LOVING the wig and costume. We have no idea what this is about but based on these shots alone, we’re sold.

You all have permission to use that last shot for your Facebook profiles. We insist.

It’s like Edina Monsoon took fashion tips from Emma Thompson’s homeless lady character from Angels in America

      • Alexis Wenceslao

Also: Shirley MacLaine after Warren Beatty’s Hollywood parties.

    • MoHub

I’m with you guys. Not a clue what this is about but dying to see it.

      • tereliz

As long as Begbie is in it, I’ll watch.

    • barbarienne

      Emma Thompson is a treasure.

But I admit mostly I want to see this movie as a chance to listen to Robert Carlyle talk. He’s pulled into the lead of “voices I could listen to read the phone book,” almost entirely because of his delicious accent.

      • http://angrynerdgirl.net/ Jessi03

I have had a massive crush on him ever since The Fully Monty came out. No shame.

        • Heatherbelle

I’ve had a massive crush on him ever since watching him in “Hamish Macbeth” – I loved that programme!

          • http://angrynerdgirl.net/ Jessi03

You beat me to him! I’ll have to check that show out.

            • barbarienne

I admit I’m a latecomer to the Cult of Carlyle, but he’s 95% of the reason I watch Once Upon a Time.

          • Corsetmaker

            I loved that too 😀

          • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Hamish Macbeth was so good! Is it true that in the US it was screened with subtitles?

        • tereliz

          “I believe in miracles…”

          • http://angrynerdgirl.net/ Jessi03

So sexy. I even had that as my voicemail back then.

      • quiltrx

I adore Robert Carlyle! I never get tired of he and Guy Pearce squaring off in ‘Ravenous’.
And they’re saying there’s gonna be a Trainspotting sequel (or some such)…I say Begbie is a *requirement*!

    • NMMagpie

      I love this woman!

    • Coleen

I want to have drinks with her in that wig and fur. In the rubble, even.

    • SugarSnap108

My love for her — It only grows.

If she just sits on that … devil’s head? the whole movie, I will watch.

      • http://dorothydamage.wordpress.com/ Dorothy Damage

It’s a space hopper, you hold the horns and bounce around on them.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Is it possible to love Emma Thompson too much? I think not. This movie is on my must-see list for sure, just for Emma alone. Now, can we have a movie with Emma, Tilda and Helen Mirren playing three filthy-mouthed broads boozing their way through the world?

        • formerlyAnon

THAT is a buddy film I pine for.

          • bitchybitchybitchy

We can always hope for this fabulousness to happen

    • Kate Andrews

Is it a sequel to Grey Gardens?

    • colleenjanel

Do we also have permission to use the second to last picture for our FB profiles? That expression is killing me!

      • KinoEye

That was my favorite too! Priceless.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

What a fun looking character she gets to play.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/TheOctocornNetwork International Model

I want this character to be related to Charity Hope Valentine…

    • Frank_821

I just looked it up. The title character is some meek schlub played Caryle who stumbles on serial muder. She plays his boozy crass mom

      • Janice Bartels

But she’s only two years older than him!

        • Janet B

          Of course.

        • formerlyAnon

I DO hope that exclamation point was resigned indignation, not surprise. Because I’m sure you’re older than 6, and have been exposed to the entertainment media. 😉

          • Janice Bartels

I think it was an exclamation point of sarcasm. And grudging respect for the makeup artists.

      • MartyBellerMask

        Oh, god damn it.
I was enjoying them as a couple.

    • Danielle

      hashtag life goals

    • MilaXX

This is why I love her so!

    • Introspective

this calls for an NYC bk movie outing. with wine snuck into the theater because it clearly is just that kinda flick.

      oh emma, never change…

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Emma looks as if she’s having the time of her life!

    • KinoEye

4th photo is gold. That is why Emma Thompson is one of my spirit animals. LOVE

      • Kitten Mittons

She’s so wonderful. I wonder what her spirit animal is?

        • KinoEye

Hmm… something wacky and English. Maybe a bird of some sort?

          • Kitten Mittons

My British bird suggestions, based mostly on awesome names, are:

            1. Harlequin Duck (Histrionicus histrionicus!!)
            2. Great Tit (Parus major, I am not even making that up)
            3. Red-Rumped Swallow (uh-huh)
            4. European Bee-Eater – This one wears all the colors, and its eats bees so I think it gives not one fuck. This is probably the one.

            • kittentoes

              Great Tit!

            • bitchybitchybitchy

We would, of course have to know the meegratory habits and weight of the swallow…

            • Kitten Mittons

I hope not for coconut carrying purposes. It’s just not possible.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

I was reading the New York Times’ review of the Pythons’ show in London-how I wish I could have seen them!

