MISS DITA VON TIZZY IS IN THE HIZZY!

Project-Runway-S13-E6-Open-Thread-Television-Tom-LOrenzo-Site-TLO (1)

Finally. A guest judge who deserves to sit on the panel. This should be good.

Also: apparently, claws will be out:

Let us all come together as one and document the atrocities to come, darling. Hold us. It’s going to be a scary one. We can feel it.

Guess I picked the wrong month to give up cable tv.

    • rh33

      Do you like gladiator movies?

      • Chattygal

Have you ever been in a Turkish prison?

        • UsedtobeEP

Have you ever seen a grown man naked?

          • Chuck Barthelme

Roger, Roger. What’s our vector, Victor?

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

OMG. It’s “The Bad Seed”. Creepy, creepy movie.

        • rh33

          Leroy, give me those shoes!

  • Imasewsure

I hate Dita for making me watch this damn show (or at least one episode anyway). There better be a lot of her and a lot less of the fame whores (judges included) who usually drag this once-awesomely entertaining show down down down….

    • Josefina Madariaga Suárez

She almost makes me want to watch the show again. Oh, diva magnifica.

      • IMNAngryLiberal

Yes, I quit watching after the Gretchen season and I no longer have “fancy” cable. This is the first time that fact has made me sad. I may be forced to watch it on-line tomorrow.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Dare I say that PR is not worthy of Dita, but I”m so glad she’s judging this episode. “It looks like monkeys made it” -now would that be one-way monkeys?

    • EveEve

She disappointed. If a genuine smile or word of constructive criticism was exhibited, I sure didnt catch it. She was surprisingly (to me) stiff, standoffish, negative and mostly just unFUN. How a burlesque dancer can be so dour is a mystery. I admire her style so much, but as a reality show judge, she failed.

      • Rita Sewell

I agree. She even out-meaned Nina. Now that takes some doing!

      • @Biting Panda

I watched just for her and felt underwhelmed as well.
I found her interview with Joan Rivers (at her home, in her closet) delightful, but come to think of it, she did come off a little artificially prim.

      • Paula Carr

Seriously, what a bummer that was.

  • FibonacciSequins

I forgot until I saw this open thread that Project Runway is on tonight. Running out to get ingredients for the Santino, brb

    • Ginmaru

You’re going to need some help…..I call shotgun!

  • Stubenville

And of course, Fetch is in the front row.

  • Eric Stott

I’ll watch it until 10:00 at least.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

      Finally! I’ve missed you. 🙂

      • Eric Stott

        darling

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

It’s been so lonely and plaid-less while you’ve been away.

  • Shibori Girl

Just saw “Deco Japan, Shaping Art and Culture” today at the Seattle Asian Art Museum. Sublime! And now for a less transcendent experience, PR, Wedding Dresses and tears. A step down, but what are you going to do?

    • Qitkat

Ooh, I didn’t get to go to that museum when I was on vacation; that exhibit sounds lovely. Have you had a chance to visit the new art museum on Bainbridge Island yet? They opened a year ago. It is really worth seeing for a small museum, and easy to take in the entire place.

      • Shibori Girl

You are right! That Bainbridge Museum is terrific. I need to remember to check their exhibit schedule more often. Close enough to the ferry to be a walk on and then stroll up to the museum.

        • joything

I had no idea. Must do this next time I’m out there.

    • That sounds amazing!

    • altermyego

Thank you for having me look up the Deco Japan exhibit. Now I must go and clean up my drool. Stunning artwork!

    • Paula Carr

Oooo, thanks! Another catalog to get.

  • Bernd

I’m still wondering what kind of sob-story our ‘destined’-to-win ‘fan-favorite’ still has in her back-pocket? I mean having been picked as the least-objectionable shouldn’t automatically guarantee her win, or are the prods getting this lazy?

  • Chartreusite

Well we know Sandhya is safe this week… Did my eyes deceive me or are her and Char on the same team? That should be an interesting match-up

    • Chartreusite

Also Samantha might be getting the claws out on Amanda? I might have a new favorite!

    • housefulofboys

Sorry, I must have missed something, how do we know Sandhya is safe?

      • Chartreusite

Showing her looking like she’s gonna cry on the runway. Might not be the case but usually that’s a reality tv promo fakeout

        • housefulofboys

thanks! Like you, I thought that might be a red herring, as in “tears of joy.”

          • Chartreusite

Definitely. I mean regardless, one would be safe to assume one of the main airtime hogs (besides Amanda) wouldn’t be gone so soon, be it by avoiding auf or getting the Tim Gunn Save

          • MM4321

I understand the comments about Amanda, but to be fair it is the editors, and not she, who is giving her all the airtime. Also in fairness, if you go back to her original season, she is not a big trash-talker or meanie at all. She seems like a nice person and a decent designer, and it could be so much worse.

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I agree about the airtime and editing, but SHE is still the one actually saying the things that are being aired. She couldn’t be edited to be bitchy and full-of-herself if she didn’t say the things. Even if she is being prompted, she does not have to say what she’s been saying.

That’s always been my problem with people on “reality” shows that claim that they’re edited to look bad. You can’t be edited to look bad if you don’t say the things.

          • MM4321

I hear you! I just see it as more self-involved and “try-hard” than bitchy. She’s not really undermining people or dragging others down, so I blame the show for airing her so much more than other designers.

On a separate note, I loved her talking to Fade b/c it was fun hearing more from him!

          • Chartreusite

Whoops my comment wasn’t to imply that she was entirely at fault. I do agree the editors are gonna focus on her given what storyline they’re trying to sell, just trying to point out she’s at least making it as far as Kate did last season and Sandhya is probably the same. When the editors are focused on you so consistently for so long, chances are you’re in it for the long haul.

That being said, I do think Amanda is in a way trying to sell her personality to the viewers. I don’t think she’s cantankerous or bitchy, but I do think she is getting a little more over-the-top to appeal to the cameras. I liked her enough on her first season, but we’ll see.

          • Paula Carr

I’m with you, but I wasn’t that fond of her on her original season.

  • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I’m kind of sort of maybe excited by this challenge. It seems kind of sort of maybe interesting, especially with Dita involved. I’d be more firm about my possible interest if they’re given 2 days….

A girl can dream, can’t she?

    • The Counselor

They haven’t had 2 days for any challenge yet this season, right? And, over time, the show’s really cut back on those–probably to save money in production costs, but it also really diminishes the quality of the output, giving us the “department store”-level stuff we see more and more of 🙁

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Oh, I know. I know. But they generally have at least one, don’t they? And a wedding dress seems like a good time…

        Yeah, I know. Dreaming.

    • Many of us will dream along with you. Please give us (them) two days.

  • Elisabeth Ashley

I’m tired of the team challenges, because the producers clearly create certain teams just for the drama. Still the challenge seems interesting, much more than the design a dress for Heidi, so I’ll be watching while drinking a mango smoothie (not all of us are 21 lol).

  • Jackie4g

Dita defines fabulous, and it’s hard to imagine any fabulous-ity from this season’s crop. Sorry to say, but there it is.

  • muzan-e

And somehow, I find myself remembering the day I realised how much I prefer watching Michael Bay’s battleship-porn The Last Ship to this weekly trainwreck. [insert terrible pun about how the one’s a sinking ship and the other’s a show about the Navy]

  • BawlmerGurl

“It looks like monkeys made it.”

    Heh. Love her.

  • Call me Bee

Hi, Kittens! I need a vodka–I have some boring handwork to do, so I won’t be able to type during the show. But I’ll be reading! Im semi-excited about Miss Dita, though I am not familiar with her work, besides being the (former?) wife of Marilyn Manson. But I love her style.
ETA: I just learned that A&E cancelled Longmire!!! I need a double vodka after this news…..

    • CelandineM

WHAT? Longmire was cancelled, I am dying a little inside. I will drink with you,*sobs *.

  • I’m going to relax with a long bath and a glass of wine before this episode.

  • Aidan B

Oh yessss…I love me some Dita. This should be fun.

  • Aidan B

Also, thank you to the kitten in the previous thread who directed us to Suri’s Burn Book because I am LOVING this. Keeping me busy until PR starts…and probably for a while after.

  • BuffaloBarbara

Oh, dear. Just wondering much of a train wreck this will be. I’ve been re-watching “Work of Art” on amazon streaming. I miss good challenges and good judging (sort of) and not too very much drama. Oh, fellow kittens, I keep watching PR hoping for the show it should be, instead of the show it is. I think this may be a sign of delusional thinking on my part.

Given the random things people get married in, what qualifies as “alternate”? High neck and long sleeves? All that’s coming to mind is Lydia’s red getup from Beetlejuice.

And I don’t have any wine. I guess I’ll go for some SoCo and Pepsi.

    • Eric Stott

Work Of Art started out being interesting, but it went downhill quite fast- so many “one way monkey” artists.

      • BuffaloBarbara

Oh, yeah — too many artists these days are encouraged to be OWMs, on the thought that their “style” is somehow immutable and unchanging. It’s too bad, because they’re so young on that show, and they seemed to be blocking new inputs that could help them grow… which I’d think would be half the excitement doing challenges.

        • Eric Stott

And with all due respect to them, too many artists who use their work as a means of working out their issues and / or personal catharsis. It too often bogs down into “a horrible thing happened to me (or to my family) and I want the world to know”

          • BuffaloBarbara

Big agreement there, though I guess the art world disagrees with us. With everything there is in the world, is the mirror really the most interesting thing to look at?

          • bitchybitchybitchy

I saw something nasty in the woodshed…..But did it see you? Yes, folks, please back away from the mirror.

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Why is it always in the woodshed? I’ve always wondered.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

            Dramatic convention/cliche? I don’t know.

          • Laurel

From Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons. All kittens should read this book.

          • lastminutelucy

Agreed! Also enjoy the BBC movie version of the book. Most delightful!

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

You’re right. I’d forgotten. I haven’t read the book, but I love the movie.

          • Hawkeye

            AGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT.

          • Paula Carr

My favorite Kate Beckinsale movie … maybe tied with her version of “Emma.” And the book was good, too. Although I think it was one of those rare cases where the movie edged out the book by a hair. Gawd. We quote lines from it all the damn time. I can’t see a large Ford vehicle without saying “Ford Vaaan” like Ian McKellen.

      • UsedtobeEP

I am going to start drinking every time someone else says “one way monkey” on a PR thread. It still makes me laugh.

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

          It’s so apt.

          • UsedtobeEP

In fact, I don’t have to work tomorrow. Time to go get a beverage. So there.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I liked the first season of Work of Art. I think it’s hard to be creative on demand, though.

      • BuffaloBarbara

I liked parts of the second season. It was still better than your average PR these days.

      • BuffaloBarbara

The thing for me is that I actually find things like that to be kind of stimulating for creativity. Not for excellence — you can’t get that kind of excellence with the time constraints — but being given a prompt often just kicks my brain into gear. What can I do with that thing? How can I answer this question? How could I say this? It actually breaks through some brain-lock when I’m drifting to be issued a challenge.

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Good on you! I’m pretty much the opposite – especially with a time constraint. My brain will freeze, and I can feel the panic come into my eyes. If I have time to relax and mull it over, then I’m okay.

          • Eric Stott

I wish they’d done Work Of Performance Art——it would have been absolutely whacked out.

          • BuffaloBarbara

Heh. I was watching it, trying to solve the contestants’ problems, because I can’t hear the prompt without neurons firing. (Of course, I’m not a visual artist of any sort, so I can’t actually do it. I do the same with PR, and I’m even worse when it comes to sewing!)

    • Paula Carr

“Given the random things people get married in, what qualifies as “alternate”? High neck and long sleeves?”

      Yep.

  • alula_auburn

Hello! I did not think I would be here tonight, since as a swinging single gal I was supposed to, um, go to a bar and play Cards Against Humanity with total strangers! But when I got there it was full of some kind of sports reunion and I couldn’t even yell loud enough to find someone to ask if it had been canceled or double-booked! So I did my nails and wore nicer-than-usual work clothes and redid my make-up for nothing and walked a mile and a half round trip for nothing! Thanks, match dot com!

I feel better for getting that out of my system. Thanks, y’all. This will probably be more fun, anyway.

    • UsedtobeEP

Their loss, our gain. Your nails look fabulous.

    • Stubenville

Let me buy you a drink.

      • alula_auburn

already this is more fun! 🙂

  • Jacob Bowen

Ready to go BK’s?!?!? It’s almost time! 90 seconds!

  • Eric Stott

    Time for the wedding

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Nice day for a white wedding-typed with my best Billy Idol sneer in place.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

        Excellent.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Hey little sister, what have you done?

  • Cele Deemer

    A toilet paper accident??? Woo-hoo!

  • Jacob Bowen

So I totally decided NOT to grade papers tonight so I could read Harry Potter, eat Chipotle, drink Starbucks, and watch Project Runway…so this better be good.

    • UsedtobeEP

Aww, that sounds like the best night ever.

