Caitlin Fitzgerald in Michael Kors at the “Masters of Sex” Season 2 – 2014 Summer TCA Press Tour Event

Posted on July 17, 2014

We seem to be saying this at least once a day lately (probably because the footwear trends on the RC this summer have been wildly erratic), but:

“Oooooh, girl. You had us until we got to the shoes.”

Oh God, those things are terrible. They’re like … halter shoes.

That doesn’t make everything else perfect in comparison, however. Really not loving the pink earrings at all. They look a little cheap. And the longer we look at that skirt, the more we think it should be much fuller, in a “New Look” silhouette kinda way. It’s not bad the way it is, but it lacks some oomph.

Also: Girl, That’s Not Your Blonde. She needs to bring that shade down a bit. It’s really ashy and washes her out.

Gosh, this sounded more critical than we intended. She looks good. Just not great.

    • Thomas

Very Christian Dior chic until you get to the shoes.

      • Kent Roby

I was about to say the same, that these shoes aren’t nearly as bad as the ones on the model.

        • Thomas

The shoes on the model look like the ones the nuns used to wear at my Sunday School.

          • demidaemon

Looking at them again, one might think this dress effects people’s ability to choose decent footwear.

          • smh4748

They do explain her completely resigned and underwhelmed expression.

      • Fanny_Trollope

But with all the shoes in the world, why would anyone pick those? I am baffled.

      • Dorothy & Michael n/a

Dumpy shoes on the model. Just DUMPY.

    • &theJets

Her earrings are too close to her skin color. At first look I thought she had some unusual growth on her ear.

      • Loren S

I thought they looked like candy buttons.

    • Kathy Marlow

She needs a hot oil treatment on that hair, STAT

      • ChaCha_70

True, but I’m liking the style.

    • eandh99

Well, they’re better than the shoes on the model – and this needs more colour to look like summer – why not those orange shoes Diane Kruger was wearing, and an orangey lip?

    • FibonacciSequins

I’m not feelin’ the dress. Skirt needs to be more narrow or a lot more full.

      • marlie

You and I must share a brain. :P

        • Kitten Mittons

Is three company or a crowd? Count me in.

I do not care for the makeup much, either.

          • marlie

            The more the merrier!

    • hughman

Kors tried to put this funky, hipster Wizard of Oz vibe on the dress and this chick is working to make it all Marilyn Monroe. And failing.

    • PinkyK

Those earrings look like something my 9 yr old niece picked up at the mall in Claire’s. And that hair! Ew! It needs to be Gwen platinum or golden blond like Blake Lively. Not this weird yellow.

    • Anna

That shouldn’t be anybody’s blonde, ever. I dunno if it’s my phone screen, but even her roots look damaged.

Huge fan of houndstooth but agree that the skirt needs more New Look fullness for more impact. As is looks like she wrapped and belted a tablecloth around herself.

      • Thomas

I did a report on Christian Dior and the New Look for my college History of Fashion course and the New Look had pencil skirts too, they’re just not what you first think of when you think of the New Look. This skirt needs to be a little tighter/hugging the body in order to be a true New Look pencil skirt though.

        • Anna

Completely agree, the A-line is very drab here.

    • kimmeister

I don’t mind the shoes. (Says the gal who has on semi-halter shoes at the moment.) I think the earrings and hair color are worse sins.

    • Shaeyjosan

I prefer her shoes to the models (but not much) Not a fan of the crushed breast look. love the houndstooth print. A bit more flare in the skirt or pleats or something… and just a tweak shorter. and somebody yank that bubblegum off of her ear.

    • MilaXX

Everything is a little bit off about this look.I don’t mind the shoe style, but I don’t understand the need to make dyables a thing. In leather I’d probably find these perfectly acceptable with this dress. I also dislike that burgundy/silver manicure.

    • shirab

On the topic of Michael Kors, I was just asked as a favor for an overseas teenage relative to place an order for a pair of MK stud earrings. I almost didn’t on principle: They are “golden” circles ringed with “glass crystals” and the MK logo writ large in “golden” letters in the middle. For $65. The hell?

      • MilaXX

and likely to pop up on Gilt at half the price

      • Thomas

Why does somebody want to be a walking billboard? Teenagers…

      • Imasewsure

You are a nice person but I’m glad we are here for you ’cause that’s kind of a bridge too far… use an alias

      • marlie

        They’re kind of ugly, to boot. “Golden” and “Rose Golden”? {snort}

    • SuzyQuzey

I like the shoes. They look like they belong on the show, though.

    • Sarah

Girl has got some fierce clavicles. Her makeup is not good. I would say a navy liner, or dark plum, would’ve helped. And a deeper colored lip. Her hair is almost okay on the under bits, which suggests a honey brown/blond would look nice.

    • lunchcoma

That blonde color is the same as her character’s in Masters of Sex, where the fakeness of it is intentional. I’m going to give her a very slight pass on it if she’s still transitioning from that hairstyle after filming.

    • Bad Idea Jeans

Hate the Debbie Gibson hair. Like the dress. And I’m sure I needn’t comment regarding those things on her feet.

    • Danielle

The eye makeup isn’t doing her any favors.

