Golden Globes 2015: The “Girls” Cast

Posted on January 12, 2015

Hit it, Girls girls.

We feel like there was very much a stepping-up effort being collectively made here. With its 4th season debuting last night (complete with something everyone wanted to see: Allison Williams getting butt-motorboated, and by “everyone” we mean Brian Williams)  and its 5th already confirmed for next year, Girls is no longer a hot shot upstart of a show, but something of a TV mainstay. If they keep this up, they’re going to have to rename it Women in a couple seasons.

She tried. The makeup’s good (kinda). The dress is bold and at least attempts to be grown up and sophisticated. But is that thing shaped terribly or what? And so overworked in that typically Posen way. Also, the shoes are awful.

She’s morphing into young Joan Rivers.

Again, we give her credit for trying. This looks pretty on the model, but it apparently couldn’t sustain the pretty through one limo ride. That bodice is just plain sad. And the colors really don’t do anything for her.

Allison Williams in Armani Privé

This may be our favorite of any dress or gown she’s ever worn. The boldness of the red looks amazing on her – and it manages to straddle that line between Hollywood Glam and the socialite looks she tends to favor. But styling is terribly unflattering. Her makeup is too harsh and that hair is way too severe. She should probably never slick and part her hair like that because she looks disturbingly like her father in heavy makeup.

We like the idea of it more than the execution. It could’ve been an interesting red carpet look if some richer fabrics had been chosen. These look like scraps. And that center-parted pin-straight ombre hair is like a summation of all the hair trends of the last 3 or 4 years on one head.

  • Jane Duff

did Leah forget to zip up her dress? (perhaps while checking if her nipple pasties were still attached)

    • cocohall

That was my exact first impression – it looked like she had just stepped into it and then forgotten to zip it up. Weird.

    • jeaniemarie

      She looks better naked…sigh.

    • grasshack

      Lena’s dress is such a BAD fit…

    • Susannah

She doesn’t wear nipple pasties, and you know it.

  • Joanna

Something’s up with Allison’s eyebrows – they look a little . . . overworked? As for the rest of them – no comment.

  • rag254

Cannot unsee Brian Williams face on Allison now.

Jemima still dresses like a RISD student. It’s spot on for current on campus trends.

    • Sarah

Right? I never thought of her resemblance that much, but now I’m simultaneously freaked out by picturing Brian Williams both in drag AND watching his kid do sexy stuff on TV. Yikes.

      • sparkleburnout

Like the ass eating scene. . .*runs screaming from the room*

    • Trent

Jemima is neither chic enough nor diva-enough (IMO) to wear that dress. Lupita could have pulled it off (although people might have dinged her for doing capes two years in a row).

  • Anna

The Girls cast would like to wish everyone Happy Valentine’s Day.

  • Lori

The Andrew Gn looks better on the model because the model’s top doesn’t not exactly match the model’s hair. I have no idea whose idea that color pairing on Zosia was, but their judgement is badly flawed.

Lena’s would have looked about 100% better if the dress fit her correctly. The torso looks like it’s about a foot wider than she is.

    Totally agree with T&Lo about Allison’s look—dress great, hair & make-up not.

Jemima Kirke took an idea that could have been kind of cool and different if executed properly and ended up just looking like a nutjob.

    • zmayhem

I’m probably overly generous, but I give Lena some extra points for looking at ease and like she’s genuinely having fun. In fact, I am granting her the exact same number of bonus points I’ve just docked Zosia for looking the complete opposite, despite wearing a dress that both fits and flatters.

      • Lori

I think there’s having fun and there’s totally deluded about how one looks, and that Lena is on the wrong side of the line. I actually cut Zosia more slack because she’s looking so much happier on the red carpet these days. I have no idea what changed, but she’s gone from walking rain cloud to actually smiling, and I appreciate the change.

        • decormaven

Yes, I liked how Zosia portrayed Joyce in Mad Men- there’s a spark there. It’s good to see her more animated on the RC.

          • Trent

And oddly, Zosia here is dressed like Betty Draper in 1962 — roller-curled hair and all.

          • grasshack

I love Zosia’s facial expression in the 2nd picture – the one under the model’s picture.

