A little tight around the back, but this is definitely right in her wheelhouse. LOVE that bracelet!
Unfortunately, the appearance of back fat—which I’m sure is the dress and not Julia—keeps this from being a WERQ for me.
Honey, that ain’t back fat. That’s just being a normal person with, you know, skin.
Well, I did say “the appearance of.”
I’m small and built similarly to Julia, also about the same age…I design and produce clothing and lately for myself, I’ve sadly had to change the cut of my backless dresses. Low back dresses must be tight at the waistline to fit properly, which produces the faux back fat. Move the back of the dress up to the level of where the straps meet the dress and voila, the problem disappears! Everything else is so perfect, so I hate this distraction!
Agreed. I’m 10 years older than Julia and a fairly tiny person, but the skin is not as tight as it once was, and I know enough to eschew that kind of back fit.
I feel your pain. Eschew, excellent vocabulary word!
Thank you. It’s how I make my living.
Maybe it’s a new plastic surgery trend – back lift
I don’t know, I think it’s not really a real problem! I’m not trying to dissuade you from doing something that makes you feel the way you want to feel or look the way you want to look but why treat skin that is a little less tight than a 20 year old as a problem or something to avoid?
I didn’t notice it at all on TV, this still photo is the first I’ve seen it. I loved it last night.
The halter looks like it’s a skosh too tight.
That bracelet looked AMAZING on screen. So pretty.
I know! I wasn’t expecting that booty BAM.
I really want to be her when I grow up.
Amazing draping, both from the bust and from the waist. She looks fantastic.
Ms. Louis-Dreyfus is here to pick up her award, please and thank you, keep it moving.
right!! no need to overdo it. let the word (and the bod) speak for itself…
Well, Ms. Louis-Dreyfus will pause briefly for a makeout sesh with Walter White, then resume looking spectacular…( :
Can’t go wrong with classic and pretty, love this colour for her.
Don’t love the detail on the bust, but otherwise this is pretty fab.
One of her best ever. Great color, great fit, great detailing, all while fitting the very specific silhouette she prefers. It’s the platonic ideal of the “JLD” dress
Tasteful, elegant, and flawless. She looks regal and like the goddamn TV star she is!
No wonder Bryan Cranston snogged her half to death!
I really like her hair and she looks confident and happy.
That headsuit is world-class.
It’s basic, but she looks incredible in it.
Loved the overall impression, but the weird belt bits under her breasts and the back view take the look down.
That color looks so great on her. She is my idol! I particularly admire her amazing sense of comic timing. And her billions of dollars.
From the back you can tell it’s a smidge too tight, but this is otherwise excellent.
LOVE LOVE LOVE. Color. Dress. Hair. Accessories.
I don’t know where my husband got the link from, but there’s a video out there where JLD, Bryan Cranston, and Aaron Paul do a parody of the whole Pawn Stars show where Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul run a pawn shop called Barely Legal Pawn and JLD comes in as a customer to try and pawn one of her Emmys. If you go to YouTube and search for Bryan Cranston Barely Legal Pawn you should be able to find it. It’s highly enjoyable.
Oh thank you for this. I Love Bryan C.
And now I know why he and JLD had such great chemistry last night.
Oh thank you, that was perfection indeed! Three of my favourite actors on the screen at once! And then since I was on YouTube I went down a rabbit hole of outtakes and ephemera from Breaking Bad for about an hour. Good times.
YouTube is almost as big of a time suck for me as Pinterest. I know I should be doing something better with my time, but before I know it an hour has gone by.
Everything but the upper back is perfection.
She looks very pretty and well-put together, practically always, but I always feel like the bar is set pretty high for the “Richest Woman in America”. Can’t wait for Veep next season!
Gooooorgeous! And she never ever ages – *someone* has a portrait in the attic, that’s all I’m sayin’…
And yet her face isn’t Botox-ed to hell and back. She looks real and fabulous!
She looks great and her age, its a miracle.
This was one of my favourite looks last night. The red is spectacular on her.
Looks fantastic – patent leather buckles on the squidgy bit of my back would piss me off no end, so I am in awe that she is smiling.
Perfect from the front, fit’s just a bit off from the back, but girlfriend looks great! She is deserving of every award she wins for Veep, and she and Bryan Cranston making out has got to be my favorite moment from the night. Just love her!
I don’t love the back at all which is a shame cause from the front she looks great!
She is beautiful, but we have seen this on her before. Trying to imagine it in another color.
Find what works for you and stick with it!
I like the pleating effect and drape and also the way a slightly darker red is used for the neck and belt so generally it is lovely. However, it is too tight at the back.
This is a beautiful shape and color for her. Love the little patent belts. She looks stunning.
I thought she looked great on stage, and the kiss with Brian Cranston was hilarious. She really does best in simple, streamlined looks, no fuss.
She doesn’t age. It’s incredible.
53 years old and looking so fabulous. She has cracked the formula for dressing sexy and chic while fully owning her age. Love.
LOVE. Love that color on her.
She’s so gorgeous. I hate her. Strike that. I love the fact that she has little back fat poofs. I love that part. She looks fantastic, confident…that’s where her funny comes from.
She looks spectacular. I see a bit of Wonder Woman in this look, which is all kinds of great.
Fabulous. She owns this look and was so confident and comfortable looking in it on stage. Love her.
