    • Jessica Freeman

I really love a lot of this. The florals are gorgeous.

    • Anna

      Loving the Joan Crawford throwback.

    • MoHub

I like a lot of this, but sheer skirts and loincloth panels need to die.

    • sienna elm

Nice mix of wearable and wtf-ery. This should be every designer’s goal.

      • FancyPhilly

        Perfect description.

      • Kent Roby

Plus, it’s the type of collection where it’s easy to imagine different pairings/styling, as well a ways to make some of the wtf-ery work (lining the sheers, not rolling up the pants, etc.).

    • ccinnc

The florals toward the end made me sigh. Covet.

    • Nikko Viquiera

Living for the capes! Looking at this collection just highlights how cheap looking, not to mention ugly, Dior has become.

    • PinkyK

Fan-freakin-tastic! Well….except for the Cruella DaVille – esque furs. They’re a bit much.

      • Janice Bartels

I also went straight to Cruella DeVille on the cape.

      • PastryGoddess

Perfect for wearing to the grocery store

    • Danielle

I have a lot of feelings about that glorious black and white floor-length fur coat.

      • PastryGoddess

Mine are all good. How about you?

        • Danielle

I swing between lust and unhappiness at the Cruella de Vil colors.

          • PastryGoddess

            when in doubt…choose lust

    • MilaXX

I really like this, even the sheer pieces. I’m not crazy about the Cruella De Ville furs or the toilet paper doily dresses, but otherwise this is a pretty Spring collection that feels Ike Spring.

      • boweryboy

Yet it’s a Fall 2014 collection. Fashion seasons are so skewed.

        • gabbilevy

At least when celebs start wearing them next week, they’ll look close to seasonally appropriate, for once!

          • ballerinawithagun

Yes, I had just complained about it looking Spring, but the celebs will be perfect that way!

        • MilaXX

Oops. I was on my phone and didn’t notice that. Looks like the lady celebs will be freezing once again. Although the Cruella capes make more sense now.

    • Anna

I like the floral, 50s-style dress for Elle fanning and would love to see the white gown with the cape on either Cate, Swinton, Lupita or Fan Bingbing.

The cotton candy ball skirts and the Cruella de Vil cape are downright terrifying.

      • mjude

I too like the 50’s style dress. good call on who should wear the white gown with the cape!

      • Kent Roby

I don’t know that I could handle the awesomeness of the white gown/cape on a mortal; the idea of Swinton or Lupita wearing it is just too much to imagine!

        • Anna

If it happens (and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t), it would kill me dead from the fierce.

          • Kent Roby

It would be THE BEST way to die. But heaven might be a bit boring after such a sight!

        • Sophie

I vote for Swinton, We have already seen Lupita in a cape. Though a pale blonde actress in a white cape would probably remind us too much of Gwyneth Paltrow…

    • Janice Bartels

Who comes up with these styling themes? Did they all just get done working in the garden? So many pretty looks that don’t seem to go with the heads on top of them.

      • schadenfreudelicious

I think actual turbans rather than top knot hankerchiefs would have been less distracting..

    • Gatto Nero

Lots of influence from Dior New Look, eighties Halston, fifties silhouettes. Some of the fabrics are gorgeous.

      • Kent Roby

This is more “Dior” than Dior.

        • FibonacciSequins

          Sad but true.

        • PastryGoddess

Well shit…you beat me to it

        • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

          Agreed!

    • sleepycat

      yes please covet this collection

    • Kent Roby

There’s a lot I love about this collection, especially the florals. And, Hunty, if I ever see a woman wearing that white dress/cape ensemble (especially with a gold turban); I will pledge my undying devotion to her on the spot!

      • Anna

I’ll join you. I would kneel before that gold turbaned overlord.

      • evave2

That cape is breathtaking. Absolutely the most gorgeous thing I have seen out of any of these collections.

Question: this looks more “pre-fall” than fall, as in I can see wearing this is August-September but not real “FALL” so I wonder how they put these collections together. Much more delicate than I would see true Fall which for me goes until Thanksgiving (I don’t know how Fashion people see it.)

There is a dress with a purple smush over the model’s right breast area which looks a bit like a tinier blue smush on a Dior dress yesterday. I looked at the Dior and said I would like the white delicate dress without that blush smush but I love the purple smush on the Valli dress. I guess that is where perspective comes in because Valli had “more” and in this case “more” was “better.”

        • demidaemon

I think, when it comes to the couture collections (since they are so
time intensive to create and require a whole bunch of legal requirements
to even qualify) that the seasonal applications don’t apply as much,
since, many times, a house will only put out one couture collection a
year. Anyone more in the know can correct me here.

        • Sophie

The placement of the smush looks less random on the Valli dress, since it is attached to the feather collar. Love the word “smush”.

    • http://angrynerdgirl.net/ Jessi03

Some of these are gorgeous, but I’m honestly looking forward to the death of the folded napkin dress trend. It’s been years.

