Kirsten Dunst, Kate Mara and Lena Dunham at “Miu Miu Women’s Tales #7 – #8″ Premiere

Posted on August 29, 2014

Kiki, Kate and their Bubbe went out for a night on the town. It was really sweet of the girls to bring her along.

Okay, let’s deal with Lena first, since we guarantee she’ll dominate the conversation in the comments section. Our take? Believe it or not, we think this isn’t bad. She’s having some fun with her fashion and she’s expressing it well. She’s not dressed like a toddler, nor is she wearing anything totally unsuited to her. We’re not a hundred percent in love with the dress, but it’s fine. We’d just rather see it hemmed to above the knee to avoid the dowdiness she always seems to be embracing. The sandals are cute. The bag’s pretty kickass. The hair’s a joke. Literally.

As for the other two, it’s funny; both of their outfits are pretty great and well put together, but we just can’t help thinking it doesn’t matter. Lena pretty much won this round in terms of who’s wearing the most discussable look.

    • Jarethee

That’s Kirsten Dunst? Really? Coulda fooled me. As for Lena, the less said the better…

      • megohd

Why does she insist on making that face? Is it because she thinks she can’t compete in the “pretty girl” department so she needs to be the funny one? Is she tired of people throwing shade when she tries her best, so she’s determined to go for the laugh first? I find it exhausting. (I bet she does too.)

    • Chattygal

I thought Lena was a rough looking Patsy Stone.

      • holla

spot on! Is she trolling the media lately?

        • tpalgal

          Lately?

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Patsy Stone…the sadly unfabulous years, as interpreted by Lena.

        • Stubenville

Just needs a bottle of Stoli (and cases for the Bitter Kittens.)

      • Valdri8

It would be fucking hilarious to have Lena play a long-lost child that Patsy fathered when she was a man!

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I prefer Lena’s joke hair to Kate Mara’s moth-eaten serious hair.

      • Constant Reader

I was going to say that Kate’s hair looks like my kitten Ginger chewed it off. Moth-eaten, kitten-chewed; potato, potahto.

      • Txell

I really like Kate’s hair! It might be because mine looks like that when I cut it myself, though, and now I get to say that it’s a movie-star haircut instead of a gin-fueled DIY-cut.

        • formerlyAnon

I confess that on a youngish person of impeccable facial bone structure (such as Kate Mara), I like that raggedy hair. It looks insouciant rather than sad. The blessings of [conventional] attractiveness are many.

          • CarolWJohnson

            I just got paid

I like it too and was thinking of taking it to my hair stylist, lol.

        • DuBey2

What? Is there a difference between the two?

      • Violentcello

Ugh, yes! And unfortunately for Lena, her joke hair looks much better on her than the “real” hairstyle she was wearing at the Emmy’s.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

I would love if Lena could find one of the batshit crazy wigs that Gary Oldman wore in Coppola’s “Dracula” and would wear it. If she’s going for fun, then pull out all the stops.

          • Paula Carr

Or the wig Carol Kane wore in “Hester Street.”

That’s kinda what I thought this one was at first … just bleached to within an inch of its life.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

              Good reference!

      • Glam Dixie

We had a calf that I was bottle feeding chew off my stallions tail up above his hocks. Yes, he just stood there and let her, but anyway, the ends of his tail looked just like Kate’s ends.

        • Dora Kishinevsky

Now I have a delightful mental image of Kate Mara standing peacefully in a barn, munching on some hay, while a calf chews off her hair. So thanks for that. :)

          • enuma

I’m picturing her in a high-end salon, where she paid $700 to have her hair artfully chewed off by a bottle-fed calf.

I’m sure the hay was complimentary.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

Artfully chewed off before the calf gamboled in the adjacent urban pasture.

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

When I was growing up one of our goats chewed the end of my plait off. Similar result (but green and slimy).

          • Eclectic Mayhem

            Bloody goats will eat anything!

Oh and for the US BKs, Aussie/UK English to US English translation: Plait = Braid.

            • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Thank you! I forget to translate sometimes.

            • Sherilyne Cox

My peeps call me “Goat Whisperer”. Lurve them.

      • All_Hail_Great_Satin

I’m actually a huge fan of Kate Mara’s moth-eaten serious hair. It looks cool.

