That diamond hair clip is awesome. The clutch isn’t.

      • BackseatDriver

All the white/silver tones in the whole ensemble… but then a gold-accented purse. Why?

      • evave2

Isn’t it? First thing I noticed and the only thing that really stayed with me, but I would LOVE that hair clip.

    • Dany

Ok, I actually love all of this. Perfect silhouette for her, and the makeup, while heavy, is actually serving to soften her up a bit. The hair looks great and I love the hair clip. Everything is great it’s a WE—oh, for fuck’s sake. Why those shoes Laverne???

      • MilaXX

        the summer of #shoefail continues

      • nancymae

And that pedicure is not helpful

    • Sarah

Very nice. Love the white and the jewelry. I’m pretending the feet/shoes are not in my field of vision.

      • TAGinMO

Because my original comment was deleted, so I will restate my thesis by directly quoting a past TLo post about Melissa McCarthy:
“She needs something substantial on her feet.”
These shoes are the opposite of that. Hence, my objection.

    • J.W.

I can’t look at the pedicure without thinking of toe fungus. I’m sorry. :(

      • Gatto Nero

The dress is classic and elegant. The tricky mani-pedi (and too-small shoes) just derail the whole look for me.

      • Karen Belgrad

The pedi looks like October toenails to me… you know the one where it’s half-grown off because you’re too lazy to remove your summer polish?

        • Sarah

          Ha! Totally.

        • MartyBellerMask

          HAHAHA!! That’s it exactly.

      • stellavision

YES. And it really doesn’t help that her toes are hanging over the edge of the shoe.

      • DB Ruberto

THANK YOU! I was just thinking “How is this not a WERQ or at least a Personal Best”???

        • TAGinMO

          Personal best? Sure.
WERQ? From the ankles up, perhaps.

          • Paigealicious

I’m giving those eyebrows a WERQ fo’ sho’.

        • prettyinmink

I agree it’s a personal best but those shoes take it out of WERQ territory. If both Laverne and Lupita could get their shoe game right they would rule the red carpet.

          • understateddiva

There have been plenty of WERQs without perfect shoes – more about a personal best/big impact moment! But a case could definitely be made that the shoes distract enough from the overall effect to take away the WERQ…

        • Gayer Than Thou

Not WERQ-worthy: The shoes. The visible foundation garments. That purse. The pedicure. Also, I don’t really love the hair clip and earrings. But the dress is a knock-out. If the whole look had been styled to better match the dress, I would join you in your campaign for a WERQ recount.

        • Clash D

          Because the hair. Demroots, y’all.

    • MilaXX

She’s getting there. I like the dress and the jewelry. I might even be okay with the bag. The pedicure and the too small shoes ruin the look. Even f they fit I don’t think those are the right shoes for this look.

    • sojourneryouth

Love the dress, but Imma need to pray on those shoes and that pedicure, because my soul isn’t right with them! I blame Satan.

I wish she would go for a darker weave. I think she would look softer and more natural with darker hair instead of going for Beyonce all the time.

      • Alyssa

That pedicure needs to die a quick, swift death!

    • marlie

She looks so, so, so PRETTY here. I love her hair and the barrette, her makeup is soft and flattering, and this dress is outstanding on her. I think I like the “pretty and romantic” Laverne better than the “fierce and sexy” Laverne.

But girlfriend, those are NOT your shoes (or your pedicure).

      • Kitten Mittons

Love that dress on her! The barrette was a great choice, too.

    • sugarkane105

Love that she tried more of an elegant, not so tight-and-short sexed-up look. The bag and jewelry are great, but the hair clip is a bit presh.

    • ThaliaMenninger

The bag is all wrong, but the dress is amazing on her.

    • LibKat

Loving this softer look on her. With a better purse, bracelet, shoes and pedicure and this would have been an epic WERQ.

    • Elisabeth Ashley

Yes! The dress is amazing on her, I’m glad her style is starting to branch out from super short/shiny/tight all the time. The shoes are unfortunate and the weave is struggling a lil bit but the dress hugs her perfectly.

    • FibonacciSequins

I like the bag but it doesn’t work with the rest of the dress. She needs to size up those sandals.

That peek of black hair makes me think a darker shade would flatter her complexion and bring out her beautiful eyes.

    • Alicia

The reverse French tip is FAIL when it just looks like your pedi has grown out. Let’s just pretend things never happened below the ankles.