      • Jacob Bowen

Yeah, well after getting to school every morning this week at 6:30am, leaving at 5pm and spending 2 hours every night grading/planning/entering said grades, I thought I deserved it.

        • UsedtobeEP

You are my hero. What grade?

          • Jacob Bowen

8th Math. My first year EVER as a full time teacher…and I don’t have a room, I live on a cart (which doesn’t work for a non-organized boy).

          • Sherilyne Cox

Buy the media specialist’s allegiance with muffins and fresh flowers. He or she will become an invaluable resource. Also…..draft a couple of over-achievers to assist you with grading.

          • Jacob Bowen

Luckily I’m going to start having them grade homework in class, but the issue is all of the informal and formal assessments that I’m going to be regularly giving out…and I was thinking just like you are…I complimented her outfit the first day and now she’s always coming by to see if I need anything. I actually want to become a media specialist for a district too, so it helps that I ask her a BUNCH of questions and want to know everything that she does, which she really likes.

          • Sherilyne Cox

Make sure you compliment her to others…..a great way to demonstrate gratitude, and then some. Bon chance, Jacob.

          • ChrisP

Media specialists are becoming an endangered species, unfortunately. Often not seen as vital to the core mission and put first on the chopping block when budget cuts loom. (Yes, I am a Bitter School Librarian as well as BK. )

          • mhershey

I have 2 years of cart experience. You’ll survive.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

Dear heavens, you deserve some alcohol, but given that you have to teach tomorrow, stick to Starbucks and get ready to pour yourself something good on Friday night.

          • Jacob Bowen

I’m heading up to Milwaukee as SOON as school’s over tomorrow to stay over at my bff’s new apartment! She just broke up with her bf last week, so we will DEFINITELY be having some drinks!

          • bitchybitchybitchy

Yes, that calls for some serious drinking, and also something deliciously non-nutritious in the way of eats.

  • Kimbolina

Jesus, what is this middle school BS? Seriously.

  • alula_auburn

hahaha, oh Amanda. That is so precious. Not in the way that means cute.

  • Eric Stott

Ohhh…..playing up personal conflict. Is this going to turn into “Big Designer”?

    • Cheryl

“The Real Housewives of the Runway.”

      • Eric Stott

        “Runway Shore”

        • Jacob Bowen

“The Bad Designers Club”….or wait, that’s what the show is already.

    • Sherilyne Cox

      CSI:PRU

  • BuffaloBarbara

Really, they needed to ask if she’s creating unnecessary drama? Isn’t that what they kept her for?

  • GoryDetails

I had to laugh at the “unnecessary drama” vote; goes for most of the series!

And Tim and Dita look fabulous! “Wouldn’t that be fun,” indeed…

  • FibonacciSequins

Dita’s face looks suspiciously smooth and puffy

  • Kaonashi

Prayer circle that Fade doesn’t get eliminated this week!

    • MilaXX

Fade’s not in any danger of being auf’d

      • muzan-e

Fourth-last. Long enough to keep me watching, premature enough to swear I’ll never do it again.

        • MilaXX

Now that I can see happening.

    • SouthernGirlRena

He’s gotten a lot more camera time tonight. That is either a very good sign or a very bad sign.

  • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Tim and Dita married? That would be so…so…SO

    • Eric Stott

      Well Groomed?

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

        EXACTLY!

    • bitchybitchybitchy

The most impeccable couple ever-the universe would approve, and then implode because it just wouldn’t be allowed.

  • alula_auburn

Holy awkward segue, Batman! But it would be a fabulous affair.

  • Aidan B

Tim looks so much more comfortable introducing this challenge then I remember seeing him in a LONG time

    • Call me Bee

Probably because it seems to be a real fashion challenge!

      • Aidan B

Precisely! And no awkward product placement

        • Eric Stott

          just wait…..

      • FibonacciSequins

        No bottomless fries.

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

          There’s ALWAYS bottomless fries.

          • FibonacciSequins

I’m surprised bottomless fries don’t come flying off the shelves when they pull fabric bolts at Mood.

          • Aidan B

            HAHAHA

          • Qitkat

And catsup would improve some of those fabrics.

  • Slade Thunderdragon

Who would have thought that Amanda hates team challenges. That’s a shock to me.

    • FibonacciSequins

      I never would have guessed.

      • alula_auburn

        This is brand-new information!

  • GoryDetails

“No rules” and “Must be believable as a bride” and “No costumes”… sound like rules to me…

    • Eric Stott

      How about a meat gown?

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

It would violate Lady Gaga’s copyright.

        • Eric Stott

          fish?

        • alula_auburn

Maybe if it was made from tofu or seitan instead. . .

  • SH

And Amanda gets teamed up with Korina innn….

    • FibonacciSequins

      5 4 3 2 1

  • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Of course, Fetch had a rock n’ roll wedding.

    • alula_auburn

Is there anything she’s not an expert at?

      • FibonacciSequins

        Team challenges.

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

She’s an expert, she just hates them.

          • FibonacciSequins

            That’s true.

      • Courtney

Making clothing BKs would actually want to wear?

  • Jacob Bowen

    SHOCKER.

  • Mrs David Tennant

    Sharkita? Is that her name?

    • Call me Bee

      Charkita. Yup.

    • Jacob Bowen

      She goes by Char.

      • Sherilyne Cox

        I see a Charnado brewing.

    • MilaXX

Yes but it’s spelled with a C. Probably Charkida or Charkita. It’s a variation of Charlene.

      • alula_auburn

My closed captions say “Charketa.” (I have a new neighbor who has a harmonica and a very yappy dog.)

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

There is so much about that comment that is just win.

        • housefulofboys

That’s the stuff that nightmares are made of…we’ll pray for you

  • Kimbolina

    OH PLEASE.

  • BuffaloBarbara

Oh, that’s not fake at ALL.

  • Chinotto

    Yeah, totally random pairing, smh

  • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Amanda + Korinna = The Mean Girls

  • Cele Deemer

    PULEEEZE

  • Cheryl

Whatever happened to the random “button bag”?

    • MilaXX

I guess they gave up that pretense.

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Maybe there’s no room in the budget for it anymore.

  • Chinotto

    Oh, Fade, “paint on denim”?

  • Kaonashi

Who is Fade paired with? I don’t have cable so I’m trying to follow along in here.

    • Aidan B

      Emily

    • MilaXX

I think Fade & Emily could be a pretty good pairing.

      • Aidan B

        I’m intrigued!

      • Kaonashi

I hope so. I don’t want him to go home.

  • Eric Stott

    I Totally Feel Denim…..

  • Slade Thunderdragon

What’s with all the designer’s names being showed in blue over their bodies? Have they done this throughout the rest of the season?

    • marlie

No one yet knows (or cares) who the designers are.

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

Amanda is looking very orange this week. Is it just my TV?

    • Hawkeye

No. She looks like she got into the Pan-Cake too heavily.

      • Paula Carr

She’s got a pretty large mole near her mouth, and she likes to cover it. I think she just went a bit overboard.

  • MilaXX

Rather tired of all these bloggers as guest judges. I appreciate the grind it takes to be a successful blogger, but really any more than 1 a season and I start to think they couldn’t get any bonfide celebs or fashion people. So let’s start with more fake drama and then amp it up with a team challenge. How much do we get to bet Amanda & Korina are a team? *sigh* Oh show, so predictable.

    • SH

If they’re going to have bloggers as judges they could at least get TLo 😉

      • alula_auburn

I would upvote a hundred times if I could!

      • Kimbolina

I think they’ve been asked but have always turned it down. I think I remember them tweeting it once.

        • FibonacciSequins

I’m sure they have good reasons for turning it down but wouldn’t that be a fun episode for us!

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Integrity? Pride in their work? Sanity? All good reasons.

          • Personally I wouldn’t be able to continue to snark if I became part of the process. And who wants to lose their snark?

      • MilaXX

They’ve said before they don’t want it.

        • SH

Oh yeah I’m not surprised but in my fantasy version of Project Runway where it still also showcases talented designers I’d love it.

      • sundaynightaddict

“also known as ‘The Blonde Salad’,” according to Heidi. WTF kind of name is the blonde salad?!?!

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Dita is not a blogger. She is Dita von Tese!

      • MilaXX

Sorry, I wasn’t referring to Dita. There’s a second guest judge. Cheri something or other.

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

And I missed that completely! Sorry. 🙂

    • FibonacciSequins

I already think they can’t get bonafide celebs and fashion people.

    • Chattygal

I’d rather Tim just came out with it: “Designers, we really want to ramp up the needless drama, so instead of pretending your match-ups are the product of a random button bag draw [laughs], we’re just telling you outright you are going to work with your workroom enemy.”

      • It is so obviously contrived, I would respect the show so much more if they were just honest about it.

        • Cheryl

And tying their legs together like in a three-legged race! That could work.

  • Stubenville

Brace yourself for an onslaught of verbal dirreah and complaining from Korina

    • EveEve

Hopefully for the last week. She is being edited as the class bitch without the design chops to back it up.

  • alula_auburn

Since when is a suit or suit-based dress totally alternative? Heck, it’s Miss Manners approved for second weddings!

    • Eric Stott

      She’s reinventing the 1960’s

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Must you insult an entire decade?

        • Eric Stott

Only such things as Polyester Brocade Unisex Wedding Suits……and I saw those too.

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Good point. (Remember a few years ago when “they” brought the 70’s back, polyester and all? Flashbacks.)

    • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

It’s a PUNK suit. In BLACK. So edgy.

  • Kimbolina

What was the budget for this? I missed it as it flashed across the screen.

    • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

Whatever change they can dig out of the sofa.

    • marlie

      $400.

      (I think.)

  • Cele Deemer

    Those yellows hurt my eyes!

  • Jacob Bowen

I LOVE that they are designing for a lesbian couple!

  • Angela_the_Librarian

I would totally go for a wedding on the moon theme!

    • Eric Stott

If they cut the skirts as short as usual you’ll have a wedding moon…

      • Angela_the_Librarian

        Touché!

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

        Don’t say like that!

  • Chinotto

Awww, the Mood dog is named Swatch?

    • Jacob Bowen

Yep! He’s been there for a BUNCH of seasons!

      • alula_auburn

I always love a Swatch sighting.

        • DollyMadisonWI

Sometimes it’s the best thing about an episode.

      • sundaynightaddict

I seriously get mad when there isn’t enough Swatch in an episode. I do love how, in these later seasons, Swatch is totally over all the chaos. He lays down in the middle of the floor and forces everybody to step over or around him like the mere mortal idiots that they are. It’s awesome.

        • Paula Carr

I think he’s just not a puppy anymore.

But one of my sister’s Bostons was doing 3 foot vertical jumps the day before he went to the big doggy boneyard in the sky.

    • serenab44

BM does a good job of making sure we see Swatch in every episode; I appreciate that!

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

      We love Swatch!

  • Mrs David Tennant

    Felted wool? Really?

    • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

      I blame Game of Thrones.

  • Theresa Q

Good Evening Kittens. I would love a drink tonight, but I can’t. So I’m going to take a it of this craziness tonight.

    • FibonacciSequins

      Good evening!

  • Jacob Bowen

Where the HELL is my chiffon!!?!?

  • Kimbolina

Initial thoughts, I think Fade and Emily might do well. Possibly Sean and Kini too.

    • FibonacciSequins

      Same thoughts here.

  • Slade Thunderdragon

    Amanda and her feelings. Gosh.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

She’s a special snowflake, you know, we’ve got to be gentle.

    • Passionflora

      Really.

  • Cheryl

I like lace, and I like Sandy’s bright colors idea, but I don’t like yellow lace. At all.

  • Fashion Is Spinach

Why is Kini’s biggest concern Char if she’s not his partner?

  • Mrs David Tennant

Why do I have to keep clicking show new comment????

  • Kimbolina

I don’t understand Char/Sandhya’s top. Darts are gonna be terrible with the leather. They should do a princess seam to get the leather to curve better.

  • Eric Stott

I’d rather see “Design a wedding gown…..FOR YOURSELF”…..and that goes for the men too.

    • Jacob Bowen

I would LOVE to be a PART of that challenge! I have had my imaginary wedding dress designed for YEARS!

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

If only we could share pics! I would love to see it.

  • BuffaloBarbara

I looks like someone is actually making the Beetlejuice dress.

I kind of like the bright yellow, actually. But do they need to do the, “Charkida needs to be taught to sew” edit? It doesn’t look that way. It looks like she just needed help with the leather.

  • blondie65

lace, leather and chiffon. I am worried…

    • Tim will be too. Rather, concerned.

    • UsedtobeEP

      Score!

  • Liz

Why do Amanda’s face and manner of speaking remind me so much of Kelly Mantle? If only Amanda had received the same early elimination, eh?

  • Fashion Is Spinach

Has PR ever done a crossover with Abby Lee Miller?

    • Frank_821

thankfully not. sh did go on dancing with the stars and caused ruckus

    • marlie

GAWD, I hope that doesn’t happen.

    • Courtney

Please no. She was awful on DWTS.

