Anne Hathaway in Richard Nicoll at the “Interstellar” Premiere

It’s kind of a shame. Clearly this look was thought out (you don’t accidentally wear a bunch of stars to the premiere of a movie with this title), and we like a lot of the choices made, but the end result falls just a little flat.

Here’s the good-on-paper parts: The smokey eye, the bob (which looks great at this length) and the idea of wearing star jewelry to an event like this. Also: a simple midnight-blue gown to set it all off.  Sounds great.

But it turns out a smokey eye really alters her face from certain angles – and not to its benefit. And the hair looks kind of scraggly and grown-out instead of styled. And we’re not sure a gown like this really goes well with hand jewelry, but most importantly, we don’t think this gown really flatters her at all. It just looks so limp and droopy on her. Great color, but the shape, especially from the front, doesn’t do a thing for her.

Sorry, Annie. A set of decent ideas that didn’t quite come together in the end. Also: the nails make you look like you spent the afternoon wrapped up in your crafting projects before you realized you had a premiere to go to. Not what we’d call a sophisticated look, hon.
