uneasy IN, but only because her hair isn’t parted in the middle and slicked back, which always makes her head look so weirdly oblong. Her head here is doing the heavy lifting.

  • Pammer

Out. It didn’t look bad on video, moving. But these stills are just horrific. She is a tiny person and in these shots her ass looks huge.

  • Huy

Total IN. Red carpet needs this.

  • Aunt Kiki

  • Tea

    “We don’t need another hero!”
Getting serious Thunderdome vibes, and not in a good way.

  • sarcasmfont

OUT – if it was lined and we couldn’t see the undies, I’d say it was in, because it’s definitely not the worst look from the red carpet last night and she’s pretty much rockin’ it.

  • Stuart Miller

OUT–fiercely horrible and can we stop with showing off our panties?

  • Paula Pertile

Not fierce. I just came from Michael’s, and pretty sure I saw all of this there.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

They have the tinsel out this early?

      • Paula Pertile

OK, I may have exaggerated yo make my point. I only made it as far as the yarn aisle. But it wouldn’t surprise me if they did (Fall has exploded in there at the moment.)

  • LilyVanessi

Out. It looks like the bottom is made from those cheap disposable tin ashtrays.

  • Snailstsichr

OMG – OUT! Ugh, visible panties and the shoes don’t look like they fit.

  • heartbot

I love the color on her and now desperately want to see her in something where she dons chain mail and wields a sword. I’m not crazy about the length, though, and there’s a little too much going on, especially that weird thing in the back. If it were just floor length chain mail with a little shoulder detailing, I think I’d love it.

  • In! But I think that vote is mostly because I was mesmerized by the sparkle as she presented. If I hadn’t seen her present, I’d be saying “Out.”

  • MartyBellerMask

    Nope. Nopenopenope.

  • OrangeChia

  • shayna61

  • EarlyXer

OUT. Too much going on. The eye has nowhere to rest. And the fit is not good.

  • OUT. Warriors don’t wear panties. They especially don’t wear afghan dust ruffles.

  • Abbey Rogue

If it were lined and longer, it would be an in.

But alas, it is neither, so OUT.

  • prisma

In for the top half. Out for the bottom.

  • Nika E

    Out. It’s fugly.

  • Tatiana Luján

  • prettybigkitty

Only sumo wrestlers should be allowed to fight in their undies. All other warriors must wear proper outerwear over their undies (hence the name). Out.

  • jif

    Mermaid housewife.

  • mdcoon127

Out. Not great and not flattering.

  • Zippypie

    Ew. NO

  • Sara-Elizabeth Hyre

    OUT…ice dancer dress.

  • Roger A. Sneed

It does nothing for her. OUT.

  • VCR1

I totally understand about the see through skirt, and I would’ve lined it, but I still love the dress on Kerry Washington. I think she looks great. It’s an In for me.

  • butterflysunita

Marginal IN. The dress looks like crumpled tin foil but I can’t say she looks bad.

  • Dea

It looks like it started out a with a macrame Christmas ornament theme, but then someone got sick of the project and sewed on Granny’s table runner. It’s amazing that she almost pulls it off, but no.

  • Kbear

OUT. Craft project. Trying to make tinsel look girly.

  • michelle.

Out. Maybe I would have liked it if it was floor length.

  • DrMomLovesLife

I’m getting ‘long-sleeved swimsuit with a semi-sheer pareo’ realness here. OUT. Girl, if Tina Turner couldn’t pull this off, just don’t try.

  • Erica Woods Tucker

The panties showing is what blew it. And I’m not feeling the hair.

  • Miyanda Nehwati

OUT! This is the thumbnail I’ve been waiting for, when it showed up on the timeline I worried about that vpl and whatever is going on with the skirt.

And up close it’s not a success although silver is great on her and her face is gawjus despite the heat.

  • Danielle West

Out. The embellishments look too heavy and I’m sick to death of the panties/sheers skirts.

  • Freynika

Burlesque Flapper Robot from the Future. OUT.

