  • @Biting Panda

This my shit. Bow down bitches.

    • Rhonda Shore

She knows how to be a movie star…these sleeves look weird though.

      • demidaemon

Yeah, I thought the same thing. I understand why she probably wanted them, but I don’t particularly like this version. I wonder if they would have been better if they were opaque instead of sheer.

  • Coleen

All the great stuff she’s worn in the last few months, and now THIS? Tsk, tsk, Barbarella.

  • DuBey2

I think she looks fab. Nails, hair, bag, dress: spot on. That gown emphasizes her still-fantastic figure.

    • DebbieLovesShoes

I can only HOPE to look that good at her age. Isn’t she pushing 70?

      • suburbanbohemian

        Wikipedia says she 76. Amazing!

        • DebbieLovesShoes

    • BayTampaBay

Agree 100%! I have always like her regardless of her politics when she was younger.

Also, what little work, if any, she has had on her face looks great. I need the name of that Doctor.

  • mjude

    bowing down

  • James

    Fabulous! She looks fabulous.

  • JauntyJohn

Personally, I love it. I love that it is simple and dramatic and comfortable, all at the same time.
But beyond that, holy mary mother of god, to be 76 years old and stand and have your picture taken in front of nearly life sized pictures of yourself from FIFTY YEARS AGO… and to look graceful and poised and comfortable and beautiful…!
Kittens, in my book that is a real pro. An authentic star.
    Broad has still got it.

    • @Biting Panda

Also, let it be praised that she isn’t giving into the silly gloves thing. You can’t tell me that those who wear them – most only in their 50s – need them any more than a woman in her 70s. Who, to be clear, absolutely does not.

      • FibonacciSequins

Those who wear them are still trying to give the illusion of youth. Jane, while admittedly genetically gifted, appears to be reasonably comfortable showing her age.

      • Vegas Girl

So, are the gloves to hide the aging of their hands, then? I have never been able to figure out that trend, but this theory makes sense to me, in a “these vein ladies think everyone is as stupid as them” kind of way.

      • schadenfreudelicious

Was thinking exactly the same thing about those silly fingerless gloves, if Jane can forgo them so can…ahem, Madge….

      • FuhUgh

I see some of the my favorites here (Panda, Fibonacci, Schandenfreudelicious) and we are all on the same page …. no stupid gloves! I love you, bitter kittens. As for Jane, she was one of the most stunning beautiful women on earth when she was young, and she’s still got it going on.

      • Mollie F

Just want to point out that fingerless gloves are a bit of a trend, especially for knitters (or loved ones of knitters) who work in chilly places.

However, that hardly explains the wearing of them on the red carpet. And it does not excuse the wearing of weightlifting gloves for formal occasions (or any occasions other than weightlifting, for that matter).

      • Wendi126

Bitter kittens all…put sunscreen on your hands every day! I have for 30+ years and the skin on my hands is age-spot free and pretty smooth. Arthritis has gnarled the shit out of my fingers but they’re smoooooth

        • AnnaleighBelle

I agree. Treat your hands the same way you treat your face. Moisturize, sunblock, gentle exfoliation.

          • JimiG

And driving gloves, always. Only while driving, of course!

    • boweryboy

      She’s freakin’ fabulous.

    • Denise Alden

You’re exactly right. And slightly off topic, I caught the last half of “Coming Home” a few weeks ago and man, has that movie held up! Amazing!

    • Introspective

Hell yeah fucking right!! That is all.

    • Judih1

Good point. I don’t want to stand in front of a photo of myself from – 20 years ago. So I have empathy for Jane.

    • Betsy

  • Jangle57

I think the sleeves are a little unfortunate but damn, I wish my body looked that good and I’m 20 years younger….

    • boweryboy

I’m sure she’s wearing enough foundation under that dress to support a small home.

      • StellaZafella

“Enough horse hair, elastic and chicken wire to build a 3 piece room group at Levitz!” (Thank you, Charles Pierce)

      • Judih1

      • traceyishere

    • lunchcoma

If that dress had solid sleeves, this would be damn near perfect.

  • FibonacciSequins

Look at how fabulous she looks next to those decades-old (also fabulous) photos of herself.

    • Carleenml

I was curious enough to check IMDB to see what her film history was…from 1990-2005: NOTHING. Ah yes, women in Hollywood.

      • FibonacciSequins

I think that’s when she was involved with/married to Ted Turner. As I recall, she announced she was retiring from films and lived with Ted in Atlanta, then went back to making movies after she divorced him.

