I appreciate that she lined this. I’d appreciate it more if she wasn’t making such odd faces. Her posing needs some work.

    • Tracy M

She looks like she has Bell’s Palsey or something else that bilaterally effected her. I don’t think she makes that face on purpose.

      • amanda lynn

I’m wondering the same thing the more I look at these photos.

        • rhaazz

A lot of people use their mouths asymmetrically, without having Bell’s palsy. Sophia Coppola did it in Godfather 3. It’s a really bad habit and any competent, trained actor should have fixed it a long time ago.

    • Sarah

I’m not familiar with her at all. I honestly thought she was doing an Elvis impersonation.

    • whaddami

She’s been making that face since The Tudors — it’s kind of a default expression for her. Drives me bonkers — it’s really distracting….

    • Badriya Al-Badi’a

“Yeah, I don’t like this dress either” is what that face says to me.

  • Deb Oswald

I am totally distracted by the fact that she holds her mouth in a VERY odd manner. Creepy almost. And then there is the dress- omg- OUT. Oh wait, that wasn’t a choice this time. Lol

    • Fanny_Trollope

      I suspect Resting Sneer Face.

      • MilaXX

She’s a side talker so maybe RSF is a side effect of that.

  • theblondette

I love Natalie with the fire of a thousand suns, but I’m not feeling this.

    • misstressofsylar

I think the dress is too tame for her and her style. more like seeing the Black Widow in a ball gown while fighting with the Avengers. it just isn’t right.

  • Alyssa

So glad it’s lined! I wish she would relax her mouth and quit with the duck lips and other various craziness.

  • Megan Kennedy

Not such a fan of the blonde.

    • Aidan B

I heard she’s a natural blonde, actually! And she doesn’t get to wear it very much these days. But I do believe a soft brown is more flattering on her.

      • Megan Kennedy

Hmmm, interesting! I doubt it’s THAT blonde though 😉

  • hughman

    • MilaXX

    • decormaven

      Bowing down…

    • Kent Roby

Yay, hughman’s back! My day just got better. I’ve been lighting candles and praying to Oprah on your behalf.

    • Miss Ruth

You win today. Everyone else, please proceed to the exits.

  • appliquer

It is just not an attractive print.

    • kimmeister

I don’t like star prints in general, so this one is driving me to the brink of madness.

  • luludexter

duckface aside, I like this except for the belt. It’s a pretty dress with that’s a little different and the color is very nice on her

  • jonnyf8

is she related to that sneering gymnast. I think her name was Micaela or something. That dress is cool but it makes her look really short — maybe she is?

  • Frank_821

Yes it’s better lined but her hair and make up detract from the dress. it doesn’t go with it

  • @Biting Panda

    Very 4th of July.
For what it’s worth, I hate that collar/neckline. Busy Phillips was working the same look, in red, for the CFDAs. It will never not look clownish.

    • Rhonda Shore

It’s like a repurposed Hogwarts holiday tablecloth.

      • Sartorial_She

        Exactly! I thought “Dumbledore’s dress”.

  • sugarkane105

Hair up + different colored accessories + less focus-pulling shoes and this might have worked.

    • Eclectic Mayhem

Can she put her hair up right now? I’m not sure how recently the shots of her filming Mockingjay II (with shaven head) were taken but there can’t be very much hair under there.

  • MoHub

Can we please put an end to neck-to-waist bodice openings? Please?

    • Lily

At least it’s not lace? (Ha!) That’s all I got.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I join you in your plea. Also, Natalie, sweetie, making faces is not attractive on grown women.

  • Lily

She definitely needs to practice how to give face in the mirror. Other than that, I love the dress, especially the top portion. Could also see the top as a stand-alone with a pair of sleek cigarette pants and some strappy sandals.

  • SewingSiren

    What an odd smile.

  • As someone once said (of me, nearly twenty years ago…) “her eyebrows are, like, on the sides of her head.” Here, the irksome posing, personality-incongruous haircolor and awkward dress combine to disappoint. I do love her roles though, kooky calculating villainesses for the eras.

  • Lose the slit and make the (for lack of a better word) straps get narrower as they meet the collar and this would look really nice. A lot of questionable slits going around lately; hope it’s not a trend.

  • TinyDynamo

If her hair had been up, the length shorter or the slit ditched, and she’d had on a bolder lip, this could’ve been amazing. But as it is, not to mention the weird possible-stroke posing, this is ghastly.

