Elle Fanning Out and About in Los Angeles

Posted on June 16, 2014

Sometimes, a couple style bitches gotta eat their words. We’re always telling Miss Elle to stay away from pastels, and here she is, shutting us up by looking pretty in pink.

This outfit is seriously cute, with just the right amount of chic to it without looking try-hard or over-styled. Love it. Enjoy your time working that particular cut of jeans, Elle. Trust us, it’ll be short-lived.

The bag (Yes, dear. We see it.) and shoes are matchy white, but we don’t care. It all looks fresh on her – and she’s perfectly suited to it.

Okay, well, I just can’t sign off on shiny white pumps with jeans. This was the time for her to pull out some goofy platform sandals, non?

      • Coolekat

        Oui.

      • Lilithcat

You and me both. Stiletto heels of any color don’t belong with jeans!

        • FridaStaire

You said it, sister. Stilleto heles with jeans =absurd old matron trying to sex it up. Never a good idea.

          • smayper

100% agree, except that I associate them with teenage girls trying themselves out as sexy on a Saturday night in a small town.

      • MoHub

Or even a pair of deck shoes.

    • Glam Dixie

Isn’t that the pajama top she wore with the matching bottoms going into Letterman?

      • demidaemon

I knew I had seen it somewhere before. So, kudos on actually reusing a piece of clothing; but, why such an ugly piece of clothing?

    • Anna

I must not get it because the bag and shoes makes Elle look like a little girl who raided her mama’s closet. The top and jeans work, but the pumps and bag seem like they belong with another, more mature, outfit. I will add, however, I do think Elle can rock pastels – she just needs to find the right ones.

      • lunchcoma

It doesn’t look right to me either, though I think it’s partially the posture. She looks like she’s having to concentrate on walking straight, which isn’t a good combination with the easy chic look she’s going for.

      • sienna elm

I think it helps that she isn’t entirely in pastels. The jeans help to ease the pastel.

    • Kbear

What happened to wearing cute sneakers? White pumps with jeans are just so tacky.

      • PastryGoddess

This is a “walking down the street and I just happened to run into a pack of photographers” look

    • lundibleu

It may just be the cuts on top and jeans, but it makes it look like she has a slightly longer than average torso, as well as long legs, which might explain why some of her previous choices have looked a little off in fit at times. I’m not sure I like the shoes, they make her look look older. A pair of wedges would probably have looked a bit younger and fresher.

    • The Counselor

I’m really curious about this: Does the language of “her favorite Miu Miu” come from TLo, the publicist, or the photo source?

      • lundibleu

TLo cynicism I think, based on how she’s holding the bag so it is completely visible to anyone who looks, in the way of many others with their “free-if-you-publicise-it” bags :)

        • MilaXX

Yep because she’s signed to them along with Lupita. It’s a professional bag pimp moment.

      • kimmeister

I would guess that she’s sported it several times in other posts on this blog.

    • Wink

Eeeeek. White pumps – even when they’re expensive – come off looking like a Payless special.

    • Mothra

Those shoes are an abomination and honestly that crop top and low slung mom jeans are not a look that I find to be endearing or cute. Also, can someone arrange for that hair to get a trim?

    • http://armchairauthor.wordpress.com/ LesYeuxHiboux

Those jeans are creased like they’re meant to be cuffed, and I’m betting they’d look even better that way. That more saturated blue looks great against her skin. I like the bag but the pumps are a little “Trying on shoes at Payless.” The top is adequate.

      • Starling

Oh, god, the bridal shoes. They were awful.

    • Starling

With both pieces being so cropped and blocky, it’s impossible for me not to see her as a kid who’s shot up 6 inches overnight and is too tall for all of her clothes.

    • Sofia

i learned forever ago on “queer eye” that pink complements every skin tone. i’ve yet to see anyone prove it wrong.

      • lundibleu

I suppose “pink” covers a wide range of tones, but there’s certainly a number that don’t work for me. And what suits my daughter’s colouring doesn’t work with my son’s.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

I think there is a pink for everyone – in the same way there is a red lipstick for everyone – but the key is finding the right one!

    • jtabz

Switch those shoes for some pastel ballet flats and I’d love it without qualification.

      • BuffaloBarbara

        That’s exactly the ticket.

      • http://foodycat.blogspot.co.uk/ Alicia

Or espadrilles in a slightly different pastel stripe.

    • Grumpy Girl

I feel bad being disagreeable, but I don’t like that shade of pink (as it renders on my monitor) on her. It looks kind of faded/heather-y to me, and seems to disappear (colorwise) into her. Again, this may be my monitor. There are other comments throughout the day where I saw colors clearly differently than other BKs.

I wish she would wear something that says more “sassy fun” than “fashionably dull.”

    • alyce1213

I will never get on board with high heeled pumps, in any color, accessorizing an outfit like that. It just looks wrong to my eye. A cute flat, or a wedge, or sneakers, espadrilles, would’ve done the trick.
That’s a flattering pink for her, it’s deeper than a baby pink.