She’s my when I grow up I want to look like this idol-spiration. She has aged so gracefully and gorgeously.
Sorry, can’t praise; too jealous she got to make out with Bryan Cranston.
She looks fabulous, and the Elaine and Tim Whatley make out session was priceless..
Julia knows what looks good on her. I didn’t see the strap detail last night; that’s very nice indeed.
One of my favorite looks of the night, she looks polished and beautiful.
I love this, and it’s great on her, but isn’t it a little “of course” for JLD at this point? This shape and silhouette definitely works for her, but I wish she’s try something else every once in a while.
I love everything about this. Hair and makeup are beautiful.
Hey, I love this look. She looks simple, elegant and classy. ‘Nuf said.
SOOO nice to see her in a color.
Most of the people at the Emmy’s just had to show up and look good, she had a whole bit to perform and she nailed both. Way to go, girl. JLD and I are the same age, if I could look half this good I would be satisfied.
Julia looked great. Nothing spectacular, but she looked really good.
“She looks hot!” (from my 25 year old boyfriend who has no clue what her age is)
I don’t love the pieces of licorice wrapping around her ribs, but that’s minor. She looks great.
She looks great. Causal elegance–very California. That botox forehead sure is everywhere in this group. Julia Roberts’s forehead looks exactly the same. Smiling eyes, wrinkles are okay there, one needs the expression and personality, but the forehead is frozen.
This was my pick of the evening.
I had to look up how old she is — 53. Dang, woman, you look fabulous.
She is 53 years old. That is all.
I like it, but I wish she’d wear her hair curly.
Gorgeous! She really is an inspiration to me, I’m one year older than her.
She was so funny on the show; and doing more of an Elaine schtick than a Selena one for once!
I think she qualifies strongly for the “Everyone Wants to Be Me” – because I’m 41 and I absolutely want to be JLD!!!
I’m in the minority but I don’t like her hair for this event. Marlo Thomas in That Girl.
I agree! “That Girl hair” was my first thought.
I used to sleep in rollers every night in high school to attempt to get it with my pin-straight, fine hair. Makes me think of Mary Tyler Moore, too.
I really, really like this!
I’m dying from the back fat.
She just glows. I adore this woman. I do not, however, love under boob zipper darts, and yet she still looks wonderful.
She looks great! I love the style and color on her. She’s great on Veep, but the later-years Elaine is my idol!
I don’t think that’s back fat, it’s just a back on a non-20 year old and/or person who eats food. It is still a glorious look and I love the strap and pleating details.
I liked this dress a lot. She looked really good on camera.
She looks so great—from the front. I get why the back is higher, a little safer but it’s not fitting well when she turns at the waist like that. She should just stand straight when she shows the back and there might not be an kurfuffle about the skin folds. Also makes her look a little broad across the ass, which she ain’t.
Major props to her hair colorist. Not a hint of grey. Not a hint of brassy. Nicely done you – anonymous hair colorist.
She looks, as always, just OK. Neither here nor there, not spectacular, not ‘meh’. Just OK. All that money and she picks the bland and unmemorable every time – maybe she doesn’t like red carpet shennanigans. She never has worn something that would knock your eye out, but that’s all right.
There we go, that’s more like it!
I thought she was gorgeous. Last night, as she moved and laughed (Hilarious bit w/Brian Cranston) and today in closeup shots. LOVE her hair!!!
ETA: OK, maybe the back closeup shows she needed a slightly different style in back. Or maybe she was sort of sticking out her fanny in that one pic for the ubiquitous bootie shot, so it was an aberration and not how the back looked the rest of the time?
I’m the same age as Julie (okay – she’s a little older than me), and I have recently come to learn that it is indeed – EXTREMELY difficult to keep a slim figure once you reach this age. I work out and eat well, but genetics come into play, and my lower belly is causing me hell. So, I really envy Julia’s figure. It’s hard to keep your belly flat like that – even with shape wear. And her back looks fine.
The belt looks cheap.
Could have worn this any time in the last 20 years. And has.
I thought this played really well on TV. So I’m willing to give her props for choosing something that did great in the venue.
And let’s all admire the shiny, multi-tonal quality of her straightened locks! Love her & her impeccable comic timing.
I think my favorite thing about this is that everything about her look is polished but effortless. LOVE her hair. She is gorgeous.
Front: Perfect! Back: Not so much…..
those weird little under-breast belt things bug a little, but other than that, she looks good.
Polished and lovely. And want her hair.
how can someone be THAT talented, THAT gorgeous, and THAT gracious and (seemingly) cool? Who was she in a past life??
Love, love, love. Love it on her! She looks great!
she looks amazing!
Love. Favorite. Amazing.
No. The lady has a rockin bod and this silhouette fits all sorts of wrong. It makes her look short and frumpy instead of glam and curvy
Oh, it’s an in, but mostly I’m insanely jealous of how good she looks.
Perfection. I smiled every time I saw her last night.
Is she Benjamin Buttons? She does not age! She looks perfect!
She looks stunning. You go Selina!
She looks sexy, happy and fun.
This might be a little weird but I think she would look incredible with a bit of grey in her hair. She is ageing really well, I think she could pull it off. The back of that dress looks unnecessarily uncomfortable, though.
Really suits her and I love her hair!
Love the dress, hate the hair. It looks very nice for the PTA meeting, but not for the Emmy’s.
Pretty. No great shakes, but not a miss either.
