SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!infinity!!!!!!!!

Look, if you think we’re being excitable queens, just WATCH:

We’re not Disney queens at all and we’re on record as not particularly loving Maleficent, but this looks downright SPECTACULAR.

The costuming is giving us eyegasms, darlings. And yes, that is Downton Abbey’s kitchen maid, Daisy (Sophie McShera) as one of the evil (not so much “ugly”) stepsisters.

Which makes a nice turnaround since Downton Abbey’s cousin Rose (Lily James) gets to play kitchen bitch (aka Cinderella) this time.

And the King of the North (Richard Madden) is playing Prince Charming. Holy cow, he looks stunning.

This may have been the part where the audible “Holy shit”s started escaping our lips involuntarily. We definitely have to see this at the latest possible showing of the day so there aren’t any kids present, because we’ll be all “HOLY SHIT THIS FABULOUS BITCH IS WERQING IT, HUNTY!!!!!” at the screen.

What really appeals to us here (aside from the amazing cast) is the way the art direction is recognizably Disney and fantastical, but it all has a much more grounded, real-world feel to it than the recent Maleficent and Oz adaptations, both of which wound up looking like CGI kids cereal commercials at times. This has the earthy feel of a true fantasy adaptation. And it doesn’t look like they fooled around with it much. It’s a straight-up classic, Disney Cinderella story without any modern reimagining. Just AMAZING costuming.

Can we use “earthy” when everyone’s dressed like RuPaul? You know what we mean. It’s not pure froth. There’s a real sense of artistry on display. We can’t wait to see the rest of it.