  • Beto

    Josphine Baker is that you?

  • Out. Awkward length and I didn’t realize the visible panties were a thing till the last photo. Blech.

  • Susan Velazquez

    I…I like it. IN.

  • Sir Louie

This dress IS the kitchen sink. It’s shiny, it has a V overlay, a bit of gathering at the hip, it’s transparent and it has Norma Desmond shoulders. It’s like a summer craft project undertaken by a bunch of teens prone to bedazzling, and humored along by their maiden aunt.

  • penguinmom

Linings are our friend. OUT. Love the back and kinda like the top, except there’s too much shoulder junk. But the skirt is a mess and seeing her undies through the sheerness of the skirt is just awful.

  • ankali

OUT. Would have been an in if it had been just the chainmail all the way down.

  • bouionice

Out. It’s heavy and ungraceful looking and the length is neither here nor there. The bottom half of the skirt looks like some old holiday decorations and I don’t see any reason for it to be see-through.

  • Austen Jane

Aww. I hate the visible panties but I feel bad seeing all of the “out” votes so I am going to give her an in. But I dislike the undies and the hairdo.

  • Kelly

Out. Chain mail with a dust ruffle. And visible granny panties.

  • Call me Bee

Reminds me of the dress that just won the (second) unconventional challenge on Project Runway. That dress was made of metal tubing. OUT.

  • samo_samo

In! I thought she looked beautiful. It looks like a very difficult dress to wear, but she made it look effortless and chic.

  • Out. Looks painful

  • 60Gal

    UGH, Out.

  • Jacob Daniel

OUT. I LOVE everything from the waist up: those shoulders, the back, the neckline…perfection, but that skirt is soooo atrocious!

  • rubyclaire

Out. It’s kinda cute in the front, but hangs like a curtain from her hips in the back in a most awkward way plus I don’t want to see her underwear. The shoes look okay to me.

  • Sushi

Out. Looks like she’s got a tail when she turns around.

  • FibonacciSequins

The shoulder/back embellishment makes it OUT for me.

  • Pterodactyl111

Out. The slit takes it straight to tacky town.

  • Lauren Lynch Fox

It looked better last night when she moved. In print, it looks weird. Out in print.

  • Carmen

Visible panties always hampers the warrior look, just saying.

  • Gabrielle Lee Gabauer

Out. The top half is nice with her hair and make-up, but never to visible black panties through a dress. Even Marc Jacobs ones. Just no.

  • largishbearishAtlish

oh dear…that moment when you say….oh crap…. THERE are the panties. oh god.

you simply can’t un-see it. I was thinking ‘bad metallic flapper’…then I saw the panties.

Out. (and I still can’t unsee the panties)

  • conniemd

    Out. Overwrought.

  • NJCathi

Out. She would have looked better in the silver frock from last week’s Project Runway.

  • AmeliaEve

OUT. The top half is OK and even flattering for her. But it takes a special genius to cut a dress for this little slip of a thing and make her butt like a Kardashian.

  • marcia miller

OUT. Top half is great, if you remove the external shoulder pads. But the bottom makes it look like a cheesy ice skating costume.

  • Pollynation

Definitely OUT. Not only the dress, but the hair too. Her face is lovely as usual, but the rest just isn’t worthy.

  • AutumnInNY

Absolutely OUT for all the reasons TLo and previous kittens have mentioned. Not flattering in any way.

  • LibKat

Out, out, out. Her waist and hips look wide and her boobs look shlumpy.

  • In. Kerry is rocking the dress, but the shoes need to GO.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Out.This looks heavy and awkward, and it includes the dreaded granny panties.

  • graziella

Game of Thrones meets Boardwalk Empire. Time warp.

    • with a little star wars thrown in. and a project runway challenge at the supermarket as well. why hasn’t aanyone made a tin foil dress yet?

  • raeb23

Out! the back is the worst.

  • alyce1213

Out. It’s kind of a mess.

