James McAvoy for Prada Menswear Fall 2014 Ad Campaign

Posted on June 23, 2014

It’s a sunny day in June (where we are, at least), which means you probably need gorgeously overcast pictures of a moody Scotsman with huge feet and great taste in outerwear in your life right now.

Whatever. We needed an opening.

James-McAvoy-Prada-Fall-2014-Mesnwear-Campaign-Tom-Lorenzo-Site-TLO-1James McAvoy for Prada mesnwear Fall 2014 ad campaign photographed by Annie Leibovitz.

That’s one eminently do-able moody Scotsman.  We fear he’s going to trip in those giant shoes, though.

If I could pull off a turtleneck I would be all over that one. Love the sunglasses. He’s not so bad as well.

      • Kitten Mittons

That’s my favorite picture as well.

        • boweryboy

Until I got to that photo, I was all: Just ok. Just ok. Oh! Cool turtleneck! Awesome sunglasses! *huge pause* Well, hullo there sexy man. Where did you come from?

          • Kitten Mittons

Indeed. He does not usually do things for me, but I like that look on him. Looooove that turtleneck.

I will have to reassess my opinion of him that is based entirely on pictures from this site.

            • whaddami

Ha — I love all the pics *but* the ones with the sunglasses. It’s too “Mcavoy: The Bono Years” for me…..Maybe they’ll remake the video for “One” with him in it. Hmmmmmmmm…….

            • Kitten Mittons

Funny, I didn’t see the Bono vibe, but now there it is….

            • http://www.twitter.com/scoopie77 Amanda Black

Fancy menswear does make a man more handsome.

            • Kitten Mittons

              Almost always, yes ma’am!

            • http://www.twitter.com/scoopie77 Amanda Black

:) In this case for sure yes! Although he does look a bit sad…but still handsome.

            • Kitten Mittons

              He’s just brooding. For fashion.

      • Gatto Nero

I’d like to pull off that turtleneck.

        • jilly_d

I see what you did there.

      • very nope

I want to like it, but it’s a bit too reminiscent of Teenagers from Outer Space for me.

      • Miranda Reseigh

Pull off that turtleneck and I’d be all over him.

    • Noah

Am I alone, or does he look dreadfully (and unintentionally) uncomfortable?

      • lundibleu

Not alone. I thought he looked exhausted in the first two pics.

        • Vtg Fashion Library

I’d like to help him feel better.

      • Jessica Freeman

and a touch scary as well.

      • gorghast

I think he looks awful in this photoshoot.

      • kimmeister

He looks chilly, which is not necessarily a great marketing tactic for selling outerwear.

      • formerlyAnon

That made these photos for me. Situated him in a part of my past when my contemporaries were younger and more scenic, and we were outdoors a lot because almost no one had enough of their own space for us to go to.

      • gabbilevy

I burst out laughing at that third pic… probably not what Prada was going for.

        • Patricia Groves Dobrowski

Agreed. That shearling looks ridiculous on him.

          • whaddami

It’s the shearling with the low-cut tee. It’s kind of too Euro-trash for words….

        • Clash D

          Likewise. He looks like Bono.

    • Danielle

This is DOING THINGS for me.

      • demidaemon

        ME TOO.

    • RussellH88

I’d perform so many ritual sacrifices for these clothes.

    • Gatto Nero

These are great, actually. Gorgeous clothes, evocative locations that actually complement the garments. Does the job very nicely.

    • lundibleu

Lovely pictures, although he looks exhausted in the first two. I wonder how big his feet are, or if it is a perspective thing, as some of those shots they do look enormous.

    • NBG

Living for those glasses on him. The coats don’t move me but I’m feeling all kinds of warm ways about him in that sweater.

      It’s all so very Liebovitz.

    • sienna elm

What a lovely start to Monday! Thank you.

    • PinkyK

      Mmmmmmm James McAvoy….

    • Jennifer Bober

That’s a really nice way to start the week.

    • GillianHolroyd

“We fear he’s going to trip in those giant shoes, though”

You know what they say about big feet…

      • Jessica Freeman

        ….large hands…

        • GillianHolroyd

        • Thomas

I’ve always thought it was the hands more than the feet. They say there’s no correlation with the feet, but from my own experience, it seems like there is with the hands.

          • jilly_d

            I tend to agree.

      • Karen Belgrad

        Shoelaces are never long enough?

