Taylor Swift in Oscar de la Renta in New York City

Posted on June 23, 2014

It’s time for Taylor’s Daily Fashion Walk, where she aimlessly wanders the streets of New York City wearing clothes that no one else would think of wearing on the streets of New York City. Always searching for the light, that one.

The perfect little ensemble for a day of flower-picking in Manhattan, as one so often finds oneself doing.

Those screams of frustration you just heard came from us, upon viewing her Barbie shoes and bag. We’ll give her some credit for almost matching the greens. Of course, it’s the “almost” part that causes the T Lo eye twitches. Instead of taking two items from different designers and attempting to match them like paint samples, how about you do a little interpreting, hon? Like, maybe the greens can be far apart from each other, instead of almost identical. Or hey, here’s an idea: Why not save yourself the trouble and just not make the attempt to match your shoes exactly to your bag? Won’t that be fun, Taylor?

We think it might have been better if she saved the pop of green for one accessory (we’re thinking bag) and used the other accessory to pick up one of the shades in the dress. Then again, this is so colorful that a neutral shoe might have been an even better idea.

I don’t use this word often, but she looks lovely.

    • Shawn EH

      Isn’t it maddening?

    • moppet

She is cute as a button, really. The only thing that seems weird to me is that she’s wandering rather aimlessly — I mean, I know all of these celeb-on-the-street things are posed, but with her, the seams are showing. With that said, I love everything she’s wearing so, purpose served.

      • Kimbolina

Agreed about the aimless thing. It does seem faker than usual. Other stars at least try to pretend like they’re going somewhere (Reese WItherspoon with her countless Whole Foods runs, etc.)

        • Imasewsure

Yes she needs the stunt Starbucks cup or the Whole Foods bag to make it work really… Reese might be too busy to tutor her, but maybe Emma and Andrew have a free moment?

      • AlarTruve

Is she supposed to stay indoors all the time? Paps of course know where she lives so there is always some wondering around….Not that hard.

  • Natalie

the outfit is adorable! i don’t mind the matchy matchy shoes and bag. The dress does all the talking.

  • thecitysleeps

The dress is cute but it becomes so frustrating when put on her. SHE’S SO FAKE IT HURTS MY SOUL. WHY DO LITTLE GIRLS THINK SHE’S A ROLE MODEL OF SOME KIND? arghhhhh. Give me Rihanna every day. At least she promotes personality. Oh yeah, the shoes/bag combo are making me want to hurl. Nuff’ said. Also her face, but that’s not fashion related.

    • Natalie

did someone hurt you as a child?

      • Don’t pull that here.

        • Ste|Lar

The author of the post shouldn’t have brought up her face in a not fashion related way. Especially when she isn’t showing hers.

        • AlarTruve

Hey, sis. I bet u are big Rihanna fans. What is your opinion about her crying foul about being beat up by Chris Brown on Rated R….and all those talks of trying to be a role model for people suffering the same…..and then hopping on a track where he is doggystyle nailing her like a cheap w/hore?

          • Hey fan gurl, DEFINITELY don’t pull that shit here. This is not the site for you.

    • CatherineRhodes

What I like about Tay is that she is who she is and is comfortable being that person. It all feels authentic, not fake at all. Why not accept that there is a woman in this world who writes break-up songs, who wears floral prints and who wants to be modest. It may not be your thing, but to harshly judge her personally in an ALL CAPs way seems unfair.

      • NightOwl

The problem is that she’s trying to sell her fans authentic/girl next door/down to earth, when she’s doing the same “the world is my catwalk” paparazzi baiting as any other celebrity trying to make sure they make the style roundup in all the tabloids. That tactic is farcical down to it’s very core. I don’t begrudge her doing what she needs to do for her career, and I don’t feel strongly about her either way, but I definitely understand the viewpoint that this twee preciousness clashes with her supposedly approachable persona. It’s very “the emperor has no clothes.”