    • Alyssa

When we started off with fancy pajamas, I was worried…but, the florals are so pretty!!

    • Kent Roby

Someone needs to force Raf to view this collection, ideally with his eyes propped open ala “Clockwork Orange”.

    • nannypoo

I love this. Well, the furs are a bit much, but those florals are fabulous. I especially love the one with the full skirt and flowers around the waist (Lucy Liu?) and the one with the birds. Gorgeous.

    • boweryboy

I’m not in love with the stripes, the head rags, or the ombre but the florals are dreamy and beautiful. Overall this is what I want from a couture collection.

    • http://www.snoskred.org/ Snoskred

I want to see Lupita in these massive ombre thingies. Maybe the orange to pink one, except make the top not a polo shirt. ;) Or the green or blue.

    • SewingSiren

I love the headscarves and sunglasses on some, but they over did. Overall pretty but very springlike.

    • Daisy77

      very pretty. heavenly really. but…fall?

    • YousmelllikeAnnaWintour

Some lovely work but I really hate sheer skirts. Can’t they just go away?

      • Carleenml

I thought the same – talk about the trend that just won’t die already. But other than that…fun, fun, fun. I haven’t felt that about a collection for a long time.

    • PastryGoddess

Is it just me or do some of these silhouettes look more Dior than…Dior?

    • AlexisPayne

I’m in love with this collection!
I’d wear the 3rd gown from the bottom as a wedding dress if I was getting married, simply gorgeous!

    • FibonacciSequins

Seems like a spring collection, albeit a gorgeous spring collection. Love the turbans, and the idea of the headscarfs-the ones with the shorter ends look too juvenile.

      • Carleenml

I also think they definitely help draw your eye right to the sunglasses.

    • ckokopuff

This collection has Sara Jessica Parker written all over it. One of the models looks like a younger version of her.

    • Mothra

6 and 7 are real winners for me and I suspect we’ll see a lot of them on red carpets and parties. I love that pic 22 features little 3D flowery things that come off the dress like it really is growing. That’s kind of cool in some sort of way.

    • ballerinawithagun

This belongs to me!!!! Minus the Cruella de Ville and the purple fur, of course. The first striped draped dress (or shirt and skirt) is incredible! Best collection in a long time, but it isn’t Fall!!!

    • http://cakesandcakesvintage.blogspot.com cakesandcakesvintage

I’ll take one of each, please. Too fabulous.

    • alyce1213

      Gorgeous, but Fall?

    • FrigidDiva

The headscarves and sunglasses read summer and not fall to me, but I’m really loving the old Hollywood feel to the collection without it being a literal interpretation.

    • Thomas

The styling makes me think Rosie the Riveter goes Haute Couture. Great collection overall. I love the gown second from the bottom.

    • Wattage

Gorgeous…but fall collection? It screams spring / resort to me.

    • decormaven

The second from the bottom look with the ruffled skirt- is that chiffon over a stiffer material? There are some beautiful pieces in this collection. Sighing a happy sigh after the Dior debacle.

    • formerlyAnon

Not sure how wearable/flattering most of this would be to non-model bodies, but I am ENCHANTED by it. I love these pieces as beautiful pieces. (Except the ombre fluffy parade float skirts.) I am liking floral prints, a rarity for me. ETA: I will almost always favor a black/white/grey stripe or stark geometric pattern but florals!

    • imspinningaround

Lord, I beseech you, please let Talbots knock off the midi dress with the mitered stripes, and send me a man to marry that I might wear the cream dress with the cape and gold flower belt as my wedding gown. In your name I pray, amen.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

Loving all the florals, except the last one in the thumbs with the sparse red roses. That one’s too washed out and curtain-y.

For some reason, the bold stripe mixing is reminding me of Jeffrey Sebelia (PR season 3).

    • Solokitty

A lot to like here, but this screams Spring to me, not Fall. Is the fashion world so much in its own cocoon that they get the seasons wrong? Heavy fabrics, suede, leather for spring, voiles and pastels for fall……

      • rhône

i think where this collection excels is actually in the way it synthesizes typically-spring prints and colors with the kind of silhouettes, fabrics, etc. that are more appropriate for cold weather. i think it’s really refreshing!!

      • demidaemon

Like I said above, I think, when it comes to couture collections, seasonal applications aren’t as applicable.

    • Michelle

Loving everything but the fur!! Kind of reminds me of Dior though.

      • Gatto Nero

Of what Dior used to be.

    • StrandedFashionista

I am in so much love with the conflicting stripes of this collection.

    • Tracy_Flick

      LOVE. Those florals!

    • Qitkat

When Rosie the Riveter rode into town on her beloved Shetland pony, together they meandered throughout the village’s lovely gardens, gathering rose buds all along the way. Festooned with the floral elements, they left town as discreetly as they arrived, leaving the inhabitants talking about the mysterious visit for weeks to come.