      • lundibleu

        Big socks..

Or, speaking as someone with size 12 (uk) feet, less choice of shoes. Pah.

    • Alyssa

I am so grateful this was posted on Monday and not saved for Sausage Friday! :)

    • ashtangajunkie

The monochromatic, gloomy stuff suits him. He looks yummy.

    • Anna

James in third last pic: WOOF. Living for that David Bailey/’60s mod vibe.

      • Kristin

Yeah, that pic is doing things for me. Wow.

        • Shawn EH

          He looks great there!

        • Anna

It took me awhile to get his appeal, but yeah…that pic. I want to gaze at him for awhile and subsequently err…help him with whatever has caused his sulky mood. He does sulk beautifully, though.

    • Audrey Lee

This morning has been hella long. I needed the dose of Broody Scot to get it going.

    • Thomas

I love him, but that coat combined with those sunglasses make me think of a drug dealer for some reason.

    • http://redheadedwolf.wordpress.com/ Laura Renee

Anyone else feel that he’s giving us his best Bono impression for a lot of these?

      • Gatto Nero

        Yes. The shades.

      • Carleenml

first thought for me, too. I want him to stop.

    • mjude

      I totally dig

    • sleepycat

Even though I don’t wear sunglasses, I really want a pair of those, oh! and Baroque sunglasses from that one Prada women’s wear collection in which she played Carmen Miranda music.

    • Kathy

Love the drama, the clothes and the moody Scotsman.

      • sk8tfan

He does look like he was caught returning from burying a corpse in the heath.

    • Kent Roby

He is serving up some sultry Bono realness in those shades. These photos look like he just dumped a body in the water, and yet the mood fits this outerwear. I like.

    • Brittney P

I am ridiculously attracted to this man, even though the sunglasses and turtleneck picture reminds me of something that one would wear while singing “Dick in a Box” with Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg.

    • http://attiresmind.blogspot.com/ Kiltdntiltd

Yes to the Nth degree. And hands off, everyone, he’s MINE.

    • Heather

He looks like Bono in the pics with sunglasses.

      • kimmeister

Exactly what I got out of this! Especially in the shot with the sunglasses + coat.

        • demidaemon

I am now made aware, through James McAvoy, that I unconsciously find Bono very attractive. Or at least, his version of Bono.

    • flamingoNW

The coats work on him but those glasses are ridiculous.

    • gorghast

I adore him, but this styling doesn’t suit him at all. And the broody, intense thing doesn’t either. He’s much more attractive when he’s cheeky.

    • MK03

      Oh, Mr. Tumnus…

    • Violentcello

He looks entirely too much like Bono in that third picture for my taste. But otherwise, he is quite a looker.

    • formerlyAnon

First and last photos for me. Remind me of all the moody darlings in our circle back in the days we spent a lot of time outdoors because almost no one had enough of their own space for indoor gatherings. The coat woulda been thrift store, though.

    • lalahartma

    • Serena

oh no i need to change my underwear… :p

    • LadyVimes

Mmm I’m always in the mood for a brooding Scotsman. Call me, McAvoy.

    • jilly_d

      yep, that’ll do.

    • J.W.

These photos remind me of the old “Prisoner” TV series for some reason. Where’s the large bouncing balloon?

    • doodley

Why is he dressed like Bono in the 3rd picture?

    • littlevase

Pic 1: Ok James, for this one, just frown and glower and look a bit moody.
Pic 2: Ok James, for this one, just frown and glower and look a bit moody.
Pic 3: Ok James, for this one, just frown and glower and look a bit moody.
Pic 4: Ok James, for this one, just frown and glower and look a bit moody.
Pic 5: Ok James, for this one, just frown and glower and look a bit moody.
Pic 6: Ok James, for this one, just frown and glower and look a bit moody.

(I kid because I love. He looks super hot)

    • Tanya Wade

      Mein Gott that turtleneck!

    • what not

At least on my phone, the sunglasses photos = Bono. Now that’s all I can see here.

    • MilaXX

He’s purdy. I like brooding James.

    • Imasewsure

Not a model… but moody-hot which is a bit of alrite

    • paginatrix

You know what they say about a man with big feet …

      Big shoes.

    • http://www.ellenciompi.com/ NurseEllen

LOVE the photo in the stairwell. Beautifully composed, great use of B/W.

