We’re not normally fans of huge flounces, but the print and colors here look so great to us that we barely notice it. It also helps that her legs look spectacular. And that she’s wearing something seasonally appropriate, because if we saw one more velvet dress this month, we were going to… write something very intemperate and scolding on the internet. A virtual finger-wag, if you will.

Anyway, this look makes us happy and we think it should make you happy too. If you’d like to hold the severe hair and makeup or the suede shoes against her, we won’t stop you. But the dress is pretty fun, right?

What a cool, fun dress. I kinda wish the fun was translated to her hair and make-up.

      • unbornfawn

        Exactly.

      • Renaissance_Man_ATL

        And shoes.

    • Kathy Marlow

She likes a print on the RC, love that about her.

    • @Biting Panda

“I don’t care that whats her name is knocked up. Whatever, bitches. I’m the most beautiful peacock here.”

      • leahpapa

(wait – obtuse question alert: who’s pregnant? )

        • Jennifer Schiller

Eva Mendes, with Ryan Gosling’s kid

          • sk8tfan

Oh, I thought she meant Scarlett Johansson! Same response, though.

          • Jacob Bowen

That bitch! (There goes my one dream)

      • Jennifer Schiller

        Same exact thought

    • Emily Dagger

I both enjoy it as a dress and would like to acquire several throw pillows of the same fabric. Usually those two things are mutually exclusive.

    • elemspbee

      dress

      • littlemac8

The colors in the fabric are beautiful. Love the dress. White fingernails always look like a White Out manicure to me! LOL

    • Noah

I love this! It’s seasonally appropriate, but with an edge: a tricky balance she’s working like gangbusters.

    • TAGinMO

I just want to know how many peacocks gave their lives to make this dress.

      • Freynika

        Just the plaid ones.

    • Karen Belgrad

White nail polish will always remind me of 7th grad English class, putting Liquid Paper on my nails and calling it a manicure.

      • littlemac8

Ooops, I should have scrolled down.

    • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

Its fun and flirty without being remotely trashy, and it FITS properly! Halleluiah.

      • Janet B

Somewhat sad that we are so darn happy it fits her properly.

        • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

Soooooo true. Wealthy famous actors who are at work doing their jobs, after all should never be other than perfect.

      • scoobynacks

Well, everything but the shoes fit her perfectly. Those poor poor toes. Will they ever be the same again?

    • Jennifer Bober

The hair doesn’t bug, but the eye makeup is a bit much. Loving the dress. It’s cute and fun and YAY print!

    • KateMaryC

I think what works is that it is more than a flounce, it is half a skirt. So it’s a mullet dress, but in all the best ways. Joanie on one side, Betty on the other.

    • Jeremiah Capacillo

I love how the look achieves kitsch chic without looking tacky or tasteless. Also, it’s really cool how the dress looks like a totally different dress when photographed from another angle (third pic from the bottom)! Shoes are a tiny needle scratch though.

      • Kent Roby

        That’s the “hot” side!

    • Kent Roby

I bet she spent the whole night turning from side to side saying “HOT!”, “COLD!”. This is a fun dress, and she looks great.

    • kimmeister

Like the dress and the shoes, just not together. This dress would be better served by some black strappy sandals.

      • Kent Roby

I’m shocked she didn’t default to the SW “Nudist” sandal in black, or the teal!

    • Denise Rambo

I don’t mind the suede so much because it alternates with mesh but I don’t think I would have chosen grey shoes with this dress.

    • almondemy

I saw this before and was wishing and hoping that you would comment on it. I have a huge positive bias towards Rachel McAdams and this outfit gave me life.

    • Sarah

I loved this print on the runway, and I’m so glad to see it deployed! I sort of wish the flounce wasn’t so BIG, and I wish the shoes weren’t suede, but otherwise, yeah – good.

      • demidaemon

Me too on the size of the flounce. It needs reduction surgery.

    • Danielle

The color is absolutely spectacular on her. I’m getting a little SWAN QUEEN vibe from the eye makeup, but overall I am digging it.

      • Gatto Nero

She seems to be copying the eye makeup vibe from the runway.

    • thecitysleeps

      Wait, this is considered summery?

      • Marph

When else would you wear this, when it’s 30 degrees and sleeting?

    • Anique Ashraf

I like the hair, I think. With hair down, it could read poolside really easily. Also, I never thought I’d say this, but the mesh in the shoes lightens the whole look a lot!

    • quiltrx

(claps hands) I loved these prints in the collection and glad to see a beautiful lady wearing one so quickly!

    • SewingSiren

I’d like it better if the silhouette was as the right side all the way around. As it is it’s suffering from schizophrenia .

    • OffToSeeHim

Why can’t I stand her? I’d love this on absolutely anybody else.