    • bitchybitchybitchy

I’ll join those sayng nay to pumps with jeans. This level of casual clothing calls for a cute flat, or a sandal, or cute sneakers.

    • FibonacciSequins

The cut of those jeans is not flattering her shape at all. The white pumps aren’t helping but even with flats, those jeans would be fugly.

      • Mod_girl

I know–it takes a special kind of effort to make someone THAT tall, with legs THAT long, to look “stumpy” in a pair of jeans, and yet she kind of does.

    • Terri Terri

      kinda blah and washed-out looking.

    • Bower Bird

She is young and young can get away with a lot, but the whole thing is a bit Petticoat Junction job interview to me.

    • cat772

Nope. I like the purse, maybe.

    • GeoDiva

She looks like she raided her mom’s closet for those shoes and they must have been way in the back cause they are ugly!

    • MilaXX

I like. She looks very cute & teenager-y.

    • Meg0GayGuys6

      1. Cropped top
      2. Small purse
      3. Cropped jeans

Does this not add up to a person looking like they drank the Alice in Wonderland juice? Like she grew out of each piece?

      • BLauD

That’s exactly what I thought – like she suddenly had a huge growth spurt.

      • livesarah

You beat me to it! It’s a bit freaky.

    • Gatto Nero

I like it all except the shoes. Maybe it’s me, but I just don’t get the concept of wearing five-inch white stilettos with a pair of jeans for strolling around LA.
And these particular ones are so — bridal.

    • marlie

Actually, I don’t like anything that she’s wearing, BUT I think she’s adorably comfortable and age appropriate (though she still needs to ditch the shoes).

    • smh4748

The pink is ok. But look at the color of the jeans against her skin! So much better! Wear color, Elle–please!

    • throwaneyeonthis

“Miss Elle, meet Miss Kiernan. Now listen to everything she says. In fact, take notes and tape them to your closet door. Double check them before going out.”

    • LadyVimes

Those jeans are doing her no favors.

    • quiltrx

Really random comment alert…she has really pretty feet and ankles! Very suited to wearing pumps.

    • CT14

I just can’t with her hair.

It’s awful. As much as I want to like her in general, that hair upsets me every time.

You’re just not that blond, and it washes you out, dear. Hack a good 4 inches off and let it recover.

      • numenah

Not liking Kiernan’s color either. I wish stylists were gentler with young hair.

    • Sophie

I think her standing straight and getting her hair out of her face would improve a lot of things. And no to the white shoes anyway, those can’t be improved.

    • MaggieSays

The crop top, jeans that are just a little too short and look like they have been unrolled, the tiny bag, and hunched posture all make her look like she is 6ft tall and ashamed of it. I hate it all.

    • icm

This girl is like the living human version of builders beige. Man she is boring.

    • AuntyStephy

I’m sorry, this is just ugly on an epic scale. All of it.

    • P M

Why are the publicists all trying to ruin the future health of celebu-teens? Because those shoes are going to wreck her back.

    • livesarah

Oh no. This just exaggerates her natural tendency to look like an overgrown little girl. That outfit is giving her Alice in Wonderland syndrome.

    • kmk05

I love all of this, even though the colour combination and matchiness makes everything look a little cheap (which it shouldn’t, especially not at the price point of that outfit!). Her hair and face are so damn angelic!

    • Kelly

I think you were right the first time, TLo — no pastels for Elle. To me, this one still washes her out. I don’t care much for the whole look, actually: the peter-pan collar does her no favors, and white pumps with jeans? Oi.

    • jilly_d

Words cannot express how much I hate this look in general and that top in particular.

    • RescueMe23

I hate the shoes. They’re JEANS – you can be comfortable and stylish without resorting to high heeled pumps.

    • lobsterlen

This would look so much better if she was wearing flats and if she ditched that midriff bearing top. I guess the only thing to admire is that bag.
Every time I see cropped pants and high heels I am reminded of Peg Bundy.

    • msdamselfly

Not liking the heels or even the handbag but the rest is great

    • Innuendo

The jeans look like they were rolled up at the bottom when they were bought and she just unrolled them. I guess she never had them ironed or washed before wearing? They leave weird creases at the bottom. I like the color, but don’t really like the crop top and how it fits.

    • Imasewsure

I do hate white pumps but the girl likes to dress up so I can live with them. I love this outfit on her because it’s modern and awkward and therefore a bit edgy. It’s perfect for the frilly/edgy moment she’s living in… not flattering but whatevs… everything is beautiful at her age!!

    • Little_Olive

I’m sorry. White pumps -white shoes, actually- will never belong anywhere but in a nurse’s uniform to me (the nurses from yore, not the ones from the ER who wear scrubs).

It’s al quite contrived, IMO. Try again, dear.

    • ktr33

I love the little pink crop-top, like the little purse, hate those very strange jeans, and hate hate hate them all with those cheesy white pumps. From the back she looks like a mall shopper. And not a good mall.

    • altalinda

Cute till I got to the heels. Flats or sandals.

    • RutGot

Wow, I just hate the shape of everything she’s wearing.
