The dress is as basic as it gets, but I see the backdrop says Harry Winston.
    “Dahhhhhling… frost yourself”

    • MRC210

The only thing worth coveting about this look is that necklace.

      • Karen B

It’s gorgeous, but with that simple a dress, I would’ve liked a larger statement piece.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

I was thinking that this dress could be a showcase for a great necklace.

    • Tracy M

It’s like she prepped the canvas, but forgot to paint.

    • Jacob Daniel

YASSSSS!!! Literally just named “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” as my guilty pleasure Rom-Com.

  • eandh99

so, Marion gets the pretty Diors, Dakota gets the dull Diors and Jennifer Lawrence gets the weird/ugly ones?

    • KateShouldBeWorking

Well, it’s a plan. Maybe not a good one but a plan nonetheless.

    • Kent Roby

Is JLaw still under contract with Dior, or has she made her escape? (in my twisted mind, the finale of Mockingjay will end with an epic battle between Katniss and Dior).

    • Gatto Nero

Marion has the charisma and grace to make even some of the awkward Diors work.
Not so the other two women.

    • ChiKat67

She’s so charisma-free that she makes pretty things dull.

  • Boooooring.

  • NMMagpie

  • Sam Pantha

This look screams Prom 2003…if it could muster up the energy before it falls asleep

    • I was thinking bat mitzvah 1997, so yeah. We have the same girl in mind wearing this dress.

    • Little_Olive

She looks so much like Mel Gibson’s daughter trying on prom dresses in “What Women Want”

    • lulukittie

Yeah, I was thinking Junior Prom myself.

    • Yup. I had the cheaper version of this bumming around in my closet in 2003.

    • CT14

Take the bows off the sides and turn them into spaghetti straps and you have my 1985 senior prom gown.

I wore it with black opera gloves with rhinestone down the sides.

      My hair was perfect.

  • Molly Flores

The dress is lovely, but boring. The shoes are attempting (and mostly failing) to make the look more interesting. But the hair is a total WTF.

    • Sam Pantha

THAT HAIR. I think someone tried curling their own hair and failed miserably.

      • Nancy Arseneault-Heald

Usually her hair is an unkemp hot mess. At least it looks this time like someone had some sort of a plan there, which failed. But still – it looks like someone at least touched her hair.

    • bladiblah

I like the shoes with the dress, but not with the hip bows – and yes, total agreement on the hair.

    • Cynica

I find it incredible that someone spent a no doubt not inconsiderable amount of time working to make her hair look like that.

    • CT14

Boring is the word that comes to mind when I see her.

The necklace is pretty and appropriate.

The dress, when I look at it alone, is not offensively dull. The bows on the sides make it trend young, but it’s not offensively twee.

Dakota just sucks the life out of the room.

  • kimmeister

I finally figured out who she reminds me of – Ashley Johnson (who was on Growing Pains a million years ago). I only figured it out because AJ is now on The Blindspot. I almost thought they could be cousins or something because of their last names.

Anyway, awkward length to pair with ankle strap shoes. Those are, however, pretty great shoes. And the waist looks like it’s sitting too low on her.

    • myandyleigh

I think she looks like the appropriately feminine version of her dad.

    • MartyBellerMask

      YES. Thank you. Phenom.

  • dress_up_doll

I guess all the embellishment they could muster was the two wee waist bows. Woohoo! What’s going on with her hair?

  • lunchcoma

Basic. Pretty. I think this is where the hair ends up really hurting her, because with the right styling, I think this could be a much better look.

  • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

  • She’s the prettiest girl at the bat mitzvah!

  • Pennymac

This outfit (yawn) is a very standard (yawn) LBD with hip bows. (yawn) But I think the lack of an updo hairstyle is a missed opportunity.
    Gosh, she makes me sleepy…..

    • MilaXX

      She’s human ambien.

  • Nancer

Her hair is such a letdown. I actually like the dress, but it really needed some styling to make it sing. And that head just isn’t doing it.

  • That’s so pretty! I am amazed Natalie Portman didn’t snag it first.

  • MilaXX

Her MUA is truly trying to help her hair. The slight color is a bit of an improvement but I think he just has thin, lanky hair. At least she’s not wearing collie dog hair weaves. The dress and shoes are fine, but the black is boring.

  • Hair ruined it for me.

  • Noah

Has she done her hair at any point in 2015?

  • GillianHolroyd

She wore her hair in a french twist a while ago and it would have been lovely with this dress.

  • marlie

The placement of the bows just below the seam of the waist is mildly irritating. I love the shoes, and her makeup looks good, but as usual, her hair sucks. Also, with such a simple dress, It would have been nice to see jewelry with a little more ‘oomph.’

  • htdp1

    Pretty…hair needs a re-think though.