    • fursa_saida

This…is not working for me. I think he looks pretty silly in the sunglasses, to be honest; the whole mood is just so not his persona that I feel cheated. Like, moody grumpface is not what I want from James McAvoy. I DID NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS. For me a huge part of his charm is how genuinely good-natured and sweet he seems.

      • gorghast

        I’m with you!

    • Aidan B

      Well hello there…

    • MissMariRose

If it isn’t Scottish, it’s crap!

      • EEKstl

HA HA HA! My husband and I say that all the time to each other – I fear we’re getting to the point where most people don’t get the reference :-(.

    • Constant Reader

I’m pretty sure that as soon as I logged onto the TLo home page and saw this trending at the top, a rainbow appeared and a choir of angels began singing. What a nice start to the week!

    • EEKstl

I’m not sure when he morphed into a Scottish Fox for me but I believe it was somewhere recently in the Annals of TLo…thanks, boys!

    • Samantha Stacey Riches

He looks amazing the last three shots, but my fave is the second last shot ❤

    • Beth513

He DOES IT for me. I love the one with sunglasses and the fleecey jacket. Woof.

    • Crystal

      This…. this is very good.

    • Austen Jane

All I see is Mr. Tumnus.

      • TwiddlyStun

If you see him in Wanted with Angelina Jolie that will go away. He’s the sort of comic book character who is just like us except Speshul with bullets because of mystical things. It’s so rewarding to see his bland little doormat of a character becoming stronger and – very slowly – smarter. Not very Tumnus at all by the end.

    • E.Nelson

I like all of them except the shots of him in sunglasses. Maybe those will look better in print.

Kudos to Leibovitz for finally shooting without that “I caught them moving but in slow motion so it’s ROMANTIC” haze she seems to default to. These are gorgeous photos and it’s nice to see she had something worthwhile to be working on that kept her from showing up for the KimYe nuptials.

    • ThaliaMenninger

He looks exactly like the kind of moody boy I yearned for when I was 13. I still find him very cute, but I think I’ve moved on to a different yearning as I’ve aged.

      • Kimberlini

I’ve always said that I have the emotional maturity of a 13 year old. Thanks for the confirmation.

      • Gatto Nero

I’m still drawn to the moody boys.

        • ThaliaMenninger

Oh, me, too. I try to pretend I’ve grown out of it. But in my heart…

        • formerlyAnon

Drawn to them still, but have learned it doesn’t work for me. Somebody has to be unconsciously steering the ship to the Good Place, and I’ve learned that I can’t be relied upon for that. Not up for any more shipwrecks, so the “drawn to” goes nowhere.

    • Kimberlini

He’s all mine. Back off bitches!

    • MissAmynae

Baby Ewan McGregor. These are brilliant.

    • marlie

Brooding James McAvoy. I could look at these all day. If only there were audio of him talking to go with them… Also, those shades are ridiculous, and I sort of love them for this photoshoot. They might not work on him in the real world, though.

    • Tess Tea

He’s trying to pull a Fassbender.

      • http://sealsonthemove.blogspot.com/ Cecilia

I was thinking the same thing!

    • nannypoo

This guy is not exactly handsome but he is super sexy and attractive. And he is exceptionally hot in these pictures.

    • Annmarie Kane

Oh God no, don’t tell me clown shoes are a thing now?!

    • Alloy Jane

Way to ruin him for me Prada. He looks like Bono in some of these pics, particularly the one with those awful “hipster on a moped” shades.

    • FridaStaire

This is lovely! He has the capacity to be just that wee bit camp which really carries these pictures.

    • demidaemon

Love the shots with the sunglasses, especially the turtleneck shot. Mmmmm-hmmm.

    • Man Dala

He looks like Bono in the third shot. Great photography, the model… not so much.

    • RutGot

He’s not a guy whose looks do anything for me but boy, these clothes and setting are doing fantastic things for him.

    • quiltrx

Mmm, delicious. And he’s totally Bono’s little brother in those shades.

    • Onika K Morris-Alleyne

Gerard Butler. I can’t not see it.

    • LeelaST

As if he couldn’t be more attractive we get this editorial. Heaven.

    • julnyes

I don’t like the sunglasses, they cover up too much of his lovely face… and I don’t like any of the clothes except the sweater and the last coat. This spread does not satisfy my McAvoy needs.

    • Fred Vaughn

      Thank you, Uncles.