      • thecitysleeps

I just don’t think she is authentic at all though. If she really was that girl I would have no qualms with it, it would still be a personality. But she’s like a fake, plain canvas she wakes up and paints on every day (and she doesn’t even use her favorite paints but the paints she thinks will sell) and I find it really sad for girls everywhere to have as an example. It’s my opinion, you may find her authentic, I just find it all very very fake. And to be fair, I don’t have any problems with her songs, I even like a couple of them, to my complete chagrin.

        • demidaemon

Oh, I agree with the lack of authenticity. We all know, that underneath this coat of pretty armor, lurks a powerful inner bitch. You can see the cracks whenever she doesn’t win an award she thinks she deserves and in some of her song lyrics. If she showed a bit more of who she truly was, I might like her a little bit more, at least for the honesty.

          • fursa_saida

I love her bitchy side, or as Todd in the Shadows put it, “Taylor Swift, Verbal Assassin.” Straight up Regina George. Delightful. I agree I’d like her to just let it out more, but it would completely fuck up her fan base.

          • demidaemon

True, true. Depending on how her fan base grows up, she may be forced to do this. We’ll just have to wait and see.

      • Let people vent about celebrities without reprimanding them over it. It’s perfectly allowed here.

    • AlarTruve

Give you a girl who cashes off of domestic abuse? Yeah, great role model.

  • kmk05

I would have paired this entire ensemble with flats (sandals or simple ballerinas). Everything else (including her face and hair) looks amazing.

I do wish she had darkened her eyebrows a bit (to better frame her face with the red lip), but that’s a minor quibble.

    • CPK1

Flats would be perfect here. She looks gorgeous and the dress is to die for

    • Constant Reader

Yes! I wish she’d done flats with this dress — and, as TLo pointed, out, done only the bag as a pop of green. Still, I like that Taylor is taking her twee style up a notch and maturing it a bit.

    • MoHub

I was thinking an emerald green strappy flat sandal would have been perfect.

  • Kent Roby

I have better suggestion, Tay: instead of matching your shoes to your purse, why don’t you just stay home in sweats and write yet-another song about a guy who broke up with you?

    • But she doesn’t even wear sweats when leaving the gym. This is obviously another gym-leaving outfit.

      • Kent Roby

True, she should just stay home in a mermaid gown and write yet-another break-up song.

        • decormaven

“That’ll never be me, that will never be me….”

          • Sarah

Lili Taylor: You are Not In Enough Stuff.

          • decormaven

            Ain’t it the truth.

    • Anna

Even if she did just stay home with her cat, she’d still wear a de la Renta dress. And Instagram it.

      • demidaemon

So, so true. We will never escape.

  • Kitten Mittons

Love that dress, hate the accessories with it. Not loving the hair either. I know she’s just wandering and picking flowers, but it looks so….flat.

    • Sarah

Just wandering and picking flowers in pumps with a handbag and lipstick while the paps watch because they were told she’d be wandering picking flowers….

      • Kitten Mittons

Well, even stars have to kill time until the gym opens every now and then.

        • Anna

The smoothie bar doesn’t open until 11, so…

        • demidaemon

  • Sobaika

She usually makes me pretty stabby, but that is an ADORABLE dress. I want it. Wil take out a loan for it.

  • theblondette

I would totally wear this in the city! (Though I am nowhere near – in fact I’m an ocean away from – NYC, so maybe that matters.) Although if I had far to walk on a hot day I would wear flats. But I see quite a lot of women wearing pretty summer dresses and heels on the streets of London!

  • Sarah

Green is my favorite color, but I can’t sign off on the shoes/bag. I was scrolling, and I KNEW she’d kill a perfectly cute dress with shoes I didn’t like. Also, WTF with everyone wearing suede pumps for the summertime? Stank Feet.

    • And those suede pumps cost $650. For stank foot.

      • demidaemon

Okay, that’s wallet rape for shoes with pretty much no special design features.

    • Jackie4g

All the good colors seem to be appearing in suede shoes. I love green, too, but I just don’t see green with this dress. Pick a gold and a blue and do either the shoes or handbag in one of them.

