Jessica Chastain in Prada at “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby” Screening

Posted on September 11, 2014

Here is our Jessica Chastain Fashion Week story. Brace yourselves. It’s scintillating. Loaded with name-dropping and a hint of scandal.

We were sitting in our seats, waiting for the Michael Kors show to start when, way down at the other end of the room, we spotted Jessica Chastain doing press. “Hey, that’s Jessica Chastain,” said Tom. “She’s really pretty,” said Lorenzo. “Yeah, she looks just like her pictures,” said Tom.

The end.

WOW! We can’t BELIEVE we just told you guys that! We hope we don’t get sued!

Anyway, that comment about her looking like her pictures may sound stupid but honestly, some celebrities do look really different in person. We’ll never get used to how tiny and thin the vast majority of them are. And we actually had an argument at the Dennis Basso show because one of us was convinced that Jada Pinkett Smith was sitting across from us and the other one insisted it wasn’t her. Turns out it was her, but it was an understandable mistake because she looks much, much softer and younger in person. All of that hardness you see in pictures is, well, part of the act, we suppose.

But that’s pretty much exactly the Jessica Chastain we saw at the Michael Kors show, smiling and giving rote interview answers to some no-doubt AMAZINGLY stupid questions. Seriously, except for our besties the Fug Girls, who as always, are doing God’s Work documenting the Fashion Week celebritysphere over at The Cut, the questions you hear some of these journalists ask the stars in the front row are jaw-droppingly inane. “What would your dream house look like?” “If you could invest in any web site, which one would it be?” “What does Latin America mean to you?” We actually have to remind each other to wipe the “WTF?” looks off our faces if we’re in the background of any camera shots.

Oh, right. This dress. Well, we hate it. The color looks bad on her and the bodice makes her look much broader than she is.

But that gawky-pretty quality she has in pictures? It’s absolutely there in real life, even from far across a crowded room. It’s a very charming kind of pretty.