    • Angela_the_Librarian

I don’t think I could watch an episode with her… It would make me physically ill

    • Cele Deemer

She was also on that show where the two gals own that bra shop

      • Jacob Bowen

Oh my gosh I secretly LOVE that show…

    • alula_auburn

      bite your tongue!

  • GoryDetails

I’m channel-surfing between this and “The Quest”, where actual back-stabbing is a real possibility; makes a nice contrast. And their leather-and-chainmail outfits are quite dashing! I’d love to see someone try a chainmail wedding dress – but wait, was there a “no costumes” rule? Darn!

    • MilaXX

I quite like that show. It’s cute and mostly harmless.

  • Eric Stott

Oh Kini…..another big ruffle hanging off the hip…..so original

    • FibonacciSequins

And he’s so excited about it.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

When is Kini not exicted? (I do so enjoy little Hawaiian troll doll)

        • bitchybitchybitchy

You’re onto something-now I know what Kini has reminded me of-those little troll dolls that were a fad back in the 60’s.

          • Courtney

I’m never going to be able to unsee that now.

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I’ve seen it since TLo’s meet the designers post. 😉

  • Kimbolina

Isn’t Korinna always lost? Like every week.

    • ShaoLinKitten

      “I don’t get it! I really don’t understand…” Every single week.

  • Mrs David Tennant

    Ingenuine? Huh.

    • penguinmom

      Love your name!

    • BringittotheLight

I caught that too. Dictionary meet Char, Char meet Dictionary.

  • FibonacciSequins

    Oh Amanda, get over it.

  • Cheryl

    No, Amanda, you’re not fat!

  • Jacob Bowen

Okay Amanda…keep stirring the drama pot.

  • Courtney

I am sorry now that I was wishing for more Fade, if this is what we’re going to get of him.

    • Angela_the_Librarian

This is probably the only way he’ll get screen time unfortunately.

  • alula_auburn

Maybe I’m projecting but fade is coming off adorably deadpan snarky to me here. Or else just too grown-up for the mean girl bullshit. Either way, I like him.

  • Frank_821

in all honestly, it is bullshit they would bother to be insulting. there is no reason for it. regardless

  • Peeve

What a lovely guy Fade is…

  • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Perhaps they called you fake because you are?

    Just a thought.

Aw. Fade is such a nice guy. They never see the fake as quickly as women do. 🙂

    • ShaoLinKitten

I thought Fade was all, “They called you a phony? Nooooo….” but he was thinking inside, “Those hundinnen have nerve! Good for them!” Korina and Char have been swigging hard at the hatorade, though. It’s lame.

    • swanpride

I think he was more shocked that someone would say that into the face of someone else out of the blue. It is after all quite an accusation to make, because it is only based on personal reception. I’m sure if someone tries to pull one over him, he would be on top of this immediately.

  • Amanda, please!

  • Jacob Bowen

Okay Tim, I will take you off my guest list then!

  • Fashion Is Spinach

    Fade, nein! Kein Amandafreundschaft!

  • FibonacciSequins

That top is so overworked, Char.

  • Angela_the_Librarian

    Superbly executed in 6 hours!

  • Jacob Bowen

Okay Ms. GREEN you are NOT the person who should comment on colors!

    • Eric Stott

Yes- but she’s right- yellow can be overwhelming

      • Jacob Bowen

Totally, and it doesn’t go with every skin tone, but I just find it hilarious that after last week’s “I got a different color green” debacle, she is the one to be interviewed about color.

        • Frank_821

especially the goal is to make an alternative style wedding ensemble

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

She’s an expert. She’s been on the show before.

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

I think Fade thinks the other girls called Amanda a telephoney.

  • nosniveling

the maroon is awful. at least Char & Sandyha are actually working together. with their equally awful color.

  • GTrain

“Just like a really cool woman.” That’s…indefinite

  • Chinotto

Has Korina’s hat already been eliminated?

    • MilaXX

Except for last week, she’s manage to not be the worst of the worst.

  • Kimbolina

Oh Tim, stirring the pot with Amanda and Korinna…

    • Jacob Bowen

      This is truly disappointing…

    • Courtney

True, but I’m not sure he doesn’t have a point. A lady tux is not exactly unusual.

      • Eric Stott

its about as cutting edge as a biker jacket at a wedding

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I wear a biker jacket to all weddings.

      • Kimbolina

Oh, I agree. But the way they edited it, it was all about the DRAMA.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I still keep hoping that that is really the Timbot 3000, and not the real Tim Gunn, but I really should let that fantasy go. OK, it’s time to grab that bottle of French style Rose from the fridge and pour a big glass to comfort myself.

  • Cele Deemer

    Eww. Now Amanda’s gloating

    • housefulofboys

We can only hope for a smack-down in the very near future.

  • FibonacciSequins

Tim might as well have given Amanda immunity right then and there.

  • Slade Thunderdragon

Everyone’s talking about how no one would wear that yellow that Sandhya and Char are using. I swear that Heidi has worn that yellow before (although shittily). Marion Cotillard and Fan Bing Bing have worn that yellow and rocked it. I think even Lupita has rocked that yellow. I don’t think it’s an impossible color. Especially against both Sandhya’s and Char’s skin tones, it could be beautiful.

    • FibonacciSequins

It would be beautiful with Char’s complexion, but she’s not wearing it on the runway.

      • Slade Thunderdragon

Right but who’s to say the girl she’s designing for wouldn’t have her skin tone?

        • FibonacciSequins

But a lot of people do have a problem with the idea of wearing yellow. It’s giving the judges something easy to criticize, if it doesn’t work.

          • MilaXX

But if you can sell tit with a good story the judges may cut you some slack. They seem to like good backstories these days.

          • Paula Carr

Sell “tit?” Was that a typo? If so — AWESOME. Heidi loves her some tit.

    • BuffaloBarbara

The skin tone is important — I couldn’t wear it without looking like I have liver disease — but with the right skin tone, it would be utterly stunning. Contrast it with a spill of dark hair, yeah. Lovely.

But much depends on the judges’ visceral reaction to it, I think.

      • Slade Thunderdragon

Right I don’t have faith in the judges’ reactions this season. haha

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I’d wear that yellow. I have worn that yellow. And it works.

Edited to add: I’m really, really fair-skinned (ivory), with dark eyes and dark hair.

      • Paula Carr

I think it’s the ivory skin that helps you here. I’m very pink. Yellow is vomitrocious on me.

  • Qitkat

Those yellows are burning my retinas.

  • dash1211

Even if Amanda is eliminated (fat chance), Tim will use his save.

    • Qitkat

      That would be a waste.

      • dash1211

        Agree!!

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

      Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

    • Fashion Is Spinach

He’d better save that save for Fade.

  • Insta runway? No thanks.

  • Whoops, bath ran long. What’d I miss? Did Dita come out with something fabulous at the beginning?

    • Eric Stott

Good but not memorably good- she will save the glam for judging

      • Aw I was hoping she’d come out in a martini glass or something. I suppose the budget is super low this season, what with the bottom of the barrel product placement.

    • FibonacciSequins

Nothing fabulous from Dita. Team challenge, started with Amanda whining about Korina saying mean things to her, next scene they were put on the same team. Tim just praised Amanda’s outfit and warned Korina to step it up because someone’s going home.

  • GoryDetails

I like to imagine the director calling for the camera angles – “Catch the superior smile! Cut to the didn’t-get-invited-to-the-party face! Back to the Tim-likes-me-best face!”

I really would like to see an annotated airing of the show, with pop-up-video-style captions highlighting all the editing decisions – I mean, it’s not as if we don’t know that the show’s practically sculpted, right? But I wonder if Producer A and Producer B ever argue about which character gets the “to be hated” edit…

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

Why is Amanda turning into an Oompa Loompa?

  • EveEve

Gotta say – Sandhya’s looks petty hiddy, but hoping Char will ditch the leather and come up with something fab and very “her.”

  • BuffaloBarbara

I really don’t get the Amanda edit, or the plot they’re going for with her.

    • Courtney

Amanda herself seems to believe she’s undoing some kind of injustice visited upon her.

  • Frank_821

I know Amanda is not exactly everyone’s favorite person and I agree she’s been overpraised but I find it odd and rather immature for Karina to tear into her like that t the beginning. Same for Char, I still like Char but there’s no point to make such a comment. Is it it fair for them to bring back Amanda. of course not. It’s not fair to bring back ANY past designer. But don’t blame Amanda blame the show

oh and SEan and Kini’s looking pretty fab

    • I agree, there is no point in resenting Amanda for capitalising on an opportunity that has been used before on the show and that, no doubt, other designers would take advantage of and will be taking advantage of in the future. If Amanda hadn’t jumped at the opportunity, then there would just be somebody else in her place.
And while I do think she has been overpraised, the designers should just suck it up and get over it, complaining about her is not going to change anything.
As for the drama, that has the producers’ fingerprints all over it.

    • DollyMadisonWI

It was completely calculated on Korina’s part too because then she spent so much time saying “But don’t think about it”, knowing that was all Amanda was going to focus on. Korina seems to have no other tactic in her arsenal than pulling the rug out from under the other designers. I guess she has to do that because she doesn’t have the skill or imagination to win the competition on her abilities. And why did Char have to chime in? Amanda – I can take her or leave her but Korina? I want to see her kicked to the curb.

      • Paula Carr

This. Really. This. Korina is just trying to put others off their game. But each week she puts out mostly dreck, so it’s in a futile cause.

        • DollyMadisonWI

It’s clearly not working to throw others off their game via her bullshit tactics. Although she may be successful at making them physically ill from her shitty designs.

    • sundaynightaddict

I really HATE people who are needlessly mean. And I really hate that that stupid bitch Korina actually made me feel bad for a contestant that I really can’t stand. I can’t help but think about what it would feel like if somebody, completely out of the blue, said something like that to me — particularly in a situation where you can’t avoid these people for the next howmanyever weeks.

  • Eric Stott

“A masculine top and a feminine bottom”…..Oh, he’s going to be teased for that

  • EveEve

Oh Kini – Dita is going to LOVE what you’re making!

  • Fashion Is Spinach

A cummerbund never occurred to them?

    • FibonacciSequins

      lol

    • They could do a cummerbund as a bandeau top.

  • MilaXX

Kini’s dress looks like he’s designing for Madam Vestra.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

That is not a bad thing.

      • MilaXX

No but it is not a new thing either. It’s all very much in his wheelhouse. I have yet to see Kini stretch himself.

  • Kimbolina

Sean and Kini have definitely put the most thought into their design compared to everyone else.

  • Courtney

“Whose side are you on?” Lifetime needs a third option for neither.

    • marlie

I also think it’s ridiculous that they’re further contributing to this childish, stupid behavior. If course, it brings the DRAMZ, but it’s absurd.

  • Jacob Bowen

I am on NEITHER’s side!!! GAHHH!

  • So, “alternative wedding” is just slang for “make a pretty dress” right?

    • Eric Stott

seems like that….and having two looks makes it a pretty broad range

  • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Will Amanda’s wedding dress have (hand cut) fringe? Can she resist?

(And why is there no option for “neither” on the who’s side are you on?)

    • alula_auburn

I thought that was her “innovation.”

    • Theresa Q

Why couldn’t there be an option of help your partner with your strengths?

  • Fashion Is Spinach

“Laying the applique across all her bits”?

    • Eric Stott

      covering up the Good China

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

“Good China” annoys me far more that “lady bits.”

        • Qitkat

It’s been overused to death, funny the first half dozen times, now it’s just too cutesy.

    • Fashion Is Spinach

      A masculine top and a feminine bottom. . . .

      • Eric Stott

but who on that team is the top?

  • housefulofboys

Fortunately, Char’s model has olive skin.

    • Jacob Bowen

She lucked out! ETA: More like she probably knew her model had olive skin.

  • Cele Deemer

REALLY!? Amanda complaining about “a lot of treatment”>??????

  • Qitkat

Can I go on record that I detest women’s private parts being called bits?

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Don’t you mean “lady” bits? Imagine if we called them man bits!

      • Eric Stott

men don’t have bits – they have parts

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Men have penises, and women have vaginas (“va-jay-jay” is the worst!)

          There. I said it

      • Qitkat

I didn’t even want to say parts, but wasn’t ready to name every separate anatomical item.

        • Stubenville

Just call it “the good china” and move on. =)

    • pdquick

      Men have “floppy bits.”

  • MilaXX

I almost want Char/Sandhya to win just because I’m tired of everyone complaining about the color.

    • Mrs David Tennant

I don’t have a problem with the color – I have a problem with what they are doing with it.

      • Eric Stott

        It looks fussy and messy

        • Jacob Bowen

You just described Sandhya’s design aesthetic.

          • Eric Stott

It’s beginning to look like a fleece duster

          • EveEve

My mother sewed that chartreuse “lace” trim across my bedroom curtains when I was a kid.