  • stayl

If I had never heard of Oscar de la Renta, I would never know or think of him as a great designer after seeing Taylor Swift. This is probably the third time I’ve seen a pic of her in an Oscar de la Renta and she does not look all that great. Maybe if I just look at the dress but not her in it?

  • LadyVimes

Hm. Tricky. On one hand I love the pop of green with the dress, on the other hand I kind of wish it was blue to bring out the blue flowers, and on the other hand (I’m an alien!) I just hate the shoes because the suede green doesn’t read well.

    • Raf

Thanks for that vision of three-armed aliens in space reading TLo! Totally cracked me up 😀

      • LadyVimes

Three arms are so difficult to style you have no idea. The zero gravity makes for more interesting poses though.

  • Siobhan Connellan

Usually not a fan but I do love this look. The almost matching shoes don’t bother me as much as the fact that they are suede. it’s June!

  • J.W.

    Beautiful dress.

  • decormaven

    “I wandered lonely as a cloud…”

  • Glam Dixie

This is so intentional and staged that it bugs but I really do like that dress and I don’t hate her hair today. The green of the shoes looks nice with the dress but the bag was a bridge too far. Or vice versa, the bag is nice but the shoes are a bridge too far. Either way.

  • Laura Abrahamsen

Love the dress, and love the lip color with the dress. Even love the purse with the dress. Then there’s the shoes.

  • ashtangajunkie

I hope she hired woodland creatures to accompany her, to complete the look.

    • decormaven

Truly. I bet the purse holds a Jambox playing bird chirps to accompany her as she strolls.

      • formerlyAnon

        You’re effing on fire today!

        • decormaven

No, this is just hitting my hot button. It’s a lovely dress, but it’s just too staged.

          • MartyBellerMask

Having finally read “Be Me or Do Me”, I am just rolling my eyes over this. Over pretty much everything I’ve seen all week, actually.

          • demidaemon

It does radically change your view of the (celebrity) world, no?

      • Anna

“A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” had to have been involved at some point.

        • Glam Dixie

Personally, I always hear, “I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream”. sigh

          • Kitten Mittons

No one for “Sing, Sweet Nightingale” ??

          • Anna

Now I’m just picturing Kanye as Lucifer the cat going, “Yo Taylor, I’m really happy you’re invited to the ball. Ima let you finish cleaning the floor…” as he stomps all over the just-cleaned floor.

          • Glam Dixie

Take my money, please make this version happen.

          • Anna

I will have to take your money to go to animation school first, but I agree that this needs to exist now.

          • Glam Dixie

Just write the treatment or whatever it’s called and let someone else do all of the grunt work. 🙂

          • Kitten Mittons

I don’t have the words to tell you how awesome that is.

I need a gif of this. NEED.

    • Glam Dixie

In the wide angle shots you can see chipmunks and some bunnies scampering along behind her. I think I also spotted a baby raccoon.

      • And little bluebirds -there must be bluebirds in there somewhere!

      • demidaemon

I wish she had the personality of Snow White, so that my brain wouldn’t automatically go to the horror version of this scenario.

    • KateShouldBeWorking

Who do you think made the dress I. The first place?

  • Gatto Nero

“The perfect little ensemble for a day of flower-picking in Manhattan, as one so often finds oneself doing.”
    You slay me.

  • Anna

This is prettiest workout dress she’s worn to the gym yet! Like the accessories, but they belong with other (gym) clothes.

  • I love all of it. The dress, the shoes, the bag, the hair, the makeup. Girl has a defined personal style, if nothing else.

  • PastryGoddess

My teeth are aching from all of the fucking twee on display.

  • FibonacciSequins

She’s coming from “the gym” again. I recognize the shops in the background.

Really pretty dress but it’s kind of getting drowned out by the green accessories.

  • Tami from Seattle

Love her outfits, but am tired of these fashion walks. It’s like only having one Barbie to play with. After seeing the same face, same hair, same range-of-motion body parts, I’m ready to put her back in the toy box then add pipe cleaner arms to my mom’s wooden spoon and dress it up.