  • In_Stitches

All the visual interest in the print is down by her knees. The collar is just plain ugly. I’m afraid this is a miss.

  • Nancer

    Thank God she lined it.

  • Danielle

  • MilaXX

Love the look, but what’s wrong with her mouth?

  • NMMagpie

The mouth acrobatics aside, that collar is just killing this for me. The garment would be better off without it.

  • Cyprienne Zed

The Billy Idol sneer-face totally distracted me from the dress… on returning to the photos, I dislike the ruffle, but heart the rest of it.

  • crash1212

She’s a beautiful woman who can rock a sneer like nobody’s business, but that’s just a sad clown dress.

  • Julie Chase

I like the pattern, weirdly enough, but she needs to learn how to smile. She reminds me of Liz Lemon when she’s filming the promo for her talk show and is Captain Awkwardpants in front of the camera. (CAM-er-A)

“Smile! With your mouth! Raise the roof! Oh god. Wave to a friend. Wave like a human being! Remember waving?!”

  • ThaliaMenninger

    Hello 1974.

  • Beardslee

Glad it’s lined but I think you need to be a long drink of water to pull this off effectively.

  • Sunraya

I loved this when I first saw it, and I love it now. I wish she were still a brunette, ala Ann Boleyn.

  • I know she’s a natural blonde, but I seriously think she looks better with dark hair.

  • Jennifer Bober

I like the dress, especially since she lined it. It’s bold and eye-catching and the shape works for her. She let the print speak for itself and didn’t SJP it up. For this event though, I think the hair is really casual. What she’s doing with her mouth is just weird though.

  • Justine

Baby you’re a firework that just ate a lemon? I kid, love the dress.

  • colleenjanel

The know the lip affectations are her *thing,* but it gets silly after a while. The closeup is my favorite because it’s the least “lippy.”

  • ashtangajunkie

I like the pattern and the belt and the idea of this dress. I do not like the neckline of the dress – takes it a bit into Bozo’s formal wear to me. Also, I’ll take this all the way into Negative Nancy territory and say that I don’t like the way her hair is styled for the dress.

  • AlisonS

She thinks she’s giving bitch face. That’s sweet. She’s actually giving duck lips.
All of it is weird, except maybe the shape. But I still don’t like any of it.

  • TwiddlyStun

I’m not sure she means to smirk. Like some women have unfortunate RBF (resting bitch face) she seems to have RSF (resting smirk face). It looks like she has to work at it to not be smirking.

  • RescueMe23

What the heck are those faces she’s making?? I never even saw the dress…

  • LadyVimes

Not even a bitchface can make this one work. Girl, that’s not your dress.

  • BLauD

I’m just delighted to see it’s lined.

  • latina fey

i love her, but i DETEST the way she purses her lips all the time. like, irrational anger inducing.

  • SuzyQuzey

She should go back to brunette. Blonde does not suit her.

  • Imasewsure

I think I like this kicky little gown. Kind of a “regular” long dress rather than a fancy gown but I think that is why I like it

  • frannyprof

    I love this!

  • jilly_d

I lllllllove her so much, but this is all a big No. I find her sneer-y mouth sexy, but this is a bit much, plus the hair color is terrible and sweetie? That dress is utter shit.

  • Aidan B

That neckline makes me suspect that her Margaery costumes left a mark on her. Not really flattering, though.

  • decormaven

Bless. Needs some coaching on how to present a pleasant visage on the RC.

  • Miss wks

    Her makeup is downright amateur…..

  • PseudoPsychoProf

It’s almost an “Elvis” sneer, or it looks like she’s about to pass gas. Don’t like the dress. too Busy for me.

  • fiddlecub

Someone attached an invisible fishhook to the right side of her upper lip and is now reeling her in.

  • smayper

Perfect for the Miss Firecracker competition. (It’s a real play, by Beth Henley).

  • Yoshio

Merlin’s cape was not meant to be fashioned into a shapeless gown to be worn by someone with no magical powers.

  • FibonacciSequins

Makes me think of Harry Potter.

  • I love her. I like the print. I like that the dress is lined. And yet this just doesn’t work.

  • Daisy Walker

I like the dress, but gurl is LIT UP. Lotsa pregaming in that face.

  • Mr. J.

She looks like a video game, and her hair is a mess….Not sure what she has to sneer about.

  • KT

Really pretty dress, but she’s not making it work. Maybe it’s because her hair/makeup look seriously underdone, or maybe it’s just a GTNYD.