        • zmayhem

Completely unrelated to the above but I’m not sure how else to get hold of you and let you know (tell me when you’ve read this and I’ll delete), but… that other community I’m a member of where you used to lurk? If you still feel connected to it, please visit again, even just to lurk. There’s been a bad event — a founding member passed, quite suddenly and infinitely too soon, and a lot of posters, ex-posters and dedicated lurkers from way back are gathering. We’re trying to get the word out to everyone – if you know of any other long-ago lurkers, please pass it along.

          • Lori

Oh, I’m so sorry. I’ll stop by.

          • Lori

OT: everyone who isn’t zmayhem can just ignore this.

I am so very sorry. I’m not posting over there because I can’t even find my long in, which is a couple of computers gone, but you are all in my thoughts. I can’t wrap my head around her being gone.

          • zmayhem

We’re all pretty badly banged up by it. It’s always sudden, but this… It feels like we’re all Mr. Rochester in Jane Eyre unable to do anything but stagger around and gasp, “I have got a blow, Jane. I have got a blow.”

If you want to log in, email me at jzmayhem AT gmail DOT com (will also delete this soon) and I’ll hook you up with one of the mods. There are a lot of folks in the same boat, and the mods are all making themselves available to help re-set everyone’s access as needed.

          • Lori

I literally don’t remember a single piece of information about my login. Not my name, not which email I used, nothing. I don’t want to burdon people who are dealing with more than enough.

I do send my love to you and everyone else there though. It’s a special place and this is a hard, terrible thing.

          • zmayhem

Thank you. Is it okay if I share that on the board? The lurkers are all very beloved; my husband once described you as like the angels in Wings of Desire, hovering and watching and feeling with us, entirely unseen but no less real.

And hang onto my email. If you remember any of your old login info and change your mind, the offer always stands. It’s not burdening anyone; it’s connecting.

          • Lori

Yes, please do share. You are all very much on my mind today.

  • twocee

Is it just me, or does Zosia’s hair actually match the bodice of her dress?

I can’t say I LIKE Lena’s dress, but if I’m grading on a curve I have to say it’s not bad. It’s not twee at least.

I really love Alison’s dress, I thought it was one of the best of the night.

Jemima – a cape requires JLo level fashion skills. You are not JLo.

    • AudreysMom

I wondered that too (about Zosia’s hair and the bodice of the dress). Did she pick the dress to match the hair, or dye the hair to match the dress?

      • Lori

Dress chosen to match the hair. The hair’s been the (fairly awful) color for a while now.

      • holdstillnow

I’m so glad she didn’t dye her eyes to match her gown.

  • Chloe Denmark

Zosia’s hair matches her bodice and Allison reminds me of Maria Shriver with the way her eye make up looks

  • I’m out of charitable spirit for any of these train wrecks. Too much brow, too much stiff and shiny fabric, too much self satisfied smirking, and too much of my daddy’s name got me here. They can all just have a seat.

ETA- on the RC, Lena told Weecrest that she had deleted twitter, but tweets from her last night, prove otherwise. Poser.

    • nanavitsavie

“…my daddy’s name got me here” ugh yes, and at one point during the pre shows she mentioned that Zac Posen used to be her babysitter.

      • Sarah

MEAN babysitter who decided to dress her like a shiny red oven mitt.

        • Lori

Fug Girl Jessica speculated that Lena was a major PITA as a little girl and that all these crappy, unflattering dresses are the revenge of the former babysitter. I have an easier time believing that, than that anyone seriously thought this dress fit her correctly.

      • scoobysnacks

Judging by how Lena poses, Zac never took part in any potty training when he babysat. I wish someone had taken the sharpie away from Allison Williams before she’d drawn on herself. That dress did not deserve that makeup and hair. So love how the Uncles called it on the young Joan Rivers for Zosia. I had the thought, was gonna mention it down here, and before I could I saw they’d nailed it.

        • CelandineM

While it’s her body and she should be and is free to decorate it as she wishes, I still find her choices ugly and try not to look at them.

      • papillon

Is the age difference between them large enough for him to realistically have been her babysitter?

    • Pennymac

    • MK03

I expected her to say something typically tone-deaf and idiotically privileged, and I was not disappointed.