      • evave2

Moth-eaten serious hair. I can barely look at the clothes because all I see is that horrible horrible hair.

I agree that Lena’s shoes are cute.

Is this the “shot” that Miu Miu wanted to release. Bad shot.

      • A Shiny O’Connor

        Word.

    • Chuck Barthelme

I love Kate’s hair here. And not sure that belt on Lena’s dress is working.

      • TAGinMO

Yes. The belt. That’s the problem. :-)

    • Rhonda Shore

The NYTimes ran a story on Lena saying her looks are determined solely to get people talking…

      • KateShouldBeWorking

That sounds like backpedaling by someone who knows the criticisms are valid.

        • Rhonda Shore

I agree with T-Lo’s view on this but i’m only saying i just received a link to that story. I do think there’s a softer prettiness to her face in these particular pictures that suits her. It seems more natural than usual, despite the bleached out hair.

    • RussellH88

Lena is looking like Velma Von Tussle’s mom.

      • MissusBee

I was just going to say it’s like Mrs Turnblad and Mama Olsen merged in a polyester factory accident.

        • suburbanbohemian

I weep at the perfection of this description.

        • demidaemon

She is definitely showcasing some sixties inspired musical fashion here. I said Grease, but I definitely see the Hairspray as well.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m now picturing the one and only Deborah Harry in the original “Hairspray”-fabulous!

      • SaoirseLee

I’m getting serious Myra Hindley vibes, which as a general rule, is not a Good Thing.

        • Paula Carr

I’m creeped out by that comparison. And, yes, she does give off that vibe a bit.

    • SewingSiren

Cheerleader, Swim team, Librarian ( all she needs is half specs on a chain).

      • BrooklynBomber

        Perfect.

      • Cynica

As a librarian, I resent that. She’s lacking a bag or sweater with cats on it.

        • Watts

As another librarian, I could only wish to have her clothing budget, regardless of how she deploys it.

    • Dino Bonačić

      LENA IS HAPPYYYYY!

    • LilyVanessi

I look at Lena and all I see is elderly New York matron.

    • @Biting Panda

So much cocaine, so little time.

      • DinaSews

Every time I see Lena, I think not enough cocaine.

    • http://www.adriannagrezak.com Adrianna Grężak

Maybe I’m awful for saying this, but I wish Lena Dunham bleached her teeth along with the hair. It’s all I can look at

      • TAGinMO

I’d settle for some bleach for my mind.

    • Qitkat

“We were three little girls from school, one was pretty, one was smart and one was a borderline fool…”

      • decormaven

“Now we’re eighties….ladies…. There ain’t been much these ladies ain’t tried.”

        • Qitkat

Ain’t that the truth. One of the best damn songs, ever.

    • Kitten Mittons

Kirsten looks adorable, love her look.
      Kate looks pretty forgettable.
      I wish Lena looked forgettable.

      • alyce1213

So many of her looks are locked in my head, in the very worst way.

      • Anna

I wish designers would just cut her off!

        • alyce1213

I know. Isn’t she bad for business? But I guess “any publicity is good publicity” applies.

          • Kitten Mittons

When sales are down across the board, I’m sure this is even more true. Perhaps that’s the case right now.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

She’s gearing up for her book tours this fall. Designer schmattas!

            • Kitten Mittons

Tiny baby Jesus, help us all.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

Here at BK Central we need alerts to keep our stylist hype(also known as bullshit)detectors in order.

          • decormaven

People are definitely looking at what she’s wearing, then going “tut tut” and “poor designer.” Is that really what designers want? Pity points? Oh well, “any ladle’s sweet that dishes out the gravy.”

            • Anna

Like I said in another post, give up on her already and work with someone truly worthy: Laverne Cox.

            • decormaven

              Cosigned.

          • Anna

Sadly, true. Even though when she wears couture, it’s a mockery of the work that went into crafting the garment. Or that’s the way it comes across anyway.

    • http://www.adriannagrezak.com Adrianna Grężak

Hate Kate Mara’s shoes, but it’s the best hair and make up shes had

    • marlie

Kiki’s hair is a little too yellow. Cute dress, though.
Kate desperately needs to even up that choppy haircut. It looks like her hair was cut with a pair of dull garden shears. Her dress is ok, but it doesn’t look like she’s at the same event as the other two.
Lena looks frumpy as usual. And I don’t know how much longer I can take the vamping and posing. Her hairdo is ridiculous, and I think the belt on her dress hits her at a terrible spot. AND the dress is too long, and I’m not feeling the purse.

