LOVE this look:

Absolutely adorable safari-lite chic. It looks great on her, although she’s got the belt done up a little too tightly and we don’t think the yellow of her shoes does anything for the look. It might have been perhaps a bit too expected, but a pair of brown leather wedges would’ve been perfect here.

It appears that the current footwear trend to drive T Lo mad with rage* is the vogue for wearing suede pumps in summer. Bear in mind that all the lady stars you see following this trend will be photographed wearing sandals in New York in the winter. Guaranteed.

*Because there’s at least one per season, which means either we’re prone to anger over trivial things or the fashion industry all got together behind closed doors and came up with a plan to fuck with the two of us. We’re going with the latter explanation.

It looks a bit more snug on her than it does the model, but she looks really great here.

      • http://heartprintandstyle.com/ Vivi N

Pretty much. That’s my only quibble, as well. Also, maybe doing something else with the hair. And a different pair of shoes. And add a watch or bracelet.

        Okay. A few quibbles.

      • 3boysful

I think models possess an impossible shoulders/hips to waist ratio, against which even “normal” size 2s and 4s cannot compete.

    • AnnaleighBelle

I’ve decided to take broad social trends personally, so I agree with your conspiracy theory.

I love Olivia Munn and she looks beautiful. This is sassy.

    • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

she looks like she could go right on Carson now with a small furry monkey and talk about it. adore this look. serving jane goodall realness.

    • sienna elm

It’s cute – but the top buttons are poorly placed; it’s all I can see.

      • Lower L

        Yep.

      • Introspective

agree. on the less endowed model, this wasnt even a thought. translate it to olivia’s greater cleavage and, bam: headlights you cant unsee…

shame cause it is adorable despite the bleh shoes.

        • Kristi Mitchell

Damn. Didn’t even see them until you pointed them out (no pun intended) and you’re right, now it’s ALL I see.

      • asherlev1

AUGH. I was poised to love this look, but now that you’ve said it……

    • artgirl9

Looks great in general and although I love that particular shoe style, I don’t think it looks right with this outfit. With that much leg it looks a little ice cream cone-y. Also too formal for the shorts. Prefer chunkier sandal.

    • sugarkane105

I really like the yellow shoes, simply because they take the look further away from literal safari gear. If you wear pleated shorty-short shorts on a safari, that is.

    • Danielle

Very cute. I would have guessed it was Michael Kors without any caption. He certainly loves his Safari look, doesn’t he?

    • Kent Roby

I hope the event was hosted by Linda Richmond! Olivia looks cute in her safari-inspired ensemble (and I agree that the shoes are wrong).

      • kimmeister

The chickpea is neither a chick nor a pea. Discuss.

    • Kent Roby

Her shoes look like buttah (it had to be said!).

    • Sarah

She has the same coloring as Lynda Carter, I just realized. Maybe that’s why her long-ass belt is reminding me of the Lasso of Truth. Shorten that mofo, girl.

      • demidaemon

If they were casting just on looks, she would definitely make a passable Wonder Woman.

    • ashtangajunkie

I like it on the model as is, but on Munn here I wish it were sleeveless. But it’s a cute look and I am appreciative of her pretty face.

    • RescueMe23

I just don’t understand formal pumps with a casual look – I never will. The shoes the model is wearing are perfect – even some throwback ’70s vintage cork wedges would be better than what she’s wearing.

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Given that it’s summer and there are so many choices of sandals that she could have worn, I don’t understand the pump thing either.

    • MilaXX

She’s definitely getting better. I think she always looks better with a bit of color on her lips. I’m ignoring the yellow shoe.

    • Jennifer Bober

That is adorable. This reminds me of what Banana Republic put out when they first started. I always loved those looks.

      • FibonacciSequins

Very much early Banana Republic, and I mean that in a good way.

        • Jennifer Bober

Their stuff was fantastic when they first came out. I loved the catalogs too!

        • bitchybitchybitchy

I remember really liking a lot of the early Banana Republic looks, before they lost their way.

    • Anna

Olivia looks good here, but I’m sick of the “dress-up shorts.”

    • http://urban-gypsy.com/ Tess Danesi

I like the looser belting on the model better than Olivia’s. The shoes really ruin it for me. Why not, as T-Lo said, a brown wedge. With leopard accents, because I love a touch of leopard with my safari outfits :)

    • suzq

It’s nice to see Olivia’s real knees here. But if you want real women to wear this look, the shorts could be a bit more narrow and about 4 inches longer.

    • Nancer

I think this is the best I’ve seen her look. Her make-up, hair, and outfit are all working.

      • kimmeister

Her makeup game has definitely improved in the last 2 posts.

    • Lily

I see this and feel like I’m having a bad 80s moment. Double-breasted? Check. Teeny brown leather belt? Check. “Out of Africa” inspired khaki shortset? Oh, check. I’m just not finding the appeal here.

