The tuck job is not good. Also, black shoes on a black carpet probably wasn’t the best idea.

    • Bridget Smith

I don’t think we can blame her for not predicting the color of the carpet, but I think she should’ve gone for gold (or red or something) anyway.

      • I don’t blame her, I blame her stylist. That must be information available from the event organiser!

        • Bridget Smith

It SHOULD be, but we see so many people wearing things that either blend in or clash horribly with the carpet/backdrop/etc that it seems like no one ever takes it into consideration. I can’t understand why – surely smart dressing for photos would ensure that you pop against the background! – but so it is. I still think black shoes were the wrong choice, but not because of the carpet color.

          • I think the shoes are deep green.

    • I think they might be deep green, which I am ok with. I find the slight difference in the shades of black makes my eyes twitch though.

    • lsaspacey

The shoes are blueish-green, not black. Check the Fug Girls for a better pic of the color.

  • Jessica Freeman

It would have looked great with a blue top that matches those beetles. The top looks cheap…and hot.

  • Boulderista

Dark turquoise shoes were called for with this skirt and the navy purse doesn’t go. (maybe light turquoise) … but then I like matchy accessories more than the uncles do.

  • s’alright. The eyemakeup is a bit much, and she’s clearly a lot shorter than the model so the sleeves just look too short instead of deliberate. Teal suede peeptoes, something a little sexier on top (sleeveless, or a lower neckline), a bracelet and a good haircut would sort this out.

    • sagecreek

Yeah, the whole make-up job looked sadly amateurish to me. I liked the skirt.

      • demidaemon

The two of you are being so kind about her make-up when it is horrible and cause for a diva response to her MUA.

        • I read this as a “Diva Repsonse MUA” and imagined an emergency team of drag queens that could be called to the scene of horrible makeup crimes.

          • demidaemon

I like that even better than my original thought!

  • sugarkane105

I’m a firm NO when it comes to bugs on clothes. Maybe that’s just me.

    • livesarah

I’m the opposite. I forked out a disgraceful amount of money for a Milly blouse with bugs on it a few years ago- not even a particularly flattering design- just because I knew I would regret it forever if I passed up an opportunity to own something made in that fabric. Sucker, yes I am… But no regrets. Just looking in the cupboard and seeing it makes me smile!

  • GillianHolroyd

The skirt fabric reminds me of the embroidered shiny rayon/poly (“Chinese silk”) material that I see all over SE Asia in fabric stores.

  • Capt. Renault

    She’s covered in bees!

    • I like my women like I like my coffee… covered in bees!

  • FibonacciSequins

I know it’s heavy, but I love Joanne’s eye makeup here.

    • gingerella

Her eyes look amazing — like a Disney fish back when they were sexy.

    • Tracy_Flick

I was thinking the same thing, and usually the black liner all around the eye makes me rage. She may be the only person ever who can pull this off.

  • jen

I love this! The skirt is adorable and her make up looks fab.

  • MilaXX

It’s pretty but once it’s on Joanne I find myself thinking it needs something else. Perhaps a belt or a better shoe, can’t decide.

  • In_Stitches

From the neck up she looks like she’s going to the club. From the neck down she’s chic. Get it together lady!

Okay, chic was a stretch. The purse clashes, the shoes are a bit expected and the top is a bit lazy. A white oxford might have taken it somewhere.

    • White was my next thought, after thinking she could have pulled the blue or red for the top. A white oxford would have been PERFECT. She could button up the collar and put a cute chunky necklace with stones that reflect the colors of the bugs in the skirt. Argh, it would be so chic.

  • gloriana232

Loooooooooove the skirt. Not the top. Deserves better.

  • OffToSeeHim

Boy, you know you’re an A-lister when you’re going to the “Audi Celebrates Emmys Week” event! NOT!

  • frannyprof

Love the skirt, hate the top. Face looks amazing, hair is tragic.

    • Imasewsure

      What she said

  • hughman

Something about that skirt bugs me.

  • hyperionic

That skirt is way too obvious. It’s literally embroidered bugs. How is that meant to be chic?