      • FrigidDiva

Ugh, YES to Lena’s vamping and posing. I feel a rage blackout coming on whenever I look at pictures of her.

      • Stubenville

        But other than that? [snort]

    • mlurve

I think Lena is just trolling at this point. She has to know what she’s doing, right?

      • VCR1

Absolutely, she’s made sure that no one is looking at anyone else! Kinda smart, really.

    • Monabel

None of these women look good.

    • FibonacciSequins

I like Kate’s dress, but it would look better against her skin tone in a different color.

What was Lena thinking with that hair style? Her skirt’s too long. I want her bag.

That is one seriously retro dress, Kiki.

      • mlle

Maybe she was thinking 1960s Italian film star? She’s not nearly glam enough to work it.

        • FibonacciSequins

No, she isn’t. Someone else said none of them look like movie stars here, and that’s true. Which is kind of a shame, considering they’re at a film premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

          • alyce1213

As an American, I am officially embarrassed.

          • mlle

What a terrible mistake! Kate and Kiki are wearing their afterparty dresses. (Lena is wearing no one’s dress.)

    • BuffaloBarbara

Kiki – cute. Kate – needs to rethink her hairdresser. Lena – I’ve got nothing.

    • Anna

You just have to laugh. That’s all I got for LD at this point.

The other two look like they can’t wait to get away from her. And thanks for making me feel better about all the haircuts I had in grade school, Kate!

    • Amykl

Nobody looks like a MOVIE STAH here. More like suburban girls doing a night out in the city. I bet they hired a limo.

      • Introspective

totally saturday night in the meatpacking district with 3 girls from hoboken trying to recreate sex and the city era new york in the loudest, most drunkenly annoying ways possible.

but two of them didnt have the heart to tell the other that her outfit was too frumpy for the night’s proceedings.

      • Anna

        An SUV limo.

        • BLauDGaspode

          A pink SUV limo.

          • Anna

*snort* Yes, EXACTLY. These three definitely look like “Whooo!!!” girls.

    • http://heartprintandstyle.com/ Vivi N

I like the print of Lena’s dress but the length is horrible. Also, the belt and that clutch was so not needed. I’m fine with Lena’s new hair color but she’s yet to do a style that works with it.

Kirsten looks really cute. Love her dress. Kate gets a meh from me.

    • mlle

Love Kirsten’s dress, but the rest is meh. Love sparkly dresses and think that silhouette is great on Kate, though her hair is terrible. Lena’s makeup is possibly an all time best, but she’s ruining it with the mugging. Hate the dress, hate the shoes, think the bag is great.

    • http://fibonaccisequins.storenvy.com/ Danielle

What am I even looking at I can’t even

      • decormaven

There, there. Soon the uncles will serve up some tasty sausage, and these images will be magically erased.

        • http://fibonaccisequins.storenvy.com/ Danielle

There better be some shirtless Idris to make up for Lena’s fuckery.

      • BLauDGaspode

Yes, have hope. It’s Friday, after all!

    • MartyBellerMask

      F- Kirsten
      M- Lena
      K- Kate

      • demidaemon

Jesus Christ, M for Lena really. Sounds like a one way trip to irritation town.

    • JulieK

I don’t think that dress suits Lena at all. It looks like a sack. And I know the hair is a joke but it’s the kind of joke that is more annoying than funny.

      • mshesterp

“it’s the kind of joke that is more annoying than funny.”
I feel like that line is the epitome of La Dunham, and thus why she increasingly makes me rage-y. She’s always trying to hard, and she just doesn’t need to. She’s just. so. tedious.

And now, damnation–I’ve fed into her trolling for comments. Double damnit. Ya got me, Dunham. Well played.

      • Paula Carr

It makes her look at least 10 lbs. heavier. Maybe more.

    • NBG

I know I sound like a broken record but Kate’s hair really bugs. The color, the cut…I really hope she did not pay someone for that!