    • Slade Thunderdragon

      FORREAL

    • EveEve

I’d rather see an unconventional bright color than black. Black is almost traditional for weddings at this point. Why not a deep aubergine, or dark royal blue? But theSandhya / Char designs at this point are awful. Then again, we’ve seen things go down the runway that bore no resemblance to what they showed in the work room, so who knows where this is going?

      • Eric Stott

At least most of the designers this year aren’t afraid of color

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

It is something new and different!

        • Courtney

I think the majority are still black-centric. This challenge all but demanded color, I think.

      • swanpride

I agree…the yellow is shockingly bright, and I think they should have combined it with another colour, but it was the least of the problems in both designs.

    • I kind of hate how they’re criticizing the color – yeah it would look bad on mine, because I’m a pale freckled redhead. Might look beautiful on Sandhya or Char.

    • Munchkn

Isn’t yellow a fairly classic color among Asians?

  • Eric Stott

they are just trying to hide the problems with lace…

  • FibonacciSequins

Char is sounding like someone who’s going to be auf’ed.

  • Jacob Bowen

I want Char as MY hair stylist (even though I LOVE my current hair stylist)!

  • blondie65

leather and lace….where are Stevie & Don?

    • Sherilyne Cox

I’m glad somebody finally said it.

  • Qitkat

I swear everytime I hear that Venus commercial, what I do hear is “I’m your PENIS”

    • Eric Stott

      “and Vagina!”

      • DollyMadisonWI

Now I REALLY won’t get that out of my head.

    • Jacob Bowen

Are you sure you aren’t listening with MY ears!? “I’m your fire, your desire” fits PERFECTLY after that phrase..

    • Munchkn

Damn! I thought I was the only one!

    • DollyMadisonWI

Oh, great. Now I’ll never get that out of my head.

  • Courtney

I’m almost intrigued enough by the idea of Adrien Brody as Houdini to watch. Though I wonder if it were really any good, would it be on Lifetime?

    • Chinotto

Is it Lifetime or History channel? Looks cool.

      • Frank_821

        History channel I thought

      • Courtney

        Either way, really.

      • Fashion Is Spinach

History (but part of the Lifetime family of fine entertainment).

    • Eric Stott

I think they’re going to sex it up a lot

      • Frank_821

I wonder how it will compare to the one w/ Paul Michael Glaser and Sally Struthers

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I don’t think Houdini needs sexing up. I think he did it on his own.

    • Angela_the_Librarian

It’s going to be on the History Channel, but I don’t know if that necessarily mean better quality

      • Courtney

Probably not, no. Though I do love me a hyper-dramatic History Channel re-enactment. I teach history, and their French Revolution documentary from a few years ago may be one of the best for that, followed closely by Russia: Land of the Tsars.

        • Angela_the_Librarian

I got fed up with History channel when they became the network of pawn shops and ice truckers (even worse than the non-stop WW2 documentaries)

          • Courtney

We remind our students of this when cautioning them against using the History Channel website for their research papers.

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Isn’t that kind of like using Wikipedia?

          • Courtney

They’re not allowed to do that, either. 🙂

But yeah, everything on the HC site is so oversimplified as to be basically useless. It’s not forbidden, but it is discouraged.

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

            At least those were documentaries.

    • Paula Carr

I know they almost never go for a close resemblance when casting these biopics, but knowing what the real Houdini looked like (short, stocky, curly haired) I know I’d be bugged by Brody’s looks.

  • Jacob Bowen

    Char’s shades are SICK!

  • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Fade is not buying Fetch’s whining.

I love Fade. I didn’t expect to, but I do.

    • alula_auburn

I’m definitely getting a “smile and nod” vibe from him when she’s trying to get him engaged in her dramaz. And I love it.

  • Eric Stott

How many accessory companies has this show burned through?

    • Fashion Is Spinach

And where do you go from Aldo?

      • Chattygal

        Dollar Tree.

      • alula_auburn

        Claire’s?

      • Munchkn

        Payless? Pic n Pay?

      • Mrs David Tennant

        TJ Maxx?

        • Eric Stott

          Bonnie Belle

        • FibonacciSequins

          KMart, then TJ Maxx.

      • Slade Thunderdragon

        Goodwill

      • tinyredlocks

        Sears

      • pdquick

        Discount Shoe Warehouse.

    • Chattygal

I think it’s about seven. I looked it up once to chart the decline and it gave me a sad.

  • FibonacciSequins

Sandhya’s yellow dress looks a lot better than Char’s yellow dress, I think.

  • alula_auburn

No one has ever suffered as much as Amanda, you guys.

    • Fashion Is Spinach

      Except Korina.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

      HANDCUT fringe!

  • Jacob Bowen

Project Runway just tweeted, “So, less gossip and more design? We like the sounds of that.”
    BAHAHAHAHAHA!

    • BuffaloBarbara

The make it happen! I mean, come on… they’re the boss!

      • Jacob Bowen

I responded with, “isn’t that the opposite attitude of your producers? Isn’t Amanda still here FOR the gossip…?”

    • muzan-e

… safe in the knowledge that they never have to let that actually happen. 🙂

  • Kaonashi

Does anyone else remember Dita’s wedding dress when she got married to Marilyn Manson? It was non-traditional and she looked gorgeous in it.

    • susan6

I googled that after Korina mentioned it. Stunning.

    • marlie

They showed it in the very beginning when they told them what the challenge was. It was stunning.

  • Eric Stott

    CORNCOB—-YES YES YES

    • Sherilyne Cox

It’s like hybrid corn and it’s destroying my corneas.

  • Qitkat

Amanda now thinks she and fade are besties.

    • Eric Stott

I hear the bus coming- she’d better get ready to be thrown

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Fade won’t be doing the throwing.

  • FibonacciSequins

I take back what I said about Sandhya’s dress. That skirt is no bueno.

    • Kimbolina

      Neither is the top…

      • FibonacciSequins

I liked it okay when it was all I saw.

    • housefulofboys

      …but it’s still better than Char’s, I think.

  • Courtney

    Why didn’t you, then?

    • Mrs David Tennant

      My exact comment!

  • Sandhya’s dress looked a lot better when she showed it to Tim, before she turned it into a half-eaten corn cob

    • Eric Stott

That hand made lace turned out more crafty than coture

      • Yeah, the draped skirt looked beautiful. I can’t stand the top. I get her influences/aesthetic, but I think some of her stuff looks like student work

    • nosniveling

      Big Bird in da house!

      • Courtney

That’s Big Bird’s sad, copyright violating, knockoff cousin.

  • Qitkat

Oh no is Amanda going to sabotage Korina’s pants?

    • Courtney

I think we need to be working in past tense, there.

    • Frank_821

Part of me hopes she did it on purpose…that would be too rich

    • ShaoLinKitten

Can’t wait to see her show them what a phony really looks like. “Oh what? Did I did it on purpose? Nooooo…. How could you say that? Nooo!”

    • Qitkat

They looked okay coming down the runway. Much ado about nuttin.

      • sundaynightaddict

Looked a hell of a lot better than that awful jacket that took Korina TWO DAYS.

  • So far Kini is the only one who designed something for the ceremony that reads ceremony.

  • alula_auburn

Kini, so catty! Don’t be that way.

  • Chinotto

Oh, Korinna, don’t blame your lame tuxedo jacket fail on someone else. I know Amanda isn’t popular here, but she’s the only reason Korinna’s model won’t be nude from the waist down.

    • TDSE

Not a fan of Fetch, but this is sooooo true.

    • BuffaloBarbara

Exactly. No Amanda fan here, but Korina’s the one who screwed up in this instance.

    • scoobysnacks

Not the point. Total sabotage. Sabotaging someone isn’t deserving of a ‘you’re welcome’ from Amanda, bottomless model or no otherwise.

      • FibonacciSequins

You think Amanda sabotaged Korina by deliberately making the pants too small?

        • scoobysnacks

She could’ve made an effort to actually find out the model’s measurements. She just sorta made them for her model probably and didn’t even think about who’d be wearing them. It’s either sabotage or idiotic on Amanda’s part.

          • Frank_821

I dont think it’s not so much about being idiotic or sabtoage exactly. But I do think the sudden tension between them contributed to it

          • FibonacciSequins

I need to rewind and watch that part again after this ends. I wasn’t watching closely enough. I think if you offer to make something for your teammate because they’re short on time, you should do your best. But Korina also should have scheduled her time more wisely.

        • BuffaloBarbara

I think it’s more than possible, but I still think that the blame is Korina’s.

        • EveEve

No way. They were snug, but not so snug they couldn’t be altered to fit perfectly for the runway. Sabotage would have been two inches too short, puckered seams, stained, broken zipper, etc.

      • Yeah I read the situation as sabotage too. She totally had the “oh well” attitude in the confessional. I dunno if I entirely hate her for it

      • MilaXX

I agree.I think Amanda did some passive aggressive sabotage there. Yes Korina bit off more than she could chew, but Amanda screwed the pooch on this.

    • Frank_821

NO kidding. If Korina didn’t come across so judgemental mean girl bitchy from the first episode, I’d probably feel some sympathy for her. And it’s clear if Korina hadn’t snapped at her like that, Amanda probably been more willingly to help her out

      • scoobysnacks

Oh I’m not team anybody. They both suck.

    • EveEve

“I don’t have time to make the pants.”
“I will make them for you if you want.”
      “OK”
      “They don’t fit”
But, I didn’t know what the model looked like”
“I should have made them myself.”

    • EveEve

If you want something done right, do it yourself.

The pants Amanda whipped up might have been too tight, but not by much. Maybe a half in on each seam? C’mon, that isn’t sabotage, that’s pretty damn close – close enough OBVIOUSLY to alter in time for the runway. And the jacket was lame. I would have put her in the bottom, but I liked Amands’s dress well enough.

  • nosniveling

    love Fade’s dress- FTW!

  • BuffaloBarbara

Is Korina seriously kvetching about the pants that she didn’t make time to make not being made right?

    • DollyMadisonWI

Here’s an idea Korina: don’t tell someone to their face that you think they’re phony and maybe it won’t blow back on you.

  • FibonacciSequins

Seeing Emily’s dress just now, it looks like something you’d wear to a funeral.

  • Mrs David Tennant

There are no white dresses – which one looks like a toilet paper accident?

    • I hate the same thought. Isn’t the toilet paper joke already done though? Michael Kors back when Banana Republic was still involved

    • BuffaloBarbara

My guess, the Korina suit… something to do with the zipper fix.

    • Eric Stott

there is such a thing as colored toilet paper….though its politically incorrect now

    • Courtney

The maroon one, maybe? It’s got a light applique.

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

Fade reminds me of my friend, Petra, who doesn’t really understand English, but listens enthusiastically and then offers advice like, “Keep your feets on the grass! Love will peek to you from bushes!”

    • ShaoLinKitten

Fade is adorable. He’s the one I’m rooting for this season.

    • FibonacciSequins

      Your friend sounds really cute.

  • Qitkat

I don’t know how some of you type so fast and not miss any of the workroom snark; I can barely keep up, and keep missing stuff.

    • Jacob Bowen

I don’t understand how everyone can watch so closely and type all of this…I try to (unsuccessfully) watch TLo’s Twitter too and I feel like I’ve run a marathon by the time it’s over!

      • MilaXX

My favorite thing is to live tweet shows. I

        • Jacob Bowen

Me too! I have just discovered it in the past year! I LOVE watching the Oscars with 2 computers and my ipad while eating pizza and watching Red Carpet coverage ALL DAY beforehand!

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

            You’re amazing!

          • MilaXX

            That is me!

          • MilaXX

If you watch The Strain, we live tweet that as well. Use hashtag #DatStrain

    • FibonacciSequins

      Same.

    • Courtney

Practice. And too many years of keyboarding in high school. I don’t need to look to type.

      • housefulofboys

I’m a super fast keyboarder, but I just don’t think that fast!

      • Qitkat

Maybe it’s different on an iPad, it hangs up on me or creatively changes words.

  • dash1211

Our uncles just tweeted, Most underrated this season —-> fade

    • Kimbolina

      AMEN.

    • FibonacciSequins

I think that’s the consensus here.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Are they doing Fan Favorite this season? Can we muster the Bitter Kitten legions from legarthy?

    • LAMusing

Loved Fade’s dress. I want it!

  • This open thread is the best part of watching Project Runway

  • scoobysnacks

Let’s be honest, Korina’s fate was sealed the minute she was just doing that top. Even if it was good, the judges were gonna be all ‘mm hmm’ at her level of contribution.

  • Jacob Bowen

Ewwww that jacket/shirt/bowtie combo is NOT my favorite Posen.

  • scoobysnacks

Did they just call that girl the “blonde salad”?

    • Jacob Bowen

      That’s what I heard, too!

    • MilaXX

      That’s her website name.

  • I hate the word “alternative.” What’s “normal” – white dress symbolizing my purity in a Christian church?

  • Eric Stott

    Kini- Goth Gift wrapping

    • Chinotto

It also fits Nina’s toilet paper roll comment 🙁

  • Swiftlytiltingplanet

    Wow. I like Kini’s.