  • Cute skirt, and great face. Wish she hadn’t tried to match the shirt to the background of the skirt – pulling the blue or red would have been cuter.

  • sherrietee

I kinda like the skirt, although the entire ensemble looks entirely too heavy and warm for August in LA. The hair is extremely unfortunate. Is she allergic to hairbrushes?

  • Imasewsure

    Wow I hate that hair

  • Wait. It’s a DRESS?

    • Just found it on Net-A-Porter – yep, it’s a dress. Now I blame Vicky Posh for not realizing she made a really cute skirt, and leaving well enough alone. I know the description says the pumps are black but I still see some iridescent green over them which make it less boring to me. But that silk top thing attached to the skirt – I hate it.

      • formerlyAnon

It’s a DRESS? Totally downgrades my impression of the look.

        • demidaemon

Agreed. Why does it look all bunchy and ill-fitting if it is a single piece?

    • OH. I thought top & skirt too – which makes the wonky waistline tuck even stranger.

  • lexilexi

    Hair is oh-so-bad.

  • Laura F.

This is cute, but the shoes should be livelier.

  • teensmom99

Baby steps just not inspired. Frankly the Beckham stuff seems so inoffensively derivative. And the blonde spaniel hair–is she trying to say: “I’m upstairs and in California now!”

  • marlie

Joanne’s makeup looks great, but I’m on the fence about everything else. The outfit is fine, but a little boring, even with the embellishments on the skirt.

  • formerlyAnon

There was a time I’d have run over toddlers for that skirt. Several years decades ago. Overall, though, the look comes off as “meh.” With a side of too much eye makeup. Which is a pity because she’s both cute as a bug AND pretty and could do better. She needs help, or better help. ETA: upon learning that it’s a DRESS, I say that she is in dire need of help or better help. No dress should look like a poorly tucked in top & skirt.

    • Qitkat

Totally too much eye makeup. You and I would look rather juvenile in this design, but my gut reaction for her was cute. I didn’t realize it wasn’t a top and skirt either.

  • Kara Keenan

The skirt reminds me of something you’d see in a Joan Rivers collection on QVC.

  • StillGary

Adore the skirt? would have liked to see it paired with a little white, round-collar blouse.

  • Is it wrong that I wish the bugs were all over the top, too? Because I don’t wanna be right.

  • SugarSnap108

She’s letting the bugs do all the work.

  • Angela_the_Librarian

    I want that skirt!

  • Qitkat

    Aww, she looks so cute!

  • Adorable! Simply stunning. Make up is perfection.

  • MarissaLG

LOOOVE the skirt! Everything else is fine, but I will definitely be on the look-out for the H&M knock off.

  • Laurel

You don’t often see such grey, grey eyes, they are beautiful!

  • HeatherMcIlrath

it seems very off season (surprise, surprise). what would possess a person to wear a black, long-sleeves top with a heavy skirt in August in LA?

celebrities: why you make no sense?

    • Chattygal

celebrities: why you make no sense?

It might be the thirty-two hours of The Simpsons but I totally read that in the voice of Homer.

  • Paula Pertile

The make up perfectly balances out the bugs on her skirt.
The top looks hot and polyester and could have been something else, better.
The hair, well, mine looks like hell today so I can’t judge.

  • Synnae

Not in love with the bag of the very beachy hair but I love everything else. Make-up is working well with the skirt and I like that she went for pumps instead of open-toed.
Unlike her hair the outifit is also totally not August but as a celeb you apparently need to constantly dress for the opposite hemisphere.

  • Judy_J

When I look at her, I see Carnaby Street, 1967. She is so perfectly Mary Quant, Yardley’s of London mod. And I love it.

    • ktr33

      good call!

  • AlisonHendryx

    Cute! For the most part.

  • Man Dala

    Face looks gorgeous.

  • So cute!

  • SuzyQuzey

    Love the skirt!

  • Modeniete

    She’s adorable.
    The two-tone extensions are tragic

  • mickiemonkey

Well, she IS cute as a bug…

  • demidaemon

I don’t know if its the eye obliterating eyeliner or the weird dress, but this look is not working for me.

  • Too much black, but the skirt is giving me grabby hands.