    • Imasewsure

Our dear uncles ended up on the critical spectrum where I began. None of this works except the hounds tooth pattern which is always a plus

    • KT

Oh my god, those are some of the worst shoes I’ve seen in a long time. UGH SO BAD

It’s a shame, since the dress is totally adorable. Terrible bag, too.

    • Terri Terri

She’s so gorgeous. Who else remembers her as THE model for Interweave Knits magazine several years ago? I think her mother was the editor at the time, but I’m not certain.

      • Megan Kennedy

Yup, her mother was the editor! I grew up down the street from Caitlin. She’s a couple years older than me and used to direct the elementary school plays when she was in middle school — I looked up to her a LOT and would just show up to her house to hang out unannounced when I was 8 or so and she was 13. She was always really sweet and would sit with me and have tea and cookies. Basically, she’s as intelligent and kind as she is gorgeous. :) (It is so bizarre and exciting to see her on T&Lo!!!)

        • Terri Terri

That’s great to hear. When I first watched the show I said to myself “Wow, she really looks like that Interweave Knits gal, but that can’t be…. Finally I had to look it up! Thanks for the story, that’s really cool. P.S. I preferred the old format of the magazine, don’t really care for what the current editor did with the set-up.

    • http://www.lindamerrill.com/ Linda Merrill

This is the dress that needed the ubiquitous yellow pumps, preferably patent leather.

      • conniemd

This. Or red pumps. Those are one pair of ugly ass shoes.

    • Janet B

The sum is greater than the parts

    • Sophie

Don’t like the earrings and the smirk. A bit more fullness to the dress might be better, but I still like it, maybe because I love houndstooth.

    • luludexter

love the houndstooth – how cute this could be with some red wedge sandals or kitten heels and the right earrings

    • SewingSiren

Very cute retro pin-up look. I even like the shoes, they are kind of like training mules.

    • BLauDGaspode

I thought she had some growth or tumor on her ear; probably not what she was going for, judging by the smirk on her face.

    • SusannaGA

On the show her hair is a rich golden blonde, very shiny and natural-looking and so much prettier than this. She’s incredibly gorgeous in the role.

    • marlie

Cute dress, I like it. I think I’d like the skirt a bit better if it were either wider or narrower. This is a weird in-between silhouette. Those shoes should be set on fire. The earrings are so bland that I didn’t notice them the first time around. And that is totally not her shade of blonde.

    • http://www.chifleschips.com Stefanie Argudo Mackenzie

The shoes she’s wearing are for damn sure better than those clodhoppers on the model. Damn, them’s some uuuugly shoes.

    • cocohall

It would seem any shoe would be an improvement on the pilgrim shoes on the model; but hers really are in a race to finish last, are they not? The dress is cute, but needs to be shorter or have more volume. This just looks like the dress has deflated after a long evening. I have no idea who she is, but she’s a pretty little minx even with her oddly orthopedic shoes. That black fabric looks like it was designed to improve circulation.

    • demidaemon

Agreed. Deep hatred for the shoes.

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

Jeez, I think she looks great

    • DeTrop

Does anyone see Kate Hudson here? Love the dress but that’s all.

    • smayper

I wholeheartedly love and covet that dress. I didn’t even notice the earrings, shoes, or hair — I was so deep into my dress lust.

    • Qitkat

That’s a smashing dress. The pink earrings are a little blobby but I like that there is where she chose to pop the color. Her sassy face almost redeems the scrunchy hair. I don’t hate the shoes but they would fall off my feet in a showtime minnit.

    • quiltrx

I like the dress a lot, but fuller would really sing, I agree.
Shame about the hair color, and it looks really dry…I like the cut/style.

    • evave2

Halter shoes. I have to remember that.

    • Mona_Visa

“Smashing” is the word that comes to mind, and not in a good way. Too tight across the chest.

    • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Agree with all the quibbles, but that is surely the face of a woman who has just been fucked, and really doesn’t care. I like how relaxed she looks!

    • MoHub

Between the length of the skirt and the unstructured bodice, it looks as if the whole dress slipped down about 2 inches. And while the shoes are ugly, they at least appear to be the right size.

    • Baghag

      she looks drunk

    • HeisenbergHattie

I like the shoes she’s wearing. The shoes the model is wearing are funk.

    • decormaven

Thumbs down for all the reasons the dear uncles mention. Her colorist needs to rethink that shade, STAT. Little children wear cuter earrings than those pink posts.

    • Gatto Nero

Peep toes give me the icks.
There’s not much about this look I like. (I’d wear the belt.)

    • Lexie

I’m going to use this as an example when my boyfriend tisks me for packing four pairs of shoes for our upcoming six day vacation. They make or break the outfit!

    • Dagney

hmmmm…going to disagree on the shoes, they are ode to a 30’s-ish shoe and thus, I love them.

      • Boobs Radley

I like the shoes, but not with that dress.

    • H2olovngrl

I would call that more brassy than ashy.

    • http://frankbettecenter.org/ sleah_in_norcal

i like the shoes and the dress and the shoes and dress together. i even like the pink earrings. about the hiar, when you say that’s not her blonde, which blonde do you speak of? there are so many different colors on her head to choose from…

    • JynxTheCat

      halter shoes. hahahahhahasnort