    • barbarienne

My entire reaction was “Hate the hair, don’t love the makeup, but the dress is awesome for her.”

I don’t mind the suede shoes. If anything, I would prefer they were solid suede (unseasonable tho’ that be).

    • Anna

The only dress I liked from this collection! I hadn’t thought of Rachel when wanting to see it on a ladystar, but the colours look terrific on her. Hate the manicure and the shoes though (adding mesh to a suede pump doesn’t make it “summery.”)

      • teensmom99

Hate the manicure? Well what did you do with all your leftover white-out when you stopped typing and started using a computer?

        • Anna

I don’t recall, but clearly Rachel ended up with the leftover bottles!

    • Janet B

Fun. Well fitted and appropriate, huzzah.
Maybe too much fabric for my taste, but it works.

    • teensmom99

Best RC dress in ages for all the reasons the Uncles mention. And seasonal.

    • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

After checking this out a few times I came to this conclusion… Not a fan of the oversized flounce all that much…but can deal with it. What bothers me most is the shoulder…. Seems sort over oversized n clunky… not really adding anything to the overall look or drama of this dress…guess it seems too safe for such an in your face silhouette!

    • smh4748

I like that dress way more than I expected to–she’s selling it like crazy, and I am buying it. Don’t like the hair from the front, and that’s not her eye makeup.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

It looks like one of those women’s magazine features on how to turn your sarong into a cocktail dress when the airline loses your luggage.

      • Constant Reader

Or the bridesmaid dresses that the bride swears can be worn again because the flounce comes off and it’s a sheath. Except those dresses would be in a sickly mauve, sea foam green, or lavender and not this fun print.

    • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

I actually think the hair works with the dress! Very nice look.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Love that the flounce is short and is balanced by the one-shouldered top half. The colors are vibrant but not blinding, I don’t mind the shoes, The hair seems a little severe but I like that it’s up and not competing with the dress.

    • Gatto Nero

Well done, head to toe, though I’m not a fan of flounces in general (and those shoes look like they pinch). The blues especially are great on her.

    • EEKstl

I’m so dazzled by the dress that I’m not going to hold the suede shoes against her. In fact, I am so obsessed with those shoes that I want them to magically appear in my closet in time for autumn.

    • LilyVanessi

I like the fact that everything but the dress is understated. That’s why this whole look works for me.

    • BayTampaBay

Those shoes do not go with that dress IMHO. Love the Shoes! Love the Dress! However, I do not love the shoes and dress together.

    • SusannaGA

Oh, how I love those shoes. Nothing else matters to me now.

    • MarissaLG

It IS a fun dress, but I think it needs to be taken down to about 75%.

    • Qitkat

I LOVE the shoes. As cute as Rachel looks here, my first thought on the dress was that a bin of scarves got in an arm-wrestling match to see who would be top dog.

    • Daisy Walker

Hate the hair and that I can see how those shoes are torturing her toes. But errything in the middle is great!

    • carnush

Now THAT’s a summer premiere dress. Well done.

    • decormaven

The hair and makeup seem a little constricted when compared to the fun flounce on the dress. Still, hallelujah she’s not wearing winter wear.

    • EZ Pass

She is lovely, but she is one of those ladystars who looks so much better as a brunette, ditto Elizabeth Banks and, most egregiously, Abigail Breslin. Honestly what is wrong with having brown hair??? Does one actually get more work if one is blonde?

    • MilaXX

Suede with mesh. They are a million times more summery than the suede pumps we’ve been seeing. Love this whole look. She could have lighten up on the eye makeup, but overall I really like this.

    • another_laura

I really like that the hair is up, I don’t like those shoes. Overall, a very solid outing from Ms. McAdams.

    • Shawn EH

I like she chose to pick up the gray in the dress for the shoes, very chic.

    • ashtangajunkie

GORGEOUS. I haven’t seen a red carpet dress I liked this much in a while. She looks fantastic!

    • KinoEye

I love it. A fun summer dress with an interesting (and not fugly) twist. We haven’t seen that often enough lately in Red Carpet land.

    • msdamselfly

So glad to see her looking so great cause I adore her. Kind of reminds me of an Indian sari.

    • mewesley

“Summer” suede works for me…especially in that color.

    • KT

She looks great! Fun and interesting dress on a very pretty lady. The shoes aren’t setting me on fire, but they’re not bothering me that much either. Nicely done.

    • Lily

This is my favorite dress of the entire season … actually the longer version is. But Rachel McAdams? No, honey. Dress, this is not your girl!

      • conniemd

Yep. I think it looks silly on her. Not sure exactly why, except she doesn’t seem A list enough to wear it.

        • Lily

I think that was my issue. She doesn’t live up to this.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I’m just loving this print-the colors are singing, and I’m not minding the flounce, either.