    • decormaven

Kudos to you; this is how greatness is born. Creating your own sense of fashion instead of accepting the manufactured style.

  • formerlyAnon

She’s possibly the PERFECT person for that dress.

Also, I think you are asking her for Ph.D. level accessorizing, and I don’t think she’s got it in her. Maybe you guys should devise an exam (written and practical) and use it to test potential stylists. You could set up as a screening service for anyone hiring a stylist. It’s obvious that there’d be demand.

    (Edited for various failings.)

    • demidaemon

Sounds like a stylist agency. Truthfully, I’m surprised that no one has thought of this yet.

  • Andrea Lentz

i think she looks lovely and plays the celebrity game like a tireless champ.

  • JP

    I almost covet that dress.

  • Karen

Well now I’m just going to spend the rest of the day sulking that I down own that dress and could never afford it.

  • Reine Bron

she looks adorable and I wish I owned that dress, actually all of her dresses if I’m being honest

  • Anglow

Question from a westerner….where would a NYC girl wear a dress like this, or would she? Who was the dress designed for? Another fashion question: do stars wear designer gowns on the red carpet that were made for their size and height or are the dresses just quickly altered?

    • FibonacciSequins

To work, to lunch, errands, hanging out with friends, on a date…NYC girls would wear this dress anywhere. But probably with more practical shoes for walking around town.

To answer your second question, sometimes designers will create a gown for a star attending an event. More often, the star chooses from a selection of sample-size gowns a stylist has pulled from designer’s showroom.

      • Anglow

Okay, thank you. As for the second answer, does the stylist then have the gown altered and is that ok with the designer? Then does the star own the dress? Who else would want an altered dress? Do the samples cost a fortune like the originals?

        • FibonacciSequins

The dresses are borrowed from the designer, and I think there’s no hard and fast rule about whether alterations are ok. I imagine it depends on how the designer feels, what alterations are being suggested, and how ballsy the stylist is.

The samples are the “originals”. They’re modeled for buyers, who then (hopefully) place an order. They’re either kept by the designer, or sometimes sold in sample sales. The price is usually cheaper than what you’d pay retail.

          • Anglow

            Thanks, Fib

          • demidaemon

I think it also depends on the stylist’s clout and clientele. Someone like Gwyneth Paltrow is more likely to get the alterations she wants over someone newer to the scene. Likewise, a stylist who has created good relationships with designers can probably wheedle out more alterations than someone who has only recently started or made a career transition.

  • guyfromhoboken

I hate the bag and shoes. It has nothing at all to do with her dress. Go with a neutral or pick one of the smaller colors in the dress.

  • Janet B

Just say no to suede in the summer.
I have a straw bag with green trim that would go well with this dress, I’ll take the this one for myself.

    • FibonacciSequins

A straw bag would have been a much better choice here.

      • MoHub

Absolutely on the purse. And I’d have kept green shoes, but they’d be flat, strappy sandals instead of the suede pumps.

        • makeityourself

And there you have it. That would have worked beautifully.

  • MoHub

Suede shoes in June? With a summer dress? Just a big NO to me.

    • Wink

Shoe designers have been calling it “summer suede” for a while now, when they make suede shoes in bright colors. I suppose the re-branding is an attempt to make consumers forget that suede shoes are associated with fall/winter.

      • MoHub

Well, suede doesn’t do it for me at the best of times. But it’s a definite NAY in summer—especially in a closed-toe, stiletto-heeled pump.

        • Wink

Based on the no-suede-in-summer comments here, you definitely are not alone!

          • Aww, but what about my pink suede Adidas? I just found them in the back of a shelf a few months ago and have been wearing them since. Then again, I stopped wearing them a week ago because it has gotten hot out.

          • Wink

People wear leather shoes year-round, and suede is just leather with a napped finish. I think the texture of suede makes it seem ‘hotter’ than regular leather, so we tend to avoid it in the summer.

