Heidi Klum in Versace at “America’s Got Talent” Red Carpet Event

Posted on July 30, 2014

You read the phrase “Heidi Klum in Versace” and a certain type of image swims in front of your eyes; an image full of cleavage and upper thigh and sparkles, if not leather. An image pretty much the polar opposite of this one:

Oh, sure. It’s tacky, all right. There’s netting, after all. But it’s also kind of sweetly styled and relatively demure for the Fraulein. This is not to say that we like it; just that it’s not what we expected. In truth, it’s a pretty ugly dress.

Is her makeup looking harsh or is that the weird lighting? She looks like she’s standing under a hundred flickering fluorescent lights.

I hate the dress but I love her hair and the fact that she’s not succumbed to too much “work.” She is quite beautiful.

      • MarissaLG

Absolutely true. She’s effing gorgeous. That’s why she can get away with wearing such tacky, offensive clothing.

      • RescueMe23

My first thought was – boy she is really a beautiful woman. I didn’t even notice the dress.

        • ecallaw1977

I surprised, her face actually looks prettier close up than in the full body shots!

      • Glam Dixie

The dress is ugly as hell, but she is beautiful despite it.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

        Heidi really is stunning.

      • Nelliebelle1197

I am late to the party. I have always been sorta MEH about Heidi. But this close up showcasing those wrinkles just made me love her. Amazing that she has her own face and I am really proud of her.

    • TrixieConQueso

Heidi Klum Stars in…”The Case Of The Missing Cutlet.”

      • myandyleigh

I saw that! Her right boob appears to be deflated. Surely putting her hand on her hip doesn’t make that happen, does it?

    • kbshee

Anyone using the word ‘demure’ around me from now one will be asked: “is it demure, or is it Heidi demure?”

    • HomeOfficeGirl

The lighting is especially harsh. She didn’t need the white liner… or the tight pulled back hair.

      • Rhonda Shore

I’m not feeling the Tressy hair but i think she looks good, overall. I like this dress on her.

      • kimmeister

I don’t think anyone needs white eyeliner, ever. It’s so freaky!

        • bitchybitchybitchy

White eyeliner is one of those old make-up trends that should have remained retired, along with the ultra-pale lip.

    • MarissaLG

I find that pinky ring personally insulting.

    • RussellH88

      This looks like a Stella.

      • Thomas

Imagine the monstrosities that would be created if Stella designed for Versace. Tacky frankendresses in environmentally friendly materials with slits high enough to see the good china *shudder*

        • bitchybitchybitchy

But then we could all rest easy knowing that the cotton fibers had lived fulfilling lives before they were harvested!

      • Glam Dixie

        Needs more fringe. :)

    • Anna

I think I prefer the cleavage, upper thigh and sparkles. Apparently demure for Heidi is “pageant mom.”

      • FrigidDiva

This dress is heinous, it’s doing terrible things to her figure, it just makes her look really blocky. And “pageant mom” is spot on, I could totally see some crazy mom wearing this on an episode of Toddlers and Tiaras while telling the camera that she only puts her daughter in glitz pagaents because she loves doing them–only with more crazy eyes.

        • Anna

Absolutely, pageant mom on Toddlers and Tiaras is exactly what I was picturing.

    • Danielle

I’m not crazy about it standing up and showing the whole dress, but on the show while sitting at the judges’ table, it looked pretty good.

    • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

Ver-sayce (with bonus hand movement in front of face).

    • Alyssa_T_Robot

i wanted to like this because it’s so modest for her but… i can’t. i hate it. i hate the whole thing. i just wanna see her in something drapey and easy, similar to her off-camera street wear. she doesn’t need bells and whistles, she’s heidi friggin klum.

      • Wink

The dress is god-awful… netting and asymmetrical hem! Also, her boobs look sad. I’d rather see her in something sparkly and too short instead of this tablecloth from granny’s dining room.

        • conniemd

It also gives a titscrepancy look because the right one should be where the netting is, based upon where it looks to be on the left. It looks like the right one is pushed way to the side.

          • Wink

Didn’t think this needed to be said… a garment should not make your boobs look like you’re having a mammogram.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

              for the win

      • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

        ^^^ THIS. Thank you Alyssa!

    • PastryGoddess

The combo of lighting and makeup is not helping the face look it’s best

    • Michelle

On Howard Stern yesterday, Howard told Heidi that she wears awful outfits on AGT. He said she should stop with the mini skirts since her legs are behind the desk and to wear more youthful shirts that show her arms and to stop pulling her hair back tightly. She said she’d take his advice for tonight’s (Wednesday’s) show.

      • Wink

Howard Stern giving fashion advice? And GOOD advice at that? I am DONE for today!

      • Janet B

It’s sometimes hard to get past first impressions. Howard Stern still surprises me with such comments.

    • MilaXX

I think she’s got too much highlight on the eyes, especially the inner corners. The dress is fug, but I like that she tries to dress more family friendly when promoting this show.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Looks like something from the Together catalog.

      • Constant Reader

I scrolled down to see if anyone else saw that!

        • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Maybe not so many Bitter Kittens are familiar with Together?

          • Wink

Wow. Forgot all about that catalog. Is it still around?

            • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I haven’t seen it in a while, but I bet it is!

            • Constant Reader

I just Googled it, and I think you’re probably referring to the UK one which does still exist. The American one I was thinking of was put out by Spiegel and doesn’t look like it’s still around. I saw one a few years ago, and although it was the latest edition, it was a time capsule of mid 80s cuts, colors, and embellishments. Openwork lace insets at the shoulders and necklines featured prominently.

            • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Yes! Spiegel seem to be happy to sell their mailing list though… They did love a lace inset. So Eurotrashical.

    • Janet B

    • Thomas

      A tablecloth?

    • http://fibonaccisequins.storenvy.com/ Danielle

This was exactly what I pictured when I read the phrase.

    • http://urban-gypsy.com/ Tess Danesi

Hideous dress and toxic lighting. She looks sickly. Yikes.

    • Frank_821

The dress is awful. What celeb could wear this? It gives her hot body a weird shape that’s very unflattering. I’d prefer one of her short, tight and shiny dresses to this any day. I think the majority would prefer it and be okay with it.

C’mon this is a woman who’s not afraid to make fun of herself. On the AGT this year, she’s kissed a pig and played with tarantulas! Piers Morgan isn’t nearly as much fun.

      • Leah Elzinga

totally agree with the horrible shape this is giving her. She thin and tiny, but clearly doesn’t have much of a defined waist, and this dress is NOT helping matters. It kind of looks like it’s settling weirdly over whatever support garment she’s got under there. In more positive news, Heidi Klum actually wore a lining under a dress. So there’s that.

    • Kbear

California realtor “of a certain age” at a cocktail party.

    • Dino Bonačić

the lighting is SO bad. But this is a tsk from me for the fashion (or a lack thereof).

    • Gatto Nero

The dress is horrible, and the scraped-back hair doesn’t suit her.
The lighting person should be fired.

    • joancarol

      Those shoes are mean.

    • mommyca

OMG, her hair is tragic! and her manicure is tacky as hell…. to me everything is wrong…

    • elemspbee

that dress and shoes are ugly. and her face is looking simultaneously soft and harsh. Hate the hair.

    • http://recapscallion.blogspot.com/ Claire

Something about this look says “Former ice dancer returning to commentate at regional competition” to me. I think it’s the hair.

    • Kent Roby

The worst sin of this dress (which just is not pretty, as we all seem to agree) is that it is really unflattering to Heidi’s figure.

    • seventeenwest

Frankendress! It was put together from all of the remains of other dresses.

    • Justine

So…much…frosted…makeup!!!! Is she looking for a role in the Jem movie?

    • frannyprof

This is the kind of look I least like on the Klumster. Harsh, tacky, trying too hard. Give me Heidi on a day at the zoo with her kids or shopping in Brentwood in jeans and (designer) flip-flops any day over this frosty harsh mess.

    • teensmom99

Wow–there is a dress that is not flattering to her uber-model body. Who knew?

      • Shawn EH

        Versace goes Grandma?

    • altermyego

Now Heidi is wearing long sleeves in July??
Just what the hell is going on?

    • R.A.

It looks like she had her makeup professionally done, and then afterward someone took a big puff covered in white powder and smacked her in the face with it.

    • TinyDynamo

Jesus Mary & Joseph, this is awful. You can do so much better, Heidi!

    • http://www.redriverhistorian.com texashistorian

JLo called, she wants her style back. I once bought a vinyl table cloth just like this at Wal-Mart. Made it easy to wipe off messes AND looked fancy on my table.

    • BobStPaul

      Pretty ugly dress indeed.

    • MartyBellerMask

Wow, that is one ugly dress. But she makes the same face no matter what. Hard to tell if she knows it’s bad.

    • siriuslover

Looking at that dress, I want to break out singing “Rhiannon.”

      • Wink

Even Stevie Nicks would reject this fugly dress.

    • Tracy_Flick

    • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

LUV the dress from the waist down…sleek and clean. Heidi is looking awesome, so in regard to makeup I have have a feeling it’s the light.

    • KayEmWhy

Tacky tacky tacky and this does nothing for her waistline.

    • CanIbeFrank

She’s beautiful, but something about the pulled back hair is NEVER her best look. Softness, Heidi, please.

    • KT

Yikes, that dress is hideous. Harsh makeup, bad hair. The whole thing smacks of “figure skater.”

    • marlie

This dress is ugly, but I guess I’m so relieved to not see her in a gyno-skirt that I’m letting this one slide. Her makeup isn’t great, and it’s being made worse by the crappy lighting.

    • ballerinawithagun

I’ve never understood why Heidi looks so awkward standing still. I guess she was just made to be an action figure.

    • Dreamwr8tr

Beautiful woman but she should not have gone with that hair, makeup and jewelry. It’s aging and it makes her look crazed. The dress is hideously unflattering

    • Lisalady161

Bottom back lighting does no one any favors.

