America Ferrera in Dolce&Gabbana in London

Posted on June 23, 2014

Oh, well done, Miss Lady. This brought a smile. Two of them, actually.

Let this be a lesson to y’all. Sometimes, when the fashion world is telling you you’re supposed to wear a gold metallic miniskirt, it’s perfectly correct for you to roll your eyes and reach for that simple black pencil skirt that never does you wrong. She’s either got true style or someone who’s making good decisions for her. Someone who knows what they’re doing picked that heavy shoe to balance out that focus-pulling top and those fabulous sleeves. The whole look is balanced and proportionate to our eyes.

Are we crazy for thinking Christina Hendricks could rock this? Or are the polka dots and sleeves too much for her bodacious torso?

That’s some Chic Big Business Realness.

    • Tami from Seattle

      She looks amazing! America FTW!

    • Thomas

Cute look and I like the sleeves, but I can’t help but think if you put a bow on her head she would be Minnie Mouse.

      • Glam Dixie

Dang shoulda read the comments, totally Minnie Mouse but still super cute.

      • FuhUgh

I feel like the shoes are part of what is taking this into Minnie Mouse land – granted the big polka dots are a huge contributor, but those shoes look weirdly outsized, just like Minnie’s shoes always do.

    • Tiffany Green

      She looks fab!

    • brown-eyed girl

Love her. Methinks that Christina Hendricks may be a bit too bodacious for the dots.

      • jen_vasm

This is wonderful on America. A jewel neckline + polka dots + semi shiny material would be a bridge too far on Christina.

    • Lily

I want to like this look but it just reads flamenco high-class prostitute to me, and tbh, I really think it’s the top that does it. Shoes and skirt are chic and easy, but the top just makes me dizzy.

    • http://weirdinedgewise.blogspot.com ONEWEIRDWORD

      Chic, fun and gorgeous.

    • DaringMiss

The polka dots and flared sleeves are some serious flamenco elements. Hendricks would look very silly in them. America knew enough to pull her hair back to accent her face but Christina would have a hard time doing the same thing.

    • Annistella

I think the D&G top looks better on her than the model. While their ad campaigns make no sense to me, when those picky italians design for women, they mean it. Bravo.

    • hughman

I can totally see Christina Hendricks working this and looking all Ann-Margret in “Viva Las Vegas”.

    • Sobaika

I think Christina Hendricks could do those sleeves in a solid color or those polka dots without those sleeves, not together.

America Ferrera looks beautiful and wonderfully put together. This is borderline werq for me.

    • @Biting Panda

      Boom Chica Boom! Killing It!

    • random_poster

She looks fantastic! For Christina, I’d say no polka-dots, and not red.

    • Christin Pardy-Nosenchuk

I would love to see Christina Hendricks in this but she would fuck it up with a fugly shoe choice.

      • jilly_d

You could not be more correct.

      • Imasewsure

That was my first thought too… top yes… skirt yes…. Dansko clogs with straps… sad no….

      • Lower L

I give Christina Hendricks a pass on shoes because–and I don’t say this to body snark–she seems to have actual podiatry issues. But I definitely would like to see her in this.

    • nannypoo

She’s beautiful and this elegant outfit suits her perfectly.

    • NBG

Some may not dig the selves but I think they bring just the right amount of “movie star” to this look. I am thrilled that she is working with someone who knows how to make the most of her fabulous figure. Don’t change a thing, America! You’re gorgeous.

      • Wink

Never hurts to serve up a bit of glamour.

    • Glam Dixie

She looks adorable but it’s giving me Minnie Mouse. Love her beautiful smile, she knows she looks good.

      • Shawn EH

I think America can get away with this, because it’s also a look that would be fun on Selena Gomez; it’s youthful. But on Christina H., totally Minnie Mouse costume, no doubt!

    • alyce1213

This is perfect for her! It’s a WERQ for me.
I think it’s not for Christina Hendricks — not her personality.

    • BLauDGaspode

      Ladybug Girl all grown up!

I’m not a fan of the sleeves, but she does look great.

    • j regan p

If you ask me, her beautiful smile carries it to the top. She could be in a burlap sack but she radiates confidence. I love ‘Ugly Betty’!

    • lundibleu

America looks fantastic here. It’s all spot on.

As for Christina, I think she could rock this look too, although I’d suggest she’d maybe need a wider neckline than this top has.

    • SuzyQuzey

Brava! I don’t like the shoes at all, but they work with this particular outfit.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_QFW22QV426LUOEPGASPZJWJMDE MishaFoomin

      Ooo la la!

    • LadyVimes

Those sleeves would be too much for Christina. Big chest and big sleeves? Nuh-uh. But they look fabulous on America.

    • Gatto Nero

Perfect proportions and great colors on her. Brava.

    • kmk05

She looks beautifully put together. The earrings are a great touch, and she is making those shoes sing even though the platform should be considered excessive.

      • DuBey2

Yes. I love what the line of those earrings does for her profile & neck. This is the best I’ve ever seen her.
        Plus I just love her.

    • marlie

Christina Hendricks could totally rock this. I think America looks fantastic. The skirt and top are doing amazing things for her figure, and the shoes fit the sort of retro vibe of the rest of the look, without being costume-y. And I love the sleeves.

    • carrie

Wish the sleeves were cut off before the flair. It gives her t-rex arms.

    • crash1212

Her look is SO much better than the model’s. She looks fab.

Not sure I’d put Ms. Hendricks in a neckline that high – doesn’t usually work for her.