    • FibonacciSequins

She probably deleted it for five minutes and then reinstalled it.

      • Little_Olive

Well, verbal incontinence/not knowing when to stop/assuming she has important shit to say is sort of her thing, no?

    • NinaBoo

Bless her heart, there’s a difference between closing the app for a bit and deleting one’s account.

    • Little_Olive

      Weecrest. I love you.

  • Shelby

I’m not inclined to be particularly kind to the Girls girls, but this is all pretty bad. Except Zosia. For some reason, I’m giving her a pass.

    • ThisDevilWearsMcQueen

I don’t see how Allison is bad. Sure the makeup is harsh, but that dress is gorgeous and looks great on her.

      • Shelby

Apologies — Let me clarify: I think Allison looks great too, but she consistently looks good, so I wasn’t commenting so much on her as on the others. For some reason, I keep giving Zosia a pass recently — I think because I like her hair now (for reasons I can’t explain?). And, you know, her make-up (especially her brows) don’t look like a disaster. It heals many wounds. In the end, yeah, I don’t like her dress especially, but she looks happy and kinda pretty.

  • As ever, Lena’s dress would fit better if she stood up straight.

    • Trent

Better, but still shapeless and unflattering. And she’d still have those matchy shoes. I’m not totally blaming her, though — is there *anyone* that dress would look good on?

I wish Lena had just worn the Saint Laurent dress and gorgeous pumps she wore on Jimmy Fallon last week…

  • In_Stitches

Lena’s is just too damn big. It’s HUGE. It looks like it may have been designed to skim to body rather than hug it, but regardless, it definitely doesn’t fit in the way it was intended to. I can’t believe Zac Posen let her wear such an ill-fitting garment.

Why did they turn the bodice from a delightful baby blue to that sad grey on Zosia? The playfulness of the two colors against each other with that lovely hair shade she’s been working would have been so cheery. The grey just made it sad.

  • Frank_821

Why does Lena’s dress look 2 sizes too big?

Zosia needed a richer color. Yes she’s turning into junior Joan

  • stellavision

That Andrew Gn gown had SO much potential, based on the model photo. Is it the lighting, or did she actually order it in a dishwatered-down version of the original color scheme, which would have been so much better?

  • Lurker

    Jemima Kirke: Bad Kabuki Drag
Zosia Mamet: TLo nailed it: Joan Rivers before the plastic surgery. Which in not necessarily a bad thing. Just stop dressing like her.
Alison Williams: FTW. The Dress is wonderful, just tone down the makeup gun from “Strumpet” to “Subtle” & it’s a WERQ
    Lena Dunham: I can’t.

  • Latin Buddy

TLo: Will you do recaps of Girls?

    • Little_Olive

Is anything on that show not spoken out loud or happening in the background, so that we’d need recaps? Honest question

  • Wink

Lena’s hair looks good. That’s all I can muster for this.

  • Lilithcat

In that first shot, the fullness of the dress combined with the cupping of her stomach make Lena look pregnant.

Zosia just looks drab and depressed.

I like Alison’s dress, but she looks as though she has two black eyes.

I love Jemima’s top, but the skirt was absolutely the wrong choice.

  • megohd

One of my new year’s resolutions is not to comment on Lena Dunham. As my grandmother used to say, If you don’t have anything nice to say …” And I just never do.

And yes, I realized I just obeyed the letter of the law, but not the spirit.

Where have I seen Allison Williams’s dress before?

In all this cast is dressed pretty much as I would expect their characters to.

    • MissusBee

I had the same idea a while back when I read a Lena post followed by a Lupita post and realised that whereas Lupita giveth life, Lena taketh it away. So I wasn’t going to read any Lena Dunham posts anymore, but I’m in a TLo completist mood and have fortified myself by enjoying all the GG posts first. I also averted my eyes from Ms Dunham as I scrolled. Problem solved!

  • Two hair trends I will never be okay with: 1. Dying your hair grey. 2. Ombre-effect. It just looks like you were too lazy to get your roots done before showing up. Ugh!

That last dress looks like a bad Galadriel coaplay.

Also, is it just me, or does Zosia Mamet look SO MUCH like Christine Baranski with that little side-smirk?

