Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman on the “Doctor Who” World Tour in Sydney

Posted on August 12, 2014

Poor Peter. He already looks just a little bit tired of the endless posing for pictures from inside a TARDIS-shaped shed.

His poledancing outfits are getting blander, which is a shame, because we think he’s striking and you could do a lot with his looks. His costume for the new season is just about the best possible styling for him we could imagine. Matt Smith largely dressed in a style somewhat similar to his Doctor’s retro-British hipster togs whenever he was promoting the show. Peter should take a page from his book and adopt that aging punk style of his costume for the tour and the press images.

As for her dress … it’s weird, right? Like, we could maybe buy the tube-like shape or the Elizabethan cuffs, but not both in the same dress? The color’s pretty on her. We’ll give it that. But it almost looks like she’s wearing some sort of protective smock over a much more dramatic dress underneath. Weird.

I kinda like her sci-fi waitress dress.

      • jen

Me too. And that’s some face she’s got!

      • j_am

        Yep, love it!

      • Bridget Smith

I also have something I call my sci-fi waitress dress! It’s from Target and I love it. (It looks nothing like this.)

      • Thomas

        I like the color too.

      • http://fibonaccisequins.storenvy.com/ Danielle

Oh good, I was afraid I was alone.

      • suzanne77

She’s rocking a season 1 ST;TNG Deanna Troi look. Denny’s Waitress in SPAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!

    • decormaven

Love the color on her. The cuffs are too long on the dress.

      • Lee

On that note, in the first picture I thought she was wearing black gloves in august.

    • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

My first thought was “Tardis flight attendant.”

      • gabbilevy

Which, if we’re being uncharitable, is a little like what a companion is. (But not really.) (I like the dress.)

    • Scimommy

All I want to know is when are Peter, Jenna, and their TARDIS coming to the US? Like, maybe, to NYC???

      • Lastgoodbye

Why yes…Thursday in fact. At the Ziegfeld. Tix for the screening are sold out though.

        • Scimommy

Of course they are. Do you have a link to the event?

        • FibonacciSequins

So sorry I missed hearing about this in time to get tickets!

    • Kathy

I’d like her dress better if it weren’t so tight across the shoulders and breast area, or if there WERE a more dramatic dress underneath.

    • MissusBee

A tardis in dress form, concealing a full Elizabethan costume (and several others) inside. Peter looks like a trendy vicar.

      • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

Just realized my need for more trendy vicars in my life.

        • demidaemon

Every time I see the word “vicar,” I immediately yell out, “HE”S THE KILLER!.” I watch way too many British procedurals.

    • sugarkane105

I actually really love her dress. He, on the other hand, completely fades into the background. He looks like a fan posing next to her – time to step it up on the style front.

    • SewingSiren

The TARDIS looks fakey. She looks like she’s wearing an updated Star Trek uniform. He is giving a distinctly Fatherly vibe.

      • FridaStaire

She is way too young for him!

        • julnyes

Peter has declared there will be no romance between the two of them and hopefully he can reign Moffat in enough to make that stick.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

Her shoes are insane. That arch in her foot is almost straight up. :(

      • Crystal

It’s ridiculous. Who makes them, I wonder?

      • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

Ugh, I hate shoes like that.

      • WendyD

        She’s super short.

    • Libster

The color of the dress seems like an odd choice for the pole-dance — you’d think they’d want her to “pop” against the Tardis background.

    • Kent Roby

Her dress needs a bit of steaming, but is otherwise flattering, stylish, and sexy.

    • msdamselfly

      I like her dress.

    • Melissa Brogan

Her shoes look painful, her dress is odd, her bra looks like it’s a half a size too small, and he totally fades into the background.

Stylewise this appearance is not a win.

    • Janet B

The blue is gorgeous on her and her hair and face are pretty. I wish the dress fit her better.
His style is much like my husband’s: non-existent.

    • Hysterectomypants

I agree that he needs to step up his game a little, but I do think he looks pretty great here–the shoes are keeping things from seeming too Dadish, and he just seems so damn cool. (Disclaimer: I LOVE HIM)

She looks adorable in her odd little dress.

    • papillon

I like her dress but I would have liked it more in a different, heavier fabric (for a different season, ofc).