          • kimmeister

Yeah, I’ve always been a bit boggled by the vehement anti suede-in-summer sentiments for the exact reason that it’s just leather. But I guess that napped finished reminds people of velvet, which is not summery?

          • Wink

Suede does feel a bit velvety, with makes suede shoes seem like they would be hotter than regular leather shoes. Also, if suede shoes are in a dark color such as brown, black, burgundy… or leopard print… they really seem like winter shoes.

    • Call me Bee

Agreed. Suede in summer just says “skank boot” to me.

      • Alexa42

Have I been “misheard lyrics” this all this time, because I thought it was “stank boot”….As TSwift would say, If you were here, we’d laugh about the faking stairs.

        • Call me Bee

Oh–you are probably right! Stank boot. Either way….ick. 🙂

  • RescueMe23

Boy her gay Uncles really don’t like her! I think she looks great. To me she is always put together, and I appreciate the fact that kids can look at pictures of her that I don’t have to explain or try to swipe away from them.

  • mimi

Those shoes are so practical and officey. I’d like to borrow them for my interview Wednesday, thanks Taytay.

    • Constant Reader

      Good luck on your interview!!

    • Janet B

Perfect use for them, good luck.

  • sweetlilvoice

I love it, especially her with the flowers. The dress is just charming. I like the green bag too. She looks so deliciously out of place. Here I am! I am a celebrity bitches!

  • The print on the dress reminds me of a plastic outdoor tablecloth. I agree about the matchy/not matchy issue, but I would have reversed the suggestion and said keep the green shoes, and go with a more neutral bag. These “walkabouts” are making me roll my eyes to a possibly debilitating degree, though. What is it that she’s trying to sell nowadays, anyway, and why, and why is she photographed trying to do it? Is the world really that Taylor Swift deprived?

  • mjude

cute look, but no way suede in the summer especially with the humidity.

  • hughman

Too bad she doesn’t have a green Fitbit because she might be hitting 30-40,000 steps a day, easy.

    • Shawn EH

She’s just a nut for fitness! Maybe blue shoes, sandals even? Keep the Prada bag, though.

  • CatherineRhodes

That dress would be amazing interpreted in an edgy goth way. Like black nail polish, Doc Martens and severe make-up. I’m dead serious and if Oscar wants to send me a sample size 8 I’ll show the world how it’s done. Wink.

    • Cheryl

  • Wink

Love her or hate her, the woman looks really good in a cute frock!

  • I almost never say this, because green is my favorite color, but I don’t like the green accessories with that dress.

  • Rhonda Shore

She really knows how to wear a frock but the accessories just don’t work.

  • Kerry

she is leaving “her gym” (pilates studio) on Bowery and Rivington

  • Elizabeth Flowers

I think a blue shoe to pick up the blue in the dress would’ve been very pretty.

  • Tee

I love this dress so much, I will ignore everything else about her ensemble and officially be jealous of her for the rest of the day.

  • TinyDynamo

That dress is perfection. The green bag is such a great pop! The green SUEDE pumps? Um, no. Honey go buy some cute summer sandals, stat. Those shoes are ruining a flawlessly bright & sassy summer look!

  • MilaXX

I like the dress and bag and hate the shoe. Not just because it’s so Barbie matchy matchy, but because the shoes simply don’t go with the dress. The bag works as a pop of color. The shoes not only don’t match the bag, they don’t match the dress either in color or style. Watching Taylor’s summer of 2014 NYC walking tour makes me realize how much of a pro Reese Witherspoon was with her Parking Lot 2013/2014 tour. She made this stuff seem effortless. Taylor is just coming across as try hard.

  • titaness25

I disagree on the shoe dislike- I think she looks summery and adorable- and the model is wearing nudes and I hate how it looks.

Sometimes a girl just wants to prance around oozing floral vibes in her wake. Ain’t nothing wrong with punches of colour.

  • Cheryl

I’m not a fan, but she is really good at the cute frock wearing. I like the bag, in fact I want the bag, but the shoes, nah. Maybe just some cute, flat sandals would have been nice.