    • MarissaLG

Stunning. Love the black & white fur especially, but everything is really great.

    • Audrey Lee

I just can’t get over how much better the women’s collections are as a whole. This is truly an excellent collection!

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

      Menefreghistas on parade. Love this.

    • Garcia Loca

Some of these are simply breathtaking.

    • Candice Booth

I am in love with them all, which is quite unusual.

    • Jennifer Schiller

      Gorgeous. Love it.

    • rhône

      florals for fall! yes!

    • Jacqueline Wessel

I got distracted by those “mammy-esque” head things and didn’t notice any of the clothing. I’ll have to go back.

    • Jackie4g

Couture clothes and ‘do rags? I don’t get the styling of the head wear, but some of his dresses are very feminine and pretty.

    • http://heartprintandstyle.com/ Vivi N

      BEAUTIFUL.

    • Zeee

Huge 40’s vibe from this collections. I really like most of it.

    • Sara Brams-Miller

      Sigh**

    • crash1212

I’m a sucker for stripes…so this is really appealing to me! Beautiful.

    • frannyprof

This is a fall collection? feels more like resort or spring. Love the florals, but what’s up with the headpiece? looks straight out of Gone with the Wind.

    • MsMajestyk

Gorgeous! I’m digging the Double Indemnity vibe of some of these.

    • Glam Dixie

I like most of this a lot but it reads way more spring than fall.

    • marlie

I love this. Some of these pieces are really stunning. I can’t wait to see these on the red carpet.

    • Tami from Seattle

      STRIPE LOVE!

    • PinkySlinky

Best of the Fall 2014 Couture Shows…

    • d4divine

There was a gremlin in the design studio who kept throwing in random pieces of long haired fur. Unfortunately the pieces made it into the show and the gremlin was never caught.

    • lilibetp

Some really gorgeous things here. Especially like the florals and the black and white chevron dress with the full skirt. But then there’s the purple people eater – what is that supposed to be? A faux fur dress?

    • MightyMarshal

Nothing new but damn if it’s not pretty.

    • Lower L

I want to see #10 on Florence Welch. And I adore the black & white fit & flare dress in small photo #6.

    • Sly

Most people should know that just because a collection is classified as Spring/Summer or Fall/Winter it doesn’t really matter. The ladies buying these creations are going to alter it to suit their tastes/lifestyles, so they can say “line it in fur”, or “remake this in wool”, and it’s perfect for Fall/Winter. Haute Couture is another ballgame completely. These are custom made clothes.

    • demidaemon

I like most of this. The sheer bits and sheer extended hems are overdone, of course, and the skirt over pants does not work, but most of it is cool and chic.

      • conniemd

I really liked the collection except I wanted to rip off all of the peplum/pockets/excess material at the hips on some of them. I really loved the flowered looks. The clothes have Cate Blanchett’s name written all over them, particularly the floor length dress and cape with the copper flowered belt and the flowered blouse and skirt directly below it. The blouse has sewn on flowers and Cate seems to love her couture with things that stick up sewn onto the fabric (is there a term for that?)

        • demidaemon

I do agree about the over folded bits. Not sure if it has a technical name, though more designery kittens could probably tell us.

    • bunnydiet

This was much better than the other 2. There is a lot here.

    • Sophie

I really like look n.4 with the different stripes, despite the huge bow in front. There’s also a black and white dress with chevrons in the additional pictures I really like. And of course, the white cape gown is amazing.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Save for the granny panties/sheer covering material (may my eyes never see such nonsense again), this is a very beautiful and wearable collection. A couple of eyebrow-raising moments (black material alternating with clear plastic at the hems) but nothing of laugh-out-loud ridiculousness. A vibe of “clothing for larger than life personalities” came through for me. I could see Crawford wearing some of these. Or Maria Callas (esp. the black jump suit with the gold accents). Or either of the Hepburn ladies–Kate in the trouser outfits, Audrey in the dresses with the floral bodices that fade away to tulle and lace.

      To quote @kiltdntiltd, “me likey”.

    • quiltrx

Most of this is just my kind of thing. Pretty colors, black and white mixed in, florals…and those gorgeous full skirts (what Dior SHOULD be doing!).
I wish I could have (and fit into) almost all of this. But in a pinch, I’ll take that full-skirted chevron dress (small picture) and a wisteria jacket, please.

    • http://kittysdrawings.com Esz

Fresh! Love most of this. The big puffy things with the polo shirts not so much but the rest is interesting.

    • altermyego

Normally I hate it when designers put a sheer panel at the bottom of a skirt. But I think these striped ones look pretty good.

The pink and red ball gown, second from the end…a bowling shirt with a princess skirt? No thanks. Too schizo.

    • martha

      How is this Fall?!?

    • Angela Cotsones Shea

Does anyone else think “I don’t know nothing ’bout birthin’ no babies” with those head scarves

    • lilazander

I LOVE it; finally something beautiful and weareable at the same time. The florals are gorgeous!