  • Bowildhaze

This is disappointing – Like Kiernan Shipka, this is high profile event and Ms. Washington did not bring her A game. The dress looks choppy, shoulder pads with the V ruffle, in an 80s’ vibe along with the sheerness, black panty, sequined ruffle…. Felt like a dare.

  • Manimal

    No, ma’am.

  • Laura Livingston

So, she mugged a sister wife, Tina Turner and a Kardashian to get this? Too much work for so little pay-off. So, so far OUT.

  • ourabsentfriends

Even though she’s rocking it, the dress is an OUT – way too busy; esp. that sparkly sailor collar thing in the back.

  • Mary

Remember when visible panty LINES were considered gauche? The visible panty trend is especially bad her because the dress isn’t sheer enough that we know if the panties were intended to show or not (although I know they were intended to show…ugh). And besides, this dress has too many design elements. OUT!

  • Boobs Radley

Maybe she can rip off the ruffles at the bottom and use them as a weapon? Otherwise, out.

  • Alejandra

OUT. go either heavy or sheer, but not both!

  • Carly Clement

Out – it feels too casual for the Emmy’s… if this was wore to a VMA or the BET or even just the MTV music awards it would have fitted the occasion perfectly (of course she would have to change the shoe)

I feel the their are just one too many design elements

  • IN. Up until the slit, she’s killing it.

  • CommenterFormerlyKnownAsR

Ugh, no. Her attitude and general awesomeness almost distracted me sufficiently, but no. I can’t get behind this.

  • Sh-Sh-Sugartown

Out. COMPLETELY agree that it looked amazing from the waist up. From the waist down it’s tragic. Christ on a cracker, when will the peek-a-boo panty dress look go extinct already?

  • Bonnie Blue

Out, Gunne Sax chain mail dress.

  • Beverly-Jane Perry

    Out. Out. Out.

  • quiltrx

I’m going to give this a weak Out…because as much as I like some of the parts, the whole is just a really sparkly Frankendress.
Top front: serving Tina in Thunderdome realness and I am HERE FOR THAT.
Bottom: seems like Dorothy Dandridge would have liked it, so that seems okay.
    Top back: Gunne Sax.
Those parts do not a cohesive dress make.

  • I love her, but that dress is an OUT.

  • appliquer

  • DeTrop

  • Lexi

This was so bad. It looked even worse as she did the exaggerated strut as she came out to present an award. The high side slit made for a cheap/trashy look, and the funky butterfly like things in the back were ridiculous. It didn’t fit or hang well so the v-neck and 3/4 sleeves looked off. Hard to believe anyone thought this looked good.

  • LuluBI

Out. Tin foil epaulets. Also, is it now a law that you have to show your underwear on the RC?

  • HarleyB

    This way please…OUT!

  • Climgirl

That must have been nice to sit in all night.

  • MilaXX

ALL the way IN! I thought this look was amazing!

  • JynxTheCat

I made something like this in elementary school for mom for xmas. It made a nice jingling sound when you shook it. OUT

  • steph

Kerry you are killing me cause I love you, but this is an out.

  • MarissaLG

OUT. It’s heavy and tacky and doesn’t do much for her body. I don’t like the sheerness of it either. Sorry Kerry, it’s not for you girl.

  • majorbedhead

Gunne Sax chain mail. That’d be an out.

  • SherryN

Out. It looks like she has tin foil going down her back and tacked onto the skirt.

  • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Out. She looks like a human cheese grater.

    • *TeaCup*

  • formerlyAnon

In from the front view, out from the rear, so I call just baaaarely in. Reasoning: The money shot is her standing on stage facing forward, or seated facing forward so I’ll give it to her. But when the description starts : “sequined semi-transparent chain mail,” you gotta wonder what someone was thinking.

  • Tom Markiewicz

IN. I like that it’s different, and has a touch of edge to it too.

  • Eric Stott

Looks as if she put it on backwards

  • strangebride

Oooh OUT. This dress is SO fussy.

  • dschubba

    Weak IN
