To no one’s surprise at all, Miss Nicki had a wardrobe malfunction up on stage last night. Favorite line of the E! story at that link:
“Minaj further explained her style slip-up via an Instagram caption early Monday morning. ‘God is good. As long as a nipple didn’t come out to play, I’m fine,’ the hip-hop star, 31, told her 7.8 million followers.”
Oh, yes. Praise His Holy Name, Nicki.
Anyway, what we find interesting about her style choices is how relatively toned down she kept it when she was off stage.

This is kind of chic, actually. Or as chic as a sequined cheetah print mini-dress can get. We like the shoe choice. Keeps it light and fun. Unfortunately, it wasn’t exactly designed for her shape, so it’s pulling across the hips and riding up. Too bad, because she looks cute otherwise. Love the hair. The makeup’s scary, but we assume that was for the stage and TV cameras.
This is the dress she couldn’t get zipped up in time to hit the stage and it’s clear why:

We don’t know what the hell she was thinking. That sure as hell doesn’t look like something you can do a quick-change into between songs. She can barely keep it closed as it is and she’s just standing there.
Having said that, it’s a pretty damn fabulous look head to toe. It’s just not stagewear. It’s odd that she of all people would make a mistake like that. Then again, there’s no reason for us to believe any on-stage wardrobe malfunction at the VMAs is anything but deliberate. Does she regularly bust out of dresses when she’s not being broadcast to millions around the world? There you go.
