Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Couture at “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” LA Premiere

We feel like we’re in negotiations with this dress. Like we’re trying to come to terms with it and need some concessions from it. “Okay, if you stipulate that your silhouette’s really odd, we’ll drop our point about the ugliness of your fabric, okay? Just initial this part.”

But the bottom line is that we want to like it more than we do. It’s Dior-esque, in that it references the classic Dior feminine silhouette (although it’s more “robe de style” than “New Look”), but it’s just not Dior enough, if that makes any sense.

As we indicated, we’re having issues with both the silhouette and the fabric, neither of which strike us as particularly attractive. All that seaming in the waist isn’t fun either. And there’s a “hanging off her” effect that flattens her bust.

We’re probably struggling because it’s one of the least objectionable Diors she’s been forced into, and because her styling is pretty gorgeous. The hair’s a little flat, but the face is beautiful. All of the jewelry is on point, especially the winged ring. And the shoes are gorgeous. Basically, it’s a beautiful woman, well styled, in a drab dress that would look downright ugly to us in a different situation.

There. We said it.
