    • suzq

That is not a jumper that should see the harsh light of day. It needs nightclub lighting.

      • KateShouldBeWorking

        Or bonfire.

        • Judih1

That is what I am talking about. As in “burning IN the bonfire.”

      • Kent Roby

Thankfully she chose it for the show, didn’t change after; it looked so much better on tv.

    • @Biting Panda

Is she heading in for her hostess shift at a pretentious wine bar?

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Can you tell me if the grapes had a good life before they were pressed? Did they get enough sun?

    • hughman

I thought we all agreed never to speak of the movie “Nine” again.

      • eowyn_of_rohan

        Nein!

    • Nikko Viquiera

Factor in the harsh lighting and the fact that it’s a jumpsuit, I think she’s making it work.

    • smh4748

This is a surprisingly decent jumpsuit, but might be yet another offender in the current “Assault on the Seasons” the stars seem to be lately waging. I think this would be a lovely early September look.

    • Karen Belgrad

      JLo’s ponytail, shoes, and jumpsuit.*

*note: we’d still mock it on JLo

      • Anna

        My thoughts exactly.

      • kimmeister

When KHud does her “fierce” face it’s amazing how much she and JLo look alike.

      • FuhUgh

        Blonde Ambition.

    • lilibetp

It’s really cute down to the waist. But then it becomes a jumpsuit instead of a dress and makes my eye hurt.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

I like the bodice. When Kate’s walking the pants legs become almost clownish in the fullness around the shoes.

        • conniemd

Yes. I liked the bodice and thought “what a cute dress” until I got to the pants. They bottom of the pants balloon out and make it look worse. I really hate wide bottom pants. They remind me of the horrible bell bottomed pants of my youth.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

I immediately started restyling Kate-take the bodice, do it as a top, paired with your choice of bottom-a pencil skirt, or maybe a full skirt for fun, or slim-cut pants.

    • Victor Beiramar Diniz

it looks so simple, almost chic, on the model under controlled lighting…
but then on KHud under the harsh reality of daylight it explodes into a mess of seams! layers! zippers! zipped pockets! boob curtains!
      girl. just. no.

      • Gatto Nero

The fit on the model also looks more eased. It skims over the body instead of folding and puckering.

      • kimmeister

The fabric evidently doesn’t move very well. The pant legs look bizarre in the third picture.

        • Erin Schubert Needham

Are pant leg hoopskirts a thing?

        • barbarienne

Really. I thought it was a decent enough look, if a skosh too tight or wrong-proportioned across the hips, but then it gets really awful below the knees.

        • Violentcello

Oh yeah. Those are Clydesdale pants.

          • demidaemon

I am going to steal that term when they inevitably appear again.

    • Gatto Nero

A jumpsuit, and in that fabric, just looks suffocating to me.

      • smayper

Oh yeah. In heat and humidity….ugh.

      • Kent Roby

She wore this for an appearance on Jimmy Fallon (looked terrific on tv); I assume most studios are fairly chilly (of course, Letterman’s is notoriously cold).

    • Stella Zawistowski

HOW does she go to the bathroom?

      • eowyn_of_rohan

        Discreetly.

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

        Depends.

        • stellavision

          NICELY DONE.

        • J.W.

          Good answer!

    • decormaven

Really don’t like that black fabric and the way it’s been constructed. It puckers in the tummy area and is not flattering. Her makeup has not been the best lately- if she’s going for a new look, I hope she keeps looking.

      • Janet B

I agree that isn’t her makeup.

      • Anna

Same with her hairstyle. I appreciate trying to move past her favourite yoga topknot, but the My Little Pony fake hair isn’t the way to go either.

      • scoobynacks

Strangely fitting around the bottom of the bust too. It looks like something Charo would wear to the funeral of someone she didn’t like.

    • another_laura

For what it is, it’s not bad at all. I rather like the hair as it’s styled with this.

    • Glam Dixie

I am not having a positive reaction to this. Nothing really specific, just a lot of no.

    • Janet B

The jumpsuit looked good on tv last night, but I didn’t know who she was for a moment.

    • Anna

I didn’t know Roland Mouret collaborated with Forever 21.

    • MilaXX

I did not like how this was fitted on her last night. It looked bumpy in all the wrong places. Seeing the hem here on the blog I dislike it even more.

      • Janet B

I must’ve been too tired to notice the problems last night. Way past my bedtime.

        • Kent Roby

Yeah, I thought she looked terrific on the show.

    • mommyca

I can’t get past all the wrinkles in the midsection… and those legs are too wide!

    • Dagney

      Well, I love this.