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Zosia can only WISH she looked as good Christine Baranski.

    • PinkyAndNoBrain

Ombre actually can look good (or maybe I’m just saying that because I’m deluded, since my hair’s ombre’d from blonde to platinum), but it has to be a lot more subtle than that. She either needed a darker blonde or a slower transition, because that brown-above-ear/pale-blonde-below-ear is just jarring.

      • KinoEye

It does have to be subtle. A friend of mine has red hair that gradually fades out to blonde at the tips and it may be my favorite ombre I’ve ever seen. The change is so gradual that it looks as natural as ombre can look.

  • jen_vasm

Lena looks like she is trying to steal ALL the silverware from dinner by shoving them up her dress. Zosia appears like someone set her on fire and all that’s left of her is ash in her form, Alison is alright, but she should tell her gay to step completely away from the smokey eye next time and Jemima has successfully executed a hipster JLo maneuver.

  • JP

Lena, for pity’s sake just find a ladies’ room and stop doing the pee-pee dance in every photo opp. Color of the dress, gorgeous, shape/execution, not so much.

I too can’t unsee Brian Williams on Allison. And I wasn’t thinking Joan Rivers for Zosia — more like Kelly O, in an “I want my dress to match my hair” sort of way (though Kelly excels at ignoring her purple hair when dressing). And yes, I see scraps on that last look.

  • Samantha Ann Mauro

Poor Lena – no seriously – in the interview I saw she said “my good friend Zac designed my dress”. Find new friends Lena!

  • JenniferA

I’m gonna pack up all my brown Crayola crayons and move to Hollywood and become THE make-up artist. Clearly that is the trend.

  • Kate Andrews

I just wish Lena would stand up straight. I just can’t deal with the stupid poses! Second, Zosia’s hair color confuses me. It’s like if Kelly Osbourne’s shade was a bit more washed out. Allison looks gorgeous, and Jemima? Well, thanks for giving us something to discuss. You and JLo bit the bullet this time!

  • ashtangajunkie

What the shit is UP with the fit of Lena’s dress and WHY DOES SHE MAKE THAT FACE ALL THE TIME?

  • imspinningaround

Hey, isn’t Jemima Kirke wearing a version of Solange’s wedding attire?

  • Here’s a truth: I did not know Allison was BRIAN Williams’ daughter until she was on The Daily Show last week.

And you say they’re trying to step it up, but their star has STILL not learned how to pose like an adult for the cameras.

  • ThisDevilWearsMcQueen

Allison had one of the most gorgeous dresses of the night, even if her makeup is a bit harsh.

  • decormaven

That dress is too tricky for Lena and I’m not convinced it fits her correctly. I could almost be on board with Zosia’s look if the bodice color didn’t mirror her hair. That’s a great color of red for Allison but the makeup is too much. Jemima needs to rethink her hair coloring, and soon. I do think the Girls have stepped up their game, but it’s still not center court.

  • Q_Continuum

Watching Allison Williams’ hair was fascinating. It…doesn’t move. It’s like a Barbie movie.

  • sagecreek

I see that Zosia has joined Nicole Ritchie’s “Look 40 years older than you are!” makeup club.

    • SusannaGA

I think it’s the “look 40-years older” hair & makeup club. Baffling.

  • BobStPaul

Put them all together and they are definitelyless than the sum of their parts. Not a one was successful. On one site I saw last night the writer gushed over how great Lena looked. I, on the other hand, literally laughed out loud when I saw it. Allison could have been great but her hair and make-up were terrible.

  • SylviaPearl

Lena’s dress looks like my neighbor’s grill cover. (It has an Ohio State theme.) ….Is there , maybe, an odd piece of patio furniture under there being protected from the winter weather?

  • kimmeister

That is without a doubt the worst fitting Zac Posen dress I’ve ever seen. That is not her shade of red either. In the closeup, it is making her eyes look almost red.

  • barbarienne

Ugh, these four. Allison Williams is the only one who ever looks presentable, and that not often.

Four women with so many resources at their disposal, who still can’t look as good as your average high school girl at prom.

    • Glammie

So true. Why is that? Too many choices? I kind of clap my hands when Lena makes it to boring.