    • alyce1213

Again, you are way too kind, Uncles. Lena’s dress is ridiculous, not fun. Fun? It’s an ugly, matronly dress that should not be worn by a young woman in her 20s.
If she’s going to do that hairstyle, she needs an outfit that says “Groovy,” not “Bubbe.” She should be wearing Kirsten’s dress — now THAT would be fun!
Her sandals might have been cute if her pinky toes were not tortured out of the side. If strappy sandals don’t contain your toes, don’t wear them!
And the bag, and the face . . . no.

Kate Mara’s hair makes be stabby, and her shoes must die. She won’t let go of the shooves, will she?

Kiki looks okay, although here hair looks too yellow (may be the light).

    • Agnes Gooch

I feel like so much of how Lena presents herself to the world reads as “self loathing.” At least to me it does. It does not read like some kind of self-empowered feminist poking fun at the fashion world.

      • Boulderista

Hear, hear. I couldn’t agree more.

      • Little_Olive

THIS. How are you supposed to convey the anti-establishment message through self deprecation?

    • Sobaika

Not playing into Lena’s hands. NOT TODAY, SATAN. NOT TODAYS.

Kate Mara’s choppy bob is odd. Looks a bit fried and misshapen.

    • tallgirl1204

I would like to have seen Kiki’s dress (which is super cute) re-worked for Lena. I think it could be a WERQ.

      • alyce1213

Great minds think alike. Not sure about a WERQ, maybe Attagirl.

      • Nancer

Yes, exactly! That would totally work for her.

      • MilaXX

A line’s are not Lena’s friend. She tends to be drawn to them but they work against her shape and end up looking like the dreaded toddler dress. I would hate Kiki’s dress on Lena. TLo are right, adjust the hem on the one she is wearing to knee length and we’ve got the start of a good look.

    • katetastrophe

When I was a junior in high school, a friend and I drank tumblers of Everclear and Hawaiian Punch. Shortly after finishing our classy cocktails my friend bet me I wouldn’t let her cut my hair with pinking shears. My prize for winning the bet? Kate Mara’s ‘do.

    • decormaven

Lena is a fashion thread hijack.

    • allisankelly

I don’t even have any constructive criticism of Lena. I just can’t even with her. I am officially an old lady.

      • Kathy_Marlow

I am too Southern for this. I was raised you always left the house looking your best. I just cannot with her.

        • BayTampaBay

Kathy, I agree with you girl. I find nothing even remotely interesting about this woman. If she is so…”smart and well educated”…..why is she lowering herself to playing the Kardashian game????

      • schadenfreudelicious

I am this far away from telling her to get off my lawn!

    • Freynika

Lena’s makeup is really good this go-around. The hair is a joke, but she knows it. The less said about the dress, the better. Love the sandals, though.
When is Kate Mara not utterly forgettable?

    • boweryboy

I love Kristen’s dress. Hair and make-up are bland and the shoes seem wrong.

Kate is a wall of beige.

And this is proof positive for me that Lena is punking us on the red carpet.

I have no doubt she loves fashion, but her sartorial choices are so consistently awful that it’s obvious it’s deliberate. I think she thinks it’s funny (she is a “comedienne” afterall) to take thousands of dollars worth of clothing and make them look as frumpy and ill fitting as possible. At what point as a designer do you say, “Enough!”, and refuse to loan her any more of your clothing?

I actually kinda sorta like the hair in a ’60s bad girl who puts out kind of way.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Oh god – now I am seeing her as Myra Hindley.

    • Emily

I just want to shake her hard until she agrees to stand up straight for the rest of her life.

      • Emily

In related news, I’ve officially turned into my nana.

        • Gatto Nero

          Just embrace it.

        • Little_Olive

I’d be so happy to turn into my nana. But no, yesterday I was correcting a paper for someone here at work and suddenly realized I am… my boss. :(

    • teensmom99

I think Lena looks beautiful & the hair is a joke that works: you do that color, you go for the Kim Hunter (vertigo era) hair.

    • imspinningaround

Why does Lena always make that slack-jawed open-mouthed derp face? Linda Evangelista you are not, sister.

      • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

Nothing bothers me as much as that expression, God.

      • random_poster

It totally makes her look like she’s about to drool.

