Li Bingbing in Stéphane Rolland at the “Transformers: Age of Extinction” World Premiere

Posted on June 19, 2014

On this day of boring white dresses and simple black dresses, it seems somehow fitting that we close it out with a B&W dress that is neither simple nor boring.

There’s no way in hell we could ever really praise a skirt that has a vulva-to-floor sheer panel and some deformed craft branches glued to it, but godDAMN does this gal know how to work the shit out of it. Way to make a cracktastic dress look downright chic, girl.

From the back, solid fabric, BAM, movie star. From the sheer front…she “Blake Lively” it. It’s a new term to describe an otherwise good thing and ruins it.

    • alyce1213

      It’s like a cocoon mid-metamorphosis‎. I think it’s over-designed and tragically ugly.
Her pretty face is not enough to undo it.

    • kimmeister

Dang, is everyone named Bingbing as cute as a button?

The dress is hideous though. Driftwood exoskeletons are rarely a good idea. Not to mention the platform ankle strap silly putty pumps.

    • ryenerman

I realize that in a post about a ridiculous vulva mullet skirt it’s foolish to be distracted by hosiery, but something is seriously off with those nylons. I found them almost as distracting as the skirt.

      • alyce1213

Not nylons, it’s the sheer part of the skirt. And there’s definitely something seriously wrong.

        • kimmeister

The skirt is way too tight. You can see the sheer part nearly busting at the seams.

        • evave2

And don’t the sheer panels look like nylons with runs in them, a weird set of lines?

I don’t think she was able to make the dress look chic, I think T/L are wrong there.

That skirt is unwearable by any human being.

There is a Fan Bingbing and here is a Li Bingbing, right? Fan Bingbing was in Iron Man 3 for some weird Chinese coda (mostly deleted scenes) where Tony goes to China for surgery to get out all the shrapnel in his chest or something (I think China only allows about 46 (?) films a year and it helps to open a film in China if they have a Chinese actor/actress of some repute in it.

I was thinking ot seeing Transformers 4 anyway.

          • evave2

Oh I looked her up on IMDB and found out I saw a movie she was in The Forbidden Kingdom a while back. I don’t remember her and she appeared pretty far down in the credits (I thought she was some girl with white hair who fought for the bad guys but that was somebody else).

      • Lori

T first glance I thought the same thing and then I realized those aren’t nylons, that’s the skirt. The vulva mullet is held together with what looks like cheap black nylons.

        • ryenerman

Oh. My. God. I am at a total loss with this revelation

          • Lori

I know, right? “What were they thinking?!!!” just doesn’t seem to cover it. I never thought I’d long for illusion net and yet, here we are.

            • Raspberry2012

I realized that on the second look. Couldn’t believe it!

      • bitchybitchybitchy

Vulva mullet-I weep. With a solid black skirt embellished with the driftwood, this would be odd, but passable. I give Ms. BingBing credit for working this as well as she did. Gorgeous face!

    • @Biting Panda

So Bingbing translates into “fashion magician”?

    • Thomas

I do not get Stephane Rolland’s “creations” for the most part. This is no exception.

      • TAGinMO

Her name is French for “Stella McCartney.”

        • Thomas

I woukd agree, but I’m almost positive it’s a guy.

    • J.W.

It looks like a roll of toilet paper after the kitten got it…

      • Boulderista

It looks like a roll of toilet paper after it’s gotten wet and then balled into wads that have been allowed to dry and THEN the kitten got it …

        • J.W.

          I’ll buy that!

        • Dorothy & Michael n/a

        • sundaynightaddict

I’m dying over here! It reminds me of middle school, when kids would take wet toilet paper and throw it up on the bathroom ceiling, leaving it to dry into these disgusting TP ceiling worms.

        • Raspberry2012

      • AnneElliot

But was it a Bitter Kitten?

        • J.W.

          What else?

    • Sarah

That dress is mad ugly. It’s like a silly string plus “don’t let your thighs play with dangerous plastic bags”

    • lunchcoma

From the main page, I thought it was going to be a cute little black and white knee length sheath dress, worn by someone with presence who bothered to get her hair and makeup done.

I kind of regret clicking and seeing the rest.

    • BlairBear

This dress is boring to me. I’ve been so desensitized to coral polyps on dresses and sheer panels. Yawn

    • crash1212

Waist up is perfection. Waist down….eeeesh. But, she is working it.

    • MinAgain

Fifth picture down is what this gown should have looked like. That sheer panel is just inexplicable.