  • manina

She is very pretty and has been looking better lately, also better dresses. She needs to work on the hair, though, the color is better than the dark brown she had when her movie first came out but the volume needs to be amped up a little.

  • nannypoo

The dress is simple and pretty but her hair is laughable.

  • Aunt Kiki

I know everyone complains about her clothes being so simple, but I fear that anything more interesting would make her completely disappear. She’s such a blank to me.

  • teensmom99

Needs bigger jewels or to pull up the bodice-weird for Harry Winston that it doesn’t show off the jewels better. But Dakota actually can get away with a lot. I like this on her, basic as it is. She can work this sort of thing.

  • Linda LaPaz

Pretty dress and the shoes are perfect with it. But it says Harry Winston on the step and repeat girl! Get thyself some serious bling for this! And do something with your hair. Maybe a sleek chignon?

  • SewingSiren

Sometimes basic is the very best choice.

    • Shawn EH

      Agreed, she looks great!

  • Little_Olive

For once her hair is combed and shimmering. Great make too, IMO -complements the color of her eyes nicely.
Dress too blah for a young girl.

  • Kaonashi

She’s always well put together (like here) but oh my goddess, she’s boring.

    • conniemd

She never seems to smile or have fun with her red carpet appearances. Everyone she looks like her 50 Shades young ingenue persona and it’s just boring. She needs a different look, starting with the hair.

  • Freynika

TLo gave this about as many words as it deserves.

  • Imasewsure

This is so pretty to me (and then there’s that head)….

  • alyce1213

The dress is pretty and classic, the perfect choice for a much bigger necklace.

  • Limp noodle.

  • unbornfawn

    OK dress. Hair is shitty.

  • boweryboy

She needs better, more high impact jewelry with a dress as basic as this.

  • GemFemme

A pretty if basic dress ruined by going to Target to buy socks hair.

  • Trixie A. Cooper

Her hair game needs work. Basic dress, but beautiful.

  • greymain

and PLEASE girl..what’s UP with that hair????

  • Jackie4g

I think she looks perfect. Love this!

  • AlisonHendryx

    not. enough. diamonds.

  • Jess Ballinger

Did they intentionally cover up her cupid’s bow? Her top lip looks like a bottom lip flipped upside down, and it’s weirding me out.

  • Glammie

Bodice needs to be pulled up an inch (I think it’s a little loose on her.) and the necklace could use a little color, but I actually really like this–she’s like her grandmother–has a bod made for wearing clothes beautifully. She doesn’t have to do much.

  • quiltrx

I still can-not with her hair.
I appreciate the slight Audrey-ness of the dress (I enjoy the bows)…but I feel like this needed a BHN (Big Honkin’ Necklace). I think the shoes were a good choice, a bit of visual interest.

    • DuBey2

Oh, I love those shoes, & pedicure with that length & fullness of skirt. Gorgeous.

  • ThaliaMenninger

Somebody needs to talk to her about hair and personality. Nothing wrong with the dress, but on her, it becomes part of the wallpaper.

    • Stuart Miller

Completely agree. It looks like..nothing. And hate the hair.

  • LadyLuck777

Love the make up and even the dress. I do think she could have worked a bolder necklace, but this one is inoffensive. I like the hair, but it does make her look like she is at a sweet 16 party.

  • gefeylich

Imagine this on Emily Blunt. Yesss…*there* we are.

Johnson can wear the most beautiful gowns imaginable, but she’s so colorless she renders her clothes completely uninteresting. Now imagine her mother and grandmother as young women wearing this gown, and… I blame Don Johnson’s genes.

  • numenah

Not much to complain about here. Makeup and hair color are outstanding. She just needs an updo and a sparkly bracelet.

  • steph

Only thing I’m not loving is her hair, it looks too beachy for this look.

  • queen b*tch

I’m sorry – “Black Silk Leather Satin dress”????

  • mrspeel2

Never heard of a “Black Silk Leather Satin Dress” before.

  • Shannyn Marie

Mz Dakota Johson, student teacher at Anytown High School was asked to chaperone the 9th grade fall Homecoming Dance.

  • Jo

the dress needs a personality and she ain’t it.

  • Truthiness2U

I like everything, but the hair. Cute dress, it fits her well, it’s flattering. The bows are a bit much, but it’s a quibble. The shoes are interesting. Could have gone more with the necklace, but that’s a nice one. Make-up is nice…but that hair does not match the classic look of everything else about this look.

  • Rebecca Clifford

Dress fits her like a dream but there needs to be a little color there to make it pop. And the hair kind of brings it down a bit.

  • Renaissance_Man_ATL

I say a simple LBD and some Harry Winston diamonds, how can you go wrong!?! I think she looks fabulous!

  • Pterodactyl111

The little bows are the only thing that make it interesting, but they look so dumb.