        • Carleenml

That’s cool. I’m cynical, I know…but “no scripts in the mail” could also equal “I’m intentionally doing this.” I could be wrong/natch. At 48 I am hypersensitive to the 50-year-old actress story.

        • e jerry powell

What’s striking me here is that Turner Networks, judging from the red carpet banner, is a name sponsor of the event.

          • FibonacciSequins

Apparently she and Ted Turner are still very friendly.

          • e jerry powell

If memory serves, he was annoyed when she went all Christian on him.

  • Nicole Sauvage

Great callback to a classic-Hollywood kind of silhouette but it seems a bit stark. Why not the same cut in coral or bright blue? But on the topic of “what to show and what to cover to look great on the RC at 76,” she is putting on a clinic.

  • Counterpoint

I like the idea of it. Unfortunately the wrinkly skirt cheapens the look.

  • boweryboy

I really like this on her, but then again I’ve had a crush on her since I saw Barefoot in the Park as a 10 year old so I’m biased. However, I really, really, really want her to do something different with her hair.

    • FuhUgh

I love Barefoot in the Park

      • boweryboy

        Shama shama.

      • quiltrx

        My favorite of hers…adorable movie.

  • random_poster

Fabulous and classy are defined! I’ll take that necklace, please.

  • In_Stitches

I’m not in love with the stark, horizontal line where the black meets the white. I don’t think it hits her at the perfect place and it’s a bit of an abrupt transition. However, the bodice fits like a dream, the neckline is perfection on her and her accessory game is top notch.

  • another_laura

Black is not her friend. I get the references, but this is a missed opportunity.

  • KateMaryC

I love everything but the sleeves. I get why she wants them, and would be happy with another sheer sleeve, but this fabric looks a little fungal.

  • shirab

Interesting that Turner Classic Movies is one of the sponsors.

    • Vegas Girl

I saw her on Conan last night and it appears her & Ted have a very good relationship still. She did say he’s her favorite ex and she did some kind of interview honoring him as well.

      • @Biting Panda

She spoke well of him in her Life Class series of Oprah’s. She just didn’t wan to be married anymore. It was time to stand on her own.

        • Vegas Girl

It’s nice to see adults actually acting like adults. I really like her, and CAN’T WAIT to see her in “This is Where I Leave You”. I read the book and I think her casting was brilliant!

          • bitchybitchybitchy

There’s definitely something to be said for discretion, as well as for kindness.

        • formerlyAnon

And if that doesn’t sound like a “speak no evil in public” edited version, nothing will! Which, to be clear doesn’t mean AT ALL that she doesn’t think well of him or that any of it is untrue.

Just that anyone who’s been married and divorced and probably anyone who’s been married for more than 5 minutes knows the difference between “perfectly true and all anyone else needs to know” and “[my version of ] the complete unvarnished picture.”

          • @Biting Panda

            She’s a class act.

          • formerlyAnon

What I like is that she hasn’t always been as evolved (for lack of a better word) as she might have liked to be, but she seems never to have quit trying to grow and to improve herself.

  • KateShouldBeWorking

Two classy-sexy ladies working together: Fonda and Wang are an excellent match.

  • http://www.readbarbara.com/ ReadBarbara

That hairstyle kinda of makes her look like Paula Dean’s skinnier, hotter sister. And, that dress is fab on her.

  • MilaXX

She’s 76, looks pretty darn good and is dressed appropriately for the event. Any quibbles I could begin to list would be the most minor of minor.

  • Danielle

  • Cynica

What strikes me here is not the dress or the jewelry (though both look good on her) but the POSTURE. Chin up, tits out, indeed. Take note, starlets. Your posture can let you own the red carpet even in a so-so dress.

  • Mary Elizabeth Poytinger Baume

    • ktr33

and… as my mom would say … mine is unlisted…

      • formerlyAnon

  • marlie

Jane looks beautiful. Classy, elegant and almost regal. Gorgeous.

  • AC Simons

She looks terrific, but I wish she’d gone for a darker lipstick. This makes her face look washed out. She is spectacular.

  • B_C_J

  • prettyinmink

If the sleeves were solid black this would be a WERQ for me. Her makeup and jewelry are perfect! And it’s amazing how great posture can elevate a look.

  • Jacqueline Wessel

    Damn, Jane, you look fabulous!

  • ashtangajunkie

  • Carleenml

It’s to the point where if she didn’t do that hand-on-hip pose I would weep. WERQ it, Ms. Jane!

  • crash1212

Dayum! I love her and I love her work. And I love her in this dress….AND….work those diamonds girl!