    • PinkyK

Weird. Maybe it’s a transition piece for the transition from super short, super shiny, and super tight to age appropriate sexy? Buwhahahaha! I don’t believe that either!

    • quiltrx

The makeup is too white/shimmery/something. And those do seem to be hella harsh lights.
And can we talk about the ugly, pinhead hairdo? That and the makeup combine for a really aging effect.

    • http://www.readbarbara.com/ ReadBarbara

The upclose face picture looks like a total high school yearbook pose! The bad lighting just adds to the effect.

    • Nicole

Why does it look like she only has one breast in that dress?

    • bitchybitchybitchy

A lot of elements going on in this dress, fighting for attention. I’m pleased to see Heidi fooling us and going with a more covered look, but that hemline is just weird.

    • cocohall

I wonder, does she still spend a lot of time in Germany/Europe? We were in Budapest, Paris, and London at the beginning of the summer, and this dress would have fit right in, especially in Budapest. There is simply a different, and to my American eye, artificial way of dressing, styling and wearing make-up. The motto seems to be “More is MORE!” I’ve always wondered if you grow up around all the ornate architecture and churches with endless stained glass and gold filigree, that your eye is trained differently. My grandmother was from Budapest and the best word to describe her was ornate. Her clothing, her shoes, her china, her apartment, and even the way she wrapped Christmas gifts. So I’m going to give Miss Heidi what I call a “Euro Pass” and declare this good. And really,it’s hard not to like someone with a megawatt smile.

      • somebody blonde

That depends a lot on the city. More is definitely not more in Madrid and many of the Italian cities. Many people there seem to eschew colors entirely.

      • demidaemon

If GNTM still exists, she must be spending at least a month of her year there. Otherwise, your guess is as good as mine.

    • EEKstl

The dress is very problematic but it’s refreshing to see her a bit covered; she would have knocked it out of the park if the dress had been better. Good shoe choice with the white, but the reptile pattern is fighting with the busyness of the dress a bit.

    • unbornfawn

The makeup IS harsh. Downright virginal for Ms. Klum.

    • somebody blonde

WTH Heidi. What a hideous dress. What scary makeup. I can’t deal.

    • Michelle Gennari

Really odd dress. Is it the hemline? The material? Or that I’m just not used to seeing her so covered up? Don’t like.

    • J. Preposterice

Heidi, the bust darts on that dress require some kind of boob support on your part; your natural position is lower than the dress calls for and it’s making things look wonky. Either pick dresses with darts in the right place for your boobs, or invest in some bras. Seriously, lady.

    • Crystal

    • Lilithcat

It’s not short, it’s not shiny, it’s not (very) tight. Are we sure this is Heidi?

    • MissAmynae

Her head is fantastic. Dress, eh. The skirt works, but the bodice is just not attractive. Love the shoes.

    • Julie Parr

On the show last night, I thought the top looked really pretty and was so curious about the bottom. It looked better on TV. Thanks for posting.

    • Trickytrisha

Bizarre dress made more so by Heidi’s aversion to brassieres.

    • CKMia

      She looks medicated.

    • Sherilyne Cox

I thought I saw her returning this frock to Steinmart last weekend.

    • flamingoNW

It makes her look like she’s got one boob, and by that I don’t mean uniboob…

    • demidaemon

I actually kind of like it, despite the Frankenstein sewing disaster that is the dress, just because it is so against expectations. It helps that she pretty much styled it perfectly. Despite all that, though, the dress is still a huge mess.

    • Columbinia

It is an ugly dress. Not even w world-famous model can make it work.

    • Dawn

      I question the taste level.

    • jif

Nice doily! Not sure it should be worn as a dress though…

    • Kittens McTavish

Heidi is just one of those people who can’t wear stark white. My coloring is a lot like hers and I’m the same way. If the dress were, say, indigo, she’d look amazing.

    • Man Dala

This looks like she’s wearing a dress that has been the result of a challenge on Project Runway called “Repurpose This Tablecloth”. The makeup is definitely harsh.

    • Joey Melliza

looks pretty decent for a Versace but the top half looks like an optical illusion — still a bad dress

    • E. D.

Those shoes belong with a better dress.

    • Aurumgirl

She’d have looked a lot better if she’d shown up in wet hair and a bathrobe. That makeup gives her all the radiance of a corpse. She’s a gorgeous woman as she is, and with the right “treatment” she looks incredible. But this is the worst I’ve ever seen her look.

    • BookManFilm

she looks like a drag impersonator of Joan Van Ark. Not a good one though.

    • Jacob Bowen

In true form, this dress is tacky, but it isn’t HEIDI’S version of tacky.

    • Trishington

Makeup is defo harsh and the hair is just so severe? My scalp is aching just looking at her. But it’s nice to see she’s found a way to repurpose her old Battenberg lace tablecloth.

    • ktr33

In the first shot, I thought, wow, what a sweet little white frock that Donatella has whipped up for Ms Klum. That was when I could only see her clavicle. Yuck.