    • MilaXX

She’s on my list of celebs I want to have a drink with. I’ve loved her since Real Women Have Curves. She looks beautiful here. As for Ms. Hendricks, I don’t think I would like that top on her.Not just because of the boobs, but how she carries herself. She does this sort of demure look up thing with her body and this look requires a standing up straight, confident look. Christina in that skirt and shoes is a no brainer, but I’d go for a different top for her.

      • jayetyler

I love her too & think she looks fantastic. My husband always tells me that she is my celebrity doppelganger (which I take as the highest compliment). I so hope she’ll be back on my TV screen regularly in the fall.

    • Fuchsiaforever

I love the outfit! Go America! Ok, Uncles, you sold me the striptastic shoes, fine, she can keep them, I get the logic. And, yes, I’d love to see Hendricks in this! :D

    • Trickytrisha

Wheee! Love this on her. Gold stars all around to her and her stylists.

    • http://www.lifeinspice.com/ rose88

America looks fantastic but I think Christina Hendricks’ body is a little too boobielicious for this look.

    • TinyDynamo

Love it! Chic and fashion forward, yet totally relatable. Great job, America!

    • anyalama

The sleeves would look a little silly on Christina Hendricks.

      • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

        They look silly period!

    • FibonacciSequins

Love this! Classy/sexy. Good call on pulling her hair back in a simple ponytail, too.

    • Kawena

Love this! Not sure if it would work for Christina, though. I think that part of her issue is that she has a high waist and it’s hard to find something flattering for her with that combination of features. It would be difficult to get this skirt to fit her properly.

      • understateddiva

Exactly, this would cut her off right under her glorious bosom. She needs something to elongate the waist.

    • KendraMR

      It’s a WERQ for me.

    • fursa_saida

I love it! Like an updated Betty Boop.

I think this would be a disaster on Christina Hendricks.

    • http://www.bertkeeter.com Bert Keeter

Cover of a Novella maybe…today NO WAY!

    • Man Dala

“Don’t give me that inner beauty crap, Betty!” — Wilhelmina. She looks fantastic.

    • Tarah

Still confused as to why she’s cast as the “other friend” in movies.

      • http://toongrrl.deviantart.com/ Toongrrl

Maybe the “cute” friend : )

    • bitchybitchybitchy

Lovely look, the blouse just pops against the black pencil skirt(and I almost typed penis skirt…shows you where my mind goes)

    • ChaCha_70

This is a total “Be Me” for me. Love.

    • Skippymom1

I am just happy to Miss America [sorry] out there. She looks stunning. Well done young lady. Can I borrow your skirt?

    • Sophie

With the black skirt, this looks entirely too much like a ladybug costume I once saw. The golden miniskirt, for all its faults, would have broken up the colour scheme.

    • Tanya Wade

Put your cha cha heels on! She looks perfect.

    • http://cheekypinky.wordpress.com cheekypinky

      YASS, GIRL.

    • Yoshio

Perhaps a personal best for Ms. Ferrera – I’m having that top made immediately in at least two fabrics. Very nice look for her.

    • stubbornthoughts

      LOVE!!!!!

    • quiltrx

That blouse is everything. She looks great!

    • msdamselfly

      This is so perfect

    • AnneElliot

America looks bodacious. I’m ignoring the peep toe platforms, which I loathe, simply because I think she’s adorable.

    • Bozhi

Hendricks would rock this, but it is too old looking for this young woman.

    • Jecca2244

Love her and this outfit! When i lived and worked in Italy years ago, Ugly Betty was the ONLY American show I could get. Have had a soft spot for her ever since.

    • e jerry powell

      SO CUTE.

I’m going to die for a minute, this is so cute. Let this be a lesson, Domenico.

    • RescueMe23

Love her – love real women with hips and a booty – yay real people!!

    • Kent Roby

She looks awesome! I assume this means she has a show in the works?

    • Reine Bron

America has been looking fantastic lately

    • Wink

The gold metallic mini (on the model) would have been a disaster on America. Thank goodness that crisis was averted!

    • AlisonHendryx

Love it, but it doesn’t feel very “June” though. Feels very “September”

    • Danielle

She looks faboo. I love polka dots, on anyone.

    • James

Simply fab! Well done my lady.

    • Emily Smith

I love this girl, I have loved her ever since Ugly Betty which is still one of my all time favorite ridiculous TV shows.

    • Janet B

Brava, America. Knowing how to take a piece and make it your own is a skill everyone could use.
Christina would need an open neck blouse to make it work for her. Slightly smaller sleeves wouldn’t hurt either.

    • paintedfish

very Cha Cha Digregorio, i love it.

    • shopgirl716

      Bravo! She is gorgeous!

    • largishbearishAtlish

The.Smile.Makes.It. !!! one of those great faces that makes you instantly smile to the point you (almost, this IS T’lo land) almost don’t care what she is wearing. So chic, just pure class/ic/y.

    • HobbitGirl

I had a whole wardrobe of those sleeves in 2001/2. I’m not happy to see them again.

    • melanie0866

She should not have worn a black bra. Nude would have been better.

    • colorjunky

      Very flamingo!

    • macwell

Christina H. could totally rock this, but I gotta say – this is the best America has ever looked – IMHO. Good for you America – Good for you…:)

    • Aurumgirl

I think the neckline would make Christina look too matronly. But this is perfect on America.

    • Man Dala

      She looks fantastic.

    • Clash D

I can’t take my eyes off how flattering that hemline is to her calves. She looks great.

    • martha

      perfectly proportioned, perfect on her

    • http://toongrrl.deviantart.com/ Toongrrl

      She’s fab : )
This does look like something Joan Harris could wear : )
