Orange is the New Black gets rightly praised for a lot of things, but in our particular corner of the universe, part of our love for the show stems from all the new faces that showed up in our red carpet coverage. And while we could have predicted from the start that Danielle was going to love red carpeting, it was something of a surprise to find out Uzo loves it too. Then again, she once appeared on an episode of Project Runway All-Stars, so as far as we’re concerned, her bona fides have long been established.

She is serving up some Michelle Obama realness with that hair and we are HERE for it. Love the makeup, jewelry and shoes, too. Even the nail color. She (and/or her team) have a facility for the detailing, it seems. But we’re sorry to say that the fit on the dress is distractingly off. The shape and style (if not the color) are perfect for her, but it’s pulling a little too much across her midsection and the fit in the bust isn’t right. Still, she knows how to sell it.

She gets all the kudos in the world for picking such a tricky dress to pull off, but we have to say, we’d rather she scale back a bit on the trickiness. That neckline is doing nothing for her. It’s an interesting way of interpreting it, but it’s just a little too Space Age for us. We like the idea of her in a shimmery pewter, but we’re not crazy about this silhouette for her. We suspect she’d rock the hell out of a classic Joan Holloway-style; body-con with a pencil skirt rendered in saturated colors. That way, she can free herself up to have some fun with her jewelry and accessories. We think it was smart to keep them toned down for this look, but we’d rather see her have more fun with them.
Not that she doesn’t look like she’s having fun, of course.