  • Frank_821

    I actually liked Sean’s more than Kini’s

  • Slade Thunderdragon

Sean Kelly sent casper down the runway!

  • scoobysnacks

Just say no to teen vloggers on PR.

  • FibonacciSequins

Kini’s looks kind of tight to me. Not the fit, the design.

    • Eric Stott

      under the ruffle – basic

      • FibonacciSequins

Yes, a basic ladies’ suit. And not a comfortable one.

  • Fashion Is Spinach

    What is that, lichen?

  • Slade Thunderdragon

    Love Samantha!

  • I don’t understand the logic behind the oxblood and dirty white – who wants to look like a used tampon?

    • alula_auburn

Glad it wasn’t just me! I was thinking I’d have liked it a lot better in a different color.

    • Theresa Q

Oh did you go there? I wasn’t even thinking that and now I can’t get it out of my head.

    • housefulofboys

That was a really unappealing color combination.

    • MilaXX

      Exactly. That dress was hiddy.

  • Fashion Is Spinach

“I know I’m not going home for that”–ironic foreshadowing?

  • Slade Thunderdragon

Korina’s model looks ready to board the SS Shit.

  • Swiftlytiltingplanet

    No. Korinna. No.

  • FibonacciSequins

    Poor construction, Korina.

    Tacked-down handmade fringe, Amanda.

    • She made fringe again???? (I am at work.)

      • Frank_821

no she did not make fringe. she promsied Tim she wouldn’t do that

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

          Yeah, she kind of did.

      • FibonacciSequins

Long strips tacked to the dress from neckline to hem.

      • Courtney

        In triangle form.

    • alula_auburn

Amanda’s seemed a touch short to me, or maybe just oddly cut right near the crotch.

      • Jacob Bowen

I was thinking the same thing!

        • alula_auburn

I wouldn’t want to stand at the altar worrying I was going to flash the officiant. Maybe I’m not rock n’ roll.

      • FibonacciSequins

I need to look at it again, I was staring at the fringe. lol

  • Courtney

Even if Korinna’s had been impeccable, there’s maybe like 3 people in the world it would look good on.

    • Chinotto

That shiny white fabric is really tacky.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

        It looked like lining fabric.

  • scoobysnacks

    Fade, I love you.

  • Slade Thunderdragon

    Emily’s is so shitty
    Fade’s is so good

  • Swiftlytiltingplanet

You know, Amanda, just because you would totally wear it doesn’t mean it’s good.

    • Yeah, the phrase “i know lots of girls who would wear this” doesn’t count, considering you’re bound to know/befriend people who have similar taste

  • blondie65

    Again…love Fades….

  • Fashion Is Spinach

    Nina keeps swallowing hard.

  • Man, this is some of the stiffest modeling

    • GoryDetails

I think the Team Yellow models are afraid of either tripping or of having parts of the outfit fall off!

    • sundaynightaddict

I marvel each week at how bad some of these models are. Sandyha’s model, in particular, walks like she is one of those old department store mannequins that had a pole running up the back to keep them from falling.

      • Maybe legitimate modeling agencies don’t send their models to Project Runway anymore. The hours seem very long and I can’t imagine that the compensation (is there any? they’re not really competing for anything anymore) is worth it for a modeling agency

  • Mrs David Tennant

    Char’s is bad.

  • Frank_821

    oh Char

  • Courtney

Oh, that face that Nina made at Char’s.

    • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

Heidi has a pretty good poker face.

  • Theresa Q

Why is Sandhya’s model not selling it? You still have your own competition too!

    • GTrain

she could barely walk in it

    • Eric Stott

That dress looks like one of those one size fits all gowns where the bodice is gathered up with elastic.

  • Cele Deemer

Shar’s looks like a bunch of toilet paper

  • Peeve

I think I know who has the toilet paper accident, Char.

  • Kimbolina

I’m shocked that they didn’t talk to those two, just for the drama.

  • blondie65

    Worried for Char…

    • MilaXX

Should be they are my choice for the auf and I don’t care which one goes. Char has been a disappointment to me. I had hoped she’d do better.

  • Swiftlytiltingplanet

What the actual fuck?! That shit-show is SAFE?!

    • MilaXX

They haven’t finished milking out the drama from Amanda yet.

      • EveEve

        Xactly

  • MilaXX

    Okay here we go.
    Sean/Kini : Kini’s – “meh”, Sean’s – I like
Fade/Emily: Emily – I like, Fade – Nice, I really like and could imagine a real grown up wearing
Char/Sandhya: Sandhya – Custome-y, Char – Bleech (bottom team not because of color, but because the designs aren’t polished or finished looking.
Amanda/Korina: Korina – meh, Amanda’s – Cute, but a bit Teen’s choice. reminds me of the dress JLo wore today
    Sam/Alexander : Alexander -YUCK, Sam’s Okay

    • Jacob Bowen

I definitely liked Fade/Emily’s the best. I hope we get a better look at her dress (the quick look I got seemed promising) and Fade’s custom textile was quite interesting!

    • EveEve

Char and Sandhya are at the bottom I fear. Hard to say which is going home, but Char’s was a hot mess.

      • Jacob Bowen

I think Char is going home, which is exciting because we’ll actually get a full collection from Sandhya!

        • FibonacciSequins

I don’t mind if Char goes home. She seems like a lovely person, but I haven’t been impressed by her work.

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

And the frequent matching pink earrings and lipstick concerns me.

          • sundaynightaddict

There was some early promise in weeks one/two, but it quickly went downhill.

  • alula_auburn

All that dram for safe? Whatever.

Sandhya’s and Char’s remind me of the Rose Petal Place dolls I had. /80s kid

  • Angela_the_Librarian

Emily and Fade for the win!

  • GTrain

I’d be happy w/ Kini/Sean or Fade/Emily for the win

  • Sherilyne Cox

Wait…what?? Did somebody just copy Heidi’s dress?

  • BuffaloBarbara

I can deal with the yellow, but the designs on those dresses were TERRIBLE.

    • MilaXX

Agreed. I don’t have an issue with the color, I have an issue with how unfinished and raggedy the dresses look. I hate to see what happens when they go look at them up close.

      • Eric Stott

The close look segment is one of the only good things that has happened to the show

  • MilaXX

My choice for win Emily/Fade and I would give it to Fade.

  • Courtney

Are the teams yoked here, or could one team have the winning and losing look?

    • Chinotto

      Usually yoked, no?

      • Courtney

Yeah, but there’s been a lot of crack this season.

    • I think yoked.

    • Kimbolina

I think Heidi said one from the team with the best look will win and one from the team with the worst look will lose so they’re yoked.

  • Slade Thunderdragon

Samantha or Fade should win the challenge.
I’d have eliminated Korina, but for some reason she and Amanda are in the middle?
I think Char’s is the other worst one.

but I think all teams have one good and one bad one.

    • Frank_821

I agree. The quality level is unbalanced for each team.

Amanda/Korina are safe only becuase Amanda made a cute cocktail dress with interesting fabrication. If that had been made into a full gown for the wedding with a good version of the suit for the recpetion they might have been in the upper two

  • cocococo

HOW WAS THE PANTSUIT SAFEEEEE? HOOOOOOW?

    • Chattygal

All that manufactured drama for nuttin’.

  • blondie65

Fade is finally going to get feedback from the judges…let’s hope it is for the win!

  • Jacob Bowen

Oh she ends up in Japan?!?!

    • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

      Best part!

    • MilaXX

When she said that I thought of that horror move The Grudge.

    • That was the dumbest story

  • FibonacciSequins

An introvert would not wear Fade’s dress.

    • alula_auburn

I’d pick it over the Goth gown.

/broke the introversion scale on my Meyer-Briggs

  • blondie65

    thank you Heidi!

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

Oh, goddess, the stories they make up about “their girl”.

    • wontons

Reminds me of Angela and her fleurchons…I can’t remember her crazy story about the craft shop or boarding school or whatever. Fancy Feasts?

      • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

She was a camp counselor at “Jubilee Jumbles”.

    • DollyMadisonWI

I think that the more specific the designers are about the girl, where she’s going, what effect she wants to have, etc., the better the designs. The goth thing may not have been to most people’s taste but at least it fit with the story they were telling.

      • sundaynightaddict

Except I’m pretty sure they make up that huge narrative right before they go to the runway lol

  • FibonacciSequins

    Of course you would, Heidi.

  • Of course Heidi, who wears pink mini skirts, is calling the cliche “goth”

  • Jacob Bowen

OF COURSE you would drop the neckline lower, Heidi!

  • Kimbolina

    HAHH, Heidi wants more cleavage.

    • Chattygal

      “Where is the cleavage????”

      • DollyMadisonWI

It’s Heidi’s version of “Give my daughter the shot!!!”.

        • Chattygal

          Pfffffffffffffft, that’s brilliant!!!!

  • Chinotto

“I would have dropped that neckline lower.” Well of course you would …

  • Fashion Is Spinach

Fade’s dress isn’t sexy enough for Heidi.

    • alula_auburn

I thought the pattern/color had a gorgeous illusion aspect, myself.

      • Fashion Is Spinach

        So did I.

  • FibonacciSequins

Agree that the sleeves and the hood together are too much.

    • MilaXX

I kinda like it but it needs editing. Lose the hood and make the sleeves a normal length

      • FibonacciSequins

That would make it a lot better.

  • Jacob Bowen

What?!?! So are Fade/Emily on the bottom, or top? Assuming top…

    • Kimbolina

I have no idea from that critique.

      • FibonacciSequins

        I’m at a loss too.

      • Chinotto

I think it’s a split. So they’ll be safe and probably Sharq for the auf-?

    • Courtney

      Probably the unspecified middle.

    • Mrs David Tennant

      Yeah, I couldn’t tell either.

  • Eric Stott

Insane Crotch Alert on those “Tux”pants

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Is it the crotch or the fabric?

  • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Once again, I want Fade’s shirt.

    • wontons

I want a piece of clothing made by Fade. I haven’t even extended that fantasy to Googling what it would cost. But the stuff he does with fabric–it’s that rare and specific creativity we don’t see often enough on PR these days. More like something Santino or Leanne or Jay would have done.

      • Pril Wood

Fade is the best example of an “artist” type who can actually design clothing that the show has had. Most of the textile-focused designers end up making clothes that look too “crafty” without much tailoring finesse –Sandhya included. Fade has both skills along with excellent taste. However, I will faint into my coffee (I watch online, morning after show) if Fade actually wins, even though I am 100% team Fade. I just can’t see him winning unless they are giving him a major stealth edit.

  • Dita kind of looks disgusted with everything, and I don’t really blame her.

    • DollyMadisonWI

I’m not sure if it’s disgust or she just can’t move her face.

  • GTrain

Nina’s commentary is just not moving me this season. I expect more from a Fashion Director with that many years of experience

    • Courtney

You can only bang your head against the brick wall of the producers for so long before giving up.

    • Eric Stott

she’s played out by this time

    • Agnes Gooch

I am thoroughly not impressed with Nina this season, nor with the Twitter dialogue going on with her right now.

  • Kimbolina

Aww, that was nice of Sean saying Kini should win.

  • Fashion Is Spinach

I’d wear Dita’s dress. (That was a backhanded endorsement from Sean.)

  • Mrs David Tennant

    Rock star’s daughtter. Bleah.

    • GTrain

that came out of nowhere, right? I don’t remember it from their brainstorm

      • Gatto Nero

        Desperation.

    • alula_auburn

Nothing about that was rock star. Not even the color. Maybe some kind of daffodil-crazed mad scientist. . .

  • Fashion Is Spinach

“Married in yellow/Ashamed of the fellow.”

    • Is that a real saying? Because I want to know if there are any other rhymes about wedding colors.

      • martha

“Married in black, you’ll wish yourself back”

        • BuffaloBarbara

Married in blue, your love is true.

          • FibonacciSequins

Married in red, wish yourself dead.

      • BuffaloBarbara

I found this with the colors listed at www dot hobartsprinting do com slash wedding_facts dot php:

Married in White, you have chosen right,
Married in Blue, your love will always be true,
Married in Pearl, you will live in a whirl,
Married in Brown, you will live in town,
Married in Red, you will wish yourself dead,
Married in Yellow, ashamed of your fellow,
Married in Green, ashamed to be seen,
Married in Pink, your spirit will sink,
Married in Grey, you will go far away,
Married in Black, you will wish yourself back.

        • Fashion Is Spinach

So all of last night’s brides would be doomed.

  • GTrain

I feel a Tim Gunn save coming on…

    • FibonacciSequins

I don’t think he should use it on either of them.

      • GTrain

        agreed

      • sundaynightaddict

I like that he acknowledged that he didn’t want to use the save too early this time around.

  • Courtney

If I were a lemon heiress, the last thing I would want to be on my wedding day is dressed in yellow.

Granted, I’m a ruddy-skinned redhead, so yellow is right out, but still…

    • alula_auburn

I think it looks more like a daffodil fancier, anyway. SO Rose Petal Place.