  • Danielle

I really like the dress, on basically anyone else.

  • Annmarie Kane

Did TLo suggest a nude shoe ? ::::faints::::

  • bellafigura1

I’m out on the streets of NYC today, it’s spectacular, and all the girls are in their summer dresses and their pretty shoes. So I’m not sure why you say she’s wearing something no one else would wear in NYC. The florals are on display today, that’s for sure.

  • Jacob Bowen

I am going to forget that she wore those shoes because MAGICALLY she made me love a napkin from the farmhouse paired with a beautiful green bag. DAMN.

  • msdamselfly

Such a cute dress. Too bad about the green shoes.

  • Fuchsiaforever

I’m going to say something positive: I think this is the perfect little outfit for strolling in Rome, Tuscany, Drubrovnik or even Prague, but with common sense, comfy espadrilles! 😀 I love red~

  • Jacqueline Wessel

I would totally wear this in New York City. Of course it would have to be a little longer and have longer sleeves, and I’d wear that bag cross-body. Those shoes have to go though, I have to be able to actually walk…flat sandals for me.

  • Sara__B

She knows she’ll be photographed. Instead of letting it drive her crazy she embraces it and has fun with it. Why not?

  • I love the dress and the bag. The shoes gave me eye twitches.

  • DuBey2

Love it. Great outfit for summer. Its nice to see something besides black on the NYC gals.

  • YourBaloneyDontGotNoSecondName

I suspected it but now I know it’s true. It’s a Biggie vs. Tupac, Crips vs. Bloods, East Coast vs. West Coast turf war between Tay and Reese.

    • Kitten Mittons

      Hell. Yes.
Let me get my popcorn and Mike & Ike’s. BRB.

      • demidaemon

Even though we already know who is going to win? I guess it’s more in how Reese who totally trample her, huh?

        • Kitten Mittons

Oh yes, it’s not whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game. I intend to be entertained.

    • formerlyAnon

Yup. The one thing that they share is the perfectionist control freak streak. If they share a second, it’s the work ethic required to bend the world to their respective wills. The work ethic is what keeps me from hating either of them. It’s easier for me not to hate Swift, as she’s not working a schtick with which I have negative history. Reesie, on the other hand . . .

    • Alexa42

      West coast represent

      (West coast, west coast)

      Now put your hands up

Oooooh Oh Oooooh (Tracy FLICK that florally beeyotch, Reese…)

  • snarkykitten

Excuse you, Uncles. My mother would wear the shit out of this dress.

  • smh4748

I want that dress and that bag badly! She may be silly and full of affectation, but she does silly and affected well. I really like this look on the whole.

  • MarissaLG

If she were a true New Yorker, she’d have that bag on cross-body. She doesn’t have to worry about purse snatching, though- too many paps to act as witnesses!

I don’t know guys, I’ve been seeing a lot of pretty florals, especially on young women, around the city. I think it has much to do with the magnificent weather we’re having — everybody is outside — and the preponderance of floral dresses in stores. I’m confused by the absence of black, actually.
If I saw her on the street, I’d cut the bitch for those shoes.

  • sojo

Super cute minus that sweaty suede in the summer!

  • ThaliaMenninger

Love the dress. Not into the green bag or the green shoes or the green gap in between. Besides, I think the dress would look better on a brunette. Sorry, Tay! Go find a pastel and call it your own.

  • AthenaJ

So tired of this one’s schtick.

  • CassandraMortmain

I love that dress so much! It’s just gorgeous. Don’t we all wish we could wear Oscar de la Renta for our casual strolls around the city? The bright green was a bold choice for accessories but they don’t quite work. Not awful, but not perfect either. Hair and make, on the other hand, do look perfect for a casual city day. Love the look. And seriously, can I get that dress without having to take out a second mortgage?

  • Terri Terri

Are those butterfly earrings? or poofy bows? I can’t.

  • DagnyReardon

When I first saw this elsewhere I loved it…until I saw the full shot and the almost matching shoes. Yuck.