      • Gayer Than Thou

I don’t even like a regular French tip, but I sure don’t like it in reverse. I don’t even get it.

        • Alicia

I loathe French tips on toenails. They don’t make sense – why would you want to make your toenails look longer?

    • Glam Dixie

Hair looks better, dress is doing great things for her and it appears to actually be the correct size which is not usually the case with her. I don’t like the green bag or the jewelry very much and the feet/shoes situation is just bad. I’m trying to unsee them.

    • Imasewsure

Not in love with the hair but it’s a definite improvement. Total look is really pretty though.. Attagirl!!

    • KendraMR

I love that silhouette on her, but the diamond hair clip, shoes, and pedi gotta go.

    • stellamaris73

I hope she has a deal going with Donna Karan, because her aesthetic really suits her statuesque figure. More goddess gowns, please.

    • Qitkat

Simply gorgeous! Love the color of bag she chose.

    • Shelby

I love it (although I think the shoes might be a smidge small…). I think she looks gorgeous.

    • sleah_in_norcal

looks like tastee freeze! yummm. but i hate that style of mani-pedi.

    • prettyinmink

I think this should be classified as a personal best. The dress and makeup are perfection and the jewelry is edgy although I feel the hair clip doesn’t really blend with the rest. As often happens with our goddess Lupita, I will have to pretend the shoes don’t exist.

    • frannyprof

      Very pretty!

    • Chattygal

Gorge, until I got to the toes.

    • rubigirl

Eleganza from the tip of her head to her ankles. I will stop at the ankles.

    • teensmom99

      White dress on LC! Yes!

    • tpalgal

Miss Laverne looks absolutely gorgeous and the fit of that dress is wonderful; however, does it bug no one besides me that she appears to be wearing a short slip or shapewear underneath? There’s such a noticeable line! If the material were the same color all the way down, it would look luxe as hell!

Like every other single commenter, I lament that janky pedicure. And I am so, so tired of the Stuart Weitzman Nudist sandal. . .why did it become the “it” shoe this summer? It looks horridly uncomfortable and is a twisted ankle just waiting to happen. And just because you can make it in 100 colors/fabrics/leathers/crystals, Mr. Weistzman, doesn’t mean you should.

    • nancymae

Is it weird that I wish she had gotten in touch with Viola Davis’ bronzing assistant?

    • PinkyK

She looks great! Well…..except for the toes hanging over her shoes…

    • SugarSnap108

Love the dress on her. I’m just gonna ignore that pedicure/shoe situation and look at her smile instead.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

Her makeup looks gorgeous here, I love it. Something about the whole look is making me think of early Whitney Houston (may she rest in peace.)

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Love, love this dress on Laverne, and the jewelry.

    • nannypoo

That dress is gorgeous on her, but that is the ugliest damn pedicure I have ever seen.

    • musi_

      well done !!

    • Boop

Ahhh mazing. She’s got it down here. Love it.

    • Mr. J.

Wonderful confidence, white looks great on her.

    • LJCdoc

Love, love that dress. Not the shoes, but I cut her a lot of slack on shoes. I’m a cis woman with big feet & it’s hard to find cute shoes that both fit and are not heinous. I am aging she has a limited number of brands that work. The pedi does not help, though.

    • Man Dala

I like this look. I really disliked what she wore, and her hair, at the MTV VMAs.

    • quiltrx

Please do NOT let the “I smashed every single one of my toes a couple months ago” pedi catch on!
And why did Laverne get sucked into that shoe vortex? She’s too cool for that.
And this dress is gay-gasp worthy. Fits great and very classy.
(is it too much to ask to give the wig back to Beyoncé?)

    • Lily

    • demidaemon

I don’t know if it is the slight crazy eyes or her make-up, but something is not right with her face suit. The dress is fabulous, though.

    • Sophie

I like it. Love the colour of the clutch, if not the gold bits (which look out of place). Everything looks great – until you see the feet.

    • KT

Oh my god – was that pedicure intentional or not? Either way — EWWWW!!!

    • Sarah

      B. For the love of all things good in the world, BBBBB! It’s not the feet that I object to. It’s just the shoes and the nails. I mean, there are worlds of non-transgender women out there with hiddy feet. Feet are kind of gross, all the time really. If they’re clean, moisturized, and free from any strange malformations, I say the sandals be worn, and by ALL.

    • demidaemon

Agree on the feet grossness. But, yes, if you plan to wear sandals, whatever your gender, make sure to beautify them to the utmost.