  • Frank_821

Wow. Heidi really nailed! we really don’t see such lengthy commentary

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

So the dresses would be better if we pretended they were for the heiress to the lemon pledge fortune?

    • BuffaloBarbara

That was weird. Mostly, the judging is kind of sane, but that was an oddball comment.

    • Angela_the_Librarian

Coming to the next season of PR!

      • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

“Designers! Don’t forget to use the Lemon Pledge accessory wall!”

        • Stubenville

          Use it strategically.

          • sundaynightaddict

            Thoughtfully.

  • Kimbolina

I love Dita and all but her critiques/commentary are really underwhelming.

    • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

I am disappointed. And she appears to have only one facial expression.

      • alyce1213

        Botox.

        • Stubenville

          Not Parralox, sweetie darling?

          • alyce1213

            Absolutely Fabulous, love.

      • Yeah totally thought she hated one group before she said she loved it

      • Eric Stott

That is her look- part of what makes her interesting, but I think she’s more about looks than deep insight

    • alyce1213

I think she was way off base about Emily and Fade.

      • Gatto Nero

I loved their looks. I know that Emily’s bordered on costume, but it was romantic and dramatic. Fade’s textile treatment was fantastic, and the proportions of the dress were beautiful. And I could see the same woman wearing both looks.

        • alyce1213

Emily’s was truly an unconventional wedding dress, more than any other on the runway. And Fade — goes without saying. I’ve liked everything he’s done. They’re my favorite contestants — my “dream team” (oh Zach, did you really say that?).

  • housefulofboys

I don’t understand how Char spent that much time on a dress and only came up with scraps for the skirt. Puzzling.

    • Janine Williams

      I am wondering that too.

    • FibonacciSequins

      Construction problems with the leather.

      • EveEve

It was evident early on that the choice of leather was wrong. Probably chosen more for the color than the concept. However, instead of abandoning what she had already done, she tried to cover it up with yellow lace. Wrong move. She could simply have turned it into a leather bandeau top and it would have been much cleaner and saved her from the auf.

    • Courtney

Too much committed to the bodice that Tim didn’t like?

  • Chinotto

Is Blonde Lettuce ending all her-uh words-uh with “uh”?

    • Cheryl

      upTALKING?

    • Fashion Is Spinach

      Uh-huh-uh.

    • yes! Awful.

    • marlie

      I think it’s her accent.

    • Like somebody else said, it’s an accept, I’m guessing southern Italian.

      • marlie

I thought French, but she hasn’t really said enough for me to really tell.

        • papillon

I also think she sounds French.

          • alyce1213

Only if she’s from Nice-uh. That’s how they talk.

      • Kimbolina

I just looked it up and she’s Italian. Also, her blog is Blonde Salad. Couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t finding ANYTHING looking up Blonde Lettuce. Hah!

        • Shibori Girl

The cute guy in the apron ( and little else) explaining the difference between olive oils? Loved that ad…laughed until I cried.

        • They’ve been featuring too many bloggers. These people blog for a reason – they may write/edit well, but they aren’t known for their speaking

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I think bloggers are the only guest judges they can get.

          • decormaven

            Bingo.

          • It’s also Project Runway’s demographic/audience. It’s hardly part of the fashion industry, but there’s a large fan base that interacts online and writes and follows blogs

      • marlie

Actually, someone actually did the work to google her and she IS Italian. Good ear!

        • The guy on Extra Virgin (Cooking Channel) has a more pronounced version of that accent and my boyfriend pointed out that he ends is words like that.

      • Gatto Nero

        Northern Italian.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Has she spoken? I hadn’t noticed.

    • blondie65

Yes…I finally had to mute her. If I was not on my third-ish glass of wine, I would have thrown something at the TV.

    • wayout46

      It’s not-ah uptalk-uh, it’s-ah more like-ah the worst-ah affectation-ah. (Laughing hysterically – uh)

  • scoobysnacks

I’ve gotten attached to keeping Sandhya around to stick it to the designers who are hating so hard on her. I need her to stay.

    • Chinotto

Do you think Tim will use his save for her?

      • scoobysnacks

Hmm. I could see it happening if he thinks she’s getting screwed. Not sure that she’d be the one of the two from that team leaving. Char’s was sorta worse.

        • alula_auburn

And I think Heidi likes Sandhya. . .she even tried to compliment the bustier tonight, sort of.

        • Cheryl

Why didn’t she explain that the bright color was inspired by her own wedding dress? Instead of a rock star’s daughter? Or maybe she is a rock star’s daughter.

          • wontons

Her father was a rock star, and her mother was a lemon heiress.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I could back that. And he seems to like her and find her work interesting.

      • housefulofboys

I can definitely see him saving her, but as scooby said, I think Char’s was worse, plus Sandhya’s had 2 wins already so would presumably show more “promise.”

      • nosniveling

well they had 2 eliminations last week, so if they *save* Sandyha it’ll even out the numbers

      • Gatto Nero

I don’t think Tim is as enchanted with Sandhya as the judges seem to be.

    • cocococo

same. i am all sorts of on team Sandhya.

  • Angela_the_Librarian

I’m totally not getting 80s from that dress

  • Kimbolina

Did Nina just say “hashtag throwback Thursday”?? Jesus.

    • marlie

I cringed when she said that.

    • ShaoLinKitten

There have been a lack of witty one liner quips since Kors left. Nina is not able to fill the void.

      • FibonacciSequins

Michael Kors has the delivery of a stand-up comedian.

        • ShaoLinKitten

          I miss his braying cackle.

        • Pril Wood

          Paul Lynde, only snappier.

      • scoobysnacks

I actually went on youtube last week and watched a Best Of on Kors’ quips.

        • alyce1213

          Hysterical.

        • Dhppy

“It looks like a Brady Bunch dashiki.” – Michael Kors – Now, that is descriptive.

    • wontons

We should have a contest to predict what current-to-stale pop culture reference she’ll use/misuse next.

“The model looks like she’s Tebowing!”

  • BuffaloBarbara

This is weirdly solid judging. With actual specific commentary.

    • Maybe the crack pipe got misplaced and they didn’t have time to buy a new one?

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

      Maybe they’re sober?

    • blondie65

I know…I’m wondering if it’s b/c I’ve had too much to drink!!! They are kind of making sense…

  • Janine Williams

Alexander’s and Sam’s look like a Marchesa reject. Like that is on the cutting floor of a Marchesa collection.

  • GoryDetails

Oh, gosh, I didn’t realize that was supposed to be ombre – I thought the darker red was a trick of the light! I did rather like the red dresses, but they are awfully fussy…

    • FibonacciSequins

I had no idea, and they’re right about it just looking like it was wet on the bottom.

  • wayout46

GOD! Only Amanda can produce something that lands her on the safe pile and STILL get more airtime for it than the rest of the contestants put together.

    • Kaonashi

I know it’s not her fault but their constant coverage of her has made me deeply dislike her.

    • scoobysnacks

Gretchen–I mean Amanda—needs to get the placing she deserves the next time she tries to design ugly hippy (not so) chic.

  • GTrain

I’ve not been impressed by Char so far in the competition so I wouldn’t be sad to see her go

  • marlie

I’m so sick and tired of seeing the ad for the Saved by the Bell movie.

    • GTrain

and the red robin burger lady

      • marlie

She doesn’t bother me so much, but I’ve said before that the Wendy’s chick makes me ragey.

        • Pril Wood

I hear ya. That chick is so smarmy and smug I feel unclean and want to punch things after viewing a Wendy’s commercial.

      • pdquick

I’m about ready to stick a fork in her head. BOO-YAH.

    • Courtney

I just want it to air so it can be forgotten. And I loved that show when I was a kid.

    • Chattygal

I must totally zone that out, I don’t think I’ve noticed it once.

  • searm

    Why is Zach so short?

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

      Lack of height?

(Sorry. Sorry. It was just there, and someone had to.)

    • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

      Genes?

    • searm

Perhaps I should have specified – Zack (with the k according to google) Morris. haha

      • Lisa_Co

No K. I have a dress of his. Just Zac.

        • wayout46

Zaca, with an a at the end. Love, The Blogger Lady

        • I think they are discussing the saved by the bell memoir movie commercial.

        • searm

No, Zack Morris. From Saved By the Bell. They played a commercial for the Lifetime movie.

    • papillon

I think all of the kids look much younger than the original cast and Zack’s hair just looks so big and stiff.

  • wayout46

I am in stitches listening to the blogger speak-ah.

    • blondie65

I am simply in need of more wine if I have to listen to her much longer!!

    • alyce1213

      Where is she from?

      • From her website: Chiara Ferragni was born in Cremona in 1987.

    • Dhppy

“About the short dressa. It’s too shorta. It’s too tight and trasparenta.” What I thought was a 1940’s film sterotype of an Italian accent was true all along.

  • Janine Williams

“That top of that dress needed to be sexier the boobs aren’t all outside” See the Heidi we know and love is back from her “Pretend I have taste” time warp they shove her in once a season.

    • pdquick

^^^ Funniest comment of the thread. Well done.

  • GoryDetails

OK, I just grabbed a bowl of Southern Lemon Pie ice cream (by Turkey Hill), so now I’m fortified for what might be an infuriating elimination. Bring it on!

    • alula_auburn

      that sounds delicious!

    • housefulofboys

Is it yellow? Do you know something that we don’t?

      • GoryDetails

Heh! It’s not nearly THAT yellow.

    • Chattygal

Holy cow, I just bought that for the first time but haven’t tried it yet. After the Lemon Heiress remark, I feel inspired.

  • Chinotto

Tim is a gentleman. Look under the model’s skirt? “I do not care to.”

  • Sarah

“…design an accessory for Red Robin associates?” What the hell kind of prize is that??

  • papillon

Char’s dress is really terrible this week and it looks similar to the one she made last week in terms of the silhouette.

    • Gatto Nero

She defaults to that random drapey, piece-y effect a lot. It creates volume in weird places.

  • Eric Stott

I love these rip to shreds segments

    • BuffaloBarbara

I know. That’s the one good innovation they’ve made in the last few years.

      • Eric Stott

Back in Season 7 it was almost shocking when Kors left his seat to feel the fabric on Anthony’s gown- “This is POLYESTER!!” They very seldom saw anything close up. It has been revealing – finding that something which looked sewn was just pinned and taped.

  • Mrs David Tennant

I feel bad for the models.

    • Paula Carr

      Zac is SO handsy.

  • Qitkat

Nobody this season can drape worth a damn, not even a skirt.

  • scoobysnacks

    Nooo, Sandhya. Must stay.

  • Eric Stott

    A Big Oy Vey

  • My boyfriend just made a point about the Red Robin accessory, “They could make so many pieces of flair.”

I immediately thought, “You know who else had pieces of flair? Nazis.”

    • Angela_the_Librarian

But you do want to express yourself?!

    • scoobysnacks

I would’ve died if the designers had told the judges they were inspired by looking out the window because they “could see the squirrels, and they were married.”

      • AnneElliot

I was really hoping for penguins, but I’ve been binge-watching Parks and Recreation. There was a hilarious episode in season 2 when Leslie Knope performs a marriage ceremony on two zoo penguins, who are actually both male. Conservatives call for her resignation and for her to annul the penguin marriage.

  • scoobysnacks

    Finally, props to Fade.

    • ShaoLinKitten

Heidi likes him, and to be honest, Heidi is now my favorite judge. She seems the least crack headed and has since The Gretchen Season.

      • Well, isn’t she herself a producer? She pretty much has leave to say whatever she wants.

      • sundaynightaddict

She’s also the most natural tv persona in the group. I always feel like she’s saying exactly what’s on her mind and injecting just enough snark and facial expression.

  • Courtney

If fashion people are going to compare dresses to prom dresses, they need to actually go to a prom and see what the kids wear. Ain’t no kid I teach would be caught dead in either of those dresses.

  • Peeve

What the hell kinda prom did the blogger girl go to?

  • The blogger – she’s… french?

    • Chinotto

      Italian. Or Italian-ah

      • Yeah, I was between French and Italian. So close.

    • Cheryl

      Chiara Ferrigna

      • Cheryl

        Ferragni

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

          Ferengi?

  • nosniveling

please don’t let the blogger girl speak? ever again? driving me up the wall?

    • FibonacciSequins

I think you mean, “driving me up the wall-ah”

    • scoobysnacks

The girl from last week bothered me more.

    • Courtney

Our previous priest had the opposite problem – everything ended on a down note.

    • Sarah

And WTF with the nasty look on her face? Bad milk for dinner?

    • blondie65

      I need more wine-ah.

    • wontons

Is she from France and a fan of REO Speedwagon?

      • Gatto Nero

Italian, judging by her name. And she couldn’t express herself very well in English. Why did they need a fourth judge? They had freakin’ Dita von Teese!

  • Fashion Is Spinach

And Dita knows from rock-‘n’-roll weddings.

  • Agnes Gooch

Am I misremembering that the precis for this challenge was that it was for an alternative wedding??

    • FibonacciSequins

      No, you’re not misremembering.