  • Miranda

Anyone remember that scene in the movie “Soap”…where Whoopi takes Sally Fields to the mall so she can get some orchestrated love from the fans?

Taylor is so doing that scene in her only little “taylor” way.

  • queeniethebold

Anymore i’m finding it increasingly difficult to get past that prim, smug, priggish little red mouth of hers.

It’s a gorgeous dress. But she became tiresome quite a while ago.

And the green shoes and bag!!! Gagging.

The uncles are just too hilarious with the “random flower picking in Manhattan” snarkage. Oh, how you boys save the day for me more often than you’ll ever know.

  • Ashleigh

you’re right – it’s cute ’til you get to the shoe!

  • Bonnie Blue

I really love the dress, and though I like the color of green on both the shoes and the bag, I don’t know if that’s the right accent color to use here, and like some others, suede just seems too heavy for such a light floral dress in summer.

  • stubbornthoughts

Did she just sign a contract for Oscar de la Renta or something?

  • Love the dress. Some Keds or espadrilles would make this so cute and young, but instead it’s just cute. I honestly think she needs to spend some time in front of the mirror practising nonchalant bag carrying, because there is just something faintly awkward about how she carries her purse. Or that just could be because of the coltish limbs.

I’ve actually come around to the idea of suede summer shoes – since they get ruined so easily in winter by rain or snow, wearing them when the weather is nice is only practical. I am sure there are powders to combat stankfoot these days.

    • alyce1213

I’m with you on both of your footwear comments.
I’ve come around about fair-weather suede, too, like wearing white before Memorial/after Labor Day. (Is that a U.S.thing??) We have a perception that it’s only for cold weather, which is exactly when they get ruined.
The thing about suede is: 1) pretty, 2) not any hotter than regular leather, 3) pretty. I love the luxury of suede.
      But not with this dress.

      • The wearing white thing is definitely US. I’m not 100% sure when Memorial or Labor Day are!

        • alyce1213

End of May (to honor deceased veterans) to beginning of September (to honor Labor).

          • So white is for the height of summer only? I wonder who came up with that!

    • makeityourself

It would have been the perfect opportunity to showcase her own line of Keds. Which she has, you know.

      • I do know! They would be perfect.

    • formerlyAnon

Yup. I agree on suede really working better, in terms of weather, in the warmer months.

  • We know the girl has an arsenal of baby-poop colored shoes, and this would actually have been an appropriate time to deploy a pair.

  • marlie

I don’t have a problem breaking the fashion “rules” for the most part, but I really, REALLY can’t get behind suede shoes in the summer. Nope.

The dress is cute, and I hate the fact that TayTay is making me want to rob a bank so I can buy all of the adorable OdlR dresses. But the Barbie matchiness bugs. My mom is the only person I know who still matches their accessories that way, and she’s WAY old-school.

  • Peeve

I think she looks great, but share the same opinions on the shoes as other BK’s. Espadrilles would have been perfect with the dress. So cute, though!

  • KT

    Nauseating as fuck.

    • NBG

      YOU are my spirit animal.

      • KT

  • kimmeister

I was all ready to commend her for pairing the green bag with this dress until I saw the almost matchy shoes. So close. I agree with the uncles to keep the green bag and switch out the shoes. I’d say camel colored would work.

On another note, what the heck does that poor model have on her ears? They look like dragonfruit.

  • Imasewsure

Hate to say this but I really love that dress on her!! Keep the bag, ditch the shoes

  • nannypoo

If she learns to drive, one day we will see her running into Reese Witherspoon in a parking lot.

  • FridaStaire

That dress looks so great on the model! On Taylor, it’s just OK.

  • Little_Olive

It’s too much shoe and the bag is overkill. Wear sandals, honey. It’s summer.

  • brown-eyed girl

I gotta’ admit, I saw the words Taylor Swift and rolled my eyes. It’s is a cute dress and she’s a pretty girl, but the flower picking looks like something out of the credits for The Taylor Swift Show. If you were just strolling the streets of NYC, wouldn’t you wear more comfortable shoes? Or is that my bunions talking?