      • Sue_Asponte

I love it too! She looks like a superhero. I can’t stop staring at her abs. Wow. I think I’d like it better without the wide legs, but still, it’s amazing.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

If it were a couple of inches shorter and didn’t have that pocket fighting for attention with the exposed zip, and she had softer hair, I would like this better.

      • kimmeister

The exposed golden zipper is the biggest offender here.

    • Danielle

I like the idea behind it, but it’s giving ghost camel toe with that seam straight down the middle.

    • KinoEye

Daylight, along with fluorescent light, is the least forgiving of all light. I think if you plan to appear in public in broad daylight, you should probably have an assistant photograph you in said daylight before you commit to the outfit. And preferably with flash, since that’s another element that’s contributing to this looking totally sloppy and weird on Kate, and quite excellent on the model, who’s working with primo lighting — and that lighting was probably partly designed to hide that weirdness in the fit and seaming.

    • Kate

Sale at White House Black Market, and they didn’t have her size. Not to mention the late-90s party-pants fabric.

    • giddypony

Weird, hating the highly visible zipper (although it did answer the question “how does she pee?”)

      • Sarah

Does it? Does she pee through her left hip?? I’m still confused.

        • giddypony

Maybe lady stars are like cats and just absorb their pee

          • MoHub

There’s always the possibility of Depends Silhouettes.

      • Carleenml

thank you. HOW? someone ‘splain please. never mind pee…how do you get in and out of it at all.

        • formerlyAnon

Rhetorical question, I know. But just to to belabor the labor & horror of it all: You unfasten enough stuff to peel it down from your shoulders till it’s all down to your thighs. Keep it all off the floor & out of the bowl, while teetering in your high heels. One handed, of course, so you have a hand free to wipe. Same single hand deals with any underwear, and god help you if you thought you needed Spanx or other compression shapewear.

Since I never in my life wore a jumpsuit as day wear, this usually happened in a hotel or warehouse event space bathroom, or worse, a club bathroom. In, in fact, some really grotty warehouse club bathrooms. In, lest we forget, high heels. After the third drink there was sometimes a bit of cheating by leaning against the stall sides with a shoulder. After the 5th, with a bit of bad luck, pinball-like bouncing from stall side to stall side. But ANYthing to keep it off the goddamn floor.

          • Carleenml

not rhetorical at all! I love your shared horror. I wish I could see the back of hers – I couldn’t really understand how it unfastened at the shoulder (but you’re right, it must somehow at the top). And you are a better woman than I be.

            • MoHub

I’m guessing the collar unfastens at the back of the neck. I’m also wondering whether there’s a second zipper on the right side so she can do a double pull and split the thing front-to-back.

            • demidaemon

This entire conversation both has educated and disturbed me, as, I theoretically understood the problems with jumpsuits, but the exemplification is beyond words.

    • http://www.dogsdotcom.blogspot.com/ Plink

      Elephant legs and feet

    • FancyPhilly

Madonnna ponytail just doesn’t look the same without the cone bra.

      • Man Dala

Ha ha I wrote something similar, I didn’t see your post.

    • barbarienne

I am not a fan of elephant-leg pants, where you become the same thickness from the knees to the ground and we can’t see your shoes. Is she Gumby?

    • didgerdoni

Just what I’ve always wanted: an outfit to flatten my chest and expand my belly.

      • Carleenml

I thought so, too. And didn’t she recently get them done to show them off more? Bad choice for that.

        • kimmeister

Or to fill out tops better. That’s the only reason I’ve given a passing thought to getting them myself.

    • what not

The fit issues around the hips and the weirdly billowy legs aren’t working here, but otherwise it’s actually a good look for her.

    • alyce1213

Cheap cheap cheap. The trouser hem and shoes are icing on the cake.

    • KT

I would think that she could totally pull this kind of look off, and yet the whole thing looks tacky and unflattering as hell. Awful styling too — that ponytail is pure costume. No, girl.

    • EEKstl

I love the neckline and bodice. I wish it were a dress. Love the hair.

      • AndieJay

        Exactly what I thought too.

    • formerlyAnon

I kind of like it, though every line and bump (and there aren’t any that are *her*) shows in the bright lighting. I am not sure if I’d think the bust worked if I couldn’t see the ripple of fabric across it quite so clearly.

ETA: “bright lighting” = sun low on horizon.

    • boweryboy

      That’s a whole lotta “No”.

    • AlisonS

I think I like it? I think that the lighting is making me question if I like it or not, which makes me think that if it’s not working in every light that then maybe it will never work at all.

    • Kent Roby

This doesn’t look great in daylight, but she looked cute (and she was adorable) on the show (and I’m definitely not a fan). The back detailing is the best part (not shown here); she danced/spun around when she first came out to show it to its fullest.