  • QuietHarper

Lena, Lena, Lena. I know that dress is trying to give you an hourglass figure. Honey, you need to own the fact that, in fact, you don’t. It’s ok. But all that dress is doing for you is emphasizing that your waist is there. And it’s not a good emphasis. You’ve proven that you can dress in a striking and appropriate fashion on other occassions.
    Points for color, though.

  • guyfromhoboken

Lena is always dressed in the most ill-fitting outfits…damn girl! Zosia almost never gets it right in the color department. I think Allison looks great, if not a little heavily made up. Jemima…oh girl…she is gorgeous yet insists on hiding that. Plus the way she stands always makes her look pregnant even though she has a gorgeous figure.

  • Emily

This is a giant trainwreck of wrinkled dresses.
The tailoring on these dress makes me want to cry. Two are too long, WAY too long and Lena’s looks like a sack, but I think that might have been the designer’s intention. You’d think that because Posen KNOWS Lena will wear what he designs, he’d you know try or something. SMH

  • alyce1213

On the Lena Dunham scale, this isn’t laughable. On anyone else, we’d laugh. How Zac Posen manages to overwork a satin wine bag, I can’t figure.
I love Zosia’s dress on the model, it’s an elegant color combo not frequently seen. She does nothing for it, she doesn’t have the chops to wear this gown. Allison could pull off this gown, but then she’d just look like a socialite.
This red Armani Prive is one of Allison’s best, and one of the best of the night, I think. A strong appearance for her.
    No comment on Jemima.

  • Thank you. Now I can’t unsee Brian Williams staring back at me in his daughter’s dress.

  • J.W.

If nothing else, I would appreciate it if Ms Dunham could stop the “I need to pee-pee” pose.

  • FibonacciSequins

I don’t mind the shape of Lena’s dress. I think it would lay better without all the tricky Zac piecing and seaming. I appreciate that she’s trying.

Zosia’s resemblance to Joan Rivers here is eerie. She looks better than usual.

Pretty Armani dress that looks boring here. Allison has a talent for going bland.

That top/cape is crying out for slim black trousers.

  • Call me Bee

Lena–dress would have worked had it actually fit.
Zosia–happy that she didn’t wear the jeweled belt, which would have taken it right to bridesmaid-land.
    Alison–Yep–what you said
Jemima–dress looks to be made of that poly satin that should only be used for Halloween costumes.

    • MarinaCat

Agree about Lena. She seems to usually wear I’ll-fitting dresses.

  • aahlife

I am wondering if Alison’s dress was shorter, and it was added on to, there seems to be a visible delineation.

  • alliekat9090

Look why dont we just give up on Lena Dunham? To be blunt there really isnt anything she could wear that would look good on her, especially as long as she insists on schlepping around hunched over and knock kneed. I know that’s harsh but its the damn honest truth.

    • FibonacciSequins

Add to that her apparent refusal to wear foundation garments.

      • alliekat9090

        thank you.

  • Imasewsure

I’d like to see Zach Posen go away (maybe he could join a band or write his memoirs)… he definitely should go away from Lena D because he’s doing her no favors. Awful

  • librarygrrl64

Why did Zosia ditch the bejeweled sash???? That’s the best part of the gown and what ties the top and bottom together! It looks unfinished without it.

  • FeminineLipstique

Jemima’s outfit could’ve used better execution, but I thought it was very her.

  • HelenofTroy

Zosia – What in the melted neopolitan ice cream 1980’s bridesmaids separates hell is that look….

  • Chloe Denmark

I couldn’t put my finger on it until just now, but Jemima’s “dress” reminds me of Lucy Liu in Kill Bill.

  • Inspector_Gidget

D minus, Zac. That is some serious fug! LD looks like she’s holding the dress in place. And her hand placement looks like she’s using all her willpower not to scratch an itch, if you know what I’m sayin’. Sorry for the image.

  • Kirke wins this round, and she knows it.

    • Shawn EH

She doesn’t beat the model. The Uncles are right, that fabric messes it up. She needed to go full-on Lost cult figure to make this work.