      • Cheryl

<<<<< At this point a white foofy dress could be alternative.

  • SouthernGirlRena

I just want to remind them that the models are actual human people. The way the lift their skirts and feel fabric right on their boobs I swear they forget the clothes are not on hangers. Does anyone else want to swat their hands away?

    • I got treated that way being judged at an anime convention’s cosplay contest. And they did this in front of all the other contestants too. At least it was backstage instead of in front of the audience.

    • FibonacciSequins

I think the models are used to that.

    • Eric Stott

Clothes models used to be called mannequins – and I guess they really are here.

    • housefulofboys

Especially in front of the…dozens…of people who watch PR every Thursday.

      • There are dozens of us! DOZENS!

    • MilaXX

I felt bad when they were examining Char’s dress and pretty much flashing the model’s butt.

    • Gatto Nero

It’s true. But given that models are practically naked during fittings, and given what they are wearing (and not wearing) on runways these days, it seems that this is just understood to be part of the job.

    • swanpride

They are used to that. It’s part of the job.

    • Being a runway model is essentially being a walking mannequin. The handling comes with the job.

  • Chinotto

But didn’t Kini do the white top, too??

    • FibonacciSequins

Yes but the judges don’t know that.

      • scoobysnacks

I’m hoping they do and we just don’t see it on the edit.

        • FibonacciSequins

          Me too.

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Because Ass Passion didn’t confess and Troll Doll is too nice to say so.

        • Cheryl

How did my Sean get that nickname? I love my Sean.

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

            A mis-read of a comment a couple weeks back.

          • Lisa_Co

I love him, too. My fav since the beginning with that dress that looked like Narcisco Rodriguez. Kini and fade round out my top 3.

    • carolclark12

Yes, and he was grousing that Sean didn’t give him credit. Don’t know why he didn’t say it himself.

      • alyce1213

He kind of started to talk about his idea for the top, but Sean took over and pretty much took credit for the entire outfit.

        • chubby ballerina

Sean designed it – Kini was just the seamstress (is there a male version of seamstress?). I think Kini was being a bit of a child about it, to tell the truth. Designers have other people sew their designs all the time, but the design belongs to them.

          • Gatto Nero

            Exactly.

          • alyce1213

Of course designers have other people sew their designs in real life, but this is a competition. Sean would have had a beautiful pair of pants and no top walk down the runway if his teammate Kini hadn’t done the sewing and saved his ass. Same for Amanda and Korina, although Amanda cut the pants small (sabotage?). I’m no Amanda fan, and her dress was a big ol’ nothing, but Korina would have had a jacket and no pants without her help. I was amazed that Korina got through — she’s lucky there was much worse.

    • Gatto Nero

He sewed it, but it was Sean’s design.

      • AnneElliot

I think it might have swayed the judges in Kini’s favor if they’d known he made the dress AND sewed the top for Sean. Sean spent the entire day on one pair of pants.

  • What the hell is Zach’s cummerbund/waistcoat thing?

  • Eric Stott

Kini is getting overpraised, but he’s better than most by sheer contrast

    • MilaXX

Yup, he’s the best of the worst. Although if Emily hadn’t designed for The Grudge, I think that team had a good chance.

      • KathyfromAustin

Why in hell she didn’t do 3/4 sleeves?

      • KathyfromAustin

Her model looked like a vampire.

    • swanpride

I think Kini has amazing sewing abilities…but his designing abilities, I doubt.

  • myristica_fragrans

    nina, please!

  • Courtney

All the judges forgot the challenge. 🙂

  • Kimbolina

This Mary Kay commercial guy is doing that scream-talking thing like Oxy-Clean Billy Mays.

  • ShaoLinKitten

When did Heidi become the sanest, most fair minded, accurate judge? I find myself agreeing with her 90% of the time over Zac and Nina–especially Nina. I have no idea how she looks herself in the mirror anymore.

    • Chinotto

Nina has devolved into just generic bitchiness. Phoning it in.

      • Eric Stott

Kors did a smart thing leaving when he did

        • Courtney

I bet he knows it, too. I doubt he’d ever come back.

          • Gatto Nero

He won’t. His design business is booming.

      • ShaoLinKitten

Actively purveying BS is more like it.

    • blondie65

I know!! I feel like we have crossed over to the Twilight Zone. More Heidi, Less Nina. Cue music and slow fade to black. The end.

  • MilaXX

So Kini finally gets his win.

    • Eric Stott

Sometimes the one who gets praised in the edit doesn’t get it…..but you’re probably right

    • FibonacciSequins

I hope so. He deserves it this week.

  • Theresa Q

They’re praising Sean for the shirt but Kini designed it. Irony at its best.

    • wayout46

Didn’t Sean design it? Kini certainly sewed it, but the whole outfit was a Sean creation – he still should have given props to Kini for helping him out, and not just let it at “oh he deserves a win because he hasnt won yet”

    • Gatto Nero

Sean designed it; Kini sewed it.

  • Janine Williams

All the dresses look so bad. Sean and Kini’s look like a bull fighter and his chimney sweep.
    Char and Sandhya big bird.

  • FibonacciSequins

Kini, let this be a lesson to you. Speak up next time.

    • BuffaloBarbara

Exactly. The party outfit was outstanding, and the judges assumed it was all Sean. Ergo, win.

Sean should have spoken up, too.

      • KathyfromAustin

Sean did, though. He said Kini should get the honors. But you’re right that important details were left out. Maybe Tim is keeping his powder dry for better designers.

        • jif

But Sean neglected to mention that Kini made the top… Lying by omission, you know?

          • chubby ballerina

Sean designed the top, which makes it his. Kini may have sewn it, but it’s not his design; even though this was left out of the judging, it wouldn’t have mattered. Kini helped him execute it, but Sean created the winning look.

      • sundaynightaddict

Sean should have definitely thrown some credit his way. I’m sure it would have been hard for Kini to work it into the conversation that he did the top, without coming off like he was throwing Sean under the bus a little or being petty. And then when Sean gloats into the workroom all “Two in a row!” – ugh. That was a little hard to watch.

  • scoobysnacks

    Son of a—

  • Kimbolina

Oh man, cue more drama with Kini from here on out.

  • GTrain

    oh SNAP…

  • Eric Stott

Sean’s was nice – but the winner??????

    • Qitkat

I thought it was a snooze.

  • ShaoLinKitten

So Sean wins for a middling pair of pants. WTF.

    • Chinotto

They made even the tiny model look like she had a tummy

      • ShaoLinKitten

Do you feel like the judges actually did know that Kini made the shirt, but gave Sean the win to create drama? Or am I too cynical?

        • Gatto Nero

I don’t think they knew. (At least based on the edit.)

  • MilaXX

wait, Sean got the win? Okay. more drama ensuing as Kini passive aggresives he made that top.

    • scoobysnacks

Should make for some fun drama next week.

    • Guest

They even made the tiny model look like she had a tummy

  • Chinotto

“Couldn’t do it without him [designing 1/2 my outfit]”

    • wayout46

He sewed 1/2 the outfit but Sean designed the whole concept

  • Agnes Gooch

    Yes, you were robbed, Kini.

  • Angela_the_Librarian

Oohhh..that’s going to cause some trouble!

  • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Shouldn’t they be done with immunity?

And now it really sucks that no mentioned that Kini made the shirt!

  • marlie

    Kini should have won.

  • blondie65

    Well..at least Fade is in!

    • Gatto Nero

I loved Fade’s dress. The fabric treatment was superb.

  • susan6

Kini wuz robbed. See ya, Char.

    • MilaXX

Kini should have opened his mouth and said he made that shirt.

      • wayout46

He should have; though it was still Sean’s design

        • MilaXX

Yes, but it may have balanced the scales a bit more because it meant Kini’s time management skills were better than Sean’s.

  • scoobysnacks

    Phfew.

  • Jacob Bowen

YES, Sandhya is making a collection!

    • Qitkat

Of course, the judges/producers were totally making their decision based on that.

  • papillon

No surprise there. Char hasn’t made anything memorable or interesting up until now.

    • Courtney

I liked her as an individual, but she wasn’t a very memorable designer.

      • papillon

She seemed nice enough but I always felt like I barely saw her outside of the runway show. I can’t even say I know what her personality is like.

    • Eric Stott

Her personal style was better than her work

    • scoobysnacks

I’ve thought she had taste issues in the past so I figured it was a matter of time.

  • marlie

I don’t have a problem with Char being auffed. She seemed to have fairly good ideas, but she always failed in the execution.

    • martha

I hate the one day challenges!

  • BuffaloBarbara

You know, I like Char, but I actually think it was the right call. Both dresses were awful, but hers was worse by a nose.

    • FibonacciSequins

      I’ll miss her personality.

    • nosniveling

EXCEPT that the fabric was all Sandyha

      • FibonacciSequins

I hadn’t thought of that, you’re right. Too bad Char didn’t mention it.

        • Eric Stott

still, it was bad design and worse execution.

          • wayout46

Alexander was right on the money when he said it looked like a nibbled corn cob

        • Gatto Nero

Char has too much dignity to blame her failure on anyone else. Honestly I thought from the start that anyone who was paired with Sandhya would be in danger. She’s very strong willed, and her instincts about color and style are — not good.
I didn’t think that Char would make it to the final three, but on a personal level I’m very sorry to see her go so soon.

      • swanpride

The fabric was only a minor problem in light of the bad construction, though.

  • FibonacciSequins

Oh Tim, why bring that up if you’re not going to save her.

  • Kimbolina

Tim talking about the save, that was kind of awkward.

  • Chattygal

Did Tim just concede his save is about timing (i.e., late in the season)? Or did I misunderstand?

    • marlie

Nope, that’s just what he said. Save someone (better) later in the season.

      • Chattygal

        Yeesh.

      • scoobysnacks

I didn’t take it that way at all. I thought he meant he’d have saved her if this had happened earlier in the season because it would’ve been way too soon to lose her. Still not a great compliment, but it doesn’t make sense to tell her he might have used the save because it was later in the season as opposed to on merit.

        • FibonacciSequins

I thought he meant it the other way.

          • scoobysnacks

Doesn’t seem like a nice thing to say whichever way Tim meant it.

        • marlie

I went back… he said “If this were several challenges from now, I’d save you in a heartbeat.”

    • Gatto Nero

He said that if she’d been eliminated later in the season, he’d have used his save for her — and she seemed comforted by that.
I’m not sure what he meant, exactly, except maybe that she would have had to earn her spot as a top contender by then.
But I’m guessing that if Sean or Fade (for example) had been aufed tonight, Tim might have stepped in.

    • swanpride

Well, naturally it is…the save is for a designer who showed some quality but has a bad day. You need more than a couple of episodes to determine if someone has just a bad day or if the bad day is more on par with the usual performance…plus, as long as there are still so many designers left it is quite a feat to end up in the bottom.

      • Chattygal

Yes, but then perhaps Heidi should stop mentioning it in every challenge from episode one, or qualify it as, “For a designer who makes it to [x] point, they will be eligible for the Tim Gunn Save.”

However, I suspect it’s going to be retroactively applied to Char next Thursday.

  • Courtney

I know Tim’s comment was probably well meant, and seems genuine, but probably not all that great to hear that you just got eliminated too early to be saved.

    • pdquick

That’s the breaks. She was clearly at the bottom this week. He agrees with the choice, which was the obvious one, but he wishes she’d done better and held on until later. There are still some people in who it will be a crime if they’re still in closer to the end. I’m looking at you, Karina.

      • Lisa_Co

Pretty sure he’s saving his save for Kini or Sean.

      • Courtney

I agree with you completely about Korina. I just think Tim’s comment could have been better phrased, that’s all.

  • alula_auburn

Aww, such a huge difference in Tim’s farewell compared to some other people. . .

  • Qitkat

Really Tim? Why would you say that to Char? Not very nice, IMO.

    • EveEve

Unless he intends to change his mind, and decide to save her next week or some future week. I can’t think of any other reason for leaving that comment in. “I would save you, but only if you’d been auf’d in a future episode”???

    • pdquick

Makes sense to me. He wants to save the “save” until closer to the end when it’s clear that the poeple who need to be there are still in. And Char took it in the spirit in which it was offered, graciously.

    • swanpride

Why? He just told her “I really like you, it is just too early in the season to use the safe.” It’s a compliment.

  • MilaXX

Tim pissed me off saying that because it was around this time last season he did the pity save for the guy with the hearing impairment.

  • Fashion Is Spinach

Finally Tim is sorry to see someone go. Char seems like a lovely person; if only she were a better designer.

Korina won’t know what to do with a real emerald, either.

    • scoobysnacks

      lol love that. So true.

    • Cheryl

They all seemed pretty broken up. It just shows that there’s so much happening that we don’t see.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

She certainly won’t recognize the color.

      • EveEve

Ha! Can’t wait to see her color choices next week.

    • wontons

      Ha!