      • Eva_baby

Is there such a thing as “facial expression dysmorphia’? Cuz if it is, she has it. I am convinced she thinks she is making this kittenish-sexy-cool face and whenever she looks at a picture of herself she thinks smugly “Nailed it!’ while all the rest of us are ‘WTF with the derp face?’

    • GillianHolroyd

The thing is, I saw photos of Lena Durham at LAX after the Emmys and SHE WAS PERFECTLY PRESENTABLE. She was wearing a nubby white sweater with a striped shirt underneath and white jeans with cute flats. Okay the hair was still the sad bowl cut but she looked fine otherwise.

So I am in the “if not trolling then doing some kind of hipster meta fashion thing” group.

      • BayTampaBay

I think she is a media troll.

        • Stubenville

I suggest dropping “media” from that sentence.

    • Gatto Nero

For someone who usually wears a tee shirt as a dress, this is an improvement. And at least Lena’s not wearing towering heels that she can’t walk in.
Is she going for a ’60s or late ’50s reference with that hair? Because I can’t figure it out.

      • alyce1213

The platinum bouffant is definitely 50/60s, but looks like a ‘fancy grandma hairdo from the beauty parlor’ with that dress. I thought she should be wearing Kirsten’s dress to work with the hair.

    • Nancer

Sorry, TLo, but you are right. The only thing worth commenting on here is Lena. She just seems to go out of her way to pick things that don’t work well for her. I do like that it isn’t toddleresque, but she could do so much better. Raise the hem, and that belt just serves to cut her in the wrong place, accentuating a short waist. We all have figure flaws, and we all have things about our bodies that are beautiful. The trick is to learn to dress our bodies to flatter our best assets. I think that she needs to go to basic training on how to dress hers!

    • Denise Rambo

Kate Mara’s hair looks like she cut it herself … with her eyes closed.

      • ashtangajunkie

        During a bender.

        • LibKat

          Using a blender.

    • JenniferA

Is Lena trying out for another remake of Hairspray?

      • KinoEye

Tracy Turnblad realness. That’s what I got, too.

    • LibKat

Wish Kirsten Dunst would add some warmer notes to her dye job. Wish Kate Mara would invest in a good conditioner. Wish Lena Dunham would just go away.

    • BayTampaBay

I do not get Lena Dunham. I wish someone could explain to me the …whatever she has…..media obsession with her.

    • TinyDynamo

Honestly, there’s no way this isn’t looking crappy on purpose. I did that once, by bleaching my hair the most yellow blonde possible. It was super ugly & that was why I loved it. But that was 1996 & I was 21. So this kinda of “you’re going to knock me down no matter what so I might as well look hideous” schtick that Lena insists on is immature & ridiculous. I hate it.

Kate Mara looks awful. I will always love Kiki.

    • Joanna B

Will someone PLEASE lend Kate a hairbrush?!

    • tpalgal

Wow, the Uncles seem to be making a concerted effort to be inexplicably nice to Lena. This is a girl who seemingly goes out of her way to be/wear the opposite of stylish and flattering, under the fake guise of some kind of alt-hipster chic. Every time we see Lena she might as well be wearing a sandwich board that says, “I know I don’t fit the ridiculous ideal of westernized monetized beauty, so I am always and forever going to wear the most unflattering choices I can make and mug for the camera like a two-year-old, just to prove that I am too cool to care about how I look. Furthermore, this hair? I did that on purpose.”

      • Dora Kishinevsky

The Uncles like to evaluate looks in terms of what the person is trying to achieve.

      • marlie

It gets to a point where it’s not fun or funny to talk about someone’s horribly bad choices. This is way beyond JLo or Mariah’s lack of taste, and Lady Gaga’s penchant for crazy. And then I suppose you either try to say something positive or constructive, or ignore her and move on.

      • MilaXX

I think in part because (at least from my POV) Lena is genuinely trying to dress fashion forward, but she is failing miserably. It’s not about shaming someone, it’s about discussing fashion.

