  • This is too much. Dress, make up… just too much. She looks like she’s raided her mother’s wardrobe and is playing dress-up.

    • I agree. It’s too much. But I appreciate the effort to theme-dress.

      • True.

        • RASELMORK

That actually makes me hate it a lot more. Those poor graphic novels died for this! For shame. FOR SHAME!

    • Raspberry2012

No, she looks like she raided her mother’s recyclables and is playing dress up…

      • Touché! 🙂

      • judybrowni

“Mom, look what I made at camp!”

    • Monabel

You say that as if it were a bad thing.

  • Karen Belgrad

Project Runway table cloth and wrapping paper challenge. Designed by Blaine.

    Waaaaaayyyyyy too much volume.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

“Desiiiiiiiiigggners! Please use the Marvel Comics thoughtfully!”

      • Darren Nesbitt

        You win.

        • bitchybitchybitchy

          I try.

  • didgerdoni

    Oh. I… The… That’s… Wha?

  • GeoDiva

It looks like there should be 3 Maisie’s in that one dress.

  • kimmeister

Well, it’s certainly the right venue from such a dress. It is, however, still hideous and unflattering.

  • oatmealpie

    Bless her.

    • Fyolette

I legitimately scrolled down only to search for this exact comment

    • annla

It does kinda look like something HBC would wear if she were 13 now.

      • judybrowni

        My thought exactly!

    • annla

I just googled the designer. He always uses recycled materials, usually paper. He does have an unfortunate habit of making a beautiful dress and sticking cheap trim around the bottom hem.

Maisie was a judge for a (probably televised, I’m guessing) fashion show he organized where designers used paper. So… very like Project Runway.

    • Madam Von Sassypants

I said the exact same thing. Bless her heart.

  • formerlyAnon

    I love her.

Yes, that’s too much dress and it’s kind of ugly. THAT’S NOT THE POINT. It’s “made entirely out of recycled graphic novels” you guys!!!

And she’s young and pretty and that’s the perfect time to wear something that’s fun as hell.

ETA: I hope she put on some shit kicking boots and sashayed around the venue for a while.

    • tallgirl1204

thanks for pointing out something that changes my mind about this. It still looks like a bad alternative-materials challenge dress, but I agree that she is dressing perfectly for the venue.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

It’s interesting that the designer used recycled graphic novels, but it is still overwhelming a petite young woman. I stand my ground.

        • formerlyAnon

Be proud of yourself for standing that ground! Somebody’s got to have standards! 😉

          • bitchybitchybitchy

We BK’s are just the ones to have standards! 😉
I would be curious to see how this designer might use these materials to make other garments. I can imagine a really kicky denim-style jacket out of those vivid illustrations, a cool, 50’s style full skirt, a bustier maybe, then pair these very strong separate pieces with solid tops, bottoms, maybe a strong shoe in a color from one of the prints.

    • Janet B

      Boots would had been fantastic.

    • CommentsByKatie

I totally agree with this. It’s Comic-Con and it’s Maisie! SHE’S HAVING FUN WITH FASHION AND THIS IS GREAT.

    • demidaemon

That actually makes me hate it a lot more. Those poor graphic novels died for this! For shame. FOR SHAME!

    • Kent Roby

I give Maise credit for having fun, but the designer went way overboard, especially with the darker overlay, the volume, and the fringe. A simple outfit out of the pages would have been perfect.

    • Kitten Mittons

I read elsewhere that she wore normal-people clothes and a Spiderman mask into the CC at some point. So I think she really digs this stuff, and truly is having fun. I approve.

    • MartyBellerMask

I wish I was 1/10th that cool when I was her age.

  • hughman

“You know what nerds REALLY love… Trash Fringe. It’s the next big thing.”

  • Coolekat

Looks like it’s made of those newspaper umbrella fabric.

    • Carrie E S

      Newspapers and trashbags.

  • Glam Dixie

    Why? Whyyyyyyyy?