  • quiltrx

I might like this if not for the neck foofaraw (which seems to only look good on those who can do vintage looks—someone like Florence Welch?).
And the issue of “what is going on with her mouth” is a very common search on Google, I just found. No one knows is the answer. if it’s something she can’t help (like Nancy Zieman, who had nerve damage as a child), I don’t want to make fun of her. But if this is something she DOES on purpose, she needs to quit that shit right now.

    • My lip does the exact same thing, since I was about 13; no idea why. But I like her more because of it.

  • newidentity

my queen! She can do no wrong, don’t even try to pretend like she can.

  • Add full sleeves w / ruffled cuff and close up the center front…and it’s a dead ringer for a dress I saw the 80 year old Estee Lauder in around 1985… Dumpy!

  • John11581

Did her stylist suggest the odd facial expressions to distract people from paying too much attention to that dress?

  • demidaemon

It’s fine, I guess? I don’t know. her expressions are so distracting I can barely look at the dress. Dictionary example of “not working it AT ALL.”

  • nannypoo

Not very flattering. I’m glad I can’t see her underpants.

  • Amel

it’s kind of an odd choice imo. I feel like the character she often plays is sort of sexy/smart/calculating, but this doesn’t fit that. I assume the character she wants to play is “lead female starlet” and this doesn’t seem to fit that either. I don’t hate it but it’s not what she should be wearing, I think

  • somebody blonde

I love her, but that’s really not her hair color. The stars on the dress look like weed.

    • Ma. Gabriella Dutari

I also thought the green stars were mj leaves ahahaha, and that is precisely why I like it!! She looks beautiful, even though she would look even better if she abandoned both the duck face and that shade of blond.

  • Dany

I can’t stand her portrayal of Maergery Tyrell so this is out for me on principle.

  • I didn’t know she was in Game of Thrones. I thought she played the best Anne Boleyn I’ve seen (and IMO, looks better as a brunette).

    • malarson2

      She was fierce as AB.

  • Qitkat

I like the fabric and color palette a lot, it reminds me (loosely) of Matisse’s cut paper designs. But between the sneers and the duck lips, and the too-casual hair, I wish she had put more effort in her styling.

  • marlie

The dress is ok, I guess. Her makeup is terrible, her hair looks like she didn’t bother doing it, and her facial expressions are making me cringe. She’s on my irrational hate list for some reason, though, so maybe I’m biased.

  • rebeemoon

She’s attempting a version of Blue Steel here, but it does not translate well.

  • macwell

Her makeup is totally on point, but that dress is….not.

  • Natalie, whoever on your team told you to make that face – that scrunched up pout, I assume it was a twinky gay man who also makes that face in photos – slap him, and slap him whenever he makes that face. I don’t know who told people that looks good, but whenever I see that face in pictures it just says to me, “I’m trying really hard to look smugly hot.” Just… ugh.
Pretty fabric. It’s a pity Matthew Williamson couldn’t think of something pretty to do with it.

  • I like it.

  • Haley Buchanan

Her facial expression is weird and the dress is unflattering. This is just about the worst I’ve ever seen anyone from Game of Thrones look. This isn’t a dig at poor Natalie so much as proof that everyone from Game of Thrones is some sort of super-human.

  • MyFavoriteColorIsGlitter

  • BrianaJC

LOVE the fabric. I don’t like the chest slit, but it would be heavy without it. Maybe its just the heavy collar I don’t like?

  • Smirking and sneering. I don’t think she likes it. I know I don’t.

  • KayEmWhy

Glad she lined it I’m tired of the lingerie/bewitched look on the red carpet.

  • formerlyAnon

I LOVE that print. And I rarely like a print. Hair is awful. Would have preferred something like a clean band instead of the ruffle.

  • boweryboy

It’s a for models only dress, but at least she lined the skirt.

  • Heather

Is it bad that I always think of her flying, severed head in ‘The Tudors’? That’s the only way I can remember who she is.

  • Granny! How are you enjoying the cruise?

  • anotherkate

She does such odd things with her upper lip. It always comes across like she’s trying really hard to look “sassy!” or like she’s straight-up sneering at me. It may partially just be how her face works, but when she’s on screen she seems able to express a range of emotions, so it can’t be the ONLY thing her mouth can do.
The dress is cute, in a whimsical sort of way. I like her better with darker hair.

  • She’s a cute girl and that’s an interesting dress, I think. I was distracted by the weird sideways smirk on her face.

  • Akemi

I wish she’d go back to dark hair.