  • smh4748

This is great–classy, age-appropriate, and flattering. I’m not 100% on board with the sleeves, but that’s about it. It’s amazing how much better she is at this whole thing than dozens and dozens of other decades-younger women in Hollywood.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Something tells me that years of life experience have given Ms. Fonda some lessons about dress, comportment, etc.

  • Amel

I think it would be so intimidating to stand in front of pictures of yourself 45 years younger, having your photo taken. But holy crap, does this woman make it WORK! She’s gorgeous. Major props.

  • MzzPants

    Love her hair here.

  • jbj

She always poses with her hand on her ass.

    • colleenjanel

If I had that ass at 76, I would too!

  • kduffin7

    She is a lifetime achievement.

  • cat772

I don’t love the hairdo, but she ROCKS that dress! You go on with your bad self, Jane! Wowza!

  • Mothra

I don’t love the BRIGHT WHITE of the skirt. It looks like someone swapped her top and bottom from different outfits. But she looks very fine regardless. I just might have opted for something less stark.

  • deech_sea

The stark white skirt seems to work surprisingly well. She looks stunning.

  • MK03

Okay, who did she sell her soul to? Because I’d like to make them an offer for myself…

  • ktr33

superb for her. Weird squatty pose in first pic, but no matter. This is a Jane, WERQ.

  • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

Jesus. She is amazing. I genuflect in respect. Oh, and when you’re through with that gown, I’ll take it off your hands. Thanks, luv.

  • Imasewsure

Great and well deserved achievement but the dress is not the best. Plain top, plain skirt and no real transition in the middle. Also not loving the Dolly hair but still, she’s loving it and that is all that matters

  • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I’m crushing hard on her after her sex tips to Conan the other day, and I think she looks amazing. Still within her wheelhouse, but not totally predictable.

    • MaggieMae

No. way. Do you have a link?

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

Did you ever see the clip with her turning Stephen Colbert to jelly? She has powers that are super human.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I’ll have a look for it!

  • Missy

I want some of the blood of whatever innocents she’s been drinking.

  • formerlyAnon

Grading on a curve for age: A+

  • amanda lynn

    and I’m bowing.

  • Terri Terri

her hand’s been glued to the side of her ass for about a month now… wtf….

  • JynxTheCat

Im kinda bummed this is only Whiteboard. She looks great.

  • Miss Ruth

BOW DOWN, MORTALS (TM uncles). I want her and Carmen dell’Orefice to get together and fight crime.

  • KT

Remove those sleeves and this is a WERQ. And she doesn’t get to use the excuse of wearing sleeves to cover up “old lady” arms, because I can SEE how defined and fabulous they are through the sheer! You are still the same workout video goddess you always were, you national treasure you!

  • Gatto Nero

Show ’em how it’s done, Ms. Fonda. Fabulous.

  • dalgirl

    She boggles. Incredible!

  • Mr. J.

I’ve said it before, I say it again: she’s a movie star. Vintage. They don’t make ’em like this anymore.

  • Tiffany Birch

  • MaggieMae

Great lift for what appears to be a strapless! I bow down with respect.

  • Gorengirl

Regal. This is how Hollywood is done.

  • Captain_Awkward

Cut off the sleeves, but wear cool bracelets and I would die from the beautiful.

  • Qitkat

Love everything but wish she hadn’t given in to the totally lined eye trend, I’m really beginning to hate seeing that everywhere.

  • Betsy

What elixir is she ingesting and how can I get some??!!

  • Boobs Radley

I believe the phrase you’re looking for is “Bow the fuck down, bitchez!”

  • MyFavoriteColorIsGlitter

    We are not worthy!!!!

Uh oh… Just noticed the fit on the skirt is not totally perfect. Oh well. Still rules!

  • LambeeBaby

  • quiltrx

    Those diamonds…DAMN.
Just the icing on Miss Lady’s Cake of Fabulous.

  • MandyM

This would have been so much better without the sleeves but she is still rocking the hell out of that dress. Amazing!

  • ThaliaMenninger

She sure knows how to werq it.

  • JP

    Flawless. Completely flawless.

  • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

Does Jane feel any anxiety about having to pose in front of a life-size photo of her 20-something fabulous self? Not for a second. Shut it down, oh fabulous one! We are FEELING THE BURN!

  • Dan_In_NYC

I’m not a big fan of sheer sleeves on a woman of a certain age, but otherwise Ms Thing is serving it.

  • Denise Rambo

The skirt is pulling a little strangely around her hips and the sleeves are kind of funky but the necklace is TO DIE FOR!
