Nina Dobrev at Comic-Con 2014

Posted on July 28, 2014

We have to give Miss Nina some credit. Not only is she poledancing all up and down Comic-Con like crazy, she’s doing it in an array of discussable – and mostly venue-appropriate outfits. She’s a bit overdressed, but since she’s making such bold statements with each look (and indulging in some serious color play), it’s all working for us. Let’s take a look, shall we?

We’d normally consider this a bit too business-like for a setting like this, but since it reminds us of anime-inspired schoolgirl outfits, we can’t hate. The bright purple really makes it work.

The shorts really make it. If this was a dress, we’d consider it a little too pretty and formal for the occasion, but the shorts make it fun and cazh. Love the clean makeup on her.

That’s just plain hot.

Adorable dress, tragic shoes.

She needs a hair makeover, STAT. Love the shorts outfit.

And an intervention on her posing on the RC

About #4. Since when does Santino work for the Persimmon Princess? Her dress has more ruffles than a feather duster.

  • Alexis Wenceslao

    Make up is fabulous.

  • Thomas

If only they made that J. Mendel as a suit for men and I won the lottery.

  • deelup

She won the genetic lottery, and apparently the stylist one too. I think she always looks gorgeous, even when I don’t especially like her clothes.

    • KinoEye

She used to be on this show called Degrassi. Terrible show — a soap opera for teenagers, basically — but I watched it all the time between the ages of 13 and 16. I always thought she was gorgeous (those EYES) and that she’d be one of the show’s alums who actually had a career that went somewhere. She didn’t disappoint.

      • Anna

Ha! Growing up in the 80s/early 90s, I watched the original series: Degrassi Jr. High and Degrassi High. Haven’t seen any of the next generation that Nina (and also Drake) was in, but the ’80s series was pretty ahead of its time for a teen program in terms of portraying teens and dealing with AIDS, homosexuality, homophobia, abortion, etc.

        • KinoEye

Next Generation was also pretty unflinching when it came to issues like that, which was why I liked it so much. But dang, did it ever get cheesy. Cracked me up when Drake became a rapper, because to me, he will always be Jimmy, the paraplegic basketball player.

          • Anna

Good to hear that next generation didn’t gloss over those issues the way other series tend to do (or not tackle at all), despite the cheese factor. It’s funny because I don’t ever remember Degrassi Jr. High/High being cheesy, but I haven’t re-watched in some time. Might be good to revisit again for some Canadian ’80s nostalgia (and undoubtedly hilarious teen fashions). If you ever come across the originals, they’re well worth checking out.

Re: Drake, Yeah, I dunno, maybe it’s because I didn’t know him from Degrassi but when he first started getting a lot of airplay, I was like…really? Not a fan of his music at all, but I get that he’s a local hero.

  • FibonacciSequins

That third dress is by far my favorite. Suits her and the occasion perfectly.

    • Kitten Mittons

That seems like the one that is most her style. I love the shorts, too, but the third dress is hers to own.

    • Alyssa

Mine too! She looks stunning in it, and the trendy yellow pumps were deployed perfectly. I would love to own that look!

  • MilaXX

I like all of these looks except that black floral dress. It’s just fugly. The shorts are my favorite look. It’s also the best deployment of the pink shoe microtrend I have seen to date.

  • Darren Nesbitt

I don’t like the last one. It’s too frilly and aging; That look is giving me hot older actress. . . not good for a young person.

    • ktr33

yes. I have no idea if she’s 5’1″ or 5’9″ but that dress overwhelms and ages her.

  • BobStPaul

With the exception of the Michael Kors outfit, she looks absolutely fantastic, especially so with the third dress.

  • Imasewsure

The shorts outfit and the Naeem Khan are gorgeous. I seriously need that dress (and a bit of foundation garments unfortunately). That Kors is tacky tacky tacky!

  • nannypoo

That ruffly one is doing nothing for me, but I love the others. Especially the dress and the shorts.

  • Janet B

Wow, she looks fabulous 3/4 times.

    • kimmeister

      So do her shoes!

      • Janet B

Good deployment of yellow pumps and pink pumps, kind of rare.

  • Sophie

In the last dress, she looks like she has things crawling up her arms. I love all the other outfits.

  • marlie

From the top: The J. Mendel looks like a 80’s secretary’s outfit. The blue and white Naeem Khan is really cute, and saved by the fact that it’s NOT a onesie. The striped Naeem Khan dress is great. And the Michael Kors dress is really unfortunate. I hate how big it makes her look.

  • VFinn

I hate the last dress. Fussy and shape-obscuring. The shoes just add to the bad.

  • Noah

Pretty sure Naeem Khan can do no wrong.

    • conniemd

I’m sure too. He’s one of those designers who seem to like women, as opposed to Carl Lagerfeld, who hates women. His designs seem just to make women look good and he’s amazing with prints.

  • Judih1

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Naeem Khan looks – especially the one in the third photo. I need that dress STAT

  • Shawn EH

The shorts are my favorite, which is the furthest from her Vampire Diaries character. She seems to know that at this sort of event, she’s a superstar.

  • Glam Dixie

Love all of them except dress number 4, it might have potential but I think it maybe it needs someone really tall to make it sing. I don’t think it is Nina’s dress. Those shoes belong on no one ever, throw them in a dumpster.

  • GeoDiva

    The shorts are adorable!

  • Kikishua

The crayon stripey Naeem Khan is GORGEOUS. And her hair is at its most insouciant also. Definitely want to be her. Definitely am not.

  • deech_sea

The only thing I like her in is the Michael Kors; although, I agree about the joshi kosei-reminiscent look of the J Mendel. Everything else seems too body-con.

  • Dino Bonačić

a pixie cut is a MUST!!!

  • livesarah

That last dress is awful. Very Heidi Klum.

  • I love the fabric of the black floral dress, but the dress itself is way too frilly and overwrought.

  • Loving the printed looks. Don’t care much for the 1st look mainly because the skirt is at a weird length. The MK dress is really cute. But the poor styling overshadows the cuteness of the dress.

  • KES4K

I really hate the shoes in #1. Ugly and at least a size too big.

  • alyce1213

The Naeem Khan is amazing, the Kors is cute. I don’t care for the other looks.

    • conniemd

Naeem Khan also made the shorts set, which I really like too. She looks great in both, he’s a designer she should stick with – and he does know how to dress women, too.

  • I’m here for that purple and white romper thing, a sentence I never thought I would type.

  • TM

Someone’s trying to get cast in a superhero movie…

(Also, I adore the shorts one.)

  • Freynika

White button-down plus black ribbon will never not read Colonel Sanders to me. Everything else is cute, though.

  • Qitkat

I love all of these looks, particularly the Naeem Khan print shorts set, it’s so adorable.

  • Jecca2244

i love her. My guilty pleasure (or one of them) is watching The Vampire Diaries in the mornings over my coffee after my husband has left for work and before I get ready to head to my office. Modern day soap opera.

  • Winterlight

I can’t believe it. I like a formalish shorts outfit. Someone hold me!

  • KT

Other than the Colonel Sanders shirt (thanks, Fug Girls), this is all really cute. She clearly has a killer stylist, because she almost always looks great, and she manages to balance pretty & interesting quite well.

Also, I agree that the shorts totally make the Naeem Khan look work, and that’s maybe the only time that I’m glad an outfit ended in formal shorts instead of a skirt.

  • PinkyK

    Good job! *claps*