        • tpalgal

In no way is it my intention to shame someone, absolutely not. Everything I said has been said by multiple others on this board – that she often makes awkward unflattering fashion choices and she often makes silly faces when she’s being photographed on the red carpet. Since I don’t know Lena personally (and I assume you don’t either), we are both just speculating about why she makes the choices she makes. You think she “is genuinely trying to dress fashion forward” and I think she’s purposely making choices that will get her noticed and talked about and seen as an icon of the “I’m too cool to be ruled by fashion” forces. I’m not saying she’s a bad person; I’m saying she makes fashion and styling choices that don’t flatter her, and I suspect it isn’t accidental. Girl is crazy like a fox.

          • MilaXX

I wasn’t accusing you of shaming anyone. I was responding to your sentence, “Wow, the Uncles seem to be making a concerted effort to be inexplicably nice to Lena.:>
In other words I think T & Lo are trying to keep is about the fashion.

    • J.W.

I can’t think of anything to say about any of them…zzzzzzzzzzz…

    • Sophie

Lena Dunham is standing completely normally in the last picture and it makes a great difference to how she usually looks. Still dowdy, though.
Don’t like much of anything on Kate Mara. I really like Kirsten Dunst’s dress.

      • marlie

You make a good point – she actually has a genuine-looking smile on her face, and it is a huge improvement to the try-hard posing.

    • smh4748

I quite like Kate Mara’s dress. It’s got a pretty flapper vibe to it.

I wish Lena would look at that last picture. She looks fine when she’s smiling and not doing whatever the hell she’s doing in almost every other picture of her. Why on earth you’d want your google image results to be solely of you with your mouth gaping open in some sort of inexplicable bewilderment, I do not know, but I guess a goal is a goal, no matter how odd.

Also, I know her beehive is a bit ridiculous, but she actually did something with her hair (aside from the tragic bleaching, I mean). I don’t hate it.

    • Betsy

I love the way Kate Mara looks here. I’m probably in the minority but Lena Dunham irks me in the way J. Garafalo did in the 90s.

    • luludexter

I kind of like Lena’s hair — bear with me — for a fun night out — it could be playful, ironic, etc. If she had worn the right dress. If you want to go all “Hairspray,” why not a shorter sheath dress with a funky print, or candy colored shoes — just really have fun with it – not that you have to go all costumey, but do it to a purpose. This mishmash of granny dress and mod hair doesn’t work.

    • Little_Olive

So I’m NOt gonna comment on Lena because I think we’ve all had enough of her. Kiki, I’ll always have a soft spot for you. Kate, your shoes are hideous.

    • DeniseSchipani

Every time you guys mention Lena’s predilection for dressing like an oversize toddler, I have to go to YouTube to watch the excellent Girls parody that Tina Fey did last year as a guest-host on SNL. Lena’s not in it, of course — it’s all SNL players plus Fey as the new “Girl,” an Albanian refugee named Blerta — but the baby-dress fashion is mentioned. Go google it. Worth it for two minutes of a belly laugh.

      • smh4748

Alright, that was an excellent addition to my morning. Thank you! :)

      • BLauDGaspode

        Thank you for that!

      • venusvelvet

Thank you! I’ve been trying to remember where I saw that.

      • CatLady

        Thank you, that was awesome!

    • altermyego

If I only saw the last picture without a caption telling me who they are, I wouldn’t have guessed it was Lena.
And no daggers please, but I like her Dusty Springfield hairdo. It is so much better than her bob. Apologies to Dusty.

    • gitchygitchymama

it’s amazing these thesbians did not drown in their pool of foundation.

    • bouionice

I’m sorry but I just can’t anymore with Lena Dunham. Each time I see her on a red carpet I just want to slap her. I’m sick of her “quirky” or”personal” sense of style. This girl has no sense of style and actively looks for things that are as unflattering as possible. Can she just please go away forever?

    • Paula Pertile

      Hilarious.

    • Bonnie Blue

I love KD’s dress as I am a sucker for 60’s mod style. I forgot Lena Dunham had blonde hair so I thought that was a wig. As another BK mentioned, her hair would have looked good with KD’s dress. She went from toddler to granny.

    • jonnyf8

I just can’t imagine what a real night on the town with these 3 would be like. They seem pretty unalike each other.

    • empath

Maybe Lena’s slack mouth expression is a way to handle the pain that her bunions are causing her? ‘Cause those are some nasty bunions on the distal sides of her feet.