  • xmixiex

    So awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • littlemac8

Those panniers or whatever they’re called look like beetle carapaces which is not my go-to look. Fun idea but ill-executed. I agree it would have looked better with combat boots!

  • Jennelle

I am on board with the FUG, but the fringe on the dress is a bridge too far. Designer: “I know!…this dress is already made entirely of paper…but what? WHAT? will take it to true ComiCon levels… 80 yards of butt ugly fringe…Eureka!”

  • FibonacciSequins

    Serving Cyndi Lauper realness.

  • teensmom99

No idea who she is and I had not idea that someone is doing a live action anime version of Cinderella. I knew it was a mistake to stop reading the trades.

    • formerlyAnon

    • marlie

She’s Arya Stark on Game of Thrones.

  • jeneria

I love the dress, but it’s too much volume for such a slight woman.

  • Nancer

What fun! I totally love this for Comic Con – it’s hilarious!!!

  • semirose

Amazing. That’s how you do SDCC.

  • suzq

I think it’s fantastic, except for the fringe. Bring me my sheers!

    • kimmeister

I assume you meant shears, rather than see-through fabric?

  • rh33

“Now girls, in our next game we will take all the wrapping paper and bows and Dress the Bride!”

  • bassfemme

What fun! A comic-con dress made of comic books! Although it reminds me entirely of Jeffrey’s (Angry P-nut) dress on PR, it’s so appropriate for the occasion.

  • elirt

Considering this is Comic Con, this is actually subdued compared to the attendees. She’s young, it’s her people, works for me.

  • MilaXX

LOVE It! It’s like hideous prom dress. I find it refreshing how very teen like Maisie manages to act. In a world that tends to have it’s child stars go from 12 to 18 overnight, it’s a joy to see someone who appears to be hanging on to those teen years.

  • bitchybitchybitchy

Too much. I like the use of the comic strip print, but this dress is wearing Maisie, not the other way around.

  • Jeremy Thomas Porta

Did she find this dress in the most fabulous dumpster in the city?

  • sienna elm

If ever something was on point…this would be it.

  • Yoshio

Just when you think you’ve see the worst of Comic-Con…

  • GorgeousThings

    That’s a lotta look.

  • Kathie

I get it. But way too much dress for this tiny girl.

  • SewingSiren

She could have had a cute dress made out of one conversational print or the other . As it is, it looks like she just wrapped two lengths around her waist and cinched it with a belt.

  • ashtangajunkie

Ugly as sin, but fun and I love that a young gal is wearing it.

  • Mothra

Omg. to be a teen-age star at Comic-Con. Let her have her fun.

  • Paula Pertile

Its totally whack and I love it.

  • Mary Alice Davis

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? And is she wearing a jewel in her nose?

  • Isabella

Hoooo boy. Well, it definitely LOOKS like a dress made of trash…..

Too much dress for such a little person. I can appreciate the theme, but maaaaan. Edit, edit, edit! Also, what’s with all the straps? Is it because it’s so heavy? I can’t imagine it’s particularly lightweight…but they’re all criss-cross-y. The fringe is also horrific. It’s all horrific really. Make-up and accessorizing is also rather questionable. If you were just gonna wear black heels, at least get a pair that fit. And the bracelets are straight out of a 1998 candy dispenser.

    • whaddami

      yeah — GO MAISIE!!!!!!

  • Tanya Wade

I was wondering if this would show up here….I FLOVE her for wearing this, though I thought it was a Westwood upon viewing at another site. If you can’t have fun while you’re young, when can you? I once wore clothespins in my ears. Get on with your bad self in that comic book tablecloth/shower curtain, Maisie!

  • Drunken Housewife

Looks godawful but admirably within the spirit of the event, I guess…. although she’d have done better to make a graphic novel out of a dress.

  • nannypoo

Well, she heard the event had something to do with comics and she went with it. I love it.

  • marlie

A PR unconventional materials challenge gone wrong. Though Maisie’s makeup looks good. The rest? Let’s not speak of it again, m’kay?

  • Kirstin McAulay

Totally SDCC appropriate, and age appropriate too…. wish she’d worn her kick ass DM’s with it! Could be cosplaying and that is amazing!