    • NBG

The cynical answer is, she doesn’t need to wear comfy shoes because she only walked half a block for the paps, then got whisked away in a car.

  • conniemd

I really love this dress. I’m a total sucker for bright floral print cottony dresses for summer wear.

  • J. Preposterice

I’m kind of concerned, actually. Is she…botoxing her face??? Something about the above-cheekbone area looks frozen. TAYLOR YOU ARE TOO YOUNG TO BE CRUSHED BY THE INDUSTRIAL BEAUTY COMPLEX

    • PumpkintheCat

That might explain to me how she can be out in bright sunlight and not be squinting in the teeniest way. It would also seem like an ideal time to deploy sunglasses if, you know, you didn’t want people to bother you (<–obvy does not apply to TSwift).

  • Laylalola

For me, from now on I have to treat all Taylor posts as hate bait. That’s the only reason I click, I just want to irrationally lash out without even having seen what she’s wearing — so much about everything about her style is just so ridiculous — so I just am going to have to not comment at all (even though I’m sure I’ll still click).

  • demidaemon

It’s actually really cute. If she had changed the bag color, I would have been okay with it. Not that this whole scene isn’t irritating the shit out of me. It’s just that she looks pretty cute, despite whatever PR purpose this is serving.

    • livesarah

At least she isn’t leaving the gym/hanging with her BFF#671 this time.

      • demidaemon

True. I fear for BFF #672, though.

  • Man Dala

Always searching for the paparazzi that one. And she always finds them because they have been alerted by her publicist in advance.

    • demidaemon

More like “inviting the paps,” no?

      • Man Dala

        Yeah. pretty much.

  • understateddiva

God, this is just Carrie Bradshaw done terribly wrong. If you’re gonna wear something this cute, I think you gotta make it grown up somehow. I’d do a different shoe (definitely lower), and some kind of funky jewelry to throw it out of twee-land. As it is, she looks 12.

  • KES4K

Eh, I know plenty of young women in NYC or adjacent who dress like this a good majority of the time. Trust-fund babies, mostly.

  • I’d mug her for this outfit.
ETA: And if I lived in one of those buildings with flowers, I’d mace her if she picked them – it’s freaking hard to keep plants alive in the city.

    • semirose

To be fair, I have an irrational need to touch flowers when I see them like that. I don’t actually pick them but my hands would be all over those.

  • quiltrx

That dress is SO cute,, and she looks great in it.

  • BuffaloBarbara

It’s actually a pretty adorable dress. I wouldn’t want to take a long walk in the heat in New York in those shoes, though. Imagine sinking into the asphalt, or getting them stuck in a grate. You’d never get the grimy smears off. It just ruins the whole flower-picking fantasy.

It’s such a sweet, summery dress, I think I’d have gone with a pair of lightweight white sandals.

  • livesarah

Another fantastic dress. She’s on my irrational hate list but I love so much of what she is wearing lately, dammit. And I would go full throttle on the shoe colour too. I don’t belong in New York, but I don’t want to, either.

  • Mailbtch

whatever T. Lo, she’s my summer spirit animal, almost matching accessories and all

  • frannyprof

It’s like her life is one long “fabric of our lives” cotton commercial.

  • GET OUT OF MY CITY YOU POSEUR! I’m tired of seeing her “I’m in my New York phase and have nothing to do but take a meeting and parade in my pretty clothes. See? Like me?” phase! Having said that – I do think the dress is cute. Love it, actually. Too matchy with the green shoes.

  • colorjunky

I cannot sign off on suede pumps in the summer.

  • Lila

    Suede in June?

  • julnyes

Where is she going? Why is she here? Aside from these existential questions, I think she looks cute. I really like the dress, but think the whole look would be better with sandals instead of suede pumps.

  • Columbinia

I’m thinking Buckingham Palace garden party or add a hat and go to Ascot. Big, colorful print dresses always make me think of little girls and British ladies of a certain type.

  • JynxTheCat

White sandal dumbass! How obvious does it have to be?