  • Glammie

Dear Lena, we all know Zac was your babysitter, but he is not your designer. Sorry hon. You are long-legged, short-waisted, broad-shouldered and short-necked. This hyper-constructed mannered things don’t work for you. Please see Liza Minelli on how to dress yourself. She has a similar figure type and was a total stylish knock-out in her prime.

Zosia–you’re actually pretty cool looking, but you are petite–you can not wear a lotta look. Stick to one or two crazy things, keep the rest simple.

Alison–what’s with the hair–an attempt at a Puritan thing after your jiggling ass became a new meme overnight?

Jemma–you’re actually really close here–something’s wrong about the construction–but you’re actually showing some sense of style that’s your style here.

  • Mona_Visa

Lena: The color of her dress is giving me life. Unfortunately though, that last pic looks like she’s wiping her hands on it. And as fellow Bitter Kitten Jane Duff has mentioned, it looks like she forgot to zip it up.
Zosia: I love the silver-beige hair. But the dress is not worthy. I am waiting for Zosia to kill it on the red carpet, I know she has it in her, I KNOW SHE HAS THE POWER lol, but this is not it. Some day she is going to wear that poison green dress I dream of and leave us all begging for more. She’ll have a riding crop instead of a purse. It will happen. I need it to happen.
Alison: Pretty. A bit boring. This could have been worn any time during the past 10 years, by anyone.
Jemima Kirke: Awesome in a space-cult way. The too-long skirt takes it from a fashion moment to a DIY costume.

  • anonylind

I kinda like Lena’s shoes, but that’s all I got. I don’t watch the show, so I can’t keep up with the rest of them.

  • Cheryl

I like Zac Posen, and darn it, I like Lena even though she can be a train wreck on the red carpet, but together it’s just not working. I think if Lupita wore the Zosia dress she could pull off the odd colouring of it. Not sure about the lavender hair, I liked it on Nicole Ritchie, but I don’t think it’s for everyone. Allison, pretty but kind of boring….it takes talent to make a red dress with crystals and mini layers look boring, but she did it. Jemina…hmmm, the super hero look rears it’s head at least two times at the GGs. Jemina and JLo saving the world from who knows what.

  • LibKat

Why would anyone ever wear Posen on the RC again after seeing Lena Dunham’s dress? I will never understand his popularity.
Zosia Mamet’s hair is the same color as her bodice.
How can Alison Williams make red so bland?
Jemima Kirke is ready to play a new super heroine, Tacky Woman. This looks like it was made on Saturday night by her mom.

    • Monabel

On behalf of Ms. Kirke’s mom, I resent that.

  • Man Dala

    Dunham — Emo chic
    Mamet — Depressed
    Williams — Gorgeous
Kirke — ‘Madonna in Nothing Really Matters’

  • bessann28

I do not understand why everything Lena Dunham wears is so ill-fitting. Does she pick everything at the last possible minute so that it cannot be tailored? Are her people unable to locate even one seamstress in all of Hollywood? It is simply baffling. You would think the designers that she wears would have a vested interest in making their clothes look good.

  • patticake1601

Lena get your damn clothes fitted properly! You may be wearing a dress more expensive than the car I drive, you may be wearing shoes that cost more than I make in a week but you look like a slob when your clothes don’t fit your body and this shit she does of pretending she doesn’t care is getting old. God I can’t stand her.

  • GemFemme

Zosia should play up her unique, dramatic looks with an edgy, chic style aesthetic, not ugly bridesmaid dresses.
That color is good on Lena. That’s all I got.

  • lundibleu

I see why you say Joan Rivers, but my first thought was “why does Zosia look like Christine Baranski?”

    • DaveinAlamitosBeach

That’s what I saw too, at least from the front facing view.

  • DeniseSchipani

Is it just me or does Lena’s dress, from the front, look like she forgot to zip it up in the back? It looks like it’s falling forward somehow.

  • cocohall

Ms. Mamet is getting closer to finding a look that works for her. The silhouette isn’t bad, but the color does zippo for her. Ms. Kirke looks like she is wearing the muslin pattern of her dress – the fabric looks that cheap. Too bad, because she seemed to be making an effort.

  • Amel

I really like the pale monotone thing Zosia’s got going on – it’s like she was going for a weird doll look. Basically she committed to it and I like the weirdness of it.