    • Wink

Never thought of her style as particularly sassy or edgy, but she is all of that here. Love it!

    • Bernadette

Yeah it’s a suede shoe, but it also has mesh panels so I’m okay with.

    • evave2

      Everything puts together beautifully.

    • Violentcello

They weren’t sure if they wanted a pencil skirt or a New Look silhouette, so they went with both. But love the print.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

I rather like the hair–if you’re going to be sporting such a dramatic look, with that stunning asymmetrical neckline, then the last thing needed is a whole mess of hair hanging over one side. Or both. The makeup’s a tad harsh but I can’t really hold it against her. I’d give this a WERQ.

    • marlie

I think she looks pretty great. I love the dress, and the shoes don’t bother me. Her hair and makeup work for me, mostly, although the lighting in a couple of the shots makes her eye makeup look a little too harsh.

    • cocohall

The way the movement of the dress echoes the pattern is pretty great. I am ambivalent about her in general, but I think she looks great here. I always wonder if she is more like her Notebook character or her Midnight in Paris/Mean Girls characters. This dress seems to highlight her ability to play both sides – sweet and sassy/I could cut a bitch. I guess that makes it a WERQ!

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

      I love that dress

    • demidaemon

Sorry, I can’t support the flounce. It’s WAAY too much fabric. A fabric tumor, if you will. If it had at least 50% less volume, I could maybe agree with it.

    • in a pickle

Honestly, I think the uncles are sometimes (only sometimes) a tad more harsh on the tricky skirt than I (which makes me doubt my taste), but in this case the see has sawed. It’s beautiful fabric, a great color on her, the top looks great and the bottom would have finished a fantastic look were it just a simple, straightforward skirt. It’s not awful, but it’s skating toward that ice at speed.

    • R. L.

      I think she looks HOT.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

Beautiful colors. I wish she had used one of the prettier ones for her shoes.

    • http://vhanna26.typepad.com Vera

Interesting dress. Makeup and hair too severe.

    • Trickytrisha

I wonder if that dress would marry me? But, dang, that hair kinda is a buzz kill. Very unflattering. I’d give her a 10 for the dress, a 3 for the head.

    • frannyprof

I like it less and less the more I look at it.

    • livesarah

They copied the runway model’s makeup instead of finding something that worked for her. The shoes are awful too. But that dress is great.

    • Jacob Bowen

That dress is STUNNING and it fits like a glove!

    • Sophie

Love the dress, not so much the hair, nails and shoes. Why is her face not moving?

    • Judih1

Love the dress, but not on her. Send it to Lupita. Also her hair and shoes are wrong for this look

    • MM4321

She is the cutest. Love her and love the dress. Wouldn’t be mad at her, though, if she decided she wants to be blonde OR brunette.

    • Michelle Lim

Loving the print! I wish the flounce was just a tad bit smaller.

    • Alloy Jane

Nice dress. Shame about the makeup, manicure, and shoes.

    • boweryboy

I love the print but not the dress. Either no flounce, a smaller flounce, or make it a full skirt. Third photo from the bottom is a good indication of how this would look with a full skirt.

    • LibKat

Mostly like the dress, just not sure about all the bulk and the red in the flounce. It seems unbalanced. Sure wish she would go back to her natural dark hair color. It works so much better with her complexion.

    • yllas

Beautiful dress! Love it. Hair – meh. Shoes – ow!!! I like them, though. I love blues and greens mixed.

    • ThaliaMenninger

The dress reminds me of the Twilight Zone, which is not a bad thing at all. I kind of love it. I’m willing to take the hair and the makeup, but not the shoes. But I suppose I can overlook them on account of the terrific Twilight Zone dress.

    • alyce1213

Very pretty dress, especially for her. This dress deserves a better backdrop than what looks like a linoleum-floored hallway. I’d like to see it in a suitable setting.
Not crazy about her hair or the white fingernails, though.

    • LadyCelia

What’s the opposite of scroll down fug? Scroll down “Ooh!”

    • Ann VerWiebe

If you’re a celebrity, do they just roll you naked in a vat of wax and pull all of your hair out at once?

    • LambeeBaby

I don’t like the proportion of the flounce to the dress-up should be smaller. The print is nice. The shoes would be cute in a different color but that hair is hiddy.

    • mdcoon127

Love the dress on her – hating the hair and makeup – she is usually so beautiful – stylists what gives?

    • Imasewsure

I’m holding it all against her because she isn’t proving herself worthy of that cute sassy dress (not today anyway)

    • Andrea Lentz

i love the dress. my hair looks similar to that at the gym though…lol jk i don’t go to the gym but it sort of looks like how gym hair looks on other people.