            • Kitten Mittons

              Two tickets, please.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

I still remember when Mr.B3 and I first discovered the Pythons; I laughed so hard I almost hyperventilated.

            • Kitten Mittons

It was my best friend for me, and I think we watched all their movies in two weekends. Probably time for a re-watch of at least The Holy Grail.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

The Holy Grail is definitely my favorite Python movie. The Meaning of Life has its moments-Every Sperm is Sacred is classic, but for me you just can’t beat the Knights of Nee!, the French knight taunting Arthur, and Tim the Enchanter

            • Kitten Mittons

Definitely my favorite, too. I always liked And Now For Something Completely Different. I remember liking The Life of Brian as well, but I haven’t seen it in at least a decade or more.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

I’d forgotten The Life of Brian. My best friend was a church organist, and we shared a love of Life of Brian, and during Holy Week we’d call each other up to share the most tasteless religious jokes we could find, jokes along the line of “What did Jesus say to Peter as He hung on the cross? Peter, I can see your house from here!” I’m still waiting for a lightning bolt to zap for me laughing at that!

            • Kitten Mittons

              Those organists are trouble :)

            • bitchybitchybitchy

My best friend was terrific fun; we shared the same sense of humor, and a skepticism to “MyPalGod” church music.

            • Kitten Mittons

She sounds like she was a blast. The ones you really click with are so rare. It’s been a while since I had that person in my life.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

She was great, and left this world way too soon. I miss her every day!

            • Kitten Mittons

I’m very sorry to hear that, and sorry for your loss. Those relationships are so precious. I’m sure she was an amazing lady. It’s sounds like she will always be near your heart and mind, though, the way the special ones always are.

            • bitchybitchybitchy

Thanks, Kitten-very, very kind of you!

            • tereliz

              African or European?

            • bitchybitchybitchy

Hmmmm….Aiyeeeeee, as I”m vaulted across the void!

    • http://myriameron.blogspot.com/ Heron

Please can we all change our Gravatars to this.

    • GorgeousThings

    • NBG

And with this she is enshrined into the Hall of Fame of Batshit Crazy Aunts. Well done, Aunt Em. Well done.

    • frannyprof

      I. Love. Her.

    • Jen

I need to find out exactly where this is being filmed, must be just round the corner from my work.

      • Corsetmaker

        Red Road flats apparently.

    • Dino Bonačić

this is all I needed on a Tuesday. ALL.

    • marlie

Whatever this is, I can’t wait to see it. I also can’t wait for the poledance that goes with it.

    • http://angrynerdgirl.net/ Jessi03

Emma Thompson AND Robert Carlyle? Where do I sign up? I don’t even care what this is about; I’m sold!

    • sundaynightaddict

I thought it was Sally Kirkland!

    • Violentcello

Well, tacky British aunt is just a step away from wacky British aunt.

    • Eclectic Mayhem

I would have sworn that first picture was her mum (fabulous actress and writer Phyllida Law) rather than Emma herself. That’s frelling uncanny!

    • Gatto Nero

      Love this.
She will play the sh*t out of it.

    • LadyVimes

      Dear lord I love her

    • Tanya Wade

Oh I will. Crazy Aunt Ems and Thug Rob. My ticket is bought.

    • http://tvblogster.blogspot.com Boop

I thought Auntie Em was her mum Phylida Law in that first pic!

    • sk8tfan

I want her to be my favorite dotty but well-traveled auntie who regales me with embarrassing tales of her exploits at parties.

    • siriuslover

She is never afraid to don that crazy makeup, I’ll give her that. And I think the second to last shot will be my profile pic! 😉

    • Fuchsiaforever

Hahhahaha I think I will! (Take the photo for FBProfile)

    • demidaemon

Somehow, I have a feeling she wouldn’t eschew putting this outfit into her own wardrobe.

    • formerlyAnon

So glad she’s willing to look her age on film.

    • fromanotherplanet

    • sherrietee

as someone wrote somewhere else, “Barney Thomson is the Arthur Dent of murderers”. It’s apt. Must read. :)

    • colorjunky

IN the first picture, she looks EXACTLY like her Mum!

    • melanie0866

      Man, she is FEARLESS.

    • Synnae

This post gave me life today. The battiness is glorious to behold!

    • formerlyAnon

Animal print clothing in its natural habitat.

    • BLauDGaspode

“no idea what this is about but based on these shots alone, we’re sold.” Me too!

    • Mirko Billi

Emma Thompson in nomination Oscar fast. She is an incredible actress.