  • I love it, it’s crazy, beats boring any day <3

  • Jacquie

This is what happens when you try to channel Helena Bonham Carter and fail miserably.

  • Anna

Hilariously on point for the venue, dig the eyeliner.

  • fitzg

I could have gotten behind the comics dress, including random straps AND fringe, but the discarded helium balloon overlay put it over the edge for me.

  • evave2

This is just wrong for the venue. And it’s the third time I’ve noticed a weird shoulder flap and I didn’t like it on Jessica Alba either (can’t remember who else wore the third, but I liked it). I guess that is proof that you remember what you dislike more than what you like. Her makeup looks ‘way too mature (I know she is about a decade older than her character but it looks odd to see her aging herself so much).

    • Ali2044

Wrong for the venue? If you can’t wear a dress made of comic book fabric at Comic Con, where can you wear it?

      • evave2

I guess it’s the shape, everything about the design looks wrong. The fabric is tortured into weird shapes. I tried to look at the fabric again after your note and I don’t see comic book fabric. I see dark glossy fabric (which COULD be comic book color) but not bright glossy fabric (which is more often comic book colors). The dress looks so tortured to me. I don’t get it at all.

        • Ali2044

I agree about the shape and weirdness but the print is of comic book art. Like really obviously. There’s close ups and everything, I just…don’t get how you can’t see it?

  • Maggie Smith

The scroll down went something like this:

    Oh Maisie, what is this?
    What have you done?
Well, that’s some dress alright. A whole lotta dress…
OMG THE FRINGE! This is awful.

  • stubbornthoughts

Somewhere, Helen Bonham Carter is saying, “Oh honey, NO.” Because WTF is that…THING on her?

  • crashtestbonnie

I think this is a serious “coulda been” but, in total PR fashion, the designer choked at the 11th hour – “Nina called me banal last week… I’ll. Show. Her!” It’s fun and funky and tongue in cheek, totally venue appropriate, but… yeah. It went off the rails. Someone previously mentioned the actress probably being 10 years older than her character, but I think MW is an actual teenager which makes her the perfect age, imho, to try out ridiculous dresses and make up. If not now, when? Full disclosure: I’m Team Arya so I *might* be biased. 😀

  • LadyVimes

    Maisie raided HBC’s closet

  • RidgewayGirl

    Derelicte for Her Pre-Fall collection.

    • MartyBellerMask

  • judybrowni

“Look what I made at camp, Mom!”

  • in a pickle

That is one seriously last minute shower curtain Halloween costume.

  • somebody blonde

    Cool fabric, horrible dress.

  • demidaemon

That’s a big ol’ NO, by the way.

  • Dino Bonačić

cute, appropriate and bad for your eyes!! 2 OUT OF 3 – good enough for me! 😀

    At least someone’s having fun…

  • Innuendo

It looks like a garbage bag full of paper to be recycled. With a fringe. But hey! Prince of Tennis! I love that manga.

  • Maisie is my girl, at the moment. She clearly doesn’t give a shit…but in a fun, goofy way. Yes, the dress is all 80s Madonna (and not in a good way) but I think she looks cute (mainly due to the hair and face).

    Besides, Comic-Con.

  • MarissaLG

She’s giving me Jiggly Caliente Baked Potato! Love ya, girl but this shit is not cute.

  • ChaquitaPhilly

She looks wonderful, even without the sword!

  • Sam Smith

I am so team Arya! And the dress is right on point, but otherwise not attractive at all.

  • If Scarlet O’Hara had to make her dress out of old newspapers and magazine perfume inserts instead of the parlor curtains…

  • alyce1213

This might have been a good dress for the venue if it had been well-executed. But it’s a real mess.

  • A little too literal but whatever, she’s having fun with it and her hair and makeup looks adorable.