…and that is the only kind thing I can say about Lena. Being short and pudgy myself, this woman does a disservice to all of us short pudgy types by not using her considerable resources to show us how to dress and style a short waisted, pear-shaped body.
Lena looks like bubbe or grandmother… if they lopped 8 inches off the dress, gave it an interesting neckline, tailored the sloppy shoulders, she could’ve looked really cute and rocked the beehive.
Like I’ve said before, Lena’s trolling is played out; the joke is on her; she looks like a joke that isn’t funny at all.

    • Democracy Diva

My Bubbie would have been SO offended by the comparison to Lena Dunham. Bubbie Ev was the fabbest bitch this side of Canarsy and would have said, “Bubbie fashion is way better than that trash!” <3

    • papillon

Kirsten’s dress is really cute, even though the pattern doesn’t line up perfectly.

    • poorellensmith

Why does Lena insist on posing with her mouth open like that? The intentional sex kitten thing really does NOT work for her.

      • MilaXX

People are told to pose with their mouth slightly open because it makes the picture look less static and smiling is considered cheesy. The issue is Lena doesn’t know how to “give face” so she looks silly.

        • random_poster

She looks better when she smiles. That last shot of her face from the side is way better than the slack-jawness in the other two, which only makes her look silly.

    • MilaXX

Kiki’s outfit is cute. I like the color and the accessories. Kate’s is okay, but a bit washed out looking & hooker shoes. I like Lena’s. The dress is cute, and I like the shoes/bag. In addition to taking the hem up, she needs a wider belt and a haircut. I suspect the pin up is an attempt to make the best of a bad situation, but she needs a haircut.

    • formerlyAnon

I like Lena’s head. The makeup works and the hair is entertaining.

    • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

Yes, the only person I see here is Lena. This is an artistic homage to her borough’s by gone age. The lady is rocking Brooklyn grannie chic circa 1965 to a whole new level. What’s her perfume, Kashi and mothballs? Love her.

    • Alyssa Ball

And yet, this is still the least I’ve hated Lena’s hair in a good while.

    • crash1212

Discussable doesn’t mean good. But we all know that.

    • Glam Dixie

When I saw the title of this post I was looking for Michael Buble then I re-read it.

    • Lisalady161

If you hemmed the dress at the knees and altered it to fit properly, I would wear everything Lena has on. God, never thought I’d type something like that.

    • pizzaqueen

Scrolling down through the closeups almost made this like an SNL sketch and Lena Dunham was the punchline, like when Tina Fey was the new roommate on “Girls”

    • yethica

I am so tired of Lena’s “this is my faux-sexy” face. Like… just suck it up, idiot. Most of the population under the age of 35 thinks you’re the pinnacle of hipster brilliance. At least make an effort to not look like a dumbass. Then again, I wholeheartedly dislike her and everything she stands for, so I’m biased.

    • MaryMcClelland

I love how the other two are mean girl-ing Lean. Like ugh – do we have to pose with her. Especially Kate making dead eyes to the camera and pretending Lean isn’t staring up at her. Fetch ain’t never gonna happen. That said, Lena looks better than usual, but I think the dress would look better from straight on as opposed to a side-view. Hard to tell what it looks like.

    • Coco Cornejo

      Yay, Lena. Well done.

    • http://writeslikeagirlblog.com/ nicole @ writes like a girl

it seriously looks like lena was photoshopped in. like as a meme or something.

    • El Silver Fox

I don’t care what Lena Dunham wears, i just want her to stop making that vacant Jenna Maroney ‘serious and horny’ never shut your mouth face.

    • dschubba

Is it weird that I think the bangs are an improvement? I can’t vouch for whatever’s going on behind them, but she doesn’t look like a second-grader. Unfortunately, she looks like a everybody’s second grade teacher on conference night from the neck down.

    • somebody blonde

I love Kirsten’s look, don’t mind Kate’s, but HATE Lena Dunham’s. She looks like the mother in Hairspray or something.

    • Kaonashi

Kiki looks great. Kate’s hair- ugh. Lena looks frumpy and shapeless as usual.

    • spirit52

Did you guys ingest some ‘happy pills’ this afternoon???!!!!! Lena looks wretched! That bag is so wrong for evening. Sigh…

    • what not

I don’t like anything about Kate Mara’s outfit, and the hair is just awful. How’s that for a non-take on Lena?