  • bees!

Why do Lena’s hands look like they’re on backwards in that last pic?!?

    (I swear I am stone-cold sober)

  • Paula Carr

I can’t with Lean, but I was especially annoyed while I was watching the GGs last night. Someone told a joke, and the camera panned in her direction. She was sitting there with no response, but as soon as the camera was on her, she started to laugh. It was really abrupt and really obvious. Ugh.

I’ve always thought Allison was a clone of her dad. She’s very androgynous. And WAY TOO BIG TO PLAY PETER PAN.

  • Fred Vaughn

Allison looks like she’s wearing a TP cozy.

  • marlie

Well, they’ve all improved. None of them have a perfect look, but they all seem to have made an actual *effort* to look good this time around. The shape of Lena’s dress is horribly unflattering, though.

If Alison had kept the belt and done a more dramatic earring…… I give up on Lena.

  • grasshack

oh… ok “motorboated” – that makes sense. I was wondering what that was called… 🙂

    • MilaXX

I thought that was having your salad tossed.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Yes, it does look as if all of these young women made the effort to step up on the RC this year, butwith decidedly mixed results. That Zac Posen dress is not doing anything for Dunham, yet the Fashion Police fawned over it.

  • Big Bear

I do not understand that Zac Posen dress at all. It’s just wrong in so many ways – if it showed up on Project Runway it would send the designer home. I can even hear Posen’s reedy little voice pulling the designer apart for fabric choice, puckering, the hem, the fit.

Am I the only one who though Zosia looked sweet? Apparently so.

    • MilaXX

I like Zosia, I just wished her hair was either blonde or even better brunette. It would have contrasted nicely with the look.

  • guest2visits

The fit doesn’t look all that good in these photos, but I thought it was very pretty and working for her last night. Very good make-up, hair, shoes… it all looked good for Lena, imo. I just didn’t see the back of the dress and I have a feeling it might be way too low.
Alison’s gown was gorgeous. Zosia’s was kind of sadly fit and slouchy looking. Jemima may’ve wandered off the set of Star Wars.

  • MaryMcClelland

I hate this show and Lena, so I just ignored her. Zosia’s makeup looks pretty and so does her hair, and for that I am proud of her.

    • Shawn EH

Except your gray outfit should never match: your hair.

    • Ali2044

Ditto on everything. This show is the worst. I think Zosia is probably the most talented of the four of them and I wish it was her show. She generally has atrocious style, but her hair looks lovely here.

  • boweryboy

Alison wins hands down. I still
think Lena looks like Madame Medusa, the villian from Disney’s The Rescuers.

  • MilaXX

    Bless them all, they tried.
Lena: Like the makeup, hair was decent. Dress was straight up David’s bridal $99 sale rack. The fabric is too stiff and heavy to hang right and flatter her figure. Hate the pointy red shoes with it.
Zosia: Not a bad effort. I wish the hair was blonder and she had kept the flower detail at the waist. The makeup is the best I’ve seen on her.
Allison: Great dress, bad makeup. That was not the dress for a smokey eye. Hair/Makeup are a fail
Jemima: She tried but this is a look best left to Tilda. On her it’s just amateur hour.

  • I actually think Zosia’s dress is striking with her coloring and hair–it’s a trifle awkward in shape, but at least she doesn’t look like a homeless Williamsburg granny anymore.

  • Emily Wilson

Zosia’s face matches her dress–purple/gray on top, 50’s tea cozy pink on the bottom

  • papillon

Jemima’s is very her and I like the idea of it.
Allison’s dress is so pretty but her make-up REALLY brings down that look. Should have washed your face and started again, hon.
I cannot even begin to comprehend what is going on with Lena’s dress. Why so many seams? What is that silhouette?
    Colour, Zosia, bright colour.

  • Fuchsiaforever

Did Lena swallow a gigantic Chinese take out carton???

  • suzq

    Shame on you, Zac.

  • Ann VerWiebe

Lena is obviously trying to push the dress into some kind of submission. And, it’s not working.

  • mug of mead

i think jemima looks like an olsen twin here.

  • Chelsea Sawyer

love it – they are all so pretty . .