    • hughman

Well now all I see is her flamboyantly removing her Protective Smock to reveal the Dramatic Dress (!!!) underneath. “TA-DA!” she shouts energetically while the stunned Press bursts into applause.

    • Sarah

I fully agree that the dress looks like it’s hiding something more fussy underneath. The color is good, but the frills are a question mark, for me. Also, a tube makes for awkward wrinkles from sitting, as pic #3 would suggest. Riding up in front a bit.

    • kmk05

Is it just me, or is she a young!Cheryl Cole? I think it’s the squarish bone structure and the dimples… She’s cute. He looks super-tired.

    • Mothra

I like the dress but it is wrinkled and I am pretty sure I can see her bra. His outfits have been uninspired. I suppose they don’t want to tart him up too much because he’s going to be wearing a spectacular coat with red satin lining (?) in the series. She does look a little more grown up. I am curious why all her outfits now are blue but when they were in … Scotland maybe? It was a red ball gown. I prefer the blue.

      • FibonacciSequins

Same thoughts about her dress. It’s a great color for her. His outfit could have been lifted just by wearing a shirt/sweater in something besides black.

        • Mothra

I also kind of like those cuffs. It is too bad about the wrinkles.

    • OffToSeeHim

I think the dress is very cute – I’d like it a skosh longer, but that’s probably just me.

    • Jennifer Schiller

I actually really like her dress, but maybe that’s just because I think it fits her to a T color and shape wise and everything else is rendered beautifully.

    • MilaXX

I like her dress, weird cuffs and all. As for him, I think he’s dressing very much how he dresses on his off time. I think it’s probably a little odd for him to have this level of fame after such a long career.
Cannot wait for the new season to start!

      • Tanya Wade

        Everything you said!

    • ashtangajunkie

I’ve never heard of Jenna Coleman, but she is cry-yourself-to-sleep pretty. Wow.

    • Elizabeth Szubert

He just needs to build up his pole dance stamina. It’s been a while, possibly*?

*I really don’t know – only know him from his former appearance on DW and then CoE.

    • marlie

I like her dress, but the cuffs need to be a smidge shorter.

    • KateShouldBeWorking

She and Christina Ricci need to play sisters.

      • Lattis

Holy cats. You are so right!

    • Coco Chanel

She’s a tiny lady she shouldn’t be wearing clown clothes

    • Corsetmaker

I really like her dress, but it’s too small across the boobs and her bra is too small. Can see it pulling across the top of the cup. He’s Peter Capaldi, I have no objections :)

    • Lattis

I hope that there is more chemistry between these two than is apparent in the photos above. Even in the pic where he has his arm on her shoulder they look stiff as boards. I’m not asking for romance between them – just some spark. Like Jon Pertwee (aka Ruffle Shirt Doctor). He was really warm and engaging with his companions without being romantically involved.

    • katetastrophe

I think she forgot to take the dress out of the garment bag. Although, she’s so pretty she can work a garment bag with coffee filter cuffs.

    • Charlotte Palmer

He is so brilliant it doesn’t matter what he is wearing

    • demidaemon

Her dress is weird. I don’t like it.

    • Cecilia Lin

in defense of her cuffs and the fact that she’s wearing something underneath so the dress looks kinda…weird, IT IS ABSOLUTELY FREEZING IN SYDNEY RIGHT NOW. That day the lowest was 4 degrees Celsius and highest around 15.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

The dress looks a bit Partridge Family to me – so I am well-disposed towards it. And Dendy Opera Quays is a great cinema.

    • DuBey2

Wow. She sure is cute in that. It seems a bait wrinkled, but I love the look from a distance, especially in the TARDIS shed.

    • stickee

She’s adorable, but maybe she shouldn’t choose a shade like that while posing so close to the Tardis? Kind of like wearing red on the red carpet.

    • Columbinia

It’s a jacket trying to be a dress, and failing.

    • formerlyAnon

He’s giving much better face than she is. I like the cuffs so much I am pretending they work with the dress. The dress needed to come off . . . crisper, then it would have worked.

P.s.: I see no way to work “TARDIS-shaped shed” into my conversation today, but gosh do I want to.

    • Kikishua

The dress is a wee bit too tight if she puts her shoulders back (pic 4) – looks better with a relaxed stance. I rather like it!.

    • http://www.lippsisters.com/ Deborah Lipp

I like her dress a lot but I don’t think she should dress to match the Tardis.