    • Laylalola

Lena has a waist, which makes this dress all the more appalling (because she looks like her stomach is bigger than her boobs).

    • Trickytrisha

Dunst and Mara are fine, apart from the chopped off mop hair on Kate.

I appreciate that our uncles are giving Ms. Dunham the benefit of the doubt regarding her clothing and styling choices. Me? I still think she’s having the time of her life figuring out how to bug the hell out of the part of the world that gives a damn about fashion. No one could possibly look like that on purpose otherwise.

    • trisker

I am fascinated by Lena — I can’t wait to see what she looks like. Be sure to read her “Difficult Girl” in the Sept. 1 New Yorker. It’s funny but not outrageous –in other words, it’s fascinating.

    • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

I think Lena has succeeded in her homage to Brooklyn Bubbe chic – circa 1965. Well done, Lena! I’m assuming her perfume is a delicate mixture of Kashi and mothballs?

        • JynxTheCat

          Nope

    • GenieinTX

I disagree on Lena’s hair. I sort of love it. I wish I could pull off full on retro styles. I’ve decided recently that Lena wants to be Joanne Worley. Some of her choices make me think of her and this hair totally does.

    • venusvelvet

I think Kiki dresses for herself, and doesn’t need to rely on fashion antics to get attention. Lena reminds me of hipster art students dressing in ironic thrift-wear. It gets tiresome after a while.

    • Clair Ellis

I feel like Lena is just jerking our chain now. The dress isn’t bad but she doesn’t look great.

    • Miss wks

      Who. What. Why.

    • queeniethebold

i cannot bear her. She is a loser hipster doofus.

    • Man Dala

I hate the stupid faces Lena pulls off in front of the cameras.

    • snarkykitten

I wish she’d go away. Awkward cow.

    • elzatelzabelz

Can Lena go away to a deserted island with no media with Gaga and the entire K family? Go away. So tired of her/their press.

    • livesarah

I have to say, this is about the best Lena has ever looked. I LIKE her hair! I think the only thing I would change is the dress length. She doesn’t just look good by her usual standards, this actually seems to suit her. Who would’ve thought? And thank heavens Kate Mara has gone back to a more flattering hair colour. I think Kirsten is the one who could do with an update, both for cut and colour. The dresses are all nice, and I love that Lena is wearing flat shoes.

    • guest2visits

I love Kate’s whole look, especially the little sequined dress. Kirsten’s retro look (Laugh In) is pretty too. I’m not going for Lena’s sensible sandals however, that dress needed the deployment of a hotter shoe. I think a messy blonde-do would suit Lena very well, btw.

    • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

Lena really seems like one of those chicks that always makes everything about HER…and too many other people give her the time of day and she just gets all the attention she wants but all I think is, ‘cant everyone see that shes a total dickhead?” I really dont get it. Shes like the overreacting drama queen you always have to look out for on a night out cos she cant look after herself. Who has time for that shit?

    • CJ Guziewicz

Seriously? I don’t care how cool the bag is, Lena looks like a character from “Mama’s Family”.

      • http://toongrrl.deviantart.com/ Toongrrl

        Love that show : )

    • Skippy Devereaux

Lena looks like a drag queen doing a really bad impersonation of Judy Holliday

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

      No. Lena. No.

    • demidaemon

That hair though…Jesusu girl. Stop putting Grease on repeat for your obviously way too impressionable hairdresser.

    • largishbearishAtlish

Does Kate Mara need a waxing? looks like some lip fuzz (or maybe its the lighting) going on? ugh.

    • musi_

there’s Lena doing her open-mouthed posing… this is why she’s not a red carpet troll

    • CarolWJohnson

    • Nick Pilgrim

Has Lena been cast as Edna Turnblad in the road company of Hairspray?

    • Nick Pilgrim

Girl, that is totally not your throw rug.

    • gefeylich

That first sentence made me shout with laughter. I don’t think I’ve ever done that before at something online.

Dunham is fronting big time here. It’s obvious she wants to be a fashion icon (there’s no reason to show up at so many fashion events otherwise), but she always ends up looking…well, strange at best, and like grandma at worst, and then she has to pretend that it was deliberate. She certainly is dogged, though. She’s an interesting character.