    • Danielle

Her face is absolutely flawless. Love the lipcolor on her.

      • jorinde

        apparently she’s 41 years old.

        • FrigidDiva

          Wow..I just have no words…wow.

        • Alicia

Seriously? That must be some painting in her attic.

        • Raspberry2012

WHAT? I’m 50, and I would have guessed anything that she was young enough to be my kid!

    • lundibleu

She looks fantastic, though I’m not convinced by the dress. I would like to know some of her secrets though – she looks a lot younger than she is.

      • kimmeister

Wow, she’s 41! There is a joke about how we Asian women don’t age at all until we hit our 50’s, and then suddenly we age decades all at once.

        • lundibleu

I had same reaction when I saw the age written down, I put her as younger than I am looking at the pics here, but was way out.

I have a Japanese friend / ex-colleague who similarly looks younger than her age, although not as drastically different as Ms BingBing here.

        • SugarSnap108

She’s 41?? If you’d said she was 20, I wouldn’t have questioned it. I do question her skirt-related choices, however.

    • Frank_821

My goodness this is a day of ridiculous. First those men’s collection. Now this.

well it says soemthing about how faboo Fan Bingbing is, that she can wear this mutation without embarrassing herself

      • quiltrx

This is Li Bingbing, a different actress.
If you Google ‘a tale of two Bingbings’ there is an interesting article about them both. I learned they’re not related and Fan is younger, but they started their careers the same year.

        • Frank_821

whoops. My bad. I was not paying attention. But they look similar in this instance. oh well as a Chinese person I should be allowed this one goof…lol
          still pretty faboo

        • Alicia

BingBing is their given name, isn’t it? Fan and Li are the family names. Maybe BingBing is to Chinese actresses what Jennifer is to American!

          • quiltrx

Exactly, Alicia. Maybe we BKs could push BingBing into a popular American girl’s name!

            • Alicia

It could easily be a WASPy name, like Bunny!

    • FibonacciSequins

Wadded-up toilet paper stuck to craft wire and glued on. Few could pull it off as well as she does.

    • schadenfreudelicious

From the side its quite fetching, from the front, frightening…

    • OffToSeeHim

It’s a little try-hard, isn’t it? It’s a shame, because it would be a really good look if you closed off that sheer panel.

    • Carleenml

I’m starting to really wonder about the current state of fashion. I don’t think this will be a “look back and sigh at the beauty” kind of era somewhere down the road.

      • Kiltdntiltd

Soooooo right. This is one of those phases we’re going to choose to pretend didn’t happen.

      • FrigidDiva

You said it. Too bad we’re not at the point where we can already look back on it. I really wish we’d move on…then again, what if it’s worse?

    • fursa_saida

Nope, this is batshit and not even in a fun way.

I’m relieved to realize this is Li Bingbing, because I saw “Bingbing,” assumed it was the Fan variety, and was trying to figure out how on earth she looked like someone completely different.

    • Katie

the profile picture is maddening because you can see how beautiful the dress could have been, particularly on her, without that ridiculous sheer panel. It seems when something becomes a trend designers just run with it without any regard for whether it works with that particular garment.

    • joything

So is Li related to Fan? Bingbingbingbingbing!

      • marlie

I thought so for a second, but then I googled… Li and Fan are their last names; BingBing is their first.

    • gsk241

She’s doing her best, but this is still a big “NO!”

    • GeoDiva

Agree that she is working the hell out of it….Is she related to Fan?

      • TFS8

I don’t think they are related. Chinese names put the family name first, so Li is her family name and Bingbing is her given name. Maybe having the name Bingbing makes them both awesome at working whatever they’re wearing :)

    • LadyVimes

She’s making that horrible sheer panel work. Serious poise snaps.

    • Constant Reader

I really dislike white/off white combinations because the off white always looks dirty. And the skirt is batshit, as previously noted. But damn if she isn’t doing some PhD-level dress-wearing all the same.

    • Alloy Jane

If this did not have a sheer panel, I would be ok with this. It’s nicer from the side even if the white branches are a bit crafty.

    • YoungSally

Just because one can 3-d print it doesn’t mean one should.

    • LesYeuxHiboux

It’s to her credit that she can make this look interesting instead of downright insane. Snaps of respect.

    • Lisalady161

Who thought a screen door in a skirt was a good idea?

      • DagnyReardon

It’s this type of observation that makes me come here. I am laughing out loud. Thank you, Lisalady 161.

        • Lisalady161

          You are very welcome, Dagny!