      • jonnyf8

I sure hope that doesn’t mean that you’re going to invite her to that awesome party you’re going to have with Chris Pratt and Ana Faris. I was really looking forward to it, but if Kate is there I’m really going to have to give my RSVP second thoughts.

    • quiltrx

Ugh, looks double-knit…looks like a more flowing fabric on the model.
I do wish we had ‘on TV’ shots of these to compare–I’m sure this looked better indoors. I do wonder if the puckering and bulk looked worse when she sat down.

    • PinkyK

      At least it’s season appropriate…

    • mrspotts66

      no. just…no.
i like the top, and the black and white.
but the jumpsuit as a whole looks cheap.

    • Lily

Kate dear, leave the disco finery to your mama.

    • surfergirl70

      horrible. She’s got a slammin’ bod and it’s so ill-fitting it’s unflattering.

    • Dino Bonačić

That hair was as ugly on camera during the Fallon show as it is in photos. Dog’s tale. YUCK.

    • macwell

I think she looks great! :)

    • evave2

I agree: it’s the lighting that does no favors. But maybe it’s because of the lighting I think she has Spanx-line or VPL but THAT does her no favors. I also don’t particularly like how wide the pants are, almost makes her ankles look thick.

So in harsh day-light hard to tell. Did anybody see her on the show and maybe give us indoor-light opinion.

Love the ponytail (I think it’s the lighting because I think her make-up looks really harsh or maybe her eyes are squinty in this light); like the shoes (don’t look too uncomfortable.

    • Crystal

      NO. TRY AGAIN.

    • Freynika

She looks like Gumby in mourning.

    • E. D.

No to all of it, except maybe the hair.

    • marlie

Those pants are a little too voluminous. And I can’t with the horse tail stapled to the back of her head.

    • cocohall

Gwynnie called and wants her hair and jumpsuit back. This is the second time I feel like Kate has tried to borrow Ms. Goop’s style in an effort to rebrand herself. (Cut-out dress/severe hair of a few days ago). I just want her to find her own lane. I don’t think this really suits her. Although slammin body.

    • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

I can just hear her saying ” Damn, I’ve got to peeeeeee”!

    • demidaemon

Well, look at that. An ugly jumpsuit in black and white, combining two trends that need to die. On a positive note, I like her hair.

    • in a pickle

Great example of how different the model/photographer/photoshopper can make a garment look. On the model it appears a virtually unseamed single expanse, on Kate it appears nothing but seams, folds, pockets, zippers and puckers.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

A funky pair of sunglasses could have gone a long way to rescuing this look.

    • MightyMarshal

      Sporty Spice. What up.

    • frannyprof

      Awful.

    • livesarah

It looks a bit silly. I can usually bring myself to like a good jumpsuit, despite the impractical nature of the garment. But this isn’t really working.

    • Man Dala

Camel toe oh oh oh. And that hair, she looks like Romy’s (Mira Sorvino) version of Madonna in The Blonde Ambition Tour –more specifically, the Hanky Panky video– in “Romy & Michele’s High School Runion”

      • SRQkitten

I’m quite sure this wasn’t the look her stylist was aiming for – but managed to nail anyhow.

        • Man Dala

“My shoe is filling with blood.” — Romy White

    • Dawn Cole

This does not look good in these harsh daylight pictures, but on the show, she looked fantastic.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

those too long wide bottom pants are giving her gumby legs.

    • yllas

I never can look at a jumpsuit without imagining the contortions necessary when its time to use the ladies room. Yet the jumpsuit lives on in an incarnation, every decade. Feh!

    • Karfest

She looked very cute on the show. I don’t usually like jumpsuits but this was much better than shown here and the back was stunning. I’m not usually a fan of hers but she might have won me over.

    • Julie

Kate Hudson is smiling in these photos, because she’s discovered the most ugly roland mouret to ever exist.

    • kategs

She’s slim as a wand and yet this is giving her tummy pooch! That is some harsh light she’s looking great in…

    • Chinotto

This was for a television appearance—indoors, evening, studio lighting. How it looks in the daytime on the street is completely irrelevant. Show us pix from the Fallon show; otherwise this is pointless.

    • St. Ace

I swear, I saw booth babes at this computer show we’re hosting wearing (practically) the exact same outfit.

    • dschubba

      *don’t be a jumpsuit… don’t be a jumpsuit*

      *scrolls down*

      :(

      • Saturnine

        *please be a top and a skirt . . . please be a top and a skirt . . . *

    • Imasewsure

Head to toe NO… which is a real feat… this is also head to toe Barbie but Barbie always wore the correct size… again… NO