  • Kent Roby

Slight aside: has any other BK made paper garments before? I made an Elizabethan gown for a Mardi Gras bal out of paper, flour sacks, tarp, etc (theme was “Going Green”)…for the paper, I made the base in canvas, took the pieces apart, covered the pieces with magazine pages (spray-glued, then sewed down edges) and sewed pieces back together. It turned out great, but the glue really gummed up the needles. I’m curious if anyone has another/better method in case I ever do that again.

  • lobsterlen

That dress can only works at comic con. After wearing it there it needs to be burned by one of Dainerys Targaryen’s dragons.

  • MissFern

How is this a whiteboard? I so wanted to know what the uncles would make of the Derelicte campaign she’s spearheading.

  • @Biting Panda

    “Take on meeeeeee
    Take on me
    Take me onnnnnnn”

  • merciblahblah

I like the idea of the dress, though I think if it were scaled down a tad it would be better. I LOOOOVE her makeup though – so fresh! so fun! so…wait, that sounds like a commercial for feminine hygiene products in 1977, but still. I stand by my love of her makeup. Overall, I think she looks great.

  • crash1212

Perfect for the venue. Can’t imagine it working anywhere else. She’s adorable.

  • ChiKat67

She should really play HBC’s daughter in some movie so we can see them both on the RC!

  • MightyMarshal

    What the fuck, Maisy Cornflower?!

  • Isn’t that what Jiggly Caliente wore for the Apocalypse Couture runway on RPDR?

  • RescueMe23

    Oh Good God. COME ON!!

  • MartyBellerMask

    UMM… Good for her.

  • In a few years we will be calling her Helena Bonham, Jr.

  • Freynika

Sure, it’s over the top, but I love it. She’s young and cute and looks like she’s really having fun being there. I’m happy to see her out and about. She has one of the few character arcs I actually like on GoT.

  • natty_bat

That is a lot of dress for a tiny young woman, but she’s kind of making it work? Mostly because she looks like she’s wrapped in a comic book.

  • PinkyK

That dress is great for comic con in theory. Too bad it’s making her look HUGE!

  • carrie

    Oh JAYzuss!

  • KayEmWhy

I don’t know I actually like the IDEA of it. I think this dress is for editorial displays only.

  • Dagney

okay fine, do that. GO there. but hair! hair style? anyone? Do something wild and fun and colorful with the hair!! gah!

  • Raspberry2012

The perfect dress to wear to Comic Con because it’s FUNNY…

  • Winterlight

Cute girl, way too much stuff.

  • Selkiechick

She might have been better off with something from We Love Fine or Black Milk.

  • kategs

Love the idea but the dress is overwhelming her. Her eye makeup is wonderful though.

  • Jessica O’Connell

Guess this goes under the file of TLo’s oft-talked about young-experimental-phase-for-which-she-will-one-day-be-embarrassed?

  • Bethany Fairbrother

OMG! What a mess. She needs to hire a stylist immediately. It reminds me when I made a “Blondie” dress out of garbage bags and duct tape in the ’80’s. I have to say, my dress did not have the volume and I’m not as small. By the way, my “Blondie” dress. I braided bags together to make ropes and everyone thought I was wearing a leather dress.. Of course I had to be cut out of the dress and it was for Halloween.

  • Bethany Fairbrother

Can we talk about her eyebrows? She’s kind of Danial Radcliffing me with the eyebrows.

  • Bethany Fairbrother

I knew the first time I saw this that Tlo would throw it to the “bitter kittens”.

  • Christ, is she channeling HBC? And not the crazy-fab one either.

  • KT

  • Michele M.

What the fresh hell is this?

  • Ann VerWiebe

    This is an Etsy dress.

  • MandyM

This is a dress that got someone auffed from PR, right? Surely. Because no one would really wear this, even to Comic Con. Also she needs less eyeliner and more brow maintenance.

  • sewmollssew

Is she wearing one of those ‘tattoo’ bracelets that were all the rage in the late ’90s???? It is hurting my brain; I mostly hate it, but a part of me (the embarrassing part, clearly) is really happy about it.

  • RoseJB

I love it! (Except for the fringed hem.)
    Why the hell not, eh?