      • teensmom99

OK but for me it is a good 80s moment.

      • Gatto Nero

I agree. Kors’ resort line (like most of his work) is bland and dated.

    • Jessica Freeman

Dislike how long the belt is with the looping situation which only reminds me of when I had the braided belt and did the same thing many years ago. I love the rest, though.

    • teensmom99

I mean this in the best possible way: it reminds me of stuff I wore in the 80s (but not shorts). As to the suede: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I get that sometimes I can only afford the suede version of a cute shoe but what’s the celeb excuse. As to color: this would have been a time when the much abused in color of orange would have worked.

      • lobsterlen

Yes! When I was a teen I had an older neighbor(she was probably about 28 at the time) who was clothes horse. She gave me that exact outfit Olivia is wearing. I loved it. Thought I was so cool and grown up wearing it. This was the late 70s.

        • teensmom99

You must have looked like Lauren Hutton.

    • boweryboy

I like the bottom half. The fit on the top half seems slapdash.

    • KateShouldBeWorking

I think the belt should be a skooch wider to balance out the boobs but crazy-cute regardless. I want it in my closet.

    • nannypoo

I like the idea of this outfit better than the execution. The placement of the top buttons is pretty funny, and the shoes are just wrong.

    • Sofia

sorry, no. the top looks too much like a repurposed blazer rather than a structured top. that belt is too skinny and her hair length is weighing her down. overall, she’s just much prettier than this.

    • Luzia

that model is absolutely stunning. what is her name? someone knows

      • Sly

        Bette Frank

    • Glam Dixie

I would think this was much cuter on her if I hadn’t seen how it looks/fits on the model. Now Olivia’s looks like it’s too snug around the boobage and the belt looks too tight and the shoes are so very wrong. Curse you models!

    • formerlyAnon

We discussed this. There is that annual summit in Dubai, right? Where designers and possibly elite stylists & buyers vote on whether granny panties or such are over and get reports from the liaison from the Interior Decor Summit on which colors are in and out. I’m sure there’s a subcommittee with a list of fashion critics, pundits and media commentators who must be annoyed.

(edited to expand upon the conceit)

      • demidaemon

Yes. Unfortunately, the “lace must die” and “granny panties should be burned” propositions continue to crash and burn every year.

    • kmk05

I mean sure, she looks banging, but this is too safari for me. It’s too much like a costume. A too-silly-for-an-actual-safari costume.

    • http://phantomminuet.blogspot.com/ MinAgain

      Needs red shoes.

    • BLauD

The top buttons just look like big ol’ areolas out there getting some sun.

      • nomnom

Now that you said it, I can’t un-see it.

        • BLauDGaspode

          Apologies

        • Annistella

          Awww man. Me too.

    • kimmeister

Yellow and brown are colors that should never be combined in an outfit. They just conjure up unpleasant associations.

    • LadyVimes

If she had a yellow and khaki (dark like the belt, or light like the garment) clutch to go with it, this would be perfect.

    • AlisonS

AHHH I totally called suede shoe micro-trend like 2 months ago!!

    • TinyDynamo

As much as I want to like this look, I can’t stand her and thus hate everything about this. Ugh.

    • Coleslaw McGraw

      I don’t like those shoes.

    • MannahattaMamma

How can you like this? She looks like she’s working at an actual safari camp in Kenya or something. Or as an “Air hostess” for Fly Botswana or something. It’s ridiculous and I don’t care how pretty she is.

    • Jecca2244

probably widely know, but worth noting that her and Lupita have the same stylist. i think that’s a newer thing for Olivia and it is showing. she looks great.

    • Kimberlini

T Lo sound so butch when they swear!

    • demidaemon

Best she’s ever looked. I also think she looks better in this than the model, which is always a plus. And it’s seasonally appropriate. Will wonders never cease!

    • marlie

Cute outfit, but I wish she’d gone with a bright green shoe. But agree about the suede in the summer. NOPE.

    • BigWhiteGrannyPanties

I hate the safari look. HATE IT. Also, when I saw the title of the post in that she was wearing Michael Kors, I said “safari look” before the page even opened. That can’t be good. And just don’t talk to me about suede pumps in summer. EEEEK

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

She’s pretty, but I dislike the safari look. And the shoes look like they must’ve been closest to the door on her way out.

    • t bell

Cute, pretty and fun; probably could put something similar together from Target or Old Navy.

    • Jacob Bowen

Love the outfit and LOVE how her simple her makeup and hair were…but there were SO many easy routes to go with the shoes here and she went for YELLOW?

    • DeTrop

MK at his best. Despite his Project Runway douchiness, he’s a great designer of sports wear and separates. Love me some MKs.

    • ktr33

I wished she’d just gone full runway with those brown platforms, which make it a little teeny bit more young and cool. With the yellow pumps, I’m seeing Ann Taylor at a business retreat.

    • giddypony

      The nipple buttons are disturbing