On the one hand, I think Sandhya should have gone home, having been the architect of the color choice. On the other hand, as much as I like Char, I haven’t seen anything notable from her at all, and I guess I’m interested to see whether Sandhya can make something that’s conceptual and actually attractive.

      • Gatto Nero

Sandhya’s conceptual work — her entire creative focus, as far as I can tell — is all about fabric treatment and not actual garment design. She reminds me a lot of Patricia, from a previous season (in focus, not in style). Everything she constructs is pretty basic in terms of shape and silhouette; the only thing that makes them stand out is the dyeing, ripping, weaving, etc. (and the wild choice of color). And I don’t think these effects are even particularly successful in serving the final garment; she seems more interested in the process than the result. Her pieces are idiosyncratic, but I wouldn’t call them innovative or even good designs.

        • JLH

This sums up what I’ve been wanting to post almost verbatim for the past few weeks, I just haven’t because I hadn’t found a way to word it like you have. Thank you for this! 🙂

        • swanpride

That’s exactly what I have been saying from the get go…to Sandhya’s credit, she has a little bit more understanding for using the treatments to her advantage than Patricia had, but all in all I don’t see her putting together a collection someone would actually want to wear.

    • Gatto Nero

      Korina won’t last much longer.

      • Lisa_Co

        Neither will Alexander.

    • Passionflora

Korina = waste of designer space

  • Kimbolina

Did they just show like half of the looks for next week in the promo just now?

    • Jacob Bowen

I was thinking the exact same thing (comment posted as a reply to the above comment on accident…grrr discus)

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

      Yes. And it’s really annoying.

  • bowlwoman

Way to twist the knife, Tim.

Is he saving the save for Amanda in a couple of challenges?

    • Guest

I was thinking the exact same thing!

      • Passionflora

I hope not, but that’s probably what the producers want. Sick, isn’t it?

    • Gatto Nero

I don’t think he’s as crazy about Amanda as the judges are.

  • Eric Stott

conflict alert for next week….lets hope for blood on the catwalk. Good Night Everyone. PLAID!

    • marlie

      G’night!

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Plaid to you as well, my friend.

  • Angela_the_Librarian

On to House Hunters Off the grid!

    • papillon

Is there really a House Hunters Off the Grid? Because I love HH and I would be all about that. I loved Living Alaska!

      • Angela_the_Librarian

Yes, last night there was an Australian couple moving to Bhutan to teach. Instead of looking for homes with granite countertops, stainless appliances, etc. they were looking for a place with running water and electricity. Much more interesting than the typical House Hunters episode.

        • papillon

Oh, I saw that one! They owned a school for girls there, right? They seemed like really nice people.

  • Fashion Is Spinach

For this I missed a “Treehouse of Horror.”

    • Chattygal

Yeah but they’re in the really bad seasons now.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

You know I haven’t watched Project Runway in years. But this year I decided to give it a shot mostly because of his blog. Last week I bailed on PR because The Simpsons are far more entertaining…IMO.

  • Am I the only one who thinks the “something has been weighing on me very heavily” comment from Tim in the preview means that Char might be coming back

    • Kimbolina

Oooh, perhaps he retroactively saves her.

      • Yeah I don’t think the show ever specified when Tim can save somebody

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

        Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

        • I dunno if I would like that (her work hasn’t impressed me) but he seemed genuinely sad to see her go based on personality

        • Cheryl

He needs to save it for someone like Fade, Kini, or Sean, who’s been doing well all along, and has had one bad day, rather than for a middle-of-the-packer. There’s still some talent left!

    • marlie

      UGH. That wouldn’t surprise me.

    • bpinks

Or is it that Sean got the win for Kini’s work?

      • Swiftlytiltingplanet

        Way better!

      • alyce1213

I think that’s it. Tim didn’t speak up and tell the judges that Kini made the blouse and he knows it affected the outcome.

        • EveEve

Kini could have spoken up on his own behalf. Nobody put a gag on him.

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I agree, but I think it’s a tough call when you’re up on the runway. You never know how the judges are going to take it or how your teammate is going to react. Spats on the runway are never good.

          • wayout46

I dont think Tim knew Kini made the blouse

          • EveEve

If Kini had acknowledged that Sean designed it, and he executed it, there would not have been a spat.

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Oh, you. You’re such an optimist!

          • Gatto Nero

I think that was Sean’s responsibility.

          • Qitkat

I would however like to see kilts on the runway 😉
            Sorry, couldn’t resist.

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Kilts are grand anywhere! In a few weeks, my friend Bradley is marrying his boyfriend Jeff, and he will be wearing a kilt. I’m not sure about Jeff. I’m looking forward to this wedding for a lot of reasons.

          • Gatto Nero

I think it was up to Sean (not Kini) to tell the judges that Kini helped with the top. But what Sean did do was tell them that Kini deserved the win.
The bottom line, though, is that Sean designed the look, and Kini helped him finish the sewing. Sean’s pants were beautifully constructed; with a little more time he could have sewn the top himself as well.

          • alliekat9090

I honestly think the guy is too gracious to do that. He strikes me as a very nice person.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I was thinking it has something to do with Fetch being a bitch. But that is likely wishful thinking.

(Yes, I know. She’s being prompted in the talking heads and editing! But she still says these things.)

  • Fordzo a.k.a. Fancy Mukluks

Was that supposed to be a compliment from Tim?

  • Jacob Bowen

Getting up super early for a Starbucks run (it’s out of the way), so GOODNIGHT!

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

      Kiss, kiss. Love you.

    • marlie

      Goodnight! xoxo

  • wayout46

The first thing that hit me with their choice for winner was that it wasn’t fair since Kini sewed half of the winning reception ensemble as well. But – bottom line – it was Sean’s design. It’s the only way I can muster nobody having said anything.

    • MilaXX

it was completely up to Kini to take ownership of his work. He can’t complain if he didn’t speak up.

  • marlie

    Good night, kittens!

  • wayout46

And I still can’t believe all the airtime those two attention whores get, even when their designs land in the safe-zone.

    • EveEve

It isn’t them being attention whores so much as the producers deciding which contestants to focus on. The producers could just as easily decided to create drama between Sandhya and Char or Kini and Sean.

    • Passionflora

Their designs were safe, not stellar. I thought for sure that they would be in the bottom and clawing at each other like crazy. Neither one of them is worth the airtime.

  • LC3203

I haven’t seen the end yet, but here’s what I have to say immediately: Dita is a bitch. And Kini? I am over you. Go f*ck yourself.

    • Swiftlytiltingplanet

      Wow. Harsh.

      • LC3203

I know. I realize that. And I’ve had some vodka. But what makes me angry is that Alex deferred to him. But apparently that just wasn’t good enough. And the thing is? The judges weren’t all on board with his design as it was. They LOVED the Katherine Hepburn look. And that wasn’t his. Yes, he finished the top, but he didn’t design it. He cancelled himself out.

As far as who went home? Nonsense. Just nonsense. Crack smoking nonsense.

        • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Got it. 🙂 The judges did like Kini’s, too, though, and I can see that the fact that he made the shirt from Alex’s design would make him feel robbed

Would you have sent Sandya home? Or put a different team int he bottom?

          • wontons

Y’all mean Sean, not Alex, right?

I tend to think that Kini should have won, but hey, if neither he nor Sean brought up his efforts on the construction of Sean’s design (or the fact that Tim suggested the cummerbund waist), then how would the judges know?

Either way, both designs were fabulous, and I’m really happy they won.

          • LC3203

Yes yes. Sean. Not Alex. Stupid vodka.

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

Sean and Alex are the designers that are still, personally, kind of interchangeable to me. There design styles are not, but if we don’t call Sean “Ass Passion”, I don’t know who he is.

          • LC3203

I would have sent Sandy home, yes. Her dress was awful. And she’s awful. But it’s totally another example of how a designer’s win history determines the outcome. Char should have stayed. Period. Although, I thought for sure they were trying to get rid of Samantha simply for being totally invisible up until now. But she managed some nice detailing in that 3 day old crime scene red bodice.

          • Swiftlytiltingplanet

I like Sandyha, and I’ve liked what she’s done. I also like Char, but her stuff has been meh. Both dresses were awful, and I think this was a case of using past performance to break the tie of awfulness. I think it reasonable.

          • scoobysnacks

What’s the problem with a designer’s win history mattering here? If someone’s made them happy in the past and they want to consider that in deciding who goes home, I have no problem with that. Besides which, Char’s was both bad AND simple. Sandhya’s was more ambitious even if it was terrible. Char couldn’t get darts right without help and it was her idea to do the leather. Why’d she pick it if she doesn’t know how to handle it? And if she didn’t love the yellow she needed to speak up.

          • Stubenville

The judges are only supposed the consider the work presented that episode, although it’s a widely ignored rule.

          • LC3203

            Yes. Exactly.

          • Paula Carr

I know they repeat that all the dang damn time on Top Chef, but have they ever specifically said that on PR? I can’t remember it ever being specifically articulated…although I could have easily forgotten.

          • LC3203

I’m talking about the whole “One day you’re in and the next day you’re out” business that is ignored every time someone goes home. And I feel like Char did say something at Mood. And Sandy shut her down. From a taste standpoint I’ve preferred Char’s looks up until now.

          • turtleemily

She spoke up in Mood but should have said on the runway that the color wasn’t her pick.

  • LC3203

Oh and? The outcome was bullshit.

  • pdquick

    Some thoughts:

    1. I don’t think for a minute that there were “Karina” and “Amanda” buttons in that bag. The producers wanted to throw them together after the morning drama, and they rigged it so that would happen. Call me cynical, but there. I said it.

    2. Karina is right about Amanda.

    3. I’m sick of that fucking refrigerator.

    4. Kini’s dress should have been floor length.

    5. And he should have taken credit for the top.

    6. Char deserved the loss.

    7. Tim was being kind. He was well within his rights to have wanted to wait until later to use his save, and he should use it for someone who does not deserve the auf.

    8. Char was incredibly gracious in her exit, and she took Tim’s comment in the spirit it was offered. I’d put better than even odds that we’ll see Char again somehow. She’ll be brought back as an assistant or something. And that’s good.

    9. I liked Emily’s look. And loved Fäde’s. And I thought they were more cohesive than anyone gave them credit for.

    10. Amanda should have at least had the decency to say thank you to Amanda for snatching her ass from the fire.

    • SewingSiren

      10. Yes she Korinna seemed all queued up to blame Amanda for the pants, when the pants most certainly saved them from being in the bottom AND they apparently were patterned and sewn by Amanda AND they looked better than the jacket.

  • DuBey2

LOVED Kini’s dress! very figure flattering & dramatic, in a great fabric.

  • destroy1234

The spoiler in episode 1 seems kinda off…

  • emilaweb

That was the most manufactured drama I’ve seen from this show and it wasn’t even a big deal. Please tell me ya’ll picked up on that they didn’t reference the drama at ALL during the ‘live’ bits, it was all offscreen and discussed in different rooms with different people. Like. really.

  • SewingSiren

I’m pretty much on board with the win and lose. I thought team Goth was over criticized and some of the judges changed their vote for it because Dita hated it. fade’s half was very good and Emily was the only one who designed a head piece for the bride. In almost every wedding ceremony from city hall to state park, to drive through chapel, to cathedral the bride shows some attention to the headdress. Plus in non traditional land it is a way of signifying “The Bride”.

    • LC3203

Dita came off needlessly bitchy. And I really hated how much they shat on Emily. It was basically a playground beating on the Goth kids. She’s one of the only designers there with any kind of point of view and they constantly give her a hard time about it simply because they “don’t like it”. I was really happy Heidi stood up for them.

      • ShaoLinKitten

Dita was very negative, I thought. Some of her criticisms seemed like non-sequiturs. “I like burgundy, but not with white.” What? A cursory Google search will reveal that white with burgundy is a widely accepted combination for wedding dresses. But because Dita wouldn’t wear it, it’s not good.

I have to say, the only team I thought was bad was Char and Sandhya. All the others, including Korina and Amanda, had something beautiful in them.

  • ktr33

Ok, Kini’s annoying, and he seems to be duplicating himself a bit, but I really don’t understand how the win went to whats-his-name his partner instead of him. What am I missing?

  • altermyego

I’ve read through pages and pages of comments but didn’t finish so if someone has already brought this up apologies…
Shouldn’t we BKs be complaining about how the producers clearly rigged the button bag, or Tim’s reading of it, so that Corinne and Amanda got paired together and were the last two paired?
I don’t care what Tim says about things not being manipulated, there is no way that was random. No way.

  • alliekat9090

I am just over this business of 1 day challenges. I am tired of the show being about racing the clock instead of actual design. I would love to see Zac Posen try to turn out an acceptable garment (or two!) from concept to runway in one day. I want to see the designers have some chance to exhibit what they can do instead of making this some sort of speed race. There are a lot of unfinished pieces sent out that might have had a chance of being quite nice if the designers had another day or even another 12 hours to work on them. The only thing worth watching at this point are the final collections, most everything else is just thrown together with a desperate beat the clock attitude. Not fun and nothing to do with real design talent.