    • IAmJ

I’ll refrain from commenting on the outfit itself because I’m just so happy we have multiple Bingbings to rely on for fierceness.

      • Shelby

        Truth. So much truth.

    • Yoshio

At least this one made me smile rather than cringe.

    • PinkyK

Obviously designed by an OBGYN for easy access….

    • Darcy H

I am HERE for that side shot. Girl is KILLING it and making that dress work.

And then that sheer panel happened. Let’s just pretend it didn’t happen, like that last Indiana Jones movie. Can’t we just remember the good parts and ignore the one tragic mistake?

      • kimmeister

What Indiana Jones movie, The Last Crusade? 😉

    • Imasewsure

I could embrace the crazy branch crap with a solid skirt. Weird but couture weird so it deserves a bit more slack (in theory only here though)

    • t bell

I was scared that my computer had been infected until I scrolled down and realized that the glued on craft branches were supposed to be there.

    • Jacqueline Wessel

Well, she looks good from the side.

    • conniemd

That dress is just plain weird.

    • JP

      Hi, I’m a coral reef!

      Uh, no.

    • Glam Dixie

Elephant skin legs is not a good look on anyone.

    • marlie

From the side, this almost works. And then you see the sheer crotch window and it all goes to hell. Not even (a) Binbing can save this dress (though she comes close).

Also, those shoes are a crying shame.

    • quiltrx

If not for the sheer panel, it’s pretty in a batshit sort of way. The panel makes it a giant nightmare.

    • myra

I don’t think anything else could’ve made my day more than finding out that another fashionable Bingbing exists

    • Joey Melliza

Fabulous number – it’s quite apt for the movie — i was relieved to see that there were no white going-ons in the ass area – otherwise i would be concerned about her watching the movie standing up. Dear uncles – is this what you might call a frankendress?

    • MilaXX

So now we get inner thigh window dresses? Oh hell no! Stop it fashion world, just cut it out!

    • Fuchsiaforever

At least it’s not boring!!! 😀

    • FridaStaire

Remember when bills had those sheer windows at the front and real letters didn’t? As a child, my mother and I would stomp on the ‘window’ envelopes together.
That is what this dress makes me think of – billing for fashion crime. But yes, she is very cute regardless.

    • Kiltdntiltd

I’m fine till we get below the crotchal zone. the n it all goes to hell fast, Who thought that sheer panel was a tasteful notion? Should that person be hunted down?

    • WaterGhost

Wikipedia says she’s forty. She doesn’t look like she’s forty. I feel tired all of a sudden. Maybe it’ll help if I go have a nap. I might even possibly look like her when I wake up. Jesus.
Topic: That skirt is a tragic manifestation of unrequited hopes. Sheer panels will do that to you.

    • Luzia

a lot of chinese girls kill it (and overkill it) on fashion front. it’d be cool to see them featured here once in a while

    • altermyego

Yeah, but what did she look like when she tripped and fell on that hem? Where are those pictures?

    • RescueMe23

      Bring on the BingBings!!

    • MoHub

Maybe not simple or boring, but not very attractive either.

    • TaurusKW

I literally just exclaimed, out loud to my computer, “Holy fuck monkeys!!!!!”

    • Joanna

That dress is hideous. Ms. BingBing, however, is glorious.

    • Jennifer Bober

That sheer panel is seriously twitch inducing. It’s bad enough when it falls straight, but when it wrinkles it makes it look like she’s shedding her skin like a snake.

    • KinoEye

The dress is what it is. I’m echoing other kittens here, but HOW IS THIS LADY 41?! She’s almost twice my age and looks younger than I do! To quote Liz Lemon: “How is that possible? Is she a wizard??”

    • Raspberry2012

You know, it’s deceptively pretty from the side. But then when she turns to face the camera, it all goes to hell.

    • Mothra

I don’t like that sheer front at all. Why not just make a little cutaway train deal and have it just be al fresco?

    • Tracy_Flick

YIKES. It’s a peepshow window in dress form. What was that 80s video with the peep show at the “Adults Only” bookstore-type place? Does anyone else remember that?

    • stubbornthoughts

But brava for posing the crap out of it.

    • Kelly

True, it’s neither simple nor boring. It is, however, hilariously absurd. In the very next scene, she’s going to be strangled by the mutant white guts that have inexplicably begun growing from her clothes, and we’ll be off and running through Film #1 in the “Killer Entrails” franchise.

    • kategs

      It is however, hideous.

    • stef lee

THIS WOMAN IS 41 YEARS OLD. 41!!! *faints*
